[Q] |I miss RETURN key on the MildWild keyboard - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Mildwild,
Thank you for your rom. very nice and working very good.:good:
I just have 2 questions:
- when I write a text message, I like (like for example in this message) to go to the next line. But I can not find a "return" button on the virtual keyboard. Is it possible to change the keyboard layout so that I can have it
- When SMS is long, I like to retract the virtual keyboard (but also everywhere I need to see the whole screen). But I do not see the button that allows to do this. Do you have a solution?
Thanks by advance for your response
Regards
Laurent

Have a look in the keyboard settings. If it's not already built in, Mildwild won't update the ROM or keyboard just to include this. Easier solution would be to install another keyboard

I thought in most situations the back button does this already? You don't see it because it's not on the screen, try the hardware key

Direct Keyboard Key

Is there any way to make the on-screen keyboard enter the key I click first, as opposed to what key I am over when I take the stylus off the screen.
For example, if I use the Full QWERTY keyboard and press the E button, but drag my stylus over the R key and take my stylus off it enters R, not E. When I'm typing a message fast this can be a problem with keys at the side of the keyboard as I regularly enter S instead of A and B,N or M instead of a space. Does anyone know of a registry edit or some other way of stopping this from happening? Many thanks in advance!
Sorry, have entered this in the wrong forum! Meant to put it in the generic BlackStone one!
Dude,
That's a feature!
Most people prefer to be able to drag to another key, knowing they pressed the wrong one in the first place. It's kinda natural as our thumbs are bigger than most keyboard keys.
You haven't mentioned which keyboard you're using ? (As you're new... It's also known as a 'SIP'. Try seeking your answer using the search facility in this forum. You may have more luck outside the Blackstone forums)
If you want to just 'point n' shoot' without the drag option, then you could try reverting back to the plain-ole Windows supplied Keyboard (though I haven't tested this).
Seems like a step backwards though...
Cheers
Yup, choose "keyboard" that's the Windows standard keyboard (almost feature-free).
Firstly, cheers for your replies! I will have a look to see if I can disable the feature on the keyboard as I much prefer the Blackstone's Full QWERTY keyboard as it means I can use my thumbs when on the go, and the stylus when at a desk. The plain windows one isn't really what I'm after. Many thanks people!

when I use the long press method and select a keyboard, the stock keyboard just reappears as if I didn't press anything.
How did you install them? Did you push the files?

both from the market. Its never done this before....hell I don't even know how to push anything on here
go to settings language and keyboard, see if they have a check next to them. then you should be able to long press and select them as an input option.

try swiftkey, it forces the keyboard to switch, im not exactly sure how but going through the wizard it takes you to keyboard settings and then a notification pops up asking what keyboard to use

changing input method on the fly

Is there anyway to change inputs methods on the fly so to speak? in my galaxy and galaxy s2 a long press would being up a menu and u would be able 2 change the input method by that but i have noticed that on the gs3 it doesnt give you that option. am i just missing something in the settings? the main reason i ask is b/c i manly use swype but sometimes with longer messages ill use the better keyboard and its kind of a hassle 2 have 2 go into settings and change it back and forth. thank you
I'm on stock S3 and also mainly using swype. I've noticed that while the swype keyboard is open, you can change the input method by pulling down on the notification bar. It's not as convenient as simply holding a button but since you're already texting and the keyboard is open, it's only an extra step to access on the fly.

thank you for that info, sewhuy! Adding that it indeed is there in the notification area no matter what your default keyboard is. I'm now doing this to change between SwiftKey and LastPass.....it's things like this that i hope they really focus on and improve in key lime pie .....long press in the text box indeed would be the best solution.
This Rom, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748818
has the mod that allows you to change input methods on the fly...
The rom is awesome, please check it out!

Hate the updated Google keyboard...

I just had to uninstall this update.
Not only was the grey swipe lines ugly/bland, but long pressing the period key has none of my fav keys I use very often.
Eg.

Yes I find it irritating for the same reasons. What did you have to uninstall to get the old one back?
Personally I don't use those keys that much and prefer the new way, but FYI, you can reach these in a relatively simple way by swiping from the 123 key(the one that takes you to the additional characters) and to the appropriate key. When you release your finger it will insert the selected character and take you back to the main screen with letters.
This way it is actually just as simple as if they were on the punctuation key.
retro83: If the google keyboard was installed from the factory(on the system partition), you can go to settings and apps, and choose uninstall update for that app. That way you will return to the version that came with the latest os update.
If it isn't on the system partition, you will have to find the old apk somewhere, but I'm sure that is doable as well.

Thank you!
Just tried the swiping directly from the "?123" button and that really helps out a lot, I can live without the blue swipe line.
LOL
Guess I just got sooo use to the period button shortcut options and didn't really see the point of removing those extra choices.
Guess Google knows best, just wished they'd told users about the tip you gave.

Thank you for this! The key doesn't even have the "..." on it, so I had no idea and I've been cursing the new keyboard for exactly the same reason. I don't really see how the long-press keys hurt anything in the old keyboard, but knowing this makes it a lot better and I can get used to this.
Well, looks like Google listened to all the poor reviews and the new/latest update adds back all those hold period button short cuts, really helps out left handed Swiper's.
LOL

Gemini Keyboard Shortcuts

Got my Gemini on Saturday and just working my way around it.
Was looking at shortcuts for the Gemini Keyboard and found the documentation, however all shortcuts are a combination of a key labelled ? (magnifying glass) plus another key.
For the life of me I cannot find the key that is supposed to be the magnifying glass.
Anyone know which key this is supposed to be
Thanks in advance

I think those docs are for generic android with a keyboard; google has been pushing putting a "search" key directly onto keyboards.
The gemini shortcuts are mostly the "Fn" key plus another, which should be labelled. e.g. on mine (UK kbd):
ESC: "back" key, or hold down for "Power"
Fn+ESC: "power"
Fn+D: Android "home" key (desktop, not to be confused with traditional editing "home" key)
Fn+A: Android "recent" key (App switcher)
Alt+Tab: App switcher (standard android binding)
Fn+C: Volume down
Fn+V: Volume up
Fn+B: Brightness down
Fn+N: Brightness up
Fn+Alt: Phone app
Fn+Del: Settings
Fn+T: Mute microphone
Fn+R: Screenshot
etc.
Hope I am not hijacking this thread, but continued question about Fn usage
How does one get all the "strange" characters from the keyboard?
By strange, I mean stuff like "{}[]`/" and similar ones.
From the keyboard looks (symbols imprinted at the bottom of the key) I assumed its a combo of Fn+symbol, but it doesn't work.
I am using US keyboard layout and set to use Gemini keyboard as input method.

Did you figure this out? I'm trying to find that out now too.
It is [Fn] +'/ ' to bring up the symbols keyboard and you can select them from there. {}[]℅™®©¥¢√π∆~ etc...
Function key

When you use the Gemini Keyboard app to configure the Gemini US English layout there is actually one more step it seems. Once you've gone through the setup you should receive a notification to configure your keyboard. Select this and select the Gemini keyboard and you will be good to go. I ignored the notification for a while, believing it was prompting me to go through the setup process again but that was not the case.
Hope this helps.
