have a look at my speaker grill - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is yours the same see how the right hand side looks blocked

Check out the ifixit tear down.
It seems the speakers cover only about the half of the grill.

Haven't seen the tear down you're talking about, but neither of my speakers are obstructed as such. Do you still get good sound out of em when turned up?

Here are pictures from gsmarena's review and the speaker grills do not look blocked!

Did you ever get this replaced? I'm looking at mine and both the top and bottom (the right sides) of the speaker grill look like it doesn't line up.

The hole in cases on back top right corner is for what?

Does anyone know what the hole is for on the top right corner on the back of the GN? Images below. You can also search for cases on Ebay and it is on all of them.

I don't see a mic hole on any of those pictures. And if you look at the second picture, it almost looks like a camera.
No GN I've seen so far has a mic in that location and that would be a pretty bad location for it.

Oh, yeah, a camera, that's it... No clue what that big ole thing an inch away is, but that tiny hole that you didn't even see - yeah that's a camera...
And please do tell why that would be a horrible location for a mic?

I never said it was a camera. I said whatever is behind that hole in the second picture just looks like one, alright? Cool.
And if you are on speaker phone and you place your phone down the noise cancelling mic is obstructed. Not that hard to realize honestly. Also, many people put their index finger on the top right of the phone when they hold it to their ear.

If you put the phone down in the way you describe you would also be obstructing the speaker... Most people set the phone with the speaker up for that.
I cannot fathom holding my phone in a way that obstructs that mic, however, even if i did, I would still have a regular phone call...

What's odd about it?
If it is a noise cancellation mic then its in the perfect position so I would back that theory. Up against the ear it would pick up surrounding sounds to minimize external sounds, in speakerphone operation (screen face down) it would act the same way and as the phone is quite long very few people would put their finger over the top of the phone to obstruct it.
Mark.
I think its the speaker.

You don't need a dedicated hole for the barometer. Any whole anywhere would do.

The barometer doesn't need a hole. It can just be inside the phone. It doesn't need a specific port to measure pressure. The pressure in the phone is the same as outside the phone, and there are plenty of ports on the phone already (the inside obviously isn't air tight).

LOL. That would be awesome, but the hole is way too small for the lanyard though
and it would need 2 holes for that
And its at the wrong end of the phone lol.
Mark.
just for reference, on the SGS2
the mic is at the bottom, and the noise cancellation mic is at the top, pretty close to where the opening of the GN case is showing
so i wouldn't be surprised if there's really a NC Mic in that location
after all it's just a pin hole, i don't think those pics are high quality enough to show it

The back is held on by tiny spring clips. I used a plastic credit card to slip along the edge, then pry/pop each tab. I think there were 4 or 5 on each side.
Use something thin and plastic so you don't scratch the bezel.

Just use your last name as your company name, and your address is all you need.
I've dropped mine from >1 meter exactly 6 times. Twice when cycling to work. This thing has seen some asphalt but is still working.
Here's a quick and dirty way to fix the back cover:
1. Carefully remove the back cover from it's place. The right way to do this is to push it down towards the bottom of the phone, but to do so you have to first remove the plastic bottom piece. Another way to remove the cover is to slide a screwdriver under it and gently push middle of the cover upwards. This is how I got mine off, I never removed the plastic bottom piece.
2. Fix any clips that are bent, they appear to be quite durable so you should be able to bend them back where they should be without breaking them.
3. Study the closing mechanism. The right way to seat the back cover is to place it few mm lower than it's place and slide up towards the top of the phone. Again, the plastic bottom piece should be off when seating the back cover, if not you'll find that one of the bottom covers clips is sitting on top of the bottom piece instead of under it. Screwdriver and carefully applied force are your best friends when getting that clip to it's right place.
Sorry I can't provide the instructions to do this right. I don't have any idea how to remove the plastic bottom piece.

[Q] Does your device creak?

I got my note 4 days ago. At first everything was ok, but yesterday I noticed my device is terribly creaking. Almost every time I touch the back it sounds like the plastic would break a little bit (Although I don't think it would actually break).
Do you have the same issues? Or should I sent it back and get a new one, since it's really annoying me...?

Mine creaks a little in the bottom right corner. Everything else is fine. I think it's the plastic back giving a bit. I had this on the Nexus 10 as well.

Yes, When I held the tablet with my left hand to touch the screen with my right it creaked like a rock band with bad music! Geeish.....the silver chrome or whatever the material is wasn't tight and it just bend. I returned it right away. I really didn't want to return it. However, I paid full price and not second hand money so I expect the performance to be right, that means no noise. When listening to music or watching a movie it seems as if someone was moving around and that can be pretty annoying. I tried holding it different ways with no change. So back it went. Let Samsung sell. This I know imagine you trying to sell it to the next person, what do you think they might say and how much will the value go down?

Yes, As soon as I opened the package, I noticed the bottom right hand corner was creaking an popping. It is not like I was looking for it. That made me investigate if the rest of the trim was doing the same. If you put your mind into into it, you can get some creaking from other ends of the trim but nothing like the bottom right hand corner. Every time I pick it up, it is annoying me so much that I feel I should take it back. I am not sure the guys at PCWorld would accept this as a reason for full money back or replacement claim. I do like the tablet, but do not want a noisy plastic in my hands.
Is this enough of a reason to ask for a replacement?

Sadly I dont think it is (pure guess so dont take my word for it) BUT I can 100% say that your Tablet will have a little bit of lightbleed along the bottom and sides....this alone is a good enough reason for them to accept and exchange - Good luck.

Put screen britghness to 100% and open this http://www.net-tracker.net/android/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/black_bg_1024x768.png, make sure it covers the entire screen inc notifications part and then switch off your lights in your room and you will then see light bleed, Its nothing major and common on LCD'S but it is a valid reason for a return/exchange.
I had lightbleeding on my first note but I found it to be acceptable however on my 2nd tablet I found the bleeding to be excessive and off putting so I got a refund from John Lewis,

If your one is not creaking then this definitely should be a rightful exchange claim for all those unfortunate to pick up badly put together tablets.
I am even considering getting my money back and going the Apple way. Excellent build quality, and I know that because I got some for the kids.
yeah maybe idk. Sammy is also known for build issues lately so you have to really inspect before you take home. The Note 3 home button is all wonky and wobbly on a lot of units.

Sorry for the question, but what is "idk" in your post?
Having a creaking case, would that get worse in terms of speading all around the tablet's trim?
Any experiences but no guesses please!

"IDK" means "I Dont Know".
I guess if the creaking was coming from say a loose glass to the digitizer i think it could be something that spreads. Since if the glass isn't glued down well enough i could see slight dust getting in there and causing more separation over time. I doubt this is the case as you'd see bubbling at the edges if that was happening.

Check the top right of your XL

Everyone,
Check the top right corner of your Pixel XL. Look and see if there is a tiny separation happening at the top right corner where it meets the top/side. I happened to notice on mine. It is very small but it's there. It's not like that on the left side. I went up to the Verizon store to possibly swap it out but while I was waiting for a representative I looked at their floor models and noticed the same separation on all of their models. It seems as if there was an adhesive used to fuse the phones together that did not stick on that side. I was actually able to press down on the corner and it would move so I know it is an actual separation. I'm curious to see if anyone else has noticed this?
Front or back? Either way there is no separation on mine on either side.

Maybe can you post a picture?
I HAVE deportation on the back, and it broke pressing the headset to my ear to hear my father better today...... I got the insurance but planned on returning it in 14 days because I have a Google over on the way.... Luckily Google said he will talk to Verizon for me and hook a brother up. This whole pixel thing is a disaster..... Phone is mint besides that minor stress fracture/shatter... FML shoulda just listened to the wife use a flip phone.
no, you are not crazy.
I also got it from google store and have tiny gap between the aluminium case and the front glass. It's very little, but it is there. I don't have another camera here right now, but when I'm home I'll try to take a shot of it.
I have the silver version and I guess with it you can see the gap better than with other color versions.
Anyway, luckily my case covers the gap, else I couldn't unsee it too.

Display sounds hollow?

I've noticed whenever tapping on the screen it sounds like there is a gap between the display and whatever is behind it and gives it almost a hollow sound. On the edges it is fine and sounds solid but in the center it has a definite Hollow sound. I don't particularly like it but I could see someone saying it sounds like the display is made of plastic.

I've noticed whenever tapping on the screen it sounds like there is a gap between the display and whatever is behind it and gives it almost a hollow sound. Yes I know that. But the LG display is composed of a plastic digitizer with glass screen is the same exact design of Samsung's AMOLED display they are nearly identical and Design what they are composed of. But I've never tapped on a Samsung screen or LG screen and have the sensation of hollowness behind display. The purpose of this post was to determine if anyone else had a similar experience with their pixel XL 2

I have definitely noticed this hollow sound. Taps seem to be a bit louder because of it. This display doesn't sound as solid as my past devices, I'm assuming/hoping I'll get used to it.

Jeff Springer told me to rma it, that it wasn't normal. I'm going up to Verizon tomorrow to tap on their pxl2 or maybe a couple different Verizon stores.
Mine sounds the same way and was actually going to.post this same question. Trying to decide to RMA or return and purchase again in a few months hoping all the manufacturing issues or worked out. I posted in the screen issues thread with all the other issues I'm having but this was just a side note.
Do you guys have a screen protector on your phones? I have one, it's the amFilm one ( doesn't have adhesive on the screen portion of the protector..). I definitely have that 'hollow' or plastic? Sound to the display and I'm wondering if it's the actual display or just the screen protector doing it do to it having an air gap due to no adhesive.
No screen protector here, didn't want to spend the money if I was returning the phone. I just keep it in my sunglasses pouch for now when in my pocket.
Ugh, me too. Sounds like cheap junk compared to Shamu

I noticed that too but I think it may be an illusion when combined with the haptic feedback which is a bit different than other phones I've used. I'm not entirely sure but the screen has a layer of gorilla glass and it is curved so it's less likely that it is flexing that much upon just a small tap.

Let us know your findings. I don't have a Verizon store near me and don't know anyone else with a Pixel 2 XL to ask. I thought maybe the hollowness might just be the way it's made or the curved glass or something. Thanks.

you guys need to RMA asap
^you make an excellent point! My Pixel XL 2 Rock's!
I think this might be the reason why this is the only phone I've ever had that listening to videos vibrates the screen

Yep, when I first played music, Im thinking WTH is that. The screen is vibrating. I think it's a feature, not a bug

My iPhone 8 does the same thing. The speakers are laud enough to vibrate the screen and the entire case.

So apparently after checking a couple pixel 2s and pixel xl2's I spoke with some dude at Verizon he seem like he was not your average phone store idiot. When I just briefly asked him why the display feels Hollow behind it he replied that it is due to the squeeze feature. The ****ing squeezing feature that's why.

Well, hopefully that's correct. I didn't think it was really defective, or at least hoping it wasn't, and that it was just the way it's supposed to be due to the way it's made. It's just the first phone I've had that feels/sounds that way, but of course the first one I've had with a sweezable frame. Thanks for passing along that information.
