HTC M8 not available on T-Mobile - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Wow... I don't know what to say. It would appear that T-Mobile is not carrying the M8 at this time unless HTC screwed up on their site:

If T-Mobile doesn't get this phone, its going to seriously hurt both companies. I really hope this is just an oversight...
EDIT: Its true. Not til some time in April.

I guess T-Mobile is pushing the S5 so much that they are purposely crippling the M8 sales. Bad move. I'm tempted to pay off my EIP and switch carriers.

give it time. the m8 is up on best buy and Verizon but the links don't work yet

T-Mobile already confirmed that they won't have it until April, I put a link to a Tmonews story in my post: http://www.tmonews.com/2014/03/t-mobile-to-sell-htc-one-m8-online-and-in-stores-from-next-month/
T-Mobile said it in a press release. *sigh*
Considering that Sprint is getting it (and already has it on their site for order), I'm beyond pissed at T-Mobile for this and if they didn't have excellent coverage in Denver, I'd pay off my EIP and leave over it.
I guess the good news is that by the time T-Mobile customers can buy it, we'll know what issues it has and hopefully have S-OFF. I guess there is a silver lining by not being a launch day customer but still, I've been JUMP eligible since January 27th so I'm getting anxious...

It's a place to start. Thanks.

Yeah, this is really disappointing. I was a little hesitant on the M8 based on my frustration with the camera on the M7. But with the recent photos and hype around the announcement, I was all set to go pick one up today. At this point though, I'll probably wait until the announcement of the OnePlus One on 4/23 to see exactly what that phone has to offer before I make a decision.

yeah its up now on best buy but says coming soon. No T mobile though. Just Sprint, Verizon and AT&T

The links for Best Buy are up... But it's only AT&T, Sprint and Verizon Wireless... I can't see any unlocked version for a T-Mobile customer.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/promo/htc-one-m8-119534

Best Buy doesn't sell T-Mobile phones so the gold is forever going to be off limits to T-Mobile customers unless they buy an at&t and unlock it.
I'm getting more and more bent about this the more I think about it. I can't believe that T-Mobile chose to do Samsung's bidding considering how long HTC and T-Mobile have been partners... G1, the MyTouch series... I mean really T-Mo?
What's the OnePlus? I've not heard anything about that.

Yep! The #HTCOne is coming to @Tmobile. Stay tuned for more details!

The OnePlus One is a device being built by a bunch of former Oppo engineers. There haven't been any images leaked but the specs sound pretty good (5.5 inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 801 processor, 3100mah battery, 13mp camera, etc). It will be running Cyanogenmod stock and is supposed to come in under $500.
I'm due for an upgrade through Jump as well, but T-Mobile's delay on getting the One will certainly give me more time to consider other options. Probably not good for HTC.

Sure...but why not available as other carriers. The way they are pushing GS5 looks like they did this on purpose and screwing customers.

Looks good but hopefully it has LTE and T-Mobile bands. I just noticed that Oppo's new Find 7 finally has LTE so Oppo devices are now back on the table for consideration.
My big thing is warranty... If something breaks on a phone I buy from T-Mobile, I call them, they send me a replacement and I send them the broken device, they handle the warranty claim. If I physically break my device, Asurion takes care of it. I don't know I want to leave that comfortable system.

I certainly understand that. The T-Mo warranty program is hard to beat - I've had to use it a couple of times myself. It's another reason I wouldn't consider another provider. Just wish T-Mo was getting the M8 today like the other major players here in the US.

Update from T-Mobile is that it will release on April 11th. I'd prefer to have this phone subsidized, but this is how T-Mob is doing business these days, at $0 down.

That delay will allow us to see if there are any problems with the M8. I heard the pictures are better than the M7 and that after a week of testing, the M8 apparently doesn't overheat (which caused the tint problem in cameras) due the 801 cpu. Until I can try it at t-mobile, I'm gonna keep reading up on stories on it. Don't know about theOne Plus though, I should look into it.

The VZW variant works with T-Mobile. There is a YouTube in the Verizon M8 thread that shows a guy pop out his VZW sim and exchange it for a T-Mobile version. Works. LTE and all.

Would you give up your EVO for the Iphone?

I have this buddy that took his EVO with a broken charge port in to Sprint yesterday. He already had one with a blown speaker and Sprint made him pay the $100 deductible and gave him a refurb. They would not fix or replace his phone under warranty for some reason and tried to make him pay another $100 deductible to replace a completely unusable phone. I work with the guy and told him I would bring in a battery charger for him to use until he got Sprint to fix it and when I went to give it to him this morning he said that when he was told he would have to pay a $100 deductible he terminated his contract on the spot, paid the ETF and went to Verizon and got the Iphone 4.
I personally would not have gotten the Iphone, but he is happy with it. He doesn't know much about phones and I rooted has Evo for him and put CM7 on it. He was really liking CM7 but Sprint pushed him over the edge. I have had some bad experiences with Sprint customer service, but it was never bad enough to pay the ETF and go elsewhere. All carriers have their problems. There is a local company here called Cincinnati Bell and honestly it is the only carrier that I have heard all good things about, but they don't discount their phones like the big companies do and they are quite expensive for a smartphone. Anyway, enough with my ramble.
Would you give up your EVO for the Iphone4?
I would have waited and tried to get kicked off Sprint by using a lot of data and by then maybe the Iphone 5 would be out, or some cool new Android phone. I think he was fed up with Android too though. This guy is a computer wiz, but when it comes to phone he is in the dark, so the Iphone is probably good for him, because of its simplicity.
I broke my contract with AT&T to get the EVO.. I have no regrets.. i probably wouldn't get another iphone because i enjoy the freedom!
In one clear concise word: No.
I enjoy my freedom, customization, and the ability to pull my battery when I please.

lol That's why. Warranty is voided once you root it.
To answer your question: No, I would not trade my Evo for an iPhone. I especially wouldn't pay a $200 ETF, then go buy another phone because of something that is my fault when a $100 deductible would have fixed my problem. I think you should have better informed your friend about what he getting into when you rooted his phone. Too late now, I guess.
You probably should have unrooted it when turning it back in... (you'll see why)
Honestly, I have absolutely no complaints with Sprint customer service. In fact, they're fantastic. They are VERY kind and not hesitant to get me a new phone when it's needed (I went through like 4 razors..and only paid for the first). On that line, if you give them a Rooted phone and say "help" they will still probably help you (and I know from experience they have). But, if they send in a rooted phone/phone that's voided its warranty for a fix or replacement they have to pay for it out of their pocket. That's why he wouldn't replace it for free, because it would have cost him money. Trust me, the Sprint Rep was not being a d-bag, he was trying to keep his job and not pay a fine for doing something dumb. Most of them don't care that you're rooted...promise.

Sir...we're in a recession, so the ratio is clearly 1 to 7.
I WILL switch if Sprint doesn't bring 4G to my area and 3G doesn't get better.
I'm always playing with peoples iphones trying various things and I have to say .. visually.. there is no comparison.. with the mod options alone it's a hell no.. plus i can put their cute little iphone inside my screen as if it swallow it whole.. Sprint customer service is as spotty as anywhere else though. One person wouldn't work with me.. called back and the lady would of did anything to save me as a customer. She even gave me $100 credit instead of waiting for the $100 rebate. It was awesome. I'm with sprint for the long hall unless something drastic changes
In a word..

Ask this question in the iPhone forums and see what answer you get.
The people who have Evo(or Android for that matter) have them for a reason. Before I got the Evo I went back and forth between phones, service providers and plan costs. I actually switched to Sprint from T-Mobile because the Spring plans were untouchable. I probably would have went with the iPhone if they had better prices and their data didn't have a cap(even though I knew I would probably never go over).
I am truly happy that I got the Evo because I get to do so much with it. I normally keep phones for two years and then switch. As long as the Evo makes it to a point where 4g is working on a rom I will probably use this phone until it crumbles in my hand. At that point I will pay the $100 insurance fee and get a brand new phone.

I'm pretty sure that those would go together. If you know about computers then you know about apple's overpriced and over-simplified products. I kind of understand why he was pissed and canceled and went over to VZ BUT it does not justify getting the derphone especially if your friend knows a lot about computers.
I don't think your friend was really pissed at sprint.. your friend was waiting for a little push to get out of the closet and get the derphone.

Well to be honest I'm considering goin to vzw in april/may when the iphone 5 comes out or the htc thunderbolt (i actually do luv android more)if they dont limit the use of 4g. I keep hearing and seeing articles about how sprint may have messed up on using Wimax/Clearwire for 4g, and they might sign over to LTE. It is pissing me off because 3g is ok not better than my friends with VZW also I hate not being able to use my phone and data at the same time. I live in Detroit where I have no Idea when we are getting 4g. I love my Evo alot, but the lack of data connection and 4g makes me feel like i'm getting ripped off.
I;m very serious and I have the sero plan so I only pay 60 bucks a month.
Sorry I'm venting I know LOL
That means switching to Att and dealing with their HORRIBLE customer service, data caps, and spotty coverage, I pity him. I'm sure they didn't fix his phone because they saw he was rooted running cm7, that alone voids the warranty. You should have unrootedand then taken it in,I'm sure they would have fixed the phone no questions asked. Don't blame sprint for your mistakes. Oops! Every rom thread says running a custom immediately voids your warranty, you were warned.
I have no problem with Sprint. You can have a bad experience like that with any cell company.
And Verizon is no saint for sure, I have them for FIOS and they are sharks.
That said, I'd take an iPhone on Sprint any day over an Android.
As long as I could still Tether for Free even if that meant jail breaking iPhone. But my understanding Jail Breaking iPhones have more negatives than rooting Android phones. So that would be my only issue. iPhone isn't perfect either.
Sometimes I wonder if the insurance is worth it on Sprint where it's a bit of crap shoot in what you get back and it cost $100.00 for each use.
I like Apple but love Linux more so Android it is.
Doubtful. I have an iPod Touch and I think I would go nuts if that was my only phone. It would cost me a good deal more per month as well so I don't think I would trade for an iPhone.
Evo is actually the first phone in a while that I'm not itching to upgrade after my year is up. Might save my cash this summer and put it toward a tablet.

Well, this puts me in a bind... I signed up with AT&T on Oct. 5th (just before they reduced the return time to 14 days). Was hoping it would get released on or before Nov. 5th so I could exchange my current phone (minus the $35 restocking fee). Would preordering still make me eligible for the $299 price as long as I returned my current phone before Nov. 5th? Sounds to me like I might have to go phoneless for those 4 days...
Best bet is to always call support or see a store rep for accurate answers. And extra friendly can go a long way with the reps who get yelled at all day.

Can't believe AT&T is slower to release than T-Mobile. I had always looked at AT&T as being the big dog on the block, but it appears otherwise now.
I know we want to beat up AT&T because we don't like to wait for our new toys, but d*** they are being slow, and releasing after the smaller providers is just crazy. I sure wished the international was LTE because I would pay the difference and never look back.

I know T-Mobile is not going to have any accessories at launch. According to tmonews.com, and a leaked internal document that shows all of the accessories being sold for the Note II. The first accessories (Samsung branded included) are expected to arrive Nov. 7. It is my guess that AT&T could release the Note II the same time as Sprint and T-Mobile, but they don't want to release it without any accessories for fear of losing revenue by people seeking accessories elsewhere. Carriers count on revenue from accessories with an extremely high markup to make up for the big markdowns they take on phones, especially a phone as expensive as the Galaxy Note II. T-Mobile and Sprint have likely made a calculated decision to accept these losses in order to get a leg up on AT&T and Verizon. While people surely will not be moving in droves, it is likely to attract at least some impatient Verizon and AT&T customers to their networks and makes them look good for getting it first.
I've now gotten different answers from two reps on the Note II pre-order. Neither one knew the off-contract pricing, but one suggested that the Note II may not even be available for pre-order without a contract or upgrade. Any of you guys hear something similar? Is there any precedent on AT&T's part not allowing a new phone to be pre-ordered off-contract?
If I pre-order from At&T, will I have any trouble keeping my grandfathered "unlimited" data plan? If I do still go with the GNII, should I just take my chances with walking into a store on the 9th instead of pre-ordering?
I've received that answer from reps in the store before, (way back when I had my windows mobile phone in 2008); One of the smaller corporate stores refused to sell it to me out of contract. I said F them, and went to the flagship store in Houston, no problems checking out. I've never seen a restriction on off-contract phones, but then again, they are AT&T.

It's too much expensive now. And i know nothing about Korean LTE, will it work or not. But the good thing is that Korean G2 was getting updates faster than any other version of G2. I think it applies to G3 also.
It is waaay too expensive now, and there is a good chance that by the time they deliver, we can get branded versions here in the US.

While you're definitely right on the way too expensive, some sellers are advertising that they already have limited stock in hand and are ready to ship.
Some sellers even include Fedex, etc. so you could have it in your hands next week.
Does Korean version have 2 batteries and charging cradle? If yes, it theoreticaly saves you about 50-60$, even if you get it now on Ebay.
Here is the band information from one of the auctions for the different models:
2G Network
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network
WCDMZ 850 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network
400K : LTE Band 1, 3, 7, 8
400S : LTE Band 1, 3, 5
400L : LTE Band 1, 5,7
So I think that means a no go for LTE on AT&T. The other thing I was considering is going for a LG G Pro 2. Sure would like the bigger screen! Just wish I knew if/when it was getting the new interface. It looks great!

Some of the sellers "having them in stock" have not-so-stellar feedback - first.
They may have it and ship right away. Or they may not, and there is not much you can do.

and last, but not least, I need to make sure the phone is fully compatible w/my carrier, frequencies, LTE etc.

I appreciate your points, but I've imported numerous phones from eBay without issues: Note 1, 2, 3, Z Ultra, etc.
You do have to be careful about the seller, but there are a few with 99%+ feedback and there is PLENTY you can do if they don't deliver on their promises and you use PayPal. PayPal almost automatically finds in favor of the buyer, and these stores don't want bad feedback.
Your third point is spot on though! (Although I've found that 4g isn't really a NEED for me, it's just nice to have. YMMV.)

I have ordered from ebay many times, last one was my Sony Z Ultra, had no unpleasant surprises so far.
Yet I use ebay to get something for the cheaper price, not the other way around. 3/32 version is rumored to be $650 in the US.
As of ebay/paypal, you have to have the case. They give you the tracking number, the tracking number does not show up, you still have to wait and ebay/paypal will not help you. By the time you raise your case to the appropriate level and get your money back it "might" happen you can get G3 from the store the very same day Although I do think they will release it by the end of June, not before.
As of LTE, it is absolute must for me.
But if you are willing and ready, go ahead and tell us about your experience, hopefully positive.

Great minds think alike
I checked ebay myself couple of days ago, since I am already in love with G3, and decided against it.
My Ultra Z is "almost" new, I can use it for another month.
There won't be any warranty either, pretty sure

You could purchase a warranty through Square Trade if you buy the phone off of eBay.
If your gonna get one from EBay I can recommend superbbrands. He hasn't listed them yet but he already has them. I've ordered a black one.

S. Korea has different from the USA LTE FREQUENCIES.
So more than likely those Korean phones will not be capable of LTE connection in the US.

How do I know? I have one on hand in front of me

N900t for Straight Talk

I would like to buy Note 3 n900t unlocked version so as to use it with Straight Talk carrier (using AT&T towers) on LTE data speed.
Will it work?
Or perhaps I should buy n900a version? Unlocked? Or not unlocked is ok?
The main issue for me is to get LTE data speeds.
Thanks!

It will work on Straight Talk AT&T. Just make sure you get the Micro SIM card so it fits. All you'll have to do is input the correct APN info after you sign up for the service. I had to switch to Straight Talk after I got scammed on Swappa. The service in NYC is not so great. I actually decided that it wasn't worth it to pay $50 for what I was getting, so now I'm just using my Note 3 like a tablet.
I hope it their service is better for you/in your area.

Well, either (N900A/N900T) would work on Straight Talk. You will probably have an easier time finding an unlocked T-Mobile version though. And whatever you do, make sure you protect yourself. Plenty of people have been scammed when trying to buy unlocked Note 3s.

Really, I would have thought the way AT&T locks down their devices there would be less of them floating around.
I got scammed on Swappa. So did other people apparently (via Swappa and Craigslist). Basically I bought my T-Mobile Note 3 on Swappa from a person with a perfect rating who assured me that the phone was not on EIP/stolen. Turns out is was and he wasn't paying, so T-Mobile blocked it. Swappa and Paypal were useless in resolving the issue. You can read the thread here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2605960
Boy did I learn a valuable lesson. My last 6 phones were bought either on Ebay, Craigslist or Swappa. No more. My next phone is coming direct from T-Mobile or the manufacturer. It's not worth $100 in savings to deal with getting scammed.

Even if the seller on Ebay has good reviews, I would still be very cautious. The way these scams work. it can take weeks or months for the device to show up as being non-payment in the carrier's system (or the person can just wait to report it lost or stolen). I bought my Note 3 from Swappa in November and it wasn't blocked until late January. If you do some searching, you might find some threads that help you stay safe, and tell you how to reduce the risk of getting scammed when using Ebay, but for me the risk is too high now. Once you get burned, it just sucks balls and you never want it to happen again.

Yeah, I thought about it, and still might. But I will lose money if I sell now, so that's why I want to wait a bit until at least I can get my next phone. By the time i'm ready to sell it, the price won't be different than if it weren't blocked anyway. By September, when Samsung releases the next Note, all Note 3s will be selling for 350-400.

I just bought mine n900a for 475$.
But Note 4 would cost no less than 800-900$ I guess, especially in the beginning.
Got my N900T for $350 last week from a guy off Craigslist, only has some scuffs on the sides that you can't see with my case. I had to pay to carrier unlock mine since it was on 4.4.2 tw. Slapped carbon on it and it was running fine on hspa+. I've been on Straight talk for about a year now. Ordered an LTE Sim the other day and got free next day shipping. Literally took me five minutes to get LTE up and running. And it is beautiful.

Most of the time the scammers will wait for the dispute period to end with paypal, which is 45 days, and then leave you high and dry.
1. Buy direct from t-mobile if you can.
2. If you are buying from a local person/craigslist, meet at a T-mobile store and ask an agent to check that it is free and clear with no outstanding payments due. Most of the time if the person is not trustworthy they will not meet you at T-mobile.
If the phone is blocked no amount of begging or pleading will get T-mobile to unblock it. It has been tried over and over and they will not allow you to pay any unpaid balance. The only one who can do it is the scammer who is long gone at that point.

Hopefully the T-Mobile has an unlocked bootloader

I have had several HTC phones on T-Mobile, my last one was the HTC One M8, which was easily unlocked through the HTC dev website to unlock the bootloader, which made it easy them to Root and more importantly install TWRP for ROM's.
Any word if this will still be the case through T-Mobile ?

He is talking about the tmobile branded one you buy from the store. Tmobile has never blocked HTCdev in the past only Verizon has so I would say it is safe to assume that it can be. I would say that the same rules would apply as always that it will be probability be sim-locked that tmobile will give you the unlock code if you meet their requirements.
This is all because Samsung locked the bootloader for the S7/Edge. Everyone is all hurt and blame T-Mobile for it. T-Mobile is going as far to say if they can't get Samsung to unlock it they'll have people return their devices and get one that can be unlocked if the person chooses. That screams to me T-Mobile never locked it in the first place and devices will only be locked if the manufacturer locks it.

Either way you're paying for the device so why not just buy it outright? I guess smaller monthly payments are easier to swallow, but it still doesn't change the price of the device. I imagine people will be up in arms about a locked down bootloader if T-Mobile does indeed lock it, but the fact remains they could have ordered an unlocked one from the start and called it a day.
If they don't like the device, they can always return it, or sell it outright without having to pay the device off on an upgrade program just to have it unlocked for another carrier. For the budget conscious it would make more financial sense to purchase an unlocked device for resale purposes.

You said it yourself, it's the exact same price no matter what so $20-$30 a month for a lot of people makes more sense than $750 up front. And in 6 months something new will be out and we can trade that phone in and get the new phone and T-Mobile pays the remainder of the balance off which will be maybe $550 left after 6 months. And you don't have to find a buyer, pay sales fees if you use eBay or Swappa and you don't have to turn in the charger or anything the phone comes with.

T-Mobile charges a hefty price to upgrade every few months. I had them at one point and used the Jump program a few times. Just wasn't worth the hassle when instill had to pay hundreds of dollars to bring the balance down to trade it in. Assuming that one will pay 25 bucks a month with no money down on a $650 device; 6 months later they have only paid $150 toward the price of the device. In order to upgrade you have to pay over 60% of the device's initial value. You're still coming out of pocket a few hundred dollars. In essence you lost money because you reset your time to pay for a new device and lost hundreds in the process.
I see the appeal, I truly do, but it's just not financially prudent to do that when you can own the device outright, sell it and recoup a good portion of your money in the process.
But that's not even the main point I was trying to make LOL. The main point is that buying an unlocked devices guarantees an unlockable bootloader. Waiting for the T-Mobile device does not. What will people do if the bootloader is locked down on T-Mobile? Not buy the device because it's too "expensive?" Or will they shell the money out like they probably should have done from the start?

I would have to disagree. With JOD, there is no fee and I can upgrade 3x/year... but something is wrong with that, because I have already upgraded more than 3 times LOL. I've been able to do like 5 jumps in the past 10 months. Not currently on a jump though as I bought a 6P outright.
I played with the HTC 10, G5, and S7 Edge in a Verizon store yesterday...
The 10 definitely felt and looked great. I loved the software. This camera should be the #1 camera out there... same sensor as the 6P but with OIS, laser AF, and f/1.8? Get the software together HTC! It'll be really hard getting used to the small screen though. The home button actually felt nice (it's recessed) and is capacitive, so luckily the 5.2" isn't hampered too much since no on-screen buttons are present. The speakers seemed tinny in the store... definitely needed more hands on time with it. Only concern is the potentially bad sunlight viewing, and the fact that it's LCD. I hate LCD compared to OLED. Camera app was decent but not great. Max shutter speed I believe was 2 seconds? Bummer. But with the large pixels and f/1.8 it might be killer for anything other than moonlight shots. I'm a big audio guy, sort of... I only use Google Music, but I have some expensive audio stuff. Earbuds are SE846, so I imagine the 10 would compliment them better than my 6P. The only thing that would make this phone perfect for me would be if it were 5.5" and OLED.
The G5 felt like a toy. It may be metal, but the primed and painted feeling is just crap. The power button is REALLY small and felt/clicked like a $5 toy. Even the volume rockers sucked. The screen is too freaking small with the DPI and on-screen buttons. The only thing that phone has going for it is the camera (app mostly) and the good LCD - but I still hate LCD. I wish other manufacturers would get with the program. Having up to a 30 second shutter is INCREDIBLE at night with a tripod. And the app is gorgeous and truly manual control. AOD is stupid with an LCD - it looks terrible at night. I would pay $100 for that app to work on any of my other phones, no questions asked.
The S7 Edge was no surprise. It looks great and feels great. The edge screen gives the feeling that the display is bezel-less at the sides, and sort of floating. It looks cool as hell at a glance. But the curved edges are also annoying due to color shift on white screens (what you mostly look at). The edges turn blue-green. They also look kind of weird when viewing video content. The camera's autofocus is mind-blowing. It's practically instantaneous. The app is good. I'd rate it in-between HTC's and LG's. TouchJizz is still lame as **** though, and lack of root almost kills the desire to buy the phone. Water resistance is pretty dope though, but using a micro-USB port again isn't. AOD is useless without notifications.
Anyone know when the 10 is coming to T-Mobile?! They did an un-boxing weeks ago, so it's obviously happening. I think that'll be my best choice if I want something new until maybe the Note 6 or next Nexus comes out. Thinking it over the 6P is truly still an amazing phone. I've always loved vanilla Android, the camera is great, it's still quick, and the 5.7" OLED w/ stereo speakers is just lovely to have.
