Camera focusing issue? (with video) - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There is another thread on focusing issue, but I don't know if we are talking the same thing since the OP set the focus to infinity, not auto.
Z1 Compact camera loses focus easily in dark/bright situations. Not only in video mode but in photo mode too, obviously. It happens all the time, even on far objects. Here I demonstrate with screen of another phone because it is a very good dark/bright object with a great contrast.
I've tested on stock, CM and Slim camera apps. This video is taken on Slim camera.
Do you have the same problem?

No one noticing this issue, or does no one care? I don't either since I mostly use camera to take photos..

[Q] Camera problems

Hello!
I need some assistance regarding the HOX stock camera app.
You see, the photos i tace with the One X turns out really bad.
My old (old, old, old) iPhone 3GS kicks this one's ass.
The images turns out grainy and low res. It's set to 8mpx and all settings are stock.
Now i thought it was a hardware problem but when trying other camera apps souch as Camera Zoom FX they turn out pretty great.
The stock camera app pictures is about 1.5-1.7 mb while the Camera Zoom fx are at a natural ca 3.5mb.
Photo taken with stock camera app: 8mpx: http://oi45.tinypic.com/n2odar.jpg
Photo taken with Camera Zoom FX, 8mpx: http://oi48.tinypic.com/i5ver8.jpg
HOX stock: http://oi49.tinypic.com/21dizcx.jpg
Camera Zoom FX: http://oi48.tinypic.com/315cvg0.jpg
What could be causing this problem, or should I simply return it?
Do you have the stock camera app 8mp set to 16:9 or 4:3 format? I noticed with my own testing that the 16:9 format uses less of the sensor and you dont get full 8mp images resulting in lower image size. The 4:3 format is getting me 2.8mb+ image size.

You seem to have already answered your first question, and as to whether to return it or not because the stock camera app over compresses images, well, up to you.
Stock cam app compresses so you can have burst mode. Third party apps don't have the same speed as stock camera, but compensates with quality. And no, even with the stock app, the 3GS camera is worse.
harlz: I've tried both. 4:3 gives me a slightly better image.
I'ts strange thoug. Yesterday I rebooted the phone and took a picture, the screen was black for about 3 sek and then it took a photo that was just amazingly good. I took about tree more great pictures that ended up on ca 4mb. But now. I'm down to about 2mb and the images just looks like crap.
What could be causing this? Is anyone experiencing something like this?

Sounds like you were using the HDR function of the camera?

Camera Focuse Issue

Hello Hello Hi and Hello Again! :victory:
I've been trying for a while to take photos with my Google Galaxy Nexus but there's no way to keep the focus zone while i'm shoting. Each time i touch the screen to shot the photo, the phone loses the focus zone. Is there any way to fix this?
Have you tried other focus settings? Continuous focus stinks. Try using infinity
What other focus settings? I don't see any in the Camera app.

You must be on stock ROM.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Yup, it's a big oversight in the stock camera app. I don't understand how it's not there since it was in older versions.
Try an app called Camera Zoom FX (it was previously on Google's 10 cent deal). The program allows you to touch the screen where you want the camera to focus, and it'll automatically take a shot once it's achieved focus. The big glaring weakness of Camera Zoom FX, in my opinion, is the fact that you can't adjust the exposure. (that is, you need to be able to meter the light on a different part of the scene than you're focusing).
Honestly, it's not hard. To me, the two biggest requirements:
1. Touch to focus and shoot
2. An option to measure light from a different source (e.g. take a photo of someone in front of a window; you want to meter their face and not the window's light)

Google Camera mod with HDR+

Anyone else give the modded camera a try. I just installed it & I didn't experience any issues. I'll test it some more tomorrow though

Im using Mod rom viper 10 5.1.1
Im realise that latest HTC camera for HDR+ seems like have compress picture to reduce noise in the picture same like google camera apps,
I also try modded google camera apps and the result was almost the same (noise reducing)
which version u installed guys?U have weird noise pattern in low light?
Yeah, super noisy for me too, stock cam takes way better pics.
Are you all on stock or AOSP
I've tried this on both stock and PureFusion, there's always a noise pattern but it's most noticeable in low light pics. The noise starts about 1/4 of the screen away from the home button and continues to the edge of the picture facing the selfie cam. It's only our phone that has this issue so it'll likely never be corrected.
This is somewhat disappointing, as I was hoping this would help camera quality on AOSP roms. I loved LOS, but I couldn't take a good picture to save my life. The stock sense ROM camera really makes use of that camera sensor, as it should. Still kind of bugs me the Google Camera doesn't make better use of the sensor, since it uses the same camera sensor as the 5X/6P (10 has OIS, where the 5x/6p does not), and those phones take great pictures. I know there's more to it than just "your phone has *x* sensor, so we can take some great pics". It's just a little annoying, is all.

Blurry pictures of moving objects

I bought the G3 about a year ago for its praised photo quality. Since then I experimented with different ROMs, from Stock to Limitless and now Fulmics. With all ROMs, many of my pictures are blurry. It happens almost always with moving objects (even of very slow speeds), but occasionally with still objects too. I have noticed that turning on the HDR function makes a huge difference on capturing speed and image quality, but it heavily depends on the environment (meaning that I have to take a photo, turn HDR on or off and retake the photo). Is anybody else experiencing the same issues? Is my camera broken or is it a software issue?
HDR will need more time to take a picture so you need a still shot. Does that issue occur on stock rom as well?
I noticed the lag when HDR is on, but the pictures are blurry with HDR in on, off or auto setting. I did use the stock image quite some time ago. I believe that the overall quality was the same as Fulmics/Limitless, which should not be surprising, because they are both built from stock and use the same proprietary camera driver (is this correct?).
I remember that the image quality of AOSP was terrible, because it cannot take advantage of the device specific features such as the laser focus (please correct me if this is wrong).

Question Photos always blurry

Is anyone else having luck with the camera on this phone? Any photo I take of an object that's not completely still (i.e. children, who are usually the subject of my photos) comes out so blurry as to be basically useless. My old phone from 2017 took better pictures of moving targets than this! There must be some camera setting I need to change, but I can't find it. Googling the problem is not very helpful. GCam doesn't work (the viewfinder freezes) and it doesn't seem like anyone is actively developing GCam for the S21FE snapdragon version. Please help!
Use stock cam. Uninstall any 3rd party cam apps.
Clear cam data and clear system cache.
Try again.
Does manual focus work in pro mode?
Try using AF in safe mode.
Tried that. No luck. Manual focus not much help on a moving subject.
I should mention, the entire photo is not blurry. It's like the camera picks a random object in the background and focuses on that. Anything that's not stockstill is blurry. I tried it with "tracking autofocus" enabled and disabled, and got the same results. Tried turning on/off the "intelligent scenes" as well, no luck.

It has a fast lense ie a very shallow field of focus especially if close to the subject.
Doesn't that have lasser aided AF? If so it should be spot on.
On my N10+ I need to use manual focus sometimes for very close macro shots. Otherwise it does well including tracking.

Happens to me also. Samsung tends to take photos with a higher shutter speed and lower ISO. Autofocus is also slower in the stock camera. Try OpenCamera and see if it's better.
Update: Actually nevermind, OpenCamera has the same shutter speed with lower light. It seems to be something preset in the camera API of Samsung phones.
