[Q] Unknown hole ? - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

Hello, I'm sporting N5110 version, no LTE or 3g so it doesn't have a phone functionality. But there is something I don't know what is this for? A little hole above power button. Look like a mic hole, if I get one, at the bottom side next to the right speaker. I'm using gel cover for my Note and there are two holes in it: one for mic (if I get one) and other one above power button. I took a look and I found that there is this tiny hole.
What is it for?

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 N5110 and the Galaxy Note 8.0 N5120 are almost identical with the only difference that the N5110 is WIFI only and the N5120 supports 3G, LTE & Cellular Network and IMHO Samsung just used the same template for both devices

I know what speaker is, I know what microphone is but what tha hell is speakerphone? What is its purpose?

It doesn't apply to the N5110 "your model"

Well, it seems like it may! Because i have that hole and I don't have a hole for mic on the bottom side. I know whag are you talking abut, that all Note 8's have same chasis, just different features. But it seems like they don't, otherwise I should get prop hole for mic, too, but I haven't.
Anyway, I have it or not, can't you answer my question, which wasn't if I have something or nor but what is speakerphone?

Speakerphone is nothing more then a microphone that allows you to hold the phone a little distance away from your face when in a phone call, this can either be half-duplex "one way" or full-duplex "two way" but since the N5110 is WIFI only this feature is not relevant for the device since it cannot make phone calls, now moving forward.
I do apologize for my ignorance, I took my N5110 out of its case and looked to see if it had a microphone hole located at the bottom and realized that I indeed did not have a microphone there either, so having said that I can only come to the conclusion that the microphone/speakerphone hole on the side located above the power button is the microphone for the N5110 to be used for lets say S-voice, video recordings or Skype.
That is about as good of an explanation I can give
Hoping this was a much better answer

I want to say hello note family! This phone is already my favorite phone. Also I like to have a thread where ppl can ask questions about anything and talk about everything. I personally like to talk about lil this I find and share them with others. So we dont blow up threads on dev section and have a million threads on things that have been answered.
So to start it off, I found that the note 2 has low light feature witch makes photos look great!!!

That will def come in handy, esp these uppoming winter months when we're all pretty much stuck inside! Inside/dark photo-taking=always a challenge.
One of the hand gestures I saw on a video that I didn't know was there is pretty cool. Basically if you have it active, while your phones on your desk or at a table, you can wave your hand over the headset and it will turn on part of the screen(most the top half) and slowly dim over a few seconds. Basically used for taking a quick peak at missed calls/text/notifications.

[Q] is this part suppose to make a clicking sound?

i bought me the samsung galaxy note 2 about a month ago and recently i noticed when i press on the part on top next to the headphones port it makes a clicking sound as it something is not in place. i removed the back cover and pressed again it still clicks. i dont know for sure if it is a problem or not but it is really annoying me.
i cant return the phone for a new one because it passed the 14 days return policy in my country but it is still under warranty status.
im worried about one thing if i send it there that they might open the phone to fix it and i dont want an open phone
so can somebody an expert in these things can tell me if it is ok to leave it like this or should i get it fixed.
I just tested this out of mine and heard the clicking. I'm sure its not supposed to but the phone is creaky in general, guess it's just a trade off you have to accept when owning the best phone in the world.

He is talking about the upper bezel.
That click is because of the double tap the bezel to return to the top of a list (in contacts or messages etc).. It's a setting from motion settings.

[Q] How to check upper mic is working?

Hello guys,
Is there any way to check upper mic is working?
As you know our phone has dual mics, one at the bottom and one on the top, top one is for noise cancellation I believe, but sometimes phone uses it as primary (?), at least if I activate Speaker mode during call other side stops hearing my voice.
It is probably switched off then to save power because if you speak to the phone, the voice is gonna go to it from all sides.

I bought that today and asked for a reefund not long after, u can't make actual calls from your tablet or actually receive them. It shows the caller Id but u need a Bluetooth headset paired to your phone. Essentially it acts as a caller I'd screen, that's it.

You'll look stupid as hell because the tablet isn't made to be used as a phone. No ear speaker and no proximity sensor also the mic isn't lined up against your mouth.

I don't think your comments have anything to do with this thread. The OP didn't ask "what would it looked like if I used a tablet as a phone" he asked if it was possible to. Big difference.
I think this would be awesome, my Note looks stupid when I hold it up to my head, bluetooth headsets look stupid but they're very useful when I'm working with my hands. Bottom line is I don't care how it makes me look. I think it would be awesome if they made a 7" phone.

Ooh, and by the way the other stupid people are Google designers who forgot to put voice calling in this tablet because the thought people would be afraid to look stupid!
There was some ambiguity in the Googée advertisement, and I will prefer to look stupid (in the eyes of stupid people) rather than have to carry two pieces of equipment doing exactly the same things

I think you could tell Vonage app what phone number you want it to show when you are calling from it. I have it set up so my calls show my Google voice number to avoid confusion. But I have Google forward to my phone, so I don't use Vonage to answer calls, you'll have to try and see how incoming Vonage calls work.

[Help] Water Damage

I have gotten my note 2 water damged. I have dried it out and cleaned it and everything, but there is still one lingering problem. There is a water bubble in the rear camera. I have unassembled it and dried the lens but still its not working properly. So the problem is there is water in the actual rear camera and i wanted to know how to fix it without replacing it.

Considering the fact the radio, kernel, and OS are pretty much interchangeable between the t889 and n7100, I'd say it uses the same driver. ....... meaning same hardware. Looks identical, same connector, and same drivers...... you think it wont work why?
Both use the tolte kernels and build tree as well.
Besides, I cant imagine Samsung would make multiple camera modules that are all different.... but look alike..... that wouldnt be very cost inefficient for them.

Based on my stated reasons, the same website list 2 part numbers and 2 different prices.
And to cost efficient why do some have wireless charging and we have to mod ours. The s3 had a thread just like this and you know what, there was a slight size difference they caused it not to work. Will this one work, I don't know I'm just looking at details and made a comment. By the way I'm talking hardware differences. It can be the same core hardware with difference shell causing it not to fit

BURRNNNN!
For future reference i would take each advice with gratitude and not trying to prove one person wrong. Have an open mind. He is right if you did a little more research you would see he is right.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
First of all... the only thing I was wrong about was that the tolte was n7105..... for that, I stand corrected.
HOWEVER.....There is no burn as I am not wrong. Hardware wise the devices are identical as they use the exact same drivers for the cam.
Much like you can use the same driver made for a dlink on a netgear, or belkin wireless card, as long as they all are the same interface ( pci / usb ) and run on the same chipset. Same concept. Different part numbers but the same driver and connection = same device period.
Proof? Refer to this thread... you can port any n7100 rom to an n7105.... and since n7105 is tolte...... as is the t889, all drivers are the same.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018411
Partitions are laid out differently. ..However....you can modify n7100 roms to work for n7105 and i317. As such, that means the firmware to run the camera module should identical...also meaning the camera hardware is using the same components.
Now.....Since we do use the international note base in some of our t889 builds, ( JediX to name one ), that means the n7105 camera is the same as the t889 at least driver wise.
As long as the connection to the motherboard is the same, which it appears to be, and it has the same driver to control the hardware, he should be good to go. Ill order one next week just to try ......
Never go 100% based on part numbers ... I worked for Ricoh as a field technician ( digital imaging + digital copy equipment ) ...we used the same 5 photo sensors for 30+ machines. All had different part numbers but were all interchangeable. Part numbers were different so there was accountability for which models used sensors more.
One more thing. Some one also documented that when they tore down their phone, there were multiple models printed on the ribbons and other hardware ( i317 , n7105 etc ). Im willing to bet that there are n7100 parts in some of our phones anyway.....

I made a very simple comment that if I was a gambling man I would bet it wouldn't work, that's it then you had to turn it into a in right you're wrong thing. So go ahead you win, you're also exactly why I'm getting tired of xda.
Also, I'm not going by part number only. In your rant you missed the fact I said we had this exact scenario on the Verizon s3 and there was a slight difference in size that didn't allow it to fit.
But go in with your Internet gangster self, you're a bad man and the smartest person here.
I'd like to remind you on one thing though. You're talking about the RON being interchangeable. The"drivers" are in the kernel, which is not interchangeable. Try a TO3G kernel on your phone and let me know how that works out.

Also...I never claimed to be the end all to be all. I DO however have experience as an electrical / mechanical technician and worked on circuit boards / imaging equipment following point to point schematics..... Im not just some Internet made want to be know it all.
