Can't flash HotSpotMod_NAE_Odexed.zip - Nokia X

I have SPH-L720 and I am trying to install the HotSpot mod for the 4.4.2 stock rom. I am using Philz Touch to install from zip and I am getting the "cannot open ..... " message. Replacing the services files method does work, but everything installed after that force closes(tried clearing cache still no luck). I would post this in the thread I saw it on but I don't have access to it yet(not enough posts) Any suggestions> BTW I also tried Auto root as well to load and it didn't work either.
The thread is here :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2653666

Sounds like a corrupt file. Delete the files, clear download cache and try again. Make sure you're on WiFi with a solid signal as any data hiccups can corrupt files.

I did this. No luck. Also I can't update my superuser app so I have the old one with the ninja.
Edit: so I manually flashed the newer superuser zip for 2.2 and it updated that way. I re-downloaded virtous 1.0.1 full rom, thing is like 264mbs I think. Anyway I was on wifi new router full signal and it finished. Same error came up after booting to recovery and trying to flash the zip. Error was file directory and next line was (bad) I have wiped and all. No luck. Please help I'm dying to flash new roms!!

Are you going through rom manager, or simply dl to sd and reboot manually to recover?
HTC Vision 1.8 OC, CM7 RC1==HAPPY!!
I've tried both and they both end up with the same results.
Edit: I've also tried downloading it on my computer and transferring to my phone. Btw this is the guide I used to root my phone. I followed it to the letter. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928160

SUPERUSER problem...

Sorry to post this as my first thread here, but I'm running into a problem that I can't seem to get past. Trying to root an unlocked T-Mo T989. I followed the instructions in the developer's thread on how to do it, and I got the CWM installed properly and did a NANDROID backup. The problem I'm having is with any user of the SU binary and SUPERUSER.APK. I first tried to install the Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip, but got an error that it was a bad zip, installation aborted. It's given me that error regardless of which downloaded version of that file I used, and I've D/L'd it from several different sites. So, I tried the instructions to use the deodexed ROM from this site. I re-CWM'd the phone, and tried to load SGH-T989-Deodexed-Root-Busybox-Superuser-by-teshxx-bubby323.zip from my SD card and I got the same error- bad zip, installation aborted. Can't be that many bad zips out there, and more to the point, I can unzip these files fine manually and see the data, so it's obviously something I'm doing.
Interestingly, SuperUser did get installed on the phone, but I don't seem to have SU rights to anything except that which I've installed. I'm trying to remove all the bloatware, but don't have rights to it.
I've had to rebuild all my personal data because bubby323's instructions here had me clean the partitions. I don't want to do that again except for when the phone is properly rooted, so I'm hoping that someone here will be kind enough to tell me how I'm screwing it up. Thanks,
..Joe
this not a rooting question, so don't hijack an unrelated topic for your troubles
the problem you are having is installing SU
just boot into CWR which you already have insalled, then use CWR to Flash the SU zip file
or if that is too complicated use then use the superoneclick method which will also install SU for you the easy way
Umm, sorry, but did you read the post? I did boot into CWR, and tried to install the SU zip, and that's where I get the error that it's a bad zip, installation aborted. Same thing for the one-click version by bubby. That's why I posted it in that thread: I did not try to hijack anything. That was the rooting and SU thread, hence the reason I posted it there.
For all I know it's a problem with CWR.
Geez, talk about jumping allover someone asking for help...

Agreed.
Use superoneclick if you can't install superuser via cwm. may be best to uninstall superuser if its on your phone but not working.

Actually this is quite an easy fix....
In CWM, run the install again. Hell, run it a couple times, until it says successful. I've done this on 5 sgsii's so far, and 3 of them had this problem. My best guess is it isn't mounting the partitions correctly, (which I am unable to verify. The installer script it right, and even if i mount the system partition manually before install it still failed.)
So, easy answer:
Boot to cwm.
Run the installer for su
if it fails, run it again without rebooting
if it fails, once again run it.....
eventually it will work, then reboot, and your rooted. (I'd also suggest after this is done to go into the superuser program settings, scroll to the bottom and update the su binary as well, but this isn't really required.)
Good luck.
you can also use the Fix Permission option in CWR
i know i came across that problem before, and it was able to install after i Fixed the permissions
Well, obviously I'm still doing something wrong. I restored the phone to stock using the CWN Recovery of the NANDROID backup I did when first attempting this. I then started over:
Up and down held down while inserting the USB cable.
From ODIN I select the CMW tar in the PDA, and that installs and reboots the phone.
Shut down phone and re-start with up and down keys depressed, USB cable out
Select Install zip from SD card
Select the Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip (or the deodex, doesn't matter)
down 7 times to select
then I get this error:
Selecting SU Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:can't open /sdcard/Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
I get that no matter how many times I've tried to install it, and even after fixing permission, and even if I try to install it off the internal USB storage.
Any one have any ideas?
Thanks,
..Joe
Correction...
It doesn't like the SD card. I installed the deodex file from the internal USB storage, and this time, it finally took! Thanks to everyone for all the help.
..Joe
hi i have the exact same problem. Can you please explain what is a deodex file and how you installed it? thanks
i got the same error when rooting, however upon rebooting and going into my apps superuser had installed and was working even after receiving the error
sorry but i'm a bit confused here..my apps? what's the exact path to that?
I basically get that error, leaving me without root privilages, the only thing accomblished is the s-off. But without root access, i cant do anything.
Also, after that, my phone's reception is gone...

Losing root for some reason?? Help

So I used odin to flash the official stock jelllybean rom then I used the Samsung toolkit to flash clockwork mod recovery and root. To root it said to flash a superuser zip in recovery. I did.after I reboot everything is working fine. Apps gain root access the promp pops up but after a few minutes it didn't anymore and I cant open busybox or setcpu because it cant gain access but the apps I already granted can. I updated su binary and it fails on gaining root access.
This happens with both super su and superuser. I also tried starting again by oding rom and rooting again. No luck. Please help

Ok, you can try a few things.
First since you have Root Explorer already granted, go into /system/xbin and make sure that there is a file named su. If not, then go into /system/bin and see if it is there. Follow this: If it is in /system/bin, copy it and put it in /system/xbin, check permissions and reboot. Then try an un-granted app and see if that works. Pay attention to the bin and xbin parts here ok.!?
^^^Edit: While you are in /system/xbin make sure that busybox is there also. Just to be sure it installed properly.
Second. If the above didn't work, the go to the market and ChainsDD used to have an app called SuperUser Updated Fixer or something like that. I remember a long time ago, I was having some trouble updating the binaries (as were tons of other people) and he came out with that handy little app. I have been using it since (whenever I have a ROM that uses SuperUser.apk).
Third: I literally just read over in mrRobinson's thread that ICS likes SuperUser, while JB likes SuperSU. Might be something to look into. Maybe swapping out the two apps, might alleviate the issue.
I tried swapping out to super su but was having the same problem. Instead of trying the root explorer method you posted I thought I would go ahead and clean install yet another time. I just wanted the update and root access to work no errors. So here's what I did to fix it and it worked however there's another problem now.
I factory reset, wiped caches
flashed jb stock firmware (instead of the stock fw i now flashed mr.robinsons prerooted firmware)
rebooted checked and saw super su was working fine with my apps.
flashed clockwork mod recovery
made a nandroid backup
flashed wildchilds stock deodexed jb rom (i needed a deodexed rom thats why i flashed this otherwise i would of just kept stock)
booted up and in the play store theres an update for Super Su however i cant update it, it gives me an error.
error retrieving information from server. cant download.tried wifi on off, mobile data on off, clearing google play data and cache. no luck. restored nandroid and there was no update so i clicked reinstall from playstore in su and when i went to go download it, it gave the same error.
So my previous problem is fixed and i dont seem to be losing root anymore but now I cant update SU anymore.
Never mind I seemed to have linked the two issues just because 1 happened before the other, but that might not be the case.
The Google play error is now happening with other apps that i try to update as well.
Is this happening to you guys too?
sometimes when i power off my phone it doesnt boot anymore it gets stuck on boot loop. for example all i did was fix permissions in cwm and it got stuck on boot loop.
Did you Odin root66?
Yeah I odined the root 66 fw by Robinson. That has fixed losing root. Super user is working fine. The only remaining problem is that I get into a boot loop sometimes when I restart for some reason like when I fix permissions.

[Q] Camera Not working after Rom flash - Need advice badly

Dear all, please refer my conversation with sotmax about why i am getting a camera failed message on V8....
Problem though, camera STILL wont work, i had stock and it worked, went to carbon rom and it didnt, i was told to wipe /sytem when i installed carbon? is that maybe the cause?
SO going to revert back to stock the go straight to V8, how do i go back to stock though?
Chaza218
Download odin installer and a stock fw my friend. Go to download mode by pressing vol down home and power and flash it
) ) ) over the air on GN2 ( ( (
Ok, i got odin ,re flashed stock, re rooted, install CWM , installed V8 and STILL the camera wont work, and i checked it when I installed root and it did work then
What is going on!
chaza218
Hmmmm....that lead to hardware my friend. Maybe the rom you flasged destroy your cam or its just quincidence and you need new cam.
A week ago my note was back for replacement as gyro sensor broje and got a new one...
) ) ) over the air on GN2 ( ( (
Cam cant be broken, when i flashed the stock rom it worked?
chaza218
then if you flashed stock and is ok wipe data factory reset with stock and flash V8 after wipe
So to check, your saying I shoudl flash back to stock, root it, install CWM, then do factory reset, wipe davlik cache, wipe /cache, then flash v8?
Should i wipe /system?
also, i have checked, the MD5 of my V8 download is correct 100%
chaza218
Yes exactly that....you dont need to root. Root is needed only if you want to keep stock.
Just flash official then do a hard reset unrooted reboot to download mode flash philz touch recovery with odin(pda) wipe everything inside recovery and flash v8.
Notice that i have done a small mistake in v8 i forgot neak kernel file so if you choose neak kernel will not be flashed. Choose redpill instead...is better. I m uloading fixed version....
) ) ) over the air on GN2 ( ( (
But dont i need to root it to install CWM ? What is philz touch recovery? i was using redpill anyhow. After i have done all of that do i then root it?
Chaza218[/QUOTE]
No need of root if you re gonna flash a rom my friend.
My rom is pre rooted so the only thing you want is a good recovery.
I m suggesting this Philz touch.
Is absolutely the best.
In this link there are all files for root and recovery.
You just skip rooting
I have also a guide of how to do it
https://www.dropbox.com/s/154r7fx8y5..._by_sotmax.zip
Unzipp it in your pc and open the read me file .
You simply flash recovery then wipe data cache and dalvik and flash rom
This has still not solved my camera issue, does ANYONE have any idea??
chaza218
Conversation was quite hard to follow, hence I have a programme questions:
1. Do you currently have a properly functioning recovery programme (whether it be CWM or TWRP)?
2. Are you more or less acquainted with how to flash zips on your phone using the recovery programme. You say this all started by you flashing a ROM so flashing zips is following the same method so you should be able to do it.
If the answer to both questions is yes, then go here and download the zip file.
Place it on the external sd card of your phone.
Enter recovery mode (press volume up + power + home until Galaxy Note 2 splash screen appears).
Select the zip from your external sd card through the recovery programme and flash it.
Reboot your phone.
You now have 2 extra apps: Camera and Gallery.
Both of these are of the latest 4.2 firmware and your default system Camera and Gallery apps are now useless.
If all goes well, you now have a rather awesome and properly functioning Camera and a complementary Gallery.
???
Profit.
Let me know if it works out for you.
I can flash zips and everything yes, and my current gallery app works. When i boot camera app atm it says "camera failed"
In that case, follow this link: http://d-h.st/aIy
Download the file and flash it on to your phone. Again, let me know when you've done this and if it has worked.

Nope, didn't work. My stock camera says camera failed and the gallery works, while the 4.2 camera says that cant connect to the camera, and the 4.2 gallery is empty
Chaza218
I have already reply to you my friend.
Also as i said to you in my reply pm conversation is not for publish. No problem as we dont have something to hide but instead of opening a thread to public we can discuss it in rom thread without filling the whole forum with this.
Flash this and if problem still exists then you have problem with your camera module
Wipe dalvik n cache before flashing

Many apologies. Will do and get back to you

Google Play errors

I've been using Lollipop roms from the i9505 forums and yesterday I flashed MD v1.3 NK2 rom to return to KitKat. At first everything was working fine but then after a while when I would try to install an app from the Play Store I would get error 905 and another number. Both giving an error in installing the app. I've looked around and I've seen fixes saying to clear cache and data and uninstall updates or to remove Google account and re add or going into recovery and wiping cache and dalvik. I've done all of those things and no matter what I still get the same errors installing any app. It fully downloads and when it goes yup try to install it gives me the error. I switched back to a lollipop rom and I don't get the error anymore. Any idea what it could be that gives me the error? Could it just be the rom?
Did you flash the nk2 firmware before flashing the nk2 rom?
