I purchased the tab pro 10.1 yesterday. Th screen is fantastic but when I tried to watch a movie with dark scenes there was a very noticeable glare like a white cloud everywhere on the screen that moved when I moved the tablet. I ran a backlight bleed app and when the britghness is 100% this effect is much more pronounced. Nothing like that on my Lg gpad 8.3 or my Samsung galaxy tab 7.7. Anyone notice anything like this? This can't be normal right?

Unfortunately all the new tabs from the Note 10.1 2014 and up have horrible light bleed. I'm on #4 Note 10.1 2014 and I gave up and kept it since it's only seen in a dark room with a black background. Some are worse than others but I got 4 in a row that had 6 to 7 light bleeds at the bottom in landscape mode. Most tablets have some even Apple. It's bad quality control because I just bought a Dell Venue 11 Pro and it has NO light bleed and when you see black, it's like the screen is off and not with a glow like all these Samsungs. I even had to return a Samsung 55" LED TV in December.

I exchanged it for a new one at the store I bought it from, but unfortunately it has the same problem. And keep in mind that I live in Greece so I paid a premium price (579 euros) for this "premium" tablet. And now I am stuck with it!

I know it's the worst light bleed out of all the tablets I have from the following:
Acer A500 10.1"
HTC Evo 4G View 7"
Nexus 7" 2012
Galaxy Tab 3 10.1"
Galaxy Note 8"
Dell Venue 11 Pro
It's something with these High Resolution Displays. I was going to buy the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 but people are complaining about the light bleed.
It's unacceptable and Samsung in knowingly selling them.
I'm not sure I'd call what I'm experiencing on my 8.4 light bleed. The bottom left corner is just slightly darker. Not noticeable in dark(er) screens, but noticeable on lighter apps like Gmail. Will be taking it back to Best Buy for exchange. Kind of annoying to have to set it back up again with all my preferences.

I bought a Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 too. I had an Asus 10.1 tablet prior with no light bleed issues. This one I see 4 light bleed spots on the bottom. My research has led me to believe this is common, sadly. I also see a blue hue when the screen at the bottom is white. But it seems to be different that the light bleed. Neither are horrific that I need to replace it. But it seems if I wanted to, I'd be in the same situation. However I wonder if the back can be popped off as I've seen for the battery replacement, can the lcd be tightened down and fix the bleed through?

So my Note 2 and some others are experiencing dull and yellowish white contrast as talked about in this POST. Also this POST shows the Note 2 being much brighter. We've tested this with both units on high brightness and dynamic mode on, with the browser brightness all the way up as well. I even did a hard reset, and the low brightness dingy whites are still there on the Note 2. I'm looking into returning the phone for a replacement through the AT&T store I bought it from. Most people don't have this problem on their Note 2's so it seems like its only affecting a few units, but we need to get this out in the open. Maybe there are two different panel types shipping out. Please check and compare your Note 2's white's brightness compared to other Note 2's and other original notes and report here.
I'm also seeing the same dirty white screen. I might go to the local AT&T store to compare it with another Note 2 if they have a demo unit. If anyone can do this and get side by side comparisons I'd like to see this. I hesitate to do a replacement because they are probably only going to offer a refurbished unit as a replacement and the chances are it's going to be another unit with the same issue.

The AT&T store said they would order me a new one. When I called customer care (611) they would only offer a refurbished phone. So stick to the exchanging it at the store. The store I bought it from doesn't have any more in stock but are willing to order me a new one.
You know what stop comparing note 2 to other screens. Every screen has different color calibration and software versions effect this.
My first phone was galaxy s1 and the screen seemed fine since I had no other phone to compare but I compared to my ipod touch 2nd gen. Sgs1 had blue tint. Then I got sgs2 and the screen was very purplish compared to my friends sgs2.
I was obsessed to get the perfect screen so I changed it 5 times. 1 for the dead pixel and 2nd for the white spot on tje screen and the last 3 for the purplish hue. 3rd phone was really purple and obviously something was wrong. And I checked all the phones that are on display in various stores they had yellowish hue. But still compared to sgs1 it had warmer whites. Now I have note 2 and I recently put all 4 of them side by side and compared.
Sgs1: cool blue tint, looks very unnatural.
Sgs2: has a red hue compared to sgs1 but still looks not as warm (red) compared to itouch.
Note2: compared to sgs1&sgs2 it has a warmer white, much much better color balance of them all. However compared to itouch I realized it has a yellow hue.
BUT!!!! I compared it to my laptop's white and 40" lcd tv's white, note 2 still as not yellow as my laptop and tv.
If I were you I would try to enjoy the phone instead of comparing it unless its an obvious defect. Each screen is different and has to be calibrated. Its just means the calibration is different then other devices.
I have to admit, when I compared note 2 to itouch I was surprised by the yellow hue but I am not gonna go and change it again. Not every 2 screen is the same.
Think that your "note2 doesnt have a yellow hue" , maybe its your old note has a blue hue?
Also if you tilt the screen and look it from different angles you will see yellow hue disappear. I had the exact same thing on sgs2. You have to live with it. I am %100 sure even if you change 5 times you will end up with the same problem.

warfanax is pretty right I went and exchanged it today for another note 2 and it looks the same an 4 units tested in store, all had warm whites....so that being said the OG note still has a brighter "looking"screen and brighter whites even if they are blue it gives the appearance of being brighter. Oh well, I'll live with it for the quad core and 2 gigs of ram though. Cant have everything...
I don't have the programming knowledge but don't think an app that changes screen colors is very hard to make. Some kind of color boost is already included in our phones in display section.
There was an app like that for sgs1 that let you tweak RGB colors.

Thanks for the link but that app only washed the screen out with the contrast adjustment. It washed out the black levels. I just realized that I'm running Paranoid Android on my original Note and under Settings>Display there is an option for filtering and dimness. Its set to (20) by default. If I lower the number to like 10 it then matches my note 2's screen brightness at 100%. Its as if this Paranoid Android setting makes the back light on the Note 1 put out brighter (while killing battery life I'm sure) while still keeping the black levels black. Could this setting be what is making my note look brighter than my note 2 and can settings like those be applied with a new rom or an app on the Note 2?
I exchanged out my Grey GN2 for a white version for another defect issue yesterday and the screen on this new phone is definitely whiter. I'm happy, but I agree with others that the yellowish screen was probably due to normal manufacturing tolerance variations.

Did you check on white / grey background ? Still all fine ?
Found out the yellow´s intensity increases significantly in horizontal view.
Hopefully the exchange unit will be better ...
just got a hold of 8.4 unit and it has a very warm, "yellow" screen. especially, when compared to my LG G2 and hand picked iPad 3 (which was picked out of like 10 units with yellow discoloration). i hope not all of them are on the warm side like that and it's a typical screen lottery like with any tablet these days (which is extremely annoying). getting a replacement.
So I'm on the verge to buy a 8 inches tablet and I've come down to a choice between the G Pad and the Samsung Tab Pro 8.4 and would like to have your opinions.
So of course, on paper, I should go with the Tab Pro. Better CPU&GPU, higher resolution, bigger battery, etc. But...the G Pad kinda looks better, has software buttons, has better Roms support (thank you GPE) and is also 150 € cheaper ! I also wonder if the GPE program will allow the G Pad to get updated longer than the Tab Pro.
So is the faster CPU/GPU really a huge leap of performance ? I'm not a huge gamer and will mostly browse the web and watch films.
What do you think ?

I have the Gpad and it is a nice tablet, however, all the development is for the non GPE version. I also like soft buttons better than physical buttons. But if I were buying now it would be hard to overlook the 8.4 with Best Buy selling it for $249 in stores. It is now $80 cheaper than the Gpad.

I have tried both. The display on the Gpad is far too dark, not even 300 nits.
"Distribution of brightness as well as brightness are poor. With an average brightness of 291.7 cd/m², the G Pad 8.3 performs worse than all comparison devices: The average brightness of the Google Nexus 7 display is above 200 cd/m² higher! A brightness distribution of 78% is very uneven. Such brightness differences can be seen with the naked eye in big white areas."

I use the Gpad mostly indoors where brightness is not an issue. In fact I find the darker screen much easier on my eyes while reading ebooks. I have a Nexus 7 I use away from home and outside where a brighter screen works best.

i've had both. I find the G Pad not bright and the screen not crisp. I also has 2 warranty issues with build quality and screen. I wouldn't recommend it.
I also had a GPad before, screen too dark even indoors (basically full brightness for any dark movie), weird sound, blue line when got hot. Not a bad device, but if you can get a regular 8.4 at similar price they are not even in the same league.

Can you link me to an add that says tab pro 8.4 for 249? Because every add I see is still 329.00.
As far as processor and development go the gpads processor is more than fine. It can also be overclocked. I find that today's apps or even the best games need no over clocking though. They simply haven't caught up to the hardware. I so rarely have any tablet I own above 25% brightness I'm not sure how bright these guys homes are that they can't see the screen. My home is bright enough that I could cut diamonds and I have no issues, ever, with any tablet. The gtab has 348 nits max bright while the Tab pro goes to 450 so the Tab pro is better for outside direct sunlight viewing though. I find it to be better than the Nexus 7 2013 in fact and I love that tablet. The gpe version can use any of the custom ROMs by the by.
As for the pro tab 8.4 I find the hardware great. Mine did develop a stuck pixel however and I despise the speakers being on the same side. The physical buttons are horrible but I overcame that by using pie controls and disabling the hardware buttons.. The build quality of the 8.4 I find satisfactory, however the range and connectivity of the wifi are pathetic. Overall the hardware and screen are better in the 8.4 but if I'm going out I grab any tablet but the Tab pro 8.4 as wifi range and dropped connections are so bad on it.
All this being said, truthfully if I were you...i would wait to buy a tablet all together. In just a few short months or even less there will be a mass release of new tablets. They will all be quite nice I'm sure if you are looking for the latest and greatest, also, it will serve to lower the price of current models. The one I am hoping for is a nexus 8.9 but there will be a plethora of others.

I never saw the tab pro 8.4 online for $249. Only in store at Best Buy. This was before the tab s went on sale today. Not sure if the $249 price is still good.

Op if you can find this tablet at the price he saw it at I'd run to buy it. Don't walk, sprint all out. It would be a steal at $250.00. While it has its issues that price point would more than make up for the inconvenience. Not to mention the latest greatest coming soon would never bear out against such a price.
Iam confused on which tab to get ,since both are priced similar in the U.K , also this will be my first tablet . few questions i have is
1. Is the AMOLED display of tab s significantly better than that of Note 10.1.( iam impressed by the display of note 10.1 but hadnt used tab s)
2.does the extra 0.4 inch of tab s make any difference?
3.is S-pen really useful productivity tool.
4.Which one is overall a better tablet(VFM).

I had a note 10.1 2014 till it fell and the screen broke. I replaced it with the 10.5 tab s.
1. Yes, the amoled display is significantly better and nothing compares to it. Watching movies on the note annoyed me because if you weren't at the PERFECT angle, then parts of the image looked slightly washed out compared to the rest of the screen, if not viewing dead on you have the same annoying issue which is compounded by the back light being on on lcd's so the blacks are dark grey and they exhibit the same washed out look if not viewing the screen dead on. Amoled screens don't have either of those issues, even in extreme viewing angles the image on screen is the same as viewing dead on, and the deep blacks are awesome as the pixels are not lit and this alone would have made me upgrade even if my note wasn't destroyed.
2. The screen size difference is negligible and I don't notice a difference really.
3. The S Pen is a very good tool for those who use it. I have a note 3 and don't the s pen with it, but on the tablet I used to use it a lot for school. Note taking on the tablet with an app named Papyrus was very convenient and that is the only thing that I will miss dearly from the note tablet (I'll be so pissed if they announce a Note S before the end of the year)
4. Overall, for the price, I'd have to give it to the Tab s. It's slightly bigger, way better screen, thinner, lighter and has much better battery life. I'll check out getting a stylus later on when school resumes but for now, the Tab s wins.

This is by no means the fastest tablet out there. Though I love the screen and my aosp ROM is working better everyday and has eliminated any lag issues I had.

I can't compare with the tablet Z, but I own a Tab S 8.4, a Nexus 7 2013 and a Note 8.0. I will try to answer your questions based on my experience:
The tab S 8.4's screen is a huge disappointment to me. It looks awesome in bright environments, the high pitch and vivid colors are pleasant to my eyes. However, for someone with high expectations as I did, it suffers from several issues that used affect previous AMOLED generations and totally ruin my experience:
- Smearing on black backgrounds. An issue that was already reported on Galaxy S4, and that seem to affect Tab S 8.4 as well: A dark red smear is visible when watching movies on black backgrounds. It looks like black pixels are slower at displaying a color than already lit pixels. The result is not obvious on first watch, but once noticed becomes a nightmare in dark movies.

While this seem to be pretty efficient fixing the smearing issue, the result is not perfect, it is rather annoying to use AND we lose the benefits of perfect blacks in the darkness. And it impacts battrery life, as a dark grey pixel is powered, while a black one is not.
- Mura effect. Basically, dark (but not black) colors are not homogenous on the screen. It is only really noticeable in the darkness, wich is my main usage for the tablet. Rather annoying, especially since the fix for the smearing issues induces replacing all "black" by "extremely dark grey", which reveal this issue.

- Yellow/greyish tint. This one is'nt the worst, but can be felt on white backgrounds. This one becomes obvious when compared directly to a more natural white screen: the middle of the screen seems more yellowish and darker than the borders. It seems like the glass could be dirty, or tinted by years of heavy usage, which it is not.
None of these issues are obvious to someone who doesn't set his standards very high. They are for me though, and will probably be noticed by people willing to use the tablet in the darkness.
As a bottomline, I actually prefer the display offered by my Nexus 7 or iPad mini retina rather than the Tab S 8.4's. They lack the "wow" effect of vivid colors and the perfect blacks, but provide a more homogenous experience, especially in the darkness.
Now for the performances, I don't know what's wrong with this tab. I was thinking about putting the blame on TouchWiz, but alternative launchers don't help. Rooting and turning off as many services as possible didn't either. Here is what I noticed:
- System zoom effects are subjects to stuttering (opening new app/window, for example). None of my other android device suffers from similar issues, and zooming in other apps such as web browser works flawlessly. The issue is not reliable, and seems to reduce when the same window is opened and closed several times in a row. Memory access issue causing stuttering ?
- Overall system doesn't feel as smooth as it should. Even my elder Note 8.0 feels butter smooth compared to the Tab S 8.4, which I can hardly explain. It is fast enough, but the FPS seems to be lower.
- Two of my favourite apps suffer from low FPS when scrolling: Perfect Viewer and Moon+ Reader. The poor performances make the experience with these apps less enjoyable than on N7 or Note 8, which his hard to explain considering how much more powerful the Tab S 8.4 should be.
- 3D gaming is not at its best either. Performances are clearly below N7, and maybe even lower than on Note 8. There, I guess this is the cost for the extreme pixel density of the display panel.
If you are satisfied with the services offered by your Sony tablet, I'd suggest to stick with it. The Tab S 8.4 is a very decent tablet but not perfect, and its major strenghts are also its main weaknesses.
My 10.5 tablet doubtlessly has the best screen I've ever seen on any device. Sure, a k1 is faster CPU and GPU wise, but for my mainly media consumption and Web browsing it's amazing. Haven't experienced any of the issues mentioned above so I guess pentile does detract a bit.

While this seem to be pretty efficient fixing the smearing issue, the result is not perfect, it is rather annoying to use AND we lose the benefits of perfect blacks in the darkness. And it impacts battrery life, as a dark grey pixel is powered, while a black one is not.
- Mura effect. Basically, dark (but not black) colors are not homogenous on the screen. It is only really noticeable in the darkness, wich is my main usage for the tablet. Rather annoying, especially since the fix for the smearing issues induces replacing all "black" by "extremely dark grey", which reveal this issue.

- Yellow/greyish tint. This one is'nt the worst, but can be felt on white backgrounds. This one becomes obvious when compared directly to a more natural white screen: the middle of the screen seems more yellowish and darker than the borders. It seems like the glass could be dirty, or tinted by years of heavy usage, which it is not.
None of these issues are obvious to someone who doesn't set his standards very high. They are for me though, and will probably be noticed by people willing to use the tablet in the darkness.
As a bottomline, I actually prefer the display offered by my Nexus 7 or iPad mini retina rather than the Tab S 8.4's. They lack the "wow" effect of vivid colors and the perfect blacks, but provide a more homogenous experience, especially in the darkness.
Now for the performances, I don't know what's wrong with this tab. I was thinking about putting the blame on TouchWiz, but alternative launchers don't help. Rooting and turning off as many services as possible didn't either. Here is what I noticed:
- System zoom effects are subjects to stuttering (opening new app/window, for example). None of my other android device suffers from similar issues, and zooming in other apps such as web browser works flawlessly. The issue is not reliable, and seems to reduce when the same window is opened and closed several times in a row. Memory access issue causing stuttering ?
- Overall system doesn't feel as smooth as it should. Even my elder Note 8.0 feels butter smooth compared to the Tab S 8.4, which I can hardly explain. It is fast enough, but the FPS seems to be lower.
- Two of my favourite apps suffer from low FPS when scrolling: Perfect Viewer and Moon+ Reader. The poor performances make the experience with these apps less enjoyable than on N7 or Note 8, which his hard to explain considering how much more powerful the Tab S 8.4 should be.
- 3D gaming is not at its best either. Performances are clearly below N7, and maybe even lower than on Note 8. There, I guess this is the cost for the extreme pixel density of the display panel.
If you are satisfied with the services offered by your Sony tablet, I'd suggest to stick with it. The Tab S 8.4 is a very decent tablet but not perfect, and its major strenghts are also its main weaknesses.

Your answer was perfect for my needs as my main utility for Tab S would be perfect viewer and moon reader as well.
Reading all sorts of experiences I'm beginning to wonder if I should buy a new tablet or not and it seems that I will rain check this purchase for now...

since in some country you can like send it back if you not satisfy kind of sale.. and if it apply to you why dont you test it. i dont have any problem like being mentioned above. and in this short period... i think the QC of the device are kind of loopy... some got great functionality without any problem and sadly some does.

Regarding the screen, I couldn't find reports about the issues I mentioned above for the Tab S 10.5. It looks like the screen on the 10.5 is using a newer technology that would fixe these issues. I so wish it would be the same for 8.4 !
Not everybody is noticing these issues on 8.4, but then I believe it to be related to lower sensitivity to the issues. They are not obvious at all, and basically impossible to notice in lightened environments and/or watching colored images.

I'm not having any of the issues you highlighted with the screen. If you have already voided your warranty it would be interesting to see if you have the same issue with my asop build.
Not having any issue with my tab s 8.4 here... love this tablet.. i was a user of nexus 7 2nd gen..

As a newb at flashing roms, I didn't go further than rooting at the moment.
Regarding the screen, while I am surprised that people report not noticing the issues at all, I am convinced many just don't notice them.
The smearing is actually more felt, guessed than seen. But once noticed, it becomes an annoyance.
The green/yellow tint is only visible on white backgrounds and when comparing to other screens or looking at it for a duration (reading e-books or internet webpages). It's far from being obvious on first sight.
The Mura effect however should become obvious to anyone looking for it. You can try with the follwing steps:
- Download and install screen adjuster.
- Get in the complete darkness
- Launch Screen adjuster, and set Red, Green and Blue to +5. Make sure it's switched on
- Look at a completely black background
=> The black background won't be black anymore but very dark grey. This is what Screen adjuster did by adding +5 in each color. If the screen is affected by mura effect, some areas will be lighter grey and others darker.
This is an issue that affects the 3 tab S 8.4 I tried (I exchanged it twice), as well as my Galaxy SII and my PS Vita. I just wish it wouldn't be the case, but I have yet to see an amoled display that isn't affected, and can hardly beleive I would be cursed badly enough to always get faulty units.
No issues on mine. The screen is superlative!

I've already tested mine T800 for mura with many shades of grey and no issues found.

Yes, from my readings here and there, T800 screens whouldn't suffer from the same issues. They use a different technology though, I wish T700 would be using the same.

I had this problem on my both two Samsung Tab S 8.4 LTE T705.
on first I thought it is related to that one, but after purchased 2nd Tab S 8.4 T705, I noticed screen going yellowish.
specially in middle screen while in horizontal rotate specially reading something that has white background.
