[Q] Suggestions for a video? - I've got a camera and an Xperia S left over! - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Hey Xperia loving folks!
Two months ago, I decided to post a video of my Xperia S running one of the first stable KitKat ROMs on YouTube. To my surprise, that video has been watched (almost) twelve thousand times already (even though I don't like that video since it's too amateuristic)!
Apparently, there is still a lot of interest in the Xperia S.
Since I have a camera and since I'd love to learn more about videography (I'm really into photography right now, planning on doing more though), making videos for you, yes you, would be ideal for both of us!
Back to my question: do you have any suggestions as to what I could show you on my Xperia S? I've done a horrible walkthrough of the first stable KitKat ROM already, and I've made a comparison video between the Xperia S and my new Xperia Z1 (which, surprisingly, did not seem to attract a lot of viewers at all).
If you'd like to see something, preferrably something that does not require root or kernel changes, I'd love to know!
I could root my phone again, flash a kernel and a ROM, but that'll take quite some time, which I don't really have anymore now that I'm very busy with my studies for Artificial Intelligence.
P.S. Here's the link to the horrible KitKat walkthrough, and here is the S vs. Z1 comparison, which is a little less amateuristic.
:good::cyclops::good:

Well maybe you can do a video review and first look of a certain custom (without music of course)

I'd have to get a microphone first (hence my "music videos" so far). But I'll see what I can do. Custom ROMs I reckon is indeed the only thing people are really interested in seeing.

Should i get Xperia Arc?

As stated from title , im wish to get an xperia arc since its camera is good and used sony x10 , which was fun flashing custom roms. Just wondering whether there are any problems with the phone and is there customs on the phones ?

Personally, at this time, it's much better to look for a newer released phone. Probably a dual core with a bigger internal memory. But if camera is your main thing, then go for arc plus it's design is really a beauty. And for average usage, arc is enough.

I wouldnt buy a sony again.
And is the arc's camera still the best? My friend says his S2 beats my arc's camera in test.

I just got mine delivered today. Compared to X10, it is a jump forward. I like it so far, fast and responsive. Galaxy S2 looks good but at $150 more compared to arc.

Hmmmm . Im using optimus 2x , and well not much customization like timescape and those things. Like those things when i was on x10 . Anyways got the 2x for gaming but then im growing older and my speed is getting slower so dual cores arent my thing anymore . So yea ill reconsider about getting the phone.

Let's, first, see how things develop on the Galaxy SII/Galaxy series front. Apple has already got the Galaxy Tab 10.1 banned in Europe for copyright infringements, and it's seeking a ban of the Galaxy Tab and Galaxy range of phones in the US, too.

Well, that's debatable. The SGS2 takes pretty good pictures as well.

I have used following phones:
HTC Desire, Samsung Galaxy S, iPhone 4, Xperia X10 & Arc
I can say that I was never satisfied with the ugliness of HTC & cheapness of Samsung.
HTC Desire was always short of Internal Memory, Samsung KIES sucks a big time, touch screen is aweful.
iPhone is good phone but not for me, nothing much to do
Xperia X10 was a good effort from SE but lacks proper updates.
Xperia Arc is complete package:
1. Awesome design (best of all android devices, even better than iFail)
2. Best Camera.
3. Decent video recording.
4. Great Sound (compared to HTC, Samsung)
5. Impressive UI & touch screen.
6. Regular updates from SE as well.
only RAM is 512 (not a major problem)
But again, its my opinion

I think this will help you.
Here is the Camera Test(Not by ME):
http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=1&idPhone1=3619&idPhone2=3621&idPhone3=3598
From the above you can see ARC have Good Quality.
In My Opinion:
Camera Quality is very good when compared to SG,Desire.
i was using the X10 since sept 2010 and i was holding out for a SE dual core phone, but the X10 was just too slow.
I just got an Xperia Arc used on Craigslist, so it price was good.
As for the camera quality, every thing looks good on the camera screen, but i haven't reviewed or taken enough pictures to make a good judgement about the Xperia Arc's camera.
However, from the few that I have reviewed, it does take better night pictures, but they are FILLED with noise. I have kept all the photos on my SD card. I used to have a K750 --> K800 --> X10 --> Arc and I just keep moving the pictures over from the memory sticks and you definitely see the improvement in camera quality, except from the X10 --> Arc.
If you can get it for a good price, I would just upgrade, sell the X10 for whatever you can get, and then wait it out for a dual core SE or have fun with it until you decide to drop the big bucks for a SGS2 or something that is WAY faster.
The Arc's speed is much better than the X10's but it's still a bit laggy, esp with a huge SMS history and Whatpapp logs...

Wow seriously? I hadn't heard that, on what grounds?
It was my second day owning an arc in the US. Of course I have been digging threads to find a way to easily root this US model. Also the new firmware update is not available for US. It makes me think, isn't the United States a big market for SE, why don't they have the US a little higher priority?

Worth getting Ion?

I figure this is the best place to ask considering you guys have the Ion already.
I currently have an Xperia S and will be getting an S2 soon aswell( just cause I don't like the look of the S3), but is it worth me getting rid of my SXS and getting this device instead?
I'm dubious whether to or not because I've had my phone right from when it came out and seeing as it was meant to be a flagship handset, it didn't live up to that and had nothing but problems. Mainly problems with tint, laggy and battery life. Are these problems present on the Ion?
How has the phone been for you lot so far? Any real plus points or big negatives?
Any feedback about this device from yous would be great in helping me.
Thanks in advance!

The ion is a really nice phone. I haven't had any lagging issues and the battery life has been better than I expected. The screen is gorgeous and everything works well. I know the ion isn't that much different from the S, but you'd have LTE, which is a good selling point. This phone flies on AT&T LTE.
It's good that it hasn't had any lagging issues yet, so at least that's an improvement.
The main thing I'm not liking about the Ion though, is that it's only running GB at the moment. That's disgraceful really, especially considering the lower end models from 2011 have got official ICS and unofficial JB. That's my main draw back to be honest.

I have the ion, Xperia S and Xperia P. The ion is a great device. Big beautiful screen, fast and smooth OS and the LTE is screaming fast. Camera is good as are most Sony cameras. No issues with tint like the Xperia S and I haven't experienced any lag on any of these phones (save for the general slowdown of ICS on the Xperia S compared to GB) Battery life isn't the greatest for me, but then again with the ion I find myself using it more because of its screen size. Don't use my ipad to look stuff up as much since I got the ion.
The HDMI out on all these new Xperias is outstanding and with a livedock or the ion dock you can turn the device into a gaming console or mini computer. The 16gb built in plus the ability to add a microSD card is great.
I don't consider it coming with GB a downside because Sony's GB is incredibly smooth and stable. These phones fly with their build of GB. ICS is coming soon (within the next three months maybe as soon as 2-3 weeks) and the devs at Sony are working to get JB out for these phones. (I have a friend that works at Sony and I know this for a fact, they really want to get JB out asap.)
There isn't much development on the ion right now but hopefully that will change soon. The device is still new. If you like Sony phones I think its a can't miss especially because of the LTE.
Out of the devices I have I tend to use the Xperia P and ion the most then Xperia S then Lumia 900. (Yes I do switch between all of them regularly) The P is a better version of the S IMHO and the ion is just a great big screen device.
On a complete contrast to you, I've found my Xperia S to be running a lot smoother on ICS and with only minor lag rarely, whereas I had a lot of lag on GB. I seem to have had that experience the exact opposite to everyone else I've spoken to who has this phone. Regarding battery life, as long as it's better than Xperia S then I really don't mind. I'm a really heavy user so obviously I can't expect it to last a full day with my amount of usage.
The main thing with me is that my minds split pretty much 50/50.
From the reviews I've read, YouTube videos I've watched and even from reading here on XDA, it does sound like a great choice of phone. No matter what, it's gotta be a step up from Xperia S anyway
But, with it taking a maximum of a few months just to get the ICS update, by then the Xperia Mint should be coming out soon after (according to leaks) which will supposedly have ICS on there with JB update available right away. Does that not make the Ion redundant in reality?

I doubt it either but if we're right and it hasn't, then it just shows that Sony isn't doing a lot for their reliability than they were as SE because realistically, by the end of this year/start of next year, quite a few of the high end phones will be running JB. Included in that list should be all the flagship phones, which the mint is supposed to be.

Given the track record of all the manufacturers and carriers I seriously doubt many phones will be running JB by Jan if any other than the Nexus devices especially here in the US. Maybe 2-3 other phones but I just don't see any more than that. Look how long ALL the manufacturers took for ICS. Yeah JB isn't as big an upgrade from ICS as it was for ICS from GB but I still don't see it happening. Sony has been the best so far with at least keeping their customers informed and even releasing betas.

You really think Sony are the best as far as updates? Yeah they've kept customers informed as to releases, but only to a minimal extent. At least from what I've noticed. They generally just say "next update due for Q1" for example and won't release it until Q3 or 4.
I understand that they'd rather wait a bit longer and bring out a fully optimized version rather than release a buggy version sooner, but with each phone Sony are bringing out, they're falling further and further behind. In my opinion at least.

Any other company pushed out ICS to their entire 2011 line? (I know the play didn't get it but is a niche phone) when you compare them to Motorola, htc, Samsung yeh I think Sony does the best with updates.

Suggestions needed..

I am currently using Galaxy Note N7000, and want to change my phone. SO far I have seen in shop xperia ZL seems fine.
I also have in my mind iPhone 5, Xperia Z and lastly galaxy s4 -
My priority is something like this - off course phone, msg , notes, calender
*** very good camera (not lot of software features, I hardly use them, just good and easy photography)
*** Music
*** Design
*** wifi hotspot (I need it mostly , coz I need internet connection in my iPad),
*** at least 12 hrs battery life with 3g (Galaxy note hardly gives me 2 hr )
****I want to keep my phone at least for 2 years
I dont care about features that Galaxy S4 has coz I will be hardly using them like. with 5 inch screen why should I make air gesture when the screen is quite and comfortably reachable etc .
Do you think xperia ZL will be a good phone for me for next 2 years ?
I havent had a phone for 2 years so far. But I don´t see why the ZL would be a bad choise.

Kind of dissapointed here, was expecting more from Sony, the audio DAC is integrated in the Qualcomm, it´s not a Sony one, my Xperia ARC used to sound better.
I´m planning to upgrade my current earphones (Senheiser CX300-II) to see if i can somehow find a more confortable sound for me.
But remember, sound is a very unique experience, every user has a different way, a differente taste for sound, so what i don´t consider excelent might be gud enough for you.
Best way, grab your earphones/headphones, go a to a local store and try them on the ZL.

Best smartphone in the market for me.Period.
I absolutely love the design, in 2-3 days time it seems so small and thin on your hand...but you have a 5" inch full hd screen.
Beautiful.
I was kind of hesitating with the on screen buttons, i used a mod to reduce the size (u can even make them transparent), now i would find very hard to use a smartphone with hard buttons.

Well, that´s hard these days, i think the ZL has some weak points, it´s not perfect, and once i find the perfect phone then i´ll stick with it for a long period of time, but surely it´s a lasting phone, everything u need is there, sure there are those minor things u would like to be better (sound quality with earphones for me).

Regarding this, there are a few features i love from ZL, the Car Mode, the Remote Control app (u can control every single tv, music player or whatever electronic equipment with remote control) and the Small Apps (apps u can bring to the screen, small sized, such as navigator, calculator, phone, notes, camera...)
The Galaxy S4 is a hell of a phone, don´t like all the Samsung bloatware, but indeed a very nice choice as well.
Now it´s up to you considering your needs, taste and priorities.
Hi there,
Zl is a good phone, in terms of what u hv stated. Im not too sure bout the camera tho, heard so much complain bout it. But its fine for me. Software, well its android and u can download tons of it or u can just leave it alone.
Ip5 is a good choice too. As i was never a fan of apple, but particularly ip5 really capture my eyes.
Choose wisely

Thank you all for the replies (I already did ) ... I was doing some research ...the camera is samples are quite good I found but best camera is in iPhone, I am not fan of any mobile OS but I like the simplicity in iPhone camera/other app (iOS 7 also looks promising).
But Android is also quite nice with lots of features , I love them all.

Hi, I'm a Xperia S owner, I'm starting look for a replacement.
Is Xperia ZL a good choice?
I want a quad-core Android, that will be updated to Android 4.3 and 5.0.
I'm from Brazil, here we don't have officially (= no warranty) Xperia Z, Xperia ZR and HTC One.
I can easily find Galaxy S4, Nexus 4 and Xperia ZL.
It's important to say, LTE here is running at 2600 in the next two years also at 700.

[Q] Z1 ROM to Z1 compact?

I am sure I saw someone mention kind of patch to use a z1 ROM on a Z1C without issues. however I can't find it anywhere, so if it actually does exist can someone please provide the link?
And is it a simple process?

I can find it easily in dev section...... you said you got M8 and now got Z1c?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2668416
Remember this method only works for Monx and RomAur,some other roms may also work but you have to modify the rom to make it works on z1c. Only Monx and Romaur is easy method but Monx is still on 4.4.2 now and only Romaur got 4.4.4.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54330224&postcount=83
I've tested it works on z1c perfectly but I don't know which recovery compatible with it. I was using it without recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/development/cwm-recovery-kernel-deactivated-ric-t2814708
Someone told this recovery might work but no one knows, I will test it later when I have more free time.
That was me, I also didn't have enough time to test this yet. There's not much that could go wrong though, since the kernel can easily be replaced anytime it should be sufficient to reflash it from the already downloaded FTF (like step 9 in the instructions you wrote). Anyway, I'm gonna try that tonight (if it keeps raining here  ).

Thank you! And yeah I needed to get rid of my M8 due to money problems loving the z1C. Just underwhelmed by the camera.

Actually the answer can be no, that's why I asked for a workable recovery. I was stuck on Sony logo and even step9 doesn't fix it, I was wiped the whole phone and finally made it return to normal. Dualrecovery should also flashed somethings in the rom, not only flashed the recovery partiton and not compatible with Romaur v9.1.

I'm also coming from HTC and the focus better than z1c on average. The problem on z1c is focus and made photo slightly not clear and sharp as expected. When it can focus, the 20M 1/2.3" sensor quality is decent and outperformed HTC but it is unreliable so I back to use HTC takes photo though the details isn't decent but I think a stable camera is more important.
I got z1c mainly for the 4k recording because I'm a video lover. So, I can just ignore the problem but majority of people used it as a photo camera, they may don't think this is good.

Just make sure you updated to 4.4.4 and flash this mode v7 8M mode(20M is buggy) and you are good. The focus and image quality is improved and more acceptable now. Sony said they will rewrite the camera software and big improvement is coming but it will out with Android L and still a long time for us to wait for.

Thanks. Have you got the link/source when Sony actually said that cause if that's the case I'll hold on to the z1c for longer

That is a rumor news, no official. But I do believe it because there is not much surprise on z3/z3c, I wonder without the software revolution what's left on the new phones?
I don't actually think Sony will release it for z1/z1c/z2 but since we are all still using the same camera module, that mean we can port it but only after when we received Android L updates and xposed released ART ver because Android L will remove dalvik mode and xposed currently no ART.
We should receive Android L at Q1 2015 if L no late and it will also take some time to do porting. So, at the end it is a long waiting time. Personally, I have a high chance to just stick with z1c on 2015 because I don't real want to spend too much again on Sony and z3c is quite big in my opinion. evleak said 4.5" but from the leaked picture the size more believable at around 4.55" - 4.6". I give the chance for Sony this year and if I want to upgrade I would like to try Iphone, Samsung or go back HTC next time.
SA(auto scene modes) will only work with 8M originally and that mod made it also works on 20MP but high burst mode should no longer working correctly and 20MP SA also got bad focus. It's just not good to use 20MP SA mod.

Do you mean the v7 8M? It does got little freeze and slow loading but the problem should not be that big.

They are different mods from different devs. If you are on kitkatslim evo8.0/8.1, you can flash this patch to return to stock then flash the v7 8MP mode. Remember to clean all settings related with camera every time before you flash mod.
But I may forced back 4.4.2 my Sony SmartWatch2 doesn't seems working good with 4.4.4, some of my sw2 apps not yet updated to fully working under 4.4.4. I'll need to do some more testing to confirm it. And I think the 4k recording quality dropped very slightly in v7 because it used more of libs from z1c stock 4.4.4 and affected the 4k quality this is my guess. We will need to wait for z2 4.4.4 release to real fix all problem.

I just flashed the rom and the kernel and it works for me as well, cool :good: And thanks for your guide.

Is recovery still working?
Yep.

Is Z5 Premium the right choice for me?

Hi everyone, so last month I decided to switch from iPhone 6 Plus(16GB) to an Android phone. I'm just tired of Apple and iOS, no further comments. To begin I watch lots of movies and some TV shows, I'm thinking about a phone with a big more-than-FHD-resolution screen. As far as I see Z5 Premium is a great choice despite the hardware, and it has a MicroSD slot, which is pretty important for me. On the other hand 6P's screen is better than the iPhone 6 Plus, but not as good as Z5 Premium and has no MicroSD slot; I don't understand why Google hates removable storage... Although the software support for 6P is great, and we all are aware of Sony's software update policy. I am also hyped for the new HTC Nexus, but like I said big screen, high resolution(preferably more than FHD) and microSD(unless 64GB+) are the features I consider until the release of the next gen Nexus phone. So I don't want to wait for nothing. I'm not a phone gamer and hardware doesn't have to be superb. Last thing to add is that I've been doing ISS spotting, and in terms of camera performance, I would like to have a phone with high ISO values, and high MP. I know I want a lot from a smartphone, and Z5 Premium seems to be more suitable for my needs. But the question here is should I wait for the next Nexus Phone, or should I go with Z5 Premium. I would be much appreciated if you post ANY opinions. Lastly I would like to say that the reason why I open this thread to the Z5 forums is that I feel closer to the Z5P. Thank you all and excuse my errors if there's any.
Looks like you've done quite a bit of research on what you want. My question is where those the only fones you considered? See www.gsmarena.com for a whole lot more that might also suit you. Now I have a Z5P and it might be the last Sony fone I get. It is good, but the rate of updates is slow, the route to root is painful but I am enjoying it.

My only concern is the update speed of all Xperia phones. I know there are tons of other solutions, but I think I will stick to either Sony, or Nexus. I LOVE Nexus and I think I will wait and see the 2016 Nexus, if it has a decent camera I will go with it otherwise Z5P...

Sony has proved to be somewhat slow in updating. I've only just got the April security patch level but it is for LL 6.0.1. The Z5P is a very good fone, you'll enjoy it if you get one.

Answering you I like Trying summing up a good nice novel! .. where to start? well let me answer in Bullets, keeping your impressive research in perspective. ( keep in mind i am diehard xperia fan, and current on my 6th Xperia device z5p E6833)
1. Z5P comes with 128GB support for SD card, i have 32gb installed. classtype10 toshiba
2. Sony updates are usually later (than sooner). but i like their ROMS interface. keep it simple and to the point policy
3. Z5p has GREAT sharp HD screen and viewing angles are amazing. you can actually read text even from 30degree angle.
4. but in general ~ The maximum display brightness in Z5 Premium is a little lower when comparing to Z3+, Z5 and Z5 Compact. The maximum display brightness of Z5 Premium is 600cd while it's 700cd in Z3+, Z5 and Z5 Compact. Also the Z5p reduces brightness further when the device temperature rises specially OUTDOORS. (especially summer).
5. z5p has GOOD battery life! compare to other big screen fones, lasts 2 days (1day if 4g browsing with hd movies)
6. z5p are difficult to root (since you are coming from iphone. i would suggest you to please do a bit research about ROOTING android devices (models to models) and android versions to version. ROOTING z5p is one tricky. the question you should ask WHY ROOTING? and based on that criteria consider it one of the third option in your criteria list of 1. screen size 2. hd 3. rooting before buying any device.
7. GOOGLE Android MM has dm-verity (security feature ) which make sure your device is not tampered in terms of software and it does not boot if any one had tried fooling iwth your device (changing boot etc). on TOP of that , sony has SONY-RIC since years which make sure NO one tries to tamper RUNNING ANDROID (rooting/etc) and SONY-RIC shutsoff the device (or reboots) whenever any software tried exploiting system vulnerabilities to gain ROOT ACCESS.
THE BOTH FEATURE COMPBINED in z5p, make device heavy on RAM.
if you like SONY z5p. you should give it a try. also based on your criteria the following two devices you should CONSIDER (at least looking at, or going to mall holding in hands for hands-on experience)
1. Xperia XA performance ( 6.0" screen HD, but batterlife is below average)
2. LG V10

Thanks for your reply! Actually I have an old s5830i, and I have a general knowledge of Android ecosystem. But my intention is not to make the warranty void in the first day. I know Z5p has a very good screen, and the market is full of similar devices right now. But I think I will be waiting for this years Nexus release, and decide considering those phones.

I saw that coming... But I don't think I would need an SD card if 128GB version is cheap. I will wait and see just to make sure about my choice. I hope they are going to release it sooner this year(compared to Nexus 5X and 6P release)

I'm not trying to throw a spanner in your works but Nexus has been getting more expensive with the new iterations. I see you're going to wait. That's good. Enjoy whichever device you do end up with.
