[Q] Help for XP gaming only! - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Let me first start off with saying that I am quite a newbie.
I know how to flash a rom and a kernel, but that´s about it.
I have recently gained new interest in my old XPlay, and is returning to it. For portable gaming purposes only. It is a nice device.
I have also been out of the loop for the past 2 years, so I have no idea where to start.
1. How is emulation on the Xperia Play faring overall? What emulators do people use for PSX-emulation nowadays? Last I was into gaming, it was FPSe that was the number 1.
2. I want to be able to run FF9 as good as possible. Can it be run from start to ending perfectly? Can someone please point me in a direction to a nice, lag-free setup (kernel/rom/emulator). I am ONLY interested in gaming. The phone will not be used for anything else.
I would be very thankful if someone could help me out. Cheers!

Try the aurora play ROM, it's probably the best one for gaming, since you aren't interested on using the xplay as a phone.
As for the emulation try fpse for ps1 games, every game should run smoothly. Also games like GTA III will run perfectly on that ROM.

Thanks.
I have just installed the EliteGamer 2.0-rom, and I still get some lag in the music/battles of FF9. Using FPSe.
I have no idea if it would run better on another emulator?

Mmh, no, I don't think you'll get much better performance with other emulators...just try to overclock a bit and see how it works. Try 1,4 GHz and if there's still lag, try 1,6 GHz but use these freq only when you need performance for gaming since your battery will be drained much faster. No-Frills CPU Control is a very good app for overclocking, look for it on the Play Store. Make sure you use the latest Lupus GB kernel for more performance.
Unfortunately the Xplay has an "ancient" hardware so don't expect miracles from it...

Slow DSOID on 1.8 OC

Has anyone experienced slow DS emulation even with the 1.8 OC? I've been trying to run DSOID properly but my speed just sucks completely! I know its not the CPU since I get a 7000+ score on Quadrant, and its not the ROM. I'm using CleanROM which is stock. do you guys know what could be wrong with my setup?
What is you GPU clocked at? Also, you must remember that DSoid is still in development and you should only expect slowish speeds. Hopefully in the near future most games will be playable but not yet. Some games like Mario are very playable, so what game are you trying to play?

My GPU is clocked at 650 with fsync disabled and ondemand governor. I tried playing Pokemon Diamond and New Super Mario Bros, but both games where super slow.
The emulation engine is still a WIP. Until the dev for the app works out the best native emulation setup, most games will more than likely run that way. As the person above ,e said, the app is in very early stages. Stick with him and see how it evolves over time.

I can't get it to work at all. I load a rom and just get a white screen, even with the elite kernel.

Did you check out the app reviews? Slow for everybody right now, dsoid is a work in progress.
Dsoid is still very slow, I don't think that DS emulation will ever be up to par on the tablet market. I also doubt that Dsoid will be on the market for very long because it very clearly encourages piracy on a console that is still quite popular.
The Play store seems fine with emulators as long as you don't steal code. It's much more likely that the author will give up before making it playable. Still, I am very excited to see what DSoid can be.

Need For Speed Most Wanted

I've played many high end Apps on my SGS2 for quite some time (IE:Shadow Gun, Modern Combat, etc) with no problem or lag whatsoever. But now a days it feels as if those same games feel rather laggy on my same phone. (Stock but rooted). I found Need For Speed Most Wanted to be rather fun but there are times where it lags very badly. Is this everyone? And if so.. How can I over clock but stay as stock as possible? A guide would be lovely. Thanks in advance

I have a few lag issues (unnoticeable). Maybe trying running an AOSP ROM like CM10 or AOKP? Also you could try the h0tcakez kernel, which also has GPU Overclock. Also trying using the CPU rendering = GPU rendering mod which helps to free up the CPU.
The adreno 220 chip in these phones is already past its prime guys. Be thankful the games even play half as well as they do.

Comments like the one above are just so pointless.. Go away .
It's true though, three GPU in or phone was nothing new when it went in in the first place... but is far from not being good enough to play these new games.
I have also been play NFS most wanted, but i have not had any of the slow Downs of lag your seeing. Granted i am on paranoid android with my CPU and GPU OC'd'... but my wife's sensation also plays it super smooth and i have her CPU undercloxked to help with battery same CPU and GPU...
The game shows incompatible on my SGH-T989 with kodoo stock 4.04 firmware.
can someone help me sort it out?
Where can I get NFS MW?
Sent from an iPhone, ***** please it came from a T989 from the future

N64 Emulator Lag

Hey all! I just got my S3 last week and it's my first Android phone. I'm trying to run an N64 emulator (Mupen64Plus) and it's pretty laggy, especially when sound is enabled. I've seen and posts about users running N64 games just fine on their S3's, so I'm not sure what the issue is. If anyone has any suggestions for getting my phone to play N64 games smoothly, I'm all ears. Btw, I haven't rooted or done anything fancy and don't plan to in the near future.
Some info: I ran the Quadrant Standard benchmark and got 5392. Generally, I'm using about 750/1560 MB or RAM (before running the emulator). I've run a process monitor that says nothing else is taking more than 2% of the cpu, except for the "System," which takes <10%. In all, it looks like not much is bogging the system down, so I'm really not sure why this app is having trouble. Are there other comparable high-end android games I should test my phone against? Thanks, guys.

An S3 and the T999 have completely different hardware specs. Its uses the same screen, battery, and case, but thats about it. The S3 has a quad core, we have a dual core. Try another n64 app or a different site for getting rome. Also, make sure you place your roms on internal storage, if you're running a lower class SD Card.
This sounds like an app problem. ..try using a different emulator. Mess with the settings even. My emulator runs fine
You're asking a tiny handheld device that is designed to be a PHONE to do the things a device designed to be GAMING CONSOLE to do.
I'm just saying....
There may be other emulators that will do better on your particular phone.
It's not an alien spaceship you know.
Im pretty sure the only app that doesnt lag is N64oid try that. Runs perfectly for me

[Q] Best gaming only setup!

Basically. After the disappointment of Airborne not being available for our lovely phones I have decided to to dig out my old Xperia Z again and start using that with the JXD again for my main android fix. Just bought my missus a Galaxy S4 clone which is amazing so we happen to have a 'spare' Z lol).
Anyway, what would people recommend specifically for gaming. I want to Tory the extreme kernel for 2.3ghz gaming so want a Rom to compliment it. Do people recommend stock? Heard about cola Rom but this is only CDMA isnt it?
Also, I know there's a safelist of things that can be removed but is there an extreme one that lists everything that can go like phone.apk etc, just leaving the google framework stuff?
It's a shame but this Gameloft ditching us thing is :'(

I Recommend my xElite Gamer 1.8 (HOT UPDATE!) or The Ace Xperia Play Setup if u want more of your own customization (Ace Setup, isnt a rom, its a guide on how to get best stock based rom!),

WHAT?, now I'm rude just for saying you are wrong? wow, I don't want to imagine what you do to your kids just for sneeze...
Now, back to Asphalt, even if the game is not available in Google Play, Gameloft include full support for Xperia PLAY controls and if you decompile the APK you will see the required line for Xperia PLAY Suite support.

Wow, I'd hate to see what you say to your kids when they get a spelling wrong. "Excuse me, you are wrong!". There are more polite ways to say it. As for Asphalt, I would only buy it from Google Play store, I cannot, therefore the game is not compatible with my PLAY, regardless of whether Gameloft implemented XP support or not. Other people will also face this issue.
I think this thread has run its course. Thanks for the help guys

I have tried the game. It fully supports game pad and touch pad but it's so laggy. The game is so heavy that our play can't afford to play it. I wonder why they support xplay but they don't optimise the game for xplay's low hardware.
What were u running?
I think my setup can get it going... (Ace setup)

Yes, this game is SO heavy, but after I've seen on youtube, it's not a CPU but a RAM game. With 315 MB the game runs fine.
Gameloft was probably going to support Xperia PLAY but after tests they decide not to sell it in Google Play because it requires SO MUCH more RAM than stock ROM.

OK now I understand why they don't sell it to xplay users. With the required 315 MB Ram I think only ExtremeKernel_-000p can afford it

ya its a ram game, also dont underestimate the stock rom, i can get 240mb ram nicely, , but im using a 720p kernel, and maby with extreme kernel 000p on stock it would be best, but wifi modules dont work on stock atm,
EDIt
Just tested how much ram i can get, i can get 260mb ram with using the App Quarantine, but this is without killing anything...
when killing some bg apps (stock keyboard and some stuff) i can gain 280mb, (720p Lupus v12.5 Kernel, Will swapp to ExtremeKernel on -r3 when Wifi modules work properly on stock rom... , if he fixes it...)
Just tried on extreme kernel 000p on very low and low settings too. After started racing its laggy for 5-10 secs but after that its playable, smooth, and there's no lag. With this kernel i usually have around 300 mb ram. Its so cool I use xElite gamer 1.8, Its great too, thanks @Pizza_Dox !:fingers-crossed:
about the game: Its seams to be a really nice, but i cant understand it why it consums so much ram. Probably because the big tracks??
IMO these graphics are not the best i've ever seen on my play, but its good at all. Keep it up Gameloft!
Must be a bug... Maby some things within the game or bad optimization!

Is CM11 any good for gaming?

Hello there. I am a heavy Arcane Legends player which is a very demanding mmorpg game. Gaming on jb was a failure, it didn't lag only if the game was 2D, at least that was my experience with it. So i switched back to gb.
Gb is fine for the most part but Arcane Legends uses up a lot of memory so after playing a while it can get very laggy and that's when i have to restart the app. Also chainfire 3D helped me get better performance.
My question is: Is it worth upgrading from gb to cm11 for gaming performance? I don't care about ui changes or other functionalities, i want to know if its worth upgrading for gaming alone.

Don't know bout cm 11 but AOSP 4.4 has really great gaming performance.
San Andreas was really smooth and playable so i believe this game might also have better performance as compared to gb.
