[Q] FLAC audio files - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody.
Someone of you did know why not every FLAC files are playable with walkman?
Every files are made by EAC with same settings but for two albums it say *Unable to play this file*
it's a little bit strange, didn't is?
I'm comparing the two files. could be the bitrate? is the only thing that changes..

Well... I think the problem could be the bitrate or the dac converter of the phone which works in "native" mode with walkmam app, but with poweramp use the software render, not native instruction.
Sorry for my bad english

poweramp play everyone of these files...
File n.1 - playable on walkman app
Bitrate: 833 Kbps
sample rate: 44Khz
File n.2 - not playable on walkman app
Bitrate: 664 Kbps
sample rate: 44Khz

change flac audio bitrate
You can use Avdshare Video Downloader to Change audio bitrate and then convert FLAC to other audio formats, like to AAC, OGG, MP3, WAV, AIFF, M4A, AC3, etc.

It could be to do with the encoding method - there is more than one implementation of the FLAC encoder.
Did you get these files from different sources / use different methods to encode them?

Converting Video for s620

I use Coreplayer but every movie i have encoded has a glitch when being played @ about 15 sec intervals, have lowered the bitrate to 100 and the screen res 320x240 am encoding into mp4, have increased the buffer in Coreplayer from .5mb to 1mb still no improvement.
If i change the quality to medium in Coreplayer this does not happen but the quality is too low to watch.
Any ideas?

Will give it a try thank you.
if all fails, give mediacoder a try. http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/
u can try these settings...
video - format: XviD, mode: 1-pass (same as "Quality" option),
container: MP4, bitrate: 96kbps, res: 320x240, frame rate: 20fps.
audio - AAC @ 56kbps

Anyone recommend a decent media player

Greets - I am looking for a decent MP3 and Video player in 1 app. Currently I am using Meridian, but the authors refusal to fix the bug where if you update ID3 or Album art, it not only refuses to note the changes, but then starts showing different MP3's album covers.
I have no requirements other than it needs to play Video and MP3's and NOT suffer from this bug.
Any thoughts?
I used double twist all the time.
Any other suggestions
Thanks but the VERY FIRST review on the list says it suffers from the same problem I am trying to escape. Meridian would be VERY GOOD if the author bothered to fix the same bug.
Any other suggestions are appreciated.
DoubleTwist!!!! You need no other.
Well, that and Slacker radio for internet tunes. Now f only I could use my Zune Pass on the Android...

Well then try Mix Zing, it's in the marketplace. I would compare it to core player on WinMo... Have to pay to properly edit ID3 tags but it has some great features if you do.
I have not used it for video and don't even know if it is able.... but the basic player on the HTC is fine for videos that I play.
If doubletwist could read the internal storage,I'd use it. I have 6gbs of tunes and it finds the 2 i have on my sd card...lame
I use cubed because it has a cool interface and a variety of widgets. The real name in the market is ³.

For some reason Double twist doesnt read all of my music. it maybe reads 2 out of 14gb
Ugh
Doubletwist seems like a really bad idea, but it seems the answer to my question is THERE IS NONE. Let's home some developer can step up, make a player that can process updated ID3 and Album art, without getting all confused.
If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them

I use doubletwist and all my songs have correct ID3 tags and album art.
I use separate programs to grab all the album art and ID3 tags.. but doubletwist doesn't scramble them or mix them up.

Best Video format?

I want to convert some of my movies on the hard drive of my PC to a format I can play on my EVO.
I just tried converting Jennifers Body to 3GP at 512 kbps and 29.9 fps and it plays but the sound is really quite and it's a little jerky.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Any guides? Or can someone tell me the best settings for audio and video to play on EVO hardware?
Thanks. I'm looking for stuff like format, 3GP vs. MPEG4, resolution, bit rate, fps, kpbs, and audio format as well.
Anyone had some good looking doing this?
Steve.
Container: MP4
Video: h264 baseline profile, 800x480 max, between 500Kpbs and 2Mbps depending on source (anime vs. movie) and amount of action/movement. Keep fps same as original. I usually set my x264 to encode with quantizer set to 20, fast and does the job.
Audio: AAC. Anyhing above 128Kbps wil be good enough.
I use MeGUI for my conversions but u can try Handbrake too.

mVideoPlayer using embedded media player. result is same as stock player
=> Video is good. NO Audio.
wouldn't it be easier to just re-encode the audio stream to a common format instead of dts ?
a direct video copy and an audio conversion for a whole movie would only take a couple mins max meaning you could use the hardware accelerated native player.
Ok, thnx for testing..

DTS is a common format. Many files are DTS so its reasonable to want to play them unconverted. Dice player seems to be the one.

yes while DTS is common for bluray rips (i myself rip bluray with DTS audio) DTS audio comes with a rather large file size and considering the limited storage space on devices like phones using DTS seems like overkill.
but yes i do understand your point, but imo a better alternative would be to just reconvert the audio as many alternative players use software decoding which significantly impacts battery life vs hardware decoding.

DicePlayer take advantage of hw decoder. don't worry about battery life.
*edit
Diceplayer take 22~39% of CPU usage. ( playing above kill bill sample 1080p clip )
Stock Player take 20~40% of CPU usage. ( NO AUDIO Decoding )
Dice Player is pretty awesome. I had some clips the stock player didn't play. moboplayer did play them in software playback, but this seems to do the playback more smoothly than moboplayer software playback.

DTS is not needed on a mobile device.....so if you want to watch a full movie on sgs2 you should convert the dts to ac3 with eac3to to save some considerbly big size of the file....then you would hace a hd video with good audio at acceptable size...i think the max video size played on our sgs2 is 4gb....have a nice day!
Been looking for this post ... I hope might this post comes handy to me

[Q] 720p video playback issue

Hello,
I'm having some problems about playing 720p videos from HTC Desire Z. It plays some 720p videos smoothly which are recorded by itself (also there is a fps problem in there, some are about 19fps).
I wonder which {container, codec} we should use to play 720p videos smooth. I tried with several media players like Vplayer, Moboplayer, Rockplayer and Android's default media player.
I tried some files. Here their properties:
Container: MKV
Video Codec: H264
Audio Codec: AC3
Overall Bitrate: ~4.5Mbps
Length: 71min
Size: 2.2GB
This was a concert video.
--
Container: MKV
Video Codec: H264
Audio Codec: AC3
Overall Bitrate: ~4.5Mbps
Length: 40min
Size: 1.1GB
This was a tv show.
Rockplayer can play this videos but not smooth enough. It freezes for 5-10 milliseconds at every 1-2 seconds.
Using stock 2.3.3 ROM and stock SD Card.
Phone can play 480p videos smoothly but I think it can play 720p videos since it can record 720p videos.
Thanks in advance.
The DZ isn't actually powerful enough to play 720p videos from an external source. I can barely play 480p AVI smoothly. MKV and MP4 are a total lost cause for me. Haven't tried after I installed Virtuous 2.0 and had it OC'd to 1.5GHz though.

As far as I know, DZ has hardware decoding for 720p videos. So it can play 720p videos and DZ records with 8mbps and encodes with h264 and its container is 3gp. Only difference is container. Maybe changing container will fix this but I tried with avi, mkv. Maybe I should try with 3gp container.
Anyone tried?

Tried with its trial version but it says "sorry, this video can not be played" when i try to play video which I mentioned at my first post (tv show one) and also another video which is a mp4 video.
DicePlayer can not play any video in the phone
I use Rock Player Lite and it can play MP4 vids properly. Granted, I just OC'd my DZ to 1.5GHz, and an MP4 file encoded in h.264 with an average bitrate of 1.5kbps plays flawlessly. At stock speeds the audio goes out of sync and artefacts get introduced. Haven't tried MKV files since I OC'd yet though. Software decoding in RPL.
Hardware decode basically is the same as the default media player, software decoding takes up more CPU resources, but is able to play more formats and containers.
I haven't found any way to reliably open mkv container on desire z. MX video player by far does the best job (and yes, I've used other players like rockplayer, dice player, etc) but it still plays 720p mkv h264 slightly choppy. 720p h264 mp4 plays fine with software and hardware decoder, while 720 avi xvid can play smoothly on a small overclock.
I try to avoid 720 anyway because the difference between 720 and 480 on a 3.7inch screen is barely visible to me lol
Exactly lol. As long as it can play 480 on the DZ it's more than fine by me. 720p on a 480x800 screen... ~_~
MX Video Player.. Never heard of it. Gonna search and try that out. How does it compare to Rock Player?
i really liked rockplayer for a long time until i found out mx player had software codecs tweaked for ARMv7. Check it out on the market, its free anyway lol
I tried mx player but still there is the same problem.
I also tried to change the container to mp4. PC plays well but when I try to play on phone, video is smooth but there is no sound and audio codec is ac3. Maybe the problem is here.
I tried with rockplayer using software decoding, there is sound but laggy video.
Try MX with SW. Works fine on any container and format so far for me.

Tried in 3 available mode in MX Player but still laggy video
The trick is to use video in the correct settings for the hardware decoder. If you do that then it won't matter if it's in mkv or mp4.
For the video portion, use baseline profile h.264 with the maximum bitrate (VBV) capped at 8mbps up to 720p
For audio, use AAC-LC in stereo.

I think so. But there is a problem when playing MKV files. There is problem after I changed container to mp4, though.
But the audio codecs of videos which I tried are not AAC. Maybe this causes the problem.
I don't know, how hard can it be to play videos which have AAC audios.
Use Handbrake to encode and it'll be easy to specify AAC for audio. You can use the iphone profile for encoding.
Hi again,
I've solved my problem. I use dice player which plays 720p mkv videos (even with ac3 audio codec).
I wrote here dice player can't play any video in the phone. That was a hardware decoding problem, I think. When I try to play an unsupported video format with hardware decoding, hardware decoding crashes and unable to play videos as it should be.
So, after that if I restart the phone hardware decoding comes back and plays videos perfectly.
Is this a common issue? If it is not should I do a factory reset to my phone?
To be honest, with our default 800*480 screen, we would not be able to take advantage of 720p quality as 720p is 1280*720 (Unless we stream it to a HDTV or Monitor). Re-encoding it to 800*450 is wiser to conserve file size as well
found this recommended settings at afterdawn for Handbrake or MEGUI. Tried it with rockplayer hardware decoding and it is smooth i used mp4 format
