[Q] Bootloop with no Recovery/Download mode

Hi everybody,
I'm relatively new to ROMs and I think I've made a mistake. I rooted my phone with CASUAL (because I'm a noob like that), and after about of week of playing around with my new features I decided to try and get a new ROM, CyanogenMod 10.1. I followed a video guide on youtube called "How to install CyanogenMod 10.1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on the Samsung Galaxy S III/3" (can't post links) and used GooManager to flash the ROM over. The phone rebooted and it took me to a teamwin loading screen followed by a menu with 8 options. I thought it was weird, as it wasn't in the video, but one of the options was "install" so I clicked that, it showed the .zip for the ROM so I hit "flash". It rebooted again now and now continuously displays the spinning loading screen for CyanogenMod. I remember reading something something about CM 10 not working with ICS bootloaders, but all of the guides I read about flashing CM made no mention of it, so I didn't think much of it. Is this my problem?
I made a ROM backup with CWM Recovery, app and data backups with Titanium root, and even backed up my EFS folder, so I'm not worried about any data loss involved in a factory wipe or reset, but I need help getting there. I've read things about a USB jig, is this what I need to do? If so, , do I just need to make/buy and plug in the jig? What do I do afterwards?
Any and all help will be appreciated

If it does anything it isn't a hard brick. Never use rom manager or goo manager to flash something. That is a sure fire way to kill your phone.
If it was an out of date boot loader it wouldn't have flashed.
By the sounds of if your bootloop is from not wiping.

Everything you need to know is there. Pay close attention to step 5a it's proper wiping for twrp. Re wipe, re flash and you'll be fine. Don't forget to flash the gappps. Those videos are good and bad. Especially if you have no idea what you're doing it's a real fast way to a brick.

Cyanogenmod for Tab 3 10.1?

I have installed TWRP recovery but in the process I killed the standard OS. I was intending to put Cyanogenmod 12 on the machine after getting things backed up. Now I can't find the file.
My current build is P5210UEU0CNK1, which is a wifi-only US version.
If that is lacking, are there any recommendations for an alternate? I looked into reinstalling the original file but all the websites require membership.

I know. I'm talking to myself again but I had to say that I am truly confused. I found Cyanogenmod 12.1 for my P5210 tablet. Installation went well. When they say the first boot takes quite a while, believe it. It took two hours to finish updating all the apps. But here's the puzzle:
This thing isn't rooted! It was before I started, or at least I thought it was. I putTWRP on it, and as suggested I installed Houdini and GApp on as well. But Titanium refused to run. Running a root check confirmed it.
I guess I have two questions in my mind. How did I install TWRP and a new OS on a tablet that wasn't rooted. Or, if it was, why isn't it now?

flashing new roms removes roots on most devices unless said rom is pre-rooted. To my knowledge rooting is only initialy needed to install TWRP or CWM. After i think you can flash new roms and such without root and so root is only needed if you want to run apps with root like es file explorer or titanium backup and such.

And flash it in TWRP, after that you should be rooted again, it works for me on my galaxy tab 3 and kindle fire hd 7 whenever i flash a new rom and lose root

New to flashing/upgrading

Hi folks,
I'm after some information. My Nexus 4 is about kaput now with the battery lasting about 4 hours or so with a full charge so I am looking to move over to my S4 mini for a while before buying an upgrade.
However i don't fancy rolling back to 4.4.2 from 5.1.1 as have got accustomed to it now. so there for I am looking to upgrade/flash it or whatever.
I am quite the novice and have not done this on any phone before so I am looking for a bit of help,
I have looked over xda and read some bits but think someone just telling me would be better, i'm not a tech dunce but I am not 100% confident in this at the moment as there seems to be more than one way of doing this.
What do i need to do first and foremost to make the process go as planned?
I take it I need to "root" the phone first (what does this do ? give me access to the firmware level? is that it?) using a "recovery tool" as they are called (is that right?)
Then after I have done that I can install a fresh ROM onto the phone and basic app's etc.

A quick bullet guide or acknowledgement of the two threads above or pointing me towards some better ones would be great and any pointers or descriptions of the acronyms or places in menu's which may have had their names changed or have been moved.

Hi!, you dont need to worry about anything, the only thing that you need is follow these guides, but make sure if you have the correct variant.

First Install Kies and connect your phone to it( For correct phone drivers). And after phone connect wells, Close kies from task manager.
You Need Odin to install a recovery software in your phone(TWRP, Clock Recovery, Philip). I only used twrp now.

Suppose if you install TWRP. Boot into recovery, And click Wipe, Do a factory reset , Clear Devil cache, Then go back and install your Firmware(cm12.1 or cm13 for your intended model). And flash Gapps as well. Then reboot. And you are done.
I have tried TWRP for both i9190 and i9192 model. and installed custom roms. Work fine.

I went for it with the original links and it worked. (eventually) A bit of user error on my part missing recovery mode on reboot first time and thinking it was done when it wasn't. Only putting the first bit in (root kit v2) then not realising how to flash the next parts. A bit of persistence paid off.
I have a I9195 model and rooting with that clockwork worked then loading the CM13 and then the Gapps. All one after the other in one go finally worked for me! so so far so good, just getting used to Android 6 now I think everything is working though, not put my sim in yet. will do that tomorrow.
If anyone was to follow what I did the big tip I would say is copy everything onto the SD card before you start anything, not as I did at first just putting the first bit on then thinking I can copy the next bit on later . . .

No longer able to boot my Note 2 into recovery mode

1. I started with fully working Samsung Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100 (Rooted)
2. I'm a newbie to flashing ROM, and read numerous articles to build awareness (and have never used a forum before - so please be gentle!)
3. Installed ClockworkMod Recovery using "ROM Manager"
4. Flashed Slim6 (Slim-6.0.1.alpha.0.1-UNOFFICIAL-20160522-1030) ROM, then Gapps, then re-booted and all OK (Note2 seemed to work fine)
5. Kernel is now3.0.101-Haxynox
6. Spotted (and surprised) that Note 2 no longer rooted (and in particular, want to use Titanium Backup)
7. So, flashed CWM6-root-note2.tar using ODIN, resulting in "Pass"
8. Note2 still not Rooted, and suspect that I should have flashed SuperSu after Slim6 ROM and before Gapps
9. So, tried to reboot to ClockworkMod reccovery using "ROM Manager" but hangs. Tried using VOL+ and HOME and POWER (many times, and for different intervals) but see Samsung logo followed by some "stripes" on the screen (rather like the horizontal hold needs to be adjusted for those that are old enough to remember such things!), but it will not boot into recovery mode.
10. In addition, Odin no longer appears to see the Note2
11. Note2 will boot conventionally, but I'm extremely keen not to have to live without rooting and flashing capability
12. I've searched hard for hints for this particular issue, but would really appreciate some advice, at least so that I don't make my beautiful Note2 any worse (and hope I've not missed any posts that I should have spotted!).
13. Please let me know if I've missed any key information.

Flash the tar version of TWRP for your phone using Odin. You can root by flashing supersu from TWRP.
CWM is very outdated and cannot be used to flash current custom ROMSs.

Many thanks, I've moved over to TWRP and it seems much better.
I also tried to find a more "suitable" (reliable) ROM and chose Resolution Remix, especially as services kept stopping on Slim6.
So now I can get to recovery mode, but still I have issues. Mainly...
a) I've so far failed to flash a compatible Gapps file
b) I've flashed supersu and busybox (Root_SuperSU.0.98-Busybox.1.20.2-signed.zip) but root is still not available. Sometimes I see a "Grant" prompt but it hangs for ages when I grant. The SuperSU app can be seen, but is not responsive. Titanium Backup responds eventually to confirm that Root is not available.
c) Downloading from the Playstore is problematic (sometime very slow to download, usually extremely slow to install - go for a walk type of slow!)
d) Typically the pre-installed applications "stop" shortly/immediately after trying to start them (for example, "Browser", "Clock",...), but then appear after "OK"ing the Close infor box
e) Is my choice of ROM reasonable? And/or is there a ROM which has ROOT "baked in"? (Or, should I go back to JellyBean as being more suitable for a Note2?)
f) Is there some "fine tuning" to the flash process that I need to learn about?
Any hints/tips would be welcome, and many thanks for your initial suggestion to move to TWRP

Is the ROM pre-rooted? If yes, don't flash supersu.
You performed a full wipe, including data, before flashing the ROM?
Phone is running these latest bootloader and modem?

a) Yes, I believe I had done a full wipe before flashing, but haven't touched bootloader and modem so they may well be "old"
b) More reading suggests that Cyanogenmod 13 is a very popular ROM, so flashed this with TWRP
c) Found that with this ROM there were no issues when flahsing openGapps
d) Eventually discovered/realised that CM13 is pre-rooted (but has to be enabled in Settings) and that flashing supersu was causing problems
So, with the benefit of hindsight, if I'd used TWRP/CM13/OpenGapps without flashing supersu, it would have been straightforward! I've certainly learned a lot and you supporting questions have led me to what seems to be a nice, stable implementation of Marshmallow - thanks again.
I'm still looking for a quick/easy way to take a screenshot (just used a palm-swipe before), and a free "real" FM radio, but pretty much everything else works.

Last time I looked, which was a while ago, there was no custom AOSP or CM rom that supported radio functions. If you want the FM radio, look into custom ROMs based on a stock Samsung kernel.

Clean ROOT ready to install ROMS REDMI NOTE 8 PRO [GLOBAL] ONLY Guide

So I've read enough posts to get this first - GLOBAL ONLY I got my phone on Amazon its a global unlocked NOTE8PRO. Any of you with something else like China or India try this method and brick your phone don't cry to me over it. After trial and error, bricking my device and paying some guy in Spain 30EUR to unbrick it (thanks brother you rock) I thought I'd share my final experience and how you can get your GLOBAL RN8P to a stable place to install the ROMS available at this time. I will include at the end my thoughts on the 2 ROMS I installed and used over the past week. Honestly if you're on a global version I'm not sure it's worth it although as I type this I kinda want to flash Pixel Experience again, I really liked it. But more on that later. I compiled this guide from sources here, if I don't give you credit I apologize in advance please just let me know.
First let's make sure we don't brick this mofo.
Hit the MEGA thread if you haven't read it then you shouldn't be flashing your phone, and do this from a clean install of MIUI-V11.0.6.0PGGMIXM and do yourself a favor and get it from Xiaomi or a reliable source, not everyone on here has good intentions. There are some "official" ROMS out there that have been played with and will break your phone.
1. Do it how you want I did this from fastboot. Dump the official MIUI global ROM in a folder, and (I'm on linux box so adjust yourself if you're sadly using Windows) I executed this command from FASTBOOT in the MIUI ROM folder with ADB and FASTBOOT installed for my system.
./flash_all.sh (I think its flash_all.bat for Windows)
This going to wipe your stuff out, have it backed up. I'm dedicated to Google and GDRIVE I don't care I get everything back when I wipe including sms and phone records etc, but to each his own.
It's going to wipe and restore to factory image on that ROM version and you're going to go throught setup again, tedious (I say that having done it 4 times this week) but none the less it is what it is. After you are up and running on that ROM version keeping in mind if you're going to flash a new ROM like PE then don't set it up all the way because you're going to do it all over again anyways move to the next step.
2. From the MEGA thread flash this and reboot. Read the thread download the files and do what Agent_fabulous (awesome guy btw) says. Reboot. Make sure you can reboot to SYSTEM and all is well, don't worry about recovery or bootloader yet.

3. OK kids we're almost there, now you need to install TWRP and there are MANY versions floating around. Honestly the official version sucks IMHO. go to this thread and download TWRP and do exactly what it says in the thread. Assuming you're device is unlocked already and if its not then come back later follow EXACTLY steps 2 and 3. From there you will update MAGISK after the reboot and be fully rooted and pass SaftyNet checks.
You are stable and rooted. All you do next is enjoy your rooted device and or install a custom ROM. If you do install a custom ROM - READ READ READ and FOLLOW directions I hate to add to the confusuion but there are so many threads on this phone (becasue it sucks to MOD it) and it's frustrating because all of it assumes you know everything or they just don't give you all the steps and you end up bricking your phone. I have never by the way rooted or flashed a phone in my life before this one.
At this time all the custom ROMS need to be flashed after flashing the Indian Vendor image, this is in fact the only way I know and it worked for me everytime. So at this point if you're flashing a new ROM first flash the India Vendor image then flash the new from all from TWRP. But in my experience just follow what it says because Agent_fabulous and friends may crack this tomorrow and it won't be the same. What I am giving you is a VERY stable platform to start flashing ROMS from or just to be rooted and happy. As an FYI from this you can install RIRU and EdXposed if you want to do that, I wasn't impressed other than dark mode in GMail on A9 and ad-blocking in YouTube, I get the ads in YouTube but Google no dark mode in GMail on A9? WTF??

Given how aggressive the battery optimizer is on stock, I doubt you'll get more juice out of it.

It's fine to flash ROMs I felt PE was way faster the audio was better over Bluetooth and it was pretty stable. Battery improvement was negligible.

@dcindallas glad you had such a nice experience. have you tried flashing miui 12 on it? seems there are some beta versions for it. seems to bring a lot of eye candy, privacy and performance fixes. give it a go.

I've not flashed anything but custom ROMS I had to wipe go back to A9 stock ROM due to Pixel Experience dropping wifi constantly.

Well, I appreciate all the effort going into this thread and this device. Thru all the reading I've done on this simple project with different advice, it almost seems there's too much info on it. Anyway, I'm having a dickens of a time with it, just getting it to load up TWRP! I thought I followed all the directions.. y'know... hold this button, dont hold this one, release this one, then repress that one... but I got a bootloop just from flashing TWRP. I had to re-flash the whole MIUI (an older one even) with Mi Flash, the only one I could find that had a flash-all script in it.
I'm a little gun shy, but I'd sure like to give it a go again.
I flashed twrp-3.3.1-0-begonia.img, then rebooted. Any advice why I bootlooped? Was it the TWRP version or did I mess up the button press?
