[Q] S Pen "Back" gesture not working - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I just installed the newest Alliance ROM on my N7100 from this thread.
So far it looks awesome and I'm excited to get more familiar, but I'm having a problem with the S Pen "Back" gesture not working. The one where you draw a '<' from top to bottom while holding the button on the pen.
When I try to do this, I see the line being drawn on the screen but it doesn't actually do a back command. I used it all the time on the previous version of the Alliance ROM so I know I'm doing it right. I've searched through the menus to find a way to enable this gesture, but couldn't find anywhere to do it. I looked in the "S Pen" menu within the system menu, but it didn't seem to have this option.
Anybody have any ideas I can try?

As far as i know there are no gesture features on TW based 4.3 roms anymore

Because this rom including note 3 features. There is no spen gesture on note 3. back and settings buttons work with spen on note 3 so no need.

SOLVED!!! Help with spen gestures ?

Hey guys.. Is anyone else having difficulties trying to launch a application using the spen feature? You can program the spen to open up applications using any gesture but for some reason anytime I try to make one It doesnt work.. I hold the button down and draw my gesture it then crops a photo to save instead of opening anything up?
Any tips? Am using simple gestures like the figure 8 ..or 0. Still nothing?

Hey bro lol are you bringing up the gesture app first? It only works there. Hold button and draw a line up then the grey pad comes up then do your gesture. You should have asked me yesterday lol. Hey h0tw1r3 brought stock ics port from n7005 to note 1! Go check it.
Gotta check it out now...wish hotwire was here too...ill gtalk ya later...lol..hey thanks for the tip on gestures..
If your device is rooted, you can try my app, it allows to create custom SPen gestures that are executed anywhere without starting special window.

does anyone know how to disable the back button at the bottom of the screen when using the s pen?
In the s memo. . You have a small icon at the bottom right to toggle between s pen only and both finger and s pen input
scribbled from my note 2 (N7100)

I do not know
There's a solution.
Just use app called gmd spen control. It disables all finger touches of you need it to.
You can even set it automatically to disable finger input when you pull out your spen.
(this app doesn't work on 4.4.2 yet)

[Q] Soft Buttons on S Pen Release?

Dear Devs. Chefs...
Please please please make a mode that will enable a soft buttons menu when we release the s pen from the note 2, :fingers-crossed:
Very annoying when u have to touch your finger to toggle the buttons.
I hope some one has thought about this.
It would be great if it buttons would be integrated on the statusbar.
I'm using a Stock Rooted Rom...
I've tried the status bar enabled full time and that is annoying too...
Looking for trigger based soft buttons to be specific
I want the S pen features to work...
I've tried the PAC rom! I like it but then I like the S pen features more!
Thank you Cheers!

S pen features working only in Samsung rom base, coz its closed sources, u can try another apps from market.
Is there any app that enables " Lets say Floating Soft Buttons '' ?
I've tried searching and ended up with nothing resourceful!
1. Press pen button
2. Swipe pen downwards on bottom left and bottom right of screen
3. Profit
Gestures aren't super fast but they work

It's not disabled. It's just isn't possible. S pen works on potentiometer. It just sends the movement signals the pressure on pen tip and the button. It does not simulate human touch. So it's not possible.

OMG Thank you so much !!!

From four months of using Note II until today I never knew about this gesture feature...THANKS for the info.
My bad. ..
Sorry n Thank you for the tip. .. .
But there is no option to add command like go back to main menu or switch application.
I could allocate a task manager though.

Why don't you try flashing pie controls? I think its possible for any rooted ROM.

[Q] What's the best setup for S-Pen on CM/AOSP ROM?

I'm running PAC-Man ROM and am thankful for the settings that allow me to use gestures (when the S Pen's button is held) but it's a huge pain to have to hold the button for these gestures. The button on the pen is too low on the pen for my liking when I'm trying to use it as a pointing device/extension of my hand.
A couple of ideas I have had:
-the input settings that I described earlier
-the Sidebar application. I would love it if I could access shortcuts through Sidebar that emulate the back and menu keys but unfortunately the only button that can be emulated is the home key!
-CM S Pen Add-on used in conjunction with Note Buddy. I like the idea here, but I'd like to know if there's a way to automatically activate the AOSP on-screen buttons when I detach the S-Pen, but Note Buddy doesn't seem to support any extensions.
Are there any other solutions you guys have come up with that allow me to use my Note in a practical way with ONLY the S-Pen? That means I don't want to have to take any fingers off of the pen or have to lift my other hand to press the menu and back buttons.
I use GMD SPen control & cant say enugh good things about it! It can do everything you are looking for (I think) I have it open lecture notes when I detach the pen, & simulate the home button when I attach it! But you can set up any user gestures you want!
Just bought the pro version...
Very nice application...
And it's running well on carbon 1.8..
Thank you....g

I'm not really willing to shell out $6 just yet... I'll have to do some more research!
I also found another method: use the ribbons feature built into PAC-Man ROM (not sure if it's an AOKP feature) in order to swipe out a tray from the right side of the screen that has the nav buttons in it. Still wish I could get the real navbar to display by default though!
Edit: Just remembered there's also PA Pie.
To add a navbar to ANY rom that doesnt have one..
open your buildprop (in /system)
scroll down to the bottom, and after the last line, add this line
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
save the changes, reboot the phone, and BOOM, you have a navbar..works on AOSP and TW roms..

Getting a navbar to display is not the issue. What's difficult is trying to get the navbar to display only when the pen is detached! :/

I have a tasker task to launch with the help of secure settings to hide the navigation bar when spen is attached and to show it when I de-attach the spen. Just take advantage of the expandable desktop function (and select it to only hide the nav bar when pen is inserted).
Works like a charm.

Are you referring to the "Expand desktop" option under Custom ROM Actions? That option has a red circle next to it for me, meaning that it is not supported by my ROM. :'(
Which rom are you on? Is it featured in your rom?
If so, you need to turn on expanded desktop and reboot. You might also need to make secure settings a device administrator.
For me, on SlimBean, it's a red circle at first too, but it turns green when following my steps above.
Try it out and report your progress.

Haptic Feedback for Navigation Buttons?

Just purchased Tab Pro 8.4 and noticed there is no Haptic feedback when using the Back and Recent Apps Buttons (right/ left of home button) There is on my note 10.1 and note 10.1 (2014 Edition)
Anyone know how to enable this? Feels werid cause I usually hit the buttons without looking at them. And k always think I'm missing cause no feedback lol. Any help would be awesome.
Is this happening on your tab pro 8.4 also?
If someone else can confirm if haptic feed back is working for there nav buttons. I would appreciate that. Cause its not for me
What I found is
On my, note 3 and note 10.1 2014 Edition
In settings /device /sound there is an haptic feedback checkbox for softkeys (nav buttons)
Unfortunately on my Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, no such checkbox exists
Anyone no of a way to turn it on without root?

Nope, no haptic feedback on stock keyboard. Nor option in setting to enable it.

They may not have included the motor on the 8.4? Try going into settings and clicking the search button then search for vibration, any results pop up?

You can get haptic feedback on the Google keyboard, so it's there. Also try a long press on the soft keys, it will vibrate.
