Dropbox Question - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

So I have a 2 part Dropbox question that basically amounts to me not fully understanding how it all works even though I use it on a daily basis... maybe someone here could help me out...
So I have Dropbox, on my phone (Galaxy Note 3) and 2 PCs, Home and Office.
Question 1 - You know how Dropbox on Android automatically when you're on Wifi uploads every single picture from your phone to a "Camera Uploads" folder on your Dropbox? Well since they're all uploaded already, and I have something like 3000 photos, which is starting to make my Gallery load slowly... Wouldn't the best way to clean them out be to just completely wipe all the photos from my phone... Then go through the Dropbox folder on one of my desktop computers and delete any crappy pictures I don't need to keep, leave the rest in there for backup purposes, and then if I wanted to keep some on my phone, copy those ones back onto my phone?
Question 2 - If I go through that "Camera Uploads" folder (Or any other folder in my Dropbox really) deleting and renaming and reorganizing files on one of my desktop computers... Will all those changes instantly happen on the others? Even if I'm deleting and/or renaming and/or moving around hundreds of files? What's to stop the other computer from syncing back to the one I'm currently going through and undoing all the changes I just made? Like if I have a folder called "X1" and another called "X2" and I delete a bunch of stuff out of each and then combine them into one and then name the new folder "X" ... The other computer at work isn't gonna go and sync my "X2" folder back to the computer I'm currently working on, right?
Obviously these are both a simple but clear misunderstanding of how all this cloud syncing works. I get it in principle, and use it constantly, but there are certain ideas of it that I think I'm just overthinking probably.
Any help would be appreciated.
Also I know that Q&A goes in the Q&A forum but I thought since this is a software thing and not really a phone thing it would be more appropriate in here...

From how I know it works (at least for me) as long as all accounts are logged in with the same info (name/password), and are auto-syncing, the folder that is modified first will be copied to the others when you open Dropbox on the others. In your example you have three (two PCs, and your phone). If you change something from your phone, it will replicate to your two PCs. If you change something on one of your PCs, it will replicate to your other PC, and your phone. It also works with the online site the same way. I just changed something in my phone, logged on to the website through my PC browser, and it replicated right away to match what I did on my phone.
EDIT - And I know you are talking about pics and gallery, and for that I would move/delete from the app on your phone, and not through the gallery. I think if you do something in the gallery it will just change back because you're not actually modifying Dropbox. I'm not really sure since I do all my stuff through Dropbox itself. You can try with one pic to see if it deletes from your other places if you delete it from the gallery.

Thanks for the reply. So yea if it's basically doing it instantly, then I think I'd be safe doing my plan the way I'm planning on it. My plan is to delete everything off the phone, which I know from experience doens't sync deletions to the dropbox... Just new pics get synced to dropbox... So if I delete pic11111.jpg it will still be in my dropbox folder... So with ALL my pics deleted from my phone's gallery, I can then go to my computer and spend a couple hours deleting specific garbage pictures, and those will then sync between the 2 pcs. Then I can move them out of that "Camera Uploads" folder and into a more permanent "Pics" folder. Or move first is probably even better...
Thanks again.

I use Dropbox all the time, I've got 4 accounts (Need that extra space) and then I've got it installed on my Note 3, Nexus 7, and a Galaxy S3. As for computers it's on my Mac, two laptops and a PC desktop. I installed them on all of those for the referral bonus space but now they all have the exact same account. So in answer to your question, you could go on your phone go into settings and turn off camera uploads, but then you would need to go into your gallery and manually upload the pictures you want to keep (which isn't a huge hassle to me at least.) Since you are using cloud storage technically all the photos that get uploaded wouldn't get eating up your space unless you have google+ enabled as well, then they will appear on your phone. Not all of them, but a good majority. I don't know what kind of a computer you use, but when I have dropbox on my MAC sync all of my folders that i have, I swear I get pictures that are quadrupled all the time....so frustrating. In answer to your second question, you can modify any picture, document, etc, that has been uploaded from dropbox to a computer and make any changes you want to it without it making changes to another linked computer. Only way it it would is if you put that changed photo for example, back into your dropbox folder. Hopefully that made sense

Mass deleting pictures

Hey guys,
Just wondering, is there an easy way to delete pictures off the phone? This is a REALLY stupid question, so sorry for using up a thread for it, lol.
I've got a ton of pics taken with my cam, but as far as I know, I have to tap+hold then select delete, then confirm yes I want to, but I have to do this with one picture at a time, and it's taking FOREVER! lol
Any help appreciated!

I'm still clueless as I have yet to actually have experience with a WP7 device, but wouldn't it be easier if you used the computer to pick what pictures you want to delete en mass?
asked them via twitter and they said that you have to delete them one by one or by album, also the same for deleting multiple sms messages. sucks
To delete all the pics you took with the phone's camera, go into the Pictures hub, select ALL, hold on the Camera Roll icon, select CLEAR.
Glad to be of service.
Wow, that sucks pretty bad....
So having a couple hundred pics, I have to delete ALL of them in the album, or just delete a few one by one.

Wait a minute......you've taken 200 pics, and now you want the phone to be able to magically work out which ones you want deleted and which ones you want to keep?
You do realize, right, that your phone can sync your camera roll pics to your PC via the Zune wireless link, and that you can set that up to remove them from the phone once they have been synced? Then you can "mass delete" the ones you don't want using your PC, and just drag the folder onto the phone icon in Zune and it'll re-sync the remaining photos back to your phone.
It's not that big of a deal.

So basically you can't easily select let's say 76 pictures from 600 you have on the device and delete them?
You can just do ALL or ONE BY ONE?

You can delete an entire folder, or you can delete individual pictures. If you want to remove pictures en-masse, there is an easy way.
The way I do it is that I have my phone set up to sync any pics I take to my PC and delete them from the phone. This happens wirelessly and automatically, I don't have to do anything.
Whenever I feel like it, I look at the "From Jim's HD7" folder it creates in my pictures library on my PC. I remove the ones I don't want and move the rest into proper folders within my directory structure on the PC.
The PC then syncs these folders back to the phone - again automatically and wirelessly.
So the answer to your question is: Yes you can remove photos en-masse - it is done on the PC, quickly and easily. Generally the sync bit happens overnight while the phone is charging, and the housekeeping of the pics I do maybe once a week.
It is a much better way of doing things. Zune's wireless sync is a godsend, it means the pics I take with my phone automatically get put onto my PC where they get backed up every night, so I need never lose any of my pics.
In the bad old days of WM6.5 I had to remember to physically connect my phone to my PC using USB, and transfer the files over myself. Which was Poo.

Thanks. Well, automatic sync is not for me, I use laptop mainly for work and don't want it to do any automatic stuff behind me.
I also don't use any home router. I use mobile cellular modem.
Anyway my question was regarding operations ON PHONE directly, assuming it's a smartphone, not computer, right?
But apparently WP7 in current state is just like an invalid. No go without a PC.
The described by yourself Zune sync is nice though, but by the wireless sync you mean WiFi?
Not possible via Bluetooth?

Why on Earth would you want to sync using bluetooth? Wifi has a greater range and speed. I can have my phone charging in my bedroom overnight and syncing to my PC in the study. Bluetooth doesn't have the range to do that. It's no good between rooms in a big house.
@Jim Coleman: there is no need to be like that. he has different needs. WM6.5 was around for so long that it could pretty much cater for everyone back in the early 2000s, but with the revamp, they've started over, so it doesn't do it now. maybe in the future? who knows?

Sync Solution for photos?

Hi
Despite being with Android for about 3 years I still haven't found an adequate sync solution, mostly for photos and videos. Can anyone help?
What I want is to connect my phone to my laptop, which is a mac. I don't mind if the connection is USB, wifi or bluetooth. USB is more flexible, there are times when I can't get both devices onto the same wifi connection.
I want the software to look at my photo archive on my laptop, and copy over any new files. It just needs to look at a date - if there are new files since the last time I synced, I want it to copy them.
Even better, though not essential, would be if it didn't mind whether I'd deleted or moved files from the laptop. It wouldn't look backwards, just see that the last sync was 22nd July and then copy any files since then regardless of whether the photos from 20th July had been deleted from the laptop but where still on the phone. This makes it easier to sort photos once they're on my hard drive.
I've tried Cheetah Sync, which works ok but only over wifi. If I'm travelling, there may not be a wifi connection. It also copies over everything - so if a photo has been deleted on the laptop, it's replaced again.

Oh, ok. I'll have a look.
EDIT - I came across a new app called CloudVault, which uploads photos to GDrive as you take them or when you're next on Wifi. Pretty good solution for me.

Is it me or my new SGN2???

While I am used to my Thunderbolt, which I just put to rest for my new SGN2, I find myself doing a bit of comparing between the two phones.
I am rooted with JellyBomb 9.0 now, but I was always able to hook my Tbolt up to my PC and view pictures from my phone files (DCIM, etc...) as PICTURES. With this new SGN2, I only get to see icons (the icon says JPG with a mini icon for Microsoft office pictures attached to the JPG icon. I actually have to click on each icon to open the picture which is awful since I take so many pictures.
I also noticed that I can't send multiple pictures as attachments anymore like I used to with my Tbolt. It says I can only send one at a time and then I must reopen the phone file and scroll through everything all over again.
I also have issues getting my pc's to recognize my phone. I keep getting hardware id missing popping up next to my pc's clock. If I go back and forth between MTP and the PTP or unplug and replug enough times, occasionally the PC will find the phone.
Am I doing something wrong??????
I'm open to any and every suggestion
Thanks

As for your first question, I can view all my pictures on internal or external storage on my PC through "My Computer" as thumb nails everytime. Maybe it's how your viewing it or the program your using to view it.
As for your second question, simply go to your gallery open the album you want to send pics from. If you want to send multiple pics in one mage from food albums then make an album with the pics you want to send in it. Or just view all pics at once, hit 'Menu' then 'select multiple' small boxes appear at the top right of each pic. Click each pic you want one by one full your done. Then while the ones you want to send are selected hit the symbol to the top right next to delete which is the Share button. Then pick your method of sharing either email or messages etc. It will automatically loaf all the pics on one message, then compile any text with it if you wish. Fill out intended recipient and send.
In short to answer the thread. .. It's you

Twisted, Perhaps it's not me. You told me about your success on question #1 but didn't bother to explain what the issue might be.
The fact that you can see your pics internally or externally is wonderful, but how is that helping my problem??
Thanx for the twisted advice
I have the same issue and find it quite annoying. I've mostly had all HTC devices before and the sd card contents show up fine along with all hidden folders etc. I don't have the same view on my GN2. All the hidden files don't show and only jpeg icons. Stock Rooted Deodexed rom.

I have had the problem viewing picture as thumbnails also. In what I have researched, it may be Windows 7 and probably Vista and how it iteracts with both my GS3 and GN2. If you google " pictures not showing up as thumbnails in Windows...." you will get a ton of results. I have tried a couple, but havent gotten too deep into it yet. Something about the way Windows caches the thumbnails and eventually the cache is full and has to be cleaned out to keep seeing thumbnails instead of file icons. That might give you something to go on... Good luck.
I don't have any advise on the picture issue. I just don't take many pictures. I just use picture preview in file explorer and scroll to confirm which I want to upload to Flickr.
As for the Missing Hardware ID, I don't have a solution, but it is a known issue by Microsoft and Samsung; they blame each other from what I read. Basically, there is a wrong driver downloaded from Microsoft for the Samsung mobile drivers. Some people have had success using the earlier drivers; you have download and disconnect your computer form the internet completely before connecting your phone to your PC after installing the earlier drivers. I've done this, but still have the issue, but I can get it to work with fewer plugging and unplugging the usb cable.

No image thumbnails when viewing pic folder on PC

Ever since I got my S3 a few weeks ago when I look at the DCIM photo folder I don't get a thumbnail image of my photos or videos. This makes it very difficult to pull photos from my phone to my computer because I can't see what the photo is till its copied to my desktop. Anyone have any idea why its doing this or a fix for it?
With Windows 7 the only way to see thumbnails is to use Kies or remove your SDCard and mount it directly (assuming you are saving images to your card). Even though the MTP protocol supports thumbnails, Microsoft's implementation of it in Win7 doesn't. Whats weird is that even with the custom rom I use *Frosty I'm not able to see the thumbnails but when I changed to Ktoonez Kernel I was able view thumbnails, no clue why.
Search broken again??
Removing your SDcard and inserting it into your PC is probably the simplest solution other than using Kies. But if you don't want to hassle with taking of your case (if you have one) then you could try connecting it as a camera instead of MTP. If that doesn't work, you could use your cloud service of choice and manually upload the photos and access the cloud from your PC. Just my 2 cents, sorry if it was too common sense.
Thanks for the tips. I guess I was just used to my NexusS not doing this so I thought something was wrong with my S3 when it wouldn't show any thumbnails when looking at my photo folders. I figured out the Kies thing last night by chance when I was seeing what that did but I don't want to load extra software on my work PC. I guess I'll stick with moving them from my picasa instant upload folder to my PC.

What sync method do you use for media

what have you found to be the most painless method for synching photos, movies, music, files, etc with your android phone and computer? Mostly a Mac based computer but I would like to hear about PC usage as well since there are many programs that are available for both.
I just signed up for dropbox but can kind of suck if you have a bunch of pics on your computer, transfer them to your phone and then the phone syncs them back to your computer and dropbox cloud. I realize I can unlink my computer but there are some other things I am reading about dropbox where if you deselect on the phone the pictures in the cloud go bye bye...still researching this.
It was nice to get 48 gb on my USA samsung note 2 today for free...for two years. Must be the rom I flashed.
Music is a big deal but pictures and movies are. I somehow lost all my pictures in the past week but did do a backup about a month ago. I still lost several baby pics of the kids that I am a little pissed at myself for not backing up previously. I dirty flashed the same rom and wiped some caches but I didn't think the pictures on my card should have been deleted.
Isyncr for itunes music its perfect my friend I use the paid version is well worth the money

For simple transfer of files, I use SSHDroid on the phone and Filezilla in sftp mode on the PC (for local wireless network transfer). I use both Linux and Mac, so it's cross platform and has never failed me. Easy and painless.
Music just gets uploaded to Google Music. I use the above for Movies, TVShows, etc. for offline viewing.
If I have time I pick music in the mediamonkey... if I'm lazy I just log onto the smb server and copy paste.
Sent from my Note 2 running PA2.99
I will check into those. I guess I really do a lot of music so in a pinch I can restore off my mac with android file transfer. I am working with dropbox this weekend to check it out a bit. I like the fact that after I take a picture it is uploaded to dropbox and my computer however long after taking it.
It appears to delete the pictures as well as they are deleted from the phone, as it was designed. I still have to look into what happens if I accidentally delete my picture album or something. That sounds like it would trigger a complete synch and subsequent deletion of the photos that I was trying to backup in the first place. In this instance, it sounds like dropbox would pretty much suck and having backed up to dropbox would have been worthless. Maybe there is a setting somewhere that makes it have to go through some authentication before deleting photos
