NC2 root and rom - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Question.... I have the NC2can I just Odin twrp and flash a rooted knox free custom rom and all is good?

Yeah, just remember that you will trip the Knox counter
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk

Yes understood, not worried just thought something may have changed in nc2 since nobody posted how to root it? Or people prolly still using the other 4.3 root method or removing knox and flashing superSU. Thank you sir!

There is a method posted to root, but since you want a custom rom its really unnecessary

Can we root the official At&T 4.3 yet?
I Odin'd my phone back to 4.1.2 before sending it out due to a bad headphone jack. It updated to 4.3 today and curious when my replacement comes and probably has 4.3 on it already, can it be rooted quick and just run a rooted stock for a while?
EDIT
Good KNOX info http://www.kingoapp.com/help/samsung-knox-counter.htm
This is what you need:

after you do it you will have to update SU through the play store and then it will disable knox for you as well..

No worries! Just keep in mind after you do it you'll get notifications about knox and security. Ignore them and head to the play store to update SU, because you won't be able to open SU till then. Also bear in mind that this will trip the knox counter and there is no going back.....it will void your warranty! You have been warned

KNOX counter is seperate from the Flash Counter? Before when I was on stock 4.1.2 and flashed custom 4.3 and 4.4 roms , I never saw any KNOX notifications or warning...Is this new with the 4.3 OTA?
My first phone had headphone jacks issues too. i reset it with odin and had it replaced with no issues from at&T. Now this one is repeating the same issue. I Odin back to 4.1.2 and took the 4.3 OTA before i call them and they want to remote desktop into my phone like before.
If KNOX only comes with the 4.3 OTA i wont take it if the replacment phone doesnt come with 4.3 preloaded
Anyway of confirm KNOX status on my phone? or is it something at&t doesnt look at
I Rebooted into download mode and it says KNOX Warranty VOID:0
So i guess I am good with this one......?
Never saw the KNOX before in download mode...So it must have came with the 4.3 OTA
If the replacemnt comes preloaded with 4.3 and I root theres no going back for non rooting warranty issues
If it comes with 4.1.2 i should be ok...cause my others came with 4.1.2 and i rooted and installed 4.3 and 4.4 roms , odin'd back to 4.1.2 and never saw knox before.
It's new in the 4.3 OTA MK6. It is separate from the flash counter and CANNOT as of now be reset. They can see it in the same place the flash counter is.
It will show 1 which means warranty void. If you can get one without 4.3 do it
This is what it looks like now:
Triangle away still works but the knox counter stays no matter what!
Edit: If it is still showing 0, then you are good to go
Geeve
thats good news LOL
4.3 preloaed=screwed if i root it
4.1.2 preloaded= no knox, free to root, flash, unroot and reset , send back with any non root related warranty issues.
Glad i didnt root the OTA in the meantime while i wait for my replacment..
Thanks for all info and help Geeve
You got it and no problem
Geeve
So i guess no custom 4.3 or 4.4 rom will install KNOX behind our backs..Just the OTA and any possible updated bootloaders if we dont pay attension and flash one
Baseband/Modem updates should not install knox...correct?
Correct! all the custom 4.3/4.4 roms use a leaked bootloader and most if not all have the knox stuff removed. It is only the MK6 OTA for our phones that is screwing us right now. We can still root and flash, but warranties are void..

[Q] rooting and installing roms MK2

Hey guys
I don't currently have this phone model, but my friend wants me to root and install a 4.4 rom on it. Just have a couple of questions.
Would saferoot or cf-autoroot both work? I have no experience with either so if someone could recommend one over the other that would be great. I'm a little more experienced with saferoot since I'm recommending it for people who took our 4.3 OTA. Never actually used it.
Also for us Verizon folks, we got locked bootloaders in the update. I know that Knox is included in the update, but am I able to still install a custom rom over it? I understand the Knox counter will be tripped, but I'm not concerned about that. Just don't want the phone to soft brick from an installation.

Cf auto root works. You can still install custom roms if you trip Knox

Strange but true

Strange. I have I9192DDU1BML1. Kingo method and acro68 method of rooting did not trip my knox flag. I installed CWM recovery. I also flashed custom kernels. Silvumik and c0bain kernels. It is again 0x0. I'm happy of course. But how did it happen. Any clues.

AFAIK Kingo's get their rooting method from Saferoot, which does not trip knox at all. However flashing over Kernel suppose to trip the knox. Well, should just consider lucky and be happy
Omce you trip the l knox from flashing over your kernel is there anyway to fix that because I cannot flash anything. I get a verizon warning about unauthorized software and that I need to bring the phone in

Can you post your download screen

Question about which root method to use.

I just recently picked up a T-Mobile unlocked Note 3. It's still stock on 4.3 and I'm trying to find out what is the best way to root without tripping the KNOX counter.
Also, will flashing any recovery trigger the KNOX counter?
Basically, what will and won't trigger it.
Thanks in advance.

All I could find is
"If you are running MJ4, MJ7, MK1, MK2 or higher you can still root, but you will trip KNOX!"
But it also doesn't say that it won't trip Knox on others. It also doesn't state if there's a way to flash a recovery or rom without tripping Knox.

You can root MI7 with RDLV and not trip Knox. Custom recoveries WILL trip Knox. Custom kernels WILL trip Knox. Custom roms WILL trip Knox unless you use safestrap.

It shouldn't, but no guarantee obviously. Just root with RDLV and install safestrap. It uses stock kernel and injects itself between the boot loader and the stock ROM.

I believe you can only use TW based Roms, since they use the stock kernel. Search for the safestrap thread for more about it. Good luck!

i searched the whole xda but couldnt find anyone with the new tmobile update for the t999l T999LUVUBNC1. Im rooted and removed knox. currently on T999LUVUBMK4 was wondering how would i install this new update and if it will brick my phone or not. thanks in advance
Sorry, I forgot to add it to my firmware thread. I will do that. In the meantime, you'll probably have to download from http://samsung-updates.com or http://sammobile.com/firmwares
Flash via Odin.
Won't brick, but will need to re-root and remove knox.

will it remove twrp from my phone?
Yes, you will be completely stock. Keep in mind that with any 4.3 updates you cannot flash older firmware anymore. Roms are ok, just not previous firmware. You probably already know that since you're on MK4. But FYI anyway.
You can flash using Mobile Odin, but it will not update your bootloader and other underlying partitions. They would remain MK4. You could tell it to not flash recovery and twrp would be preserved.

So is there a new way to root T999LUVUBNC1? One that will NOT trip the flash counter and possibly the Knox counter? I've been looking but could not find anything.

yeah i just odin the latest twrp recovery and then download the flashable rootzip somewhere on here and you should be root could also flash the knox removal too if you wanted.
Flashing the recovery will trip the warranty bit though, just fyi.

I don't think cf autoroot will trip knox, but don't take my word for it as it not positive. You'll have to check the cf autoroot thread in Original Development to see if there is one made for your T999L firmware. The T999 one will not work for you.

I did find that there is one.made for the t999l, but not sure about tripping Knox. In the development thread it says it will, but I'm not sure if he means after flashing a custom recovery or not. I would just do it, but I still have 6 months of warranty left.

Only info anywhere I've found just says it provides stability improvements or something to that effect. They likely either just patched up some bugs they found, and/or are trying to get ready for 4.4 OTA's.

I don't know if it will still work on the latest builds, but you could also look into MotoChopper. Some used it to root in the past, and I know it does not write over recovery, so it may not trip the warranty bit. I have no idea if it would trip, or even if it'd work anymore, but is another option worth looking at.
Check ATT forums too. Their root methods usually work for us too.
