Ok, I'm just gonna wait for someone to verify the extent to which this info is true (about this being helpful for this device), and whether it is actually going to be useful for some "real" development for this device.

The VideoCore4 in the Galaxy Y is a very much cut down version of the standard VideoCore4, So it has a very low performance in comparison with the other full specification devices. It's done to reduce the size and hence reduce cost. That explains the low specificationss of the Samsung Galaxy Y in comparison to other full VideoCore4 based devices. Fcuk Samsung!!
Maybe if we can change the code and make one ready for Samsung Galaxy Y devices.
I am just telling what I know. I maybe wrong also. We will try this out first.
EDIT: Just now
Lets form a team and develop this!! PM me!!
Developers are welcome!!
This is the time we have to prove ourselves to the android world!!

[Q] [REQUEST] Does anyone have the gt-s5360 source code proprietary device files

Hello everyone,
I am new to xda-dev. This is actually my first post. So please correct me if I have done anything wrong.
Now, to business.
I am a developer with experience in c and I have a build station in my possession. I recently purchased a galaxy y and now I am planning to build cm9 from the source. The cm9 sources are synced with the repo and now all that is stopping me is the absence of device files.
So if anyone has the device files or wishes to make them please reply soon and provide me a link to the github repo.
As soon as I get the files I will release an alpha version within 5 days, that I promise.
Now reply soon so that I can kick start on the compiling of CM9 for galaxy y

This GPU on galaxy y Have a LOCKED PERFORMANCE by samsung,So,if get the drivers, devs can "unlock" the potential
To answer this simply, without drivers, the hardware of the device can't be optimized as good or in some case just cause certain functions to not work at all. The locking on this device, prevents a lot of things.
On some other devices, for example my Droid 3, the bootloader is locked to the extent that we can't change the kernel, and therefore dev are forced to make the ROMs work with the stock kernel making it not run as good as it could.
yes u r right
a locked device cant be developed
Do we need a custom bootloader ?

[PETITION]To release new driver for bcm21553

Guys, i have found this petition about new drivers for S5830i phone and Galaxy Y. And this petition need 5000+ signatures of course to Broadcom make new drivers to S5830i phone and Galaxy Y. If we have new driver, BroadcomCM ,bieltv.3 and SpaceCaker sure find a source for build another CyanogenMod like 10.1/10.2/10.1.3 for bcm21553. I sure our phone are popular with new driver and CyanogeMod.

Android L Port Disscussion

As you most likely all know, Android L has been pushed into AOSP. This means creating a ROM will be significantly easier than building it from the Nexus 5 preview image.
Are any devs currently working on a port? I hope someone is at least making some attempts to bring Android L to Hercules.
Feel free to leave questions & comments!
Here's a thread dedicated to trying to help you mimic the Android L experience.

As far as I have read, they only released part of the source... So may not be possible.
Maybe I'm wrong tho.

The N5 only has a few "ROMs" even, based on L...and they are just stock with a few changes.

I was bored
I was poking at the L dev release today and made it flashable for the hercules. I was able to get a very rudimentary logcat from it
Code:
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -
So I'm gonna take a look at the ramdisk, there must be something new with mounts. Some progress but nothing worthy of an upload, mainly just a heads up that hey someone's upto it. I'll keep working on it...
Android L for Hercules is now open source. If anyone would like to take a look at my progress, I'm currently building a device tree with all the changes I make (currently just ramdisk). Also if interested keep an eye out on my kernel as I may make a L specific branch.

It's out basically... But only for Nexus.
Nothing will happen on the X until first it's released officially, and then shortly after, they release source.
Fall is their general eta... Not sure when non nexus devices will see it tho... Somewhere between a little after Nexus... To months after for some devices.
