I'd like to start by saying that I have been able to root and install custom roms as well as trouble shoot all of my problems (hard and soft bricks) through simply searching this forum's extensive database of information. Everyone here has done a great job of providing valuable and useful information. Through my years of lurking, I have never had to post because the answer was always found somewhere however, I cannot for the life of me figure this one out.
I am trying to use a custom notification sounds and ringtones (specifically the old BlackBerry notification sounds that I have extracted from an old Berry, and some other custom ringtone that I downloaded) by placing it in the following directory "system/media/audio/notifications" and "system/media/audio/ringtones" respectively. This item shows up when I go to "settings > sounds" and open the notifications/ringtones menu but the sound that is played is EXACTLY the same sound as "Castor.ogg"; one of the default notification sounds. I extracted other Blackberry notification sounds, downloaded other notification sounds/ringtones, made my own notification sounds/ringtones, changed the extensions from ".mp3" to ".ogg", converted some music from my library to a ringtone, but every single one of these ALWAYS plays "Castor.ogg". This is driving me up the wall!!
Can anyone try this and tell me if they are having the same problem?
TL;DR Can't use custom ringtones/notification sounds because "Castors.ogg" keeps being played instead.
Edit: I tried setting a ringtone through Apollo (hold down on the file, select "set as ringtone" but when the phone rings, it just plays "Castor.ogg".
Edit 2: I moved a ringtone file to my external SD Card and applied the ringtone through Apollo and it works but it only plays the ringtone ONCE.

Can someone confirm these regarding WM6?

Problem #1
Tapping the Start Menu does not product any clicking sound (unlike WM5 and WM 2003SE). While the Start Menu is displayed, clicking any item in it also does not product any clicking sound. Is this the correct behaviour? Anyway, I found the MenuPop.wav in Windoes folder.
Problem #2
The Alarm1, Alarm2, Alarm3, Alarm4, Alarm5 comes in different format where Alarm1, Alarm3 and Alarm4 are in WMA while Alarm2 and Alarm5 are in WAV. Weird huh?
Thanks in advance to anyone who replied.

Problem #1 -- Correct. To change that, go to Start > Settings > Sounds and Notifications and Enable Sounds for Screen Taps.
Problem #2 -- On the X-plore 1.1 WM6 ROM, Alarm 1, Alarm 3, and Alarm 4 are in WMA format and Alarm 2 and Alarm 5 are in WAV format.

Thanks for the confirmation. I thought I'm getting an incomplete ROM upgrade from O2.
Anyway, for problem #1, seems like WM6 is kinda incomplete, doesn't it? For problem #2, yours are correct, I mistyped mine.
Thanks.

Sound folders in WM6

Where are the sounds (for rintones, alarms, etc.) stored on a WM6 device?
I want to change the alarm sound on my phone and I don't like the built-in list of alarm sounds and want to add my own.
So, two questions:
1. where are the alarm sounds stored?
and
2. what format can you use for alarm sounds?
BTW I want to change my alarm to sound like a standard telephone ring so that I can set it to go off in the middle of meetings to pretend that someone is calling me to let me escape these ****ing wastes of time. It never fails.
In windows folder you will find another folder its name is Rings you can add your fav. files by copy and paste method then if u would like to change tones, you can do that by settings-> Personal -> Phone
oh I forgot!!!!
.wmv .mp3 .... are usually used format
I think for the alarm sounds, you're restricted to just wav (maybe wma but i've not confirmed that) but they have to be in the windows folder, not the rings as stated above.
Cheers,
Smiffy.
you are right Lordsmiff!!!
I am so sorry
I do not know why I chose tones option for alarm

To add further, alarm and notification tones are restricted to WAV format.
Put then in \windows\ folder.

Thanks for clarifying this.
Does anyone have any good WAV "alarms" that sound like telephone calls (ringtones)?
Cheers.
Bobby
Does anyone know the location of or the name, of the sound files for 'sms sent' and 'delete confirmation', please?
There is no option to change these in Settings>Sounds & Notifications. The files don't appear to be located in the Windows folder either...
Anyone please help?
I'm just getting to grips with my new WM6 device

Custom Sounds on HTC Touch Pro2???

Is there a way to customize startup sounds or error sounds? I would like to change the sound of those, but can't seem to figure out how. Anyone help with that??
- Just copy any wma, mp3 or wav format file(s) into /windows/ directory.
- Select Settings/Sound/Advanced/Notifications
- Pick the Event you want and select the Ring tone from the drop-down menu
Enjoy~
Thats for the regular sounds....I am looking for a way to customize the STARTUP sound like when you turn the phone on and off and the error sounds. I appreciate the help but I am aware of how to change the regular sounds....just not sure if there is a way to change the start and error.

Jeez, i dont understand why they make it so complicated! Even WM 5.0 Smartphone edition was more fluent. I didnt have to move sound files all over the dam place just for specific events. Why in the hell cant it just let you Point to a file instead of stupidly being locked into one directly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is their a way to somehow change What directory its pointing to at least?
Guess i could just delete all the default sounds and put my own in their (if it will let me delete them)
Any Ideas? is their a way to have the sounds point to a custom location?
Again.. Can you change the pointed directory for event sounds out of the windows directory?
I've been lookin for the answer to this since my sprint mogul
I could be wrong but it sounds like you may need to look at flashing a custom splash screen. You can attach custom sounds to the splash screen to be whatever you want. I'm not to sure about the error sounds. I would assume you can associate an event to a sound file and call it a day.

Sound profiles (not volume levels)

I want to be able to change the sounds for the incoming call, new text message, ect, with a clicks or two...
I have spb phone suite and it allows me to set up profiles to adjust volume levels, but i want an easy way to change the actual sounds.
I want the phone set to a certain group of sounds during the day, and then at night change to a different set of sounds.
Any suggestions on how to get this done without a ton of work or where an app is at that does this?
Again, i dont need to adjust sound levels, but the sounds themselves...
Bringing this back to the top.

I have used Phonealarm for years. It is almost too customizable, but it will change volumes, tones, vibrate patterns, light the LED, and more. Its a Today plug-in but there also a couple of ways to integrate with TF3D.
There's a trial on www.pocketmax.net and I think it will do what you want.
+1 on PhoneAlarm, although I have not tried it on the Tilt 2 yet.
Sweet, thank you.
Im installing this as I type!
Phonealarm doesnt allow you to specify anything more then then ringtone.
You cant specify the sms or mms tones in the profiles...

Au contraire mon frere, with PA 2.2 you can setup custom email/SMS alarms base on subject/sender. I have not tried it yet, but it should work.
Wait, you just one per profile? That is definitely in there.
does PA allow me also to have a specific ringtone played according to the content of received sms'? I mean, having a standard ringtone (for every sms), and a secondary one only for sms that contain the word "emergency"?
thank you

Subject or Sender. Not body. (Do SMS messages have a subject?) I don't get SMS messages (only MMS), so I have not tested it. It's got a 15 day trial, so take it for a spin.
Does this allow you to point to sound files for ring tones or do you still have to dump them all in the messy windows directory? Does this include open close? (keyboard) sounds?
I want the ability to quickly change the phone/sms/mms sounds all at once.
PA does not do this that i could figure out.
If im wrong please help me figure it out, i would be greatful.
Also, if its not any easier then navigating to the default "sounds and notifications" settings then it does no good for me.
Optimally i would like an icon in my apps to click on, and then 1 more click to change sounds.
If I understand what you're asking for, this functionality was included in 6.1 (at least on my Blackjack II and Dash/Excalibur).
I was able to navigate to start > settings > profiles, then have 4 or 5 customizable profiles to choose from. I'd typically use a "silent" profile for situations like sitting in a movie theater, "normal" for everyday use, and "outdoor" or "loud" with everything at full volume.
These profiles were selected either from the profiles menu or by quickly pressing the power button (which puts my Tilt2 to sleep) and selecting the profile I wanted to use.
This is an extremely useful feature. I've looked all over and it appears that it isn't included in Windows Mobile 6.5 which is very surprising.
It looks like there are some 3rd party apps that might do this. This one looks to be the most promising and has a 14 day trial: http://www.penreader.com/windows-mobile-software/Handy_Assistant.html
Edit: This one looks like it might work too - though a little dated: http://www.jgui.net/phoneprofiles/index.html

Can you add touch sounds?

I am curious if there is a way to add touch sounds to the system ui media file (system/media/audio/ui). I know how to add and change/replace alarms, ringtones, and notifications. And I know how to change/replace the touch ui sounds. What I want to figure out, is how to add ui sounds. I want to have a sound for whenever apps open. There will be the default touch sound, plus an additional one (like a warble or trill or whatever you want) as the app is opening. In all of my searching, i've yet to find anything on this. Thanks for any help!
EDIT:
sorry if this is in the wrong area. It's a question, but it's theme related so I figured this was the place to post. If not, i'm sure the mods will move it
i think you are answering your own question... or i dont get it
but u are on the right track
make a sound with .ogg extension and copy it to ui thats it
