[Help] since 4.3 notifications borked - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

since updating my note2 LTE for 4.3, no app/game notifications work
i only get call/sms ones appear
i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the aps
clearing cache and data
wipe cache + dalvik + wipe data factory reset

Do You use something like notifyclean or check in the app settings whether you have notifications enabled. See screenshot to understand what I mean.

Please help!!!

I keep getting this message popping up "The application Open Sense Plugin Manager (process com.htc.opensense.pluginmanager) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Then it makes me "force close." I do not receive new text messages or emails at all! Also, none of my settings save. I can't use my alarm or my new voicemails do not show up. I am very confused. My phone is rooted and has been for some time with no issue. If anyone can help I know XDA can?
Are you on a custom rom at all?
Either way, sounds like a software issue, which a factory reset should most definitely clear up.
Yes I am using Konies Elite and have been for 9 months or so with no issues. I dont think its the rom but rather the phone im not quite sure. If I do a factory reset will I lose my root and all my current apps and settings?
Hey,
Yeah just back up any data *text and what ever else you need* and do a factory reset and it should fix your issue.
If you are rooted try wiping cache data and dalvik and reboot the rom and your issue should be fixed! If not try a new rom
I hope I helped if I did please hit the thanks button,
Stevo

You can also boot into recovery/advanced/fix permissions, that should work, try that before erasing everything.

If it was a hardware issue, you would have more problems than just Sense closing. That is a software issue for sure. Since you are rooted, you dont have to do a factory reset, just re-flash the rom from recovery. Be sure to fully wipe data/cache/dalvik first to ensure everything gets installed correctly. You will not lose root, but you will lose apps, which can be backed up and restored with Titanium Backup
Just wipe cache and dalvik and flash the rom over itself you will keep your apps and data but it will reinstall all the stock apps and data from the rom so if you accidently removed something or something corrupted it will be replaced/repaired

Jelly Bean Freeze Issue

I updated to Jelly Bean 4.1.1 using Eftrant's method and did a complete wipe, re-installed and setup every application/game from the market but I've noticed that when I access places like Apps under Settings menu, using programs like Quick App Manager, the phone freezes or hangs. This problem was pretty bad in 4.1 but 4.1.1 seems to have improved it just a bit (not freezing/restarting as much). I thought that this was an application specific problem but doesn't look like it. Anybody having the same issue and have a solution/workaround?
Just to be clear, when I was running ICS the phone did not have a single instance of Freeze or Restart, I've been using this phone since January, so, it is not a problem with my phone either, just with the Jelly Bean update and the issue doesn't happen all the time only sometimes.
Have you tried doing a factory reset and running it without very many apps to see if it helps?
I have the same problem with Stock 4.1.1. Nothing helps (Full Wipe, No own Apps installed, Wipe cache, etc.). It randomly occurs in Settings/Apps. The Phone freezes and needs 1 Minute - Then "Settings isn't responding. Do you want to close it?"
To reproduce the problem: Slide in Settings/Apps from "DOWNLOADED" to "RUNNING" to "ALL" and back - a few times. Sometime the phone freezes.
Does it freeze at all with no apps installed? Can you pinpoint the freezes to a certain type of thing you're doing?

No, unfortunately not. With absolutely no apps installed the problem occurs less times but it is not gone. I think there is a bug.

Can anyone try to reproduce the issue? It seems to occur only after a full wipe and some apps installed.

It also happens when you try to clear data/clear cache of a certain application like Browser, Gmail, Gallery, or any of the stock apps. A mentioned earlier the frequency of the phone freezing reduces if there are no applications installed. This definitely seems to be a bug that occurs when a lot of data about all the applications is being pulled at once. You can replicate the issue if you install an app like Quick App Manager which scans all apps when the app is started.

Thank you for the Info!
It was happening on my GN too. But now it's fine.
I used to flash 4.0.4 factory image and OTA to 4.1.1 many times(more than 6). It was fine without any app installed from google play. After about 60 apps, freeze in setting-apps. Jump in an app detail, back, in another, freeze.
Now it' OK. But unfortunately, I don't know which setting fixed it. I try a lot.
Do you use flipboard? Or any large number of fragment files in sdcard/android/ ? Try to clean. Set flipboard to use internal storage.
If freeze again, er.....the last method. wipe cache, factory reset, flash 4.0.4, install apps and then OTA 4.1.1. Instead of OTA 4.1.1 and then install apps.
hope you can understand my English, and this can help you.

It's weird. Such an easy freeze and so few reports about it.

Well I have the same problem. It generally happens to me after I delete apps via settings...apps.
enough to make me quit cell phones
Happens on my nexus constantly. Verizon has sent me two replacements, which I sent back because they did the same thing, with or without any apps installed. All have had 4.1.1. This problem does not occur on 4.0.4, which I have flashed to the devices after upgrading to 4.1.1 just to run some tests. There is clearly a bug in the vzw 4.1.1 update. It is very, very frustrating and happens regardless of the apps we try to force close, clear cache, etc. They do not have to be google apps as someone has posted. I can easily duplicate the issue and it has been witnessed by two different corporate locations across four reps. I hope we can get a flashable 4.1.2 update soon, I've tried a 4.1.2 rom briefly and have not had the phone freeze at all.
Happens to me. I re flashed the rom and all went wrll

Though it seems that logcat doesn't even log the problem, the phone is frozen solid for a couple minutes when it does freeze. I'll pull a logcat.

Phone Freezes When Mass Texting. Please Help If Possible

When I try to mass text more than two contacts my phone freezes, I would select contacts that I want to message and then try to type my message the screen goes black, but the notification bar remains. Can't do anything so I have to just hold down the power button to restart phone. Tried typing message first and then select my contacts, but I still get the same problem. This doesn't happen when texting one or two people. Did a factory reset but the problem still persist. What could possibly be the problem and is there a fix? Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. I'm rooted and using stock Touchwiz with CWM recovery.
Clear cache for the messages app and try again. Is this a recurring problem or has it come up only recently?

I have never been able to mass text, so it's a recurring problem. How would I go about to clearing my cache for my message app, I'm using the stock app. Sorry, I don't know much about this, I'm new to rooting and smartphones in general.

Huh. You couldnt do this even on stock (unrooted)? Because if the unrooted stock base has this issue, then all custom stock roms will too...you can try making a nandroid and flashing another custom stock rom, it may just be an issue with what you're on
And no problem, everyone was new to this at one point
To clear an apps cache, you go to Settings > Applications > All apps tab, select the app you want, then wait for the app info page to load and tap the "Clear cache" button

Thanks, went to clear my cache, there wasn't anything to clear. I think I couldn't do this even on unrooted stock, I don't really remember. I've already made a backup before doing the factory reset, which I've now restored and currently using. I'll probably try to flash another rom to see if the problem exist on them as well.

[Q] Messenger Has Stopped Responding

Anyone else been having this like... CONSTANTLY lately?
I'm pretty sure it refers to Facebook Messenger (it's messenger not messaging, which is how Facebook's Messenger app is spelled). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app. I contacted support. I cleared data/cache. I cleared the whole systems cache in recovery. Nothing helps. This thing "stops responding" like 10 times a day. It's unbearable.

I think he was being rhetorical and saying to stop using it.
I'm going to say Uninstall it, reboot, then reboot into Recovery and wipe dalivk/cache and Fix Perms, then reboot System, let the phone boot completely (10mins+), then reinstall said app from Play Store. This is what I had to do with G+ to get it working again.

Fix Perms would be on a custom Recovery, such as TWRP or CWM. If you aren't running one of those (or another custom Recovery), then ignore that part or install one (this is XDA after all).

well thanks for the advice though, i'll try doing things in the order you mentioned anyway and see if that helps. unless i succumb to buying a note 3 tomorrow haha.

Any luck? I rooted my S2, did a GS2ROMWIPE and installed [WizzedKAT Rom][V2.9 Final !!]. I then restored my backed-up apps using Super Backup.
I had to uninstall and reinstall Facebook as it kept crashing. I decided to also install FB Messenger. At regular intervals now even just when driving and using Google Maps navigation, I get the error "unfortunately, messenger has stopped" and I must click "OK". (screenshot attached).
I've uninstalled Messenger and am yet to receive another error, but I would like to install it again if there is a solution to this error.
EDIT: I followed the steps :

I got to wiping the Dalvik Cache but in Philz Kernel there is no Fix Pemissions. I left that out and rebooted. Then I started getting new errors that "Unfortunately, contacts has stopped". Have since rebooted and Contacts is working again. Will now try reinstalling FB messenger
Fix permissions is starting to be left out of recoveries because it very rarely does anything anyone needs. As for your app im not sure. Its possible the dev needs to update it for use on kk. If you do a clean flash, and only install that app, does it still behave the same? If so its probably a compatibility issue.

Touch wood, but Facebook Messenger seems to have behaved itself in the half-day since reinstalling it after wiping the Dalvik Cache. I can't say why the cache wipe temporarily affected Contacts, but that's fine too after a reboot.
Should the "Messenger Has Stopped" message reappear, I'll look into doing a clean flash to determine compatibility issues of the app, but I never used FB Messenger on my i9100 Stock Rom so I do not have that as a comparison. That said, the OP had issues on an unrooted S3, so the app could be suspect or perhaps me and Polarbearmc had another software issue in common that affected FB Messenger .
Anyhow, if it worked for me, perhaps the OP had to consider temporarily rooting their phone to do this Davlik Cache wipe too. If the OP feeds back that will be nice, for me I'll continue to explore my new WizzedKat 2.9 Rom.

Wifi Issues on ParanoidAndroid 4.5-beta1

This Paranoid Android 4.5 BETA1 for T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2 seems to be stable build except it has few bugs related to WiFi.
After upgrading from Paranoid Android 4.45 to 4.5, WiFi stops working and it deleted saved WiFi Access Points. Any changes you make in WiFi Settings seems to be giving error " FAILED TO SAVE NETWORK CHANGES".
This WiFi bug is still exists even if you revert it back to 4.45.
Waiting for another fix update.
Since I have not posted much...here in xda ... I can not reply to their original development thread.

No, I'm not using any one of them... The WiFi issues start appearing after I've upgraded to Paranoid Android 4.5 from 4.45. But even if i downgrade to 4.45 the wifi issues remains there.
I think I only have one option to clean format and install it again. But I do not want to loose all of my custom settings.

Did you make a backup before you flashed the update? I did have this problem 3 months ago with an update and a clean flash fixed it and it was stable. I have found that rather than dirty flashing updates I do a full backup in TWRP, full wipe, flash ROM, gapps, addons, and kernel, wipe cache and Dalvik, reboot, let sit 10 mins to settle, reboot recovery, wipe cache and Dalvik, restore just data, wipe cache and Dalvik again and reboot. I've even dine this switching to other Roms but it won't work with all.

Guess what... I think i have solved my issues with just un-checking one of the option in settings. LOL
I realized that I made some changes right after installing the update which I totally forgot about it. So I went back to those settings:fingers-crossed: and checked which one was causing this problem. And WAHLLAA It was definitely one with Cast Screen settings causing the WiFi problems.
HERE ARE MY SOLVED STEPS:
Goto >> Settings
Then >> Display
then >> Cast Screen
then go to the Option of Cast Screen on top right.
SIMPLY uncheck the option [Enable wireless display].
Then REBOOT is required.
You should have working wifi without any changes to the wifi settings.

@mkdroid - I edited this thread's title as well due to your direct copy of the Development thread's title - this is not a good practice as it can be very confusing both to those actually looking at the forum and those searching through both XDA & Google/etc.
Please refrain from copying development thread titles for your threads and leave the [ROM] and other tags for the appropriate places. You should use the [Q] tag if you want to use one at all in the Q&A section.
Thanks.
