[Q] Best Apps for transferring files over WiFi? - One (M7) Themes and Apps

Hi everyone,
An iOS App called "DeskConnect" caught my attention because it is pretty neat at what it does. It allows you to send files from your PC/Mac to your, in this case, iDevice (or vice versa) over WiFi in a breeze. You just have to download the App on the computer and iDevice register with the same account on both devices.
My question is, is their an application similar to DeskConnect for Android? I'd like to download an App on my Mac and HTC One and be able to send stuff from my computer by just dragging what I want to send into the application and then receiving the document in the application on my phone.
I know I can probably connect my phone via USB and then transfer files like but I want to know if there is an easy way to do this over WiFi.

AirDroid is pretty cool for doing that.
For me sometimes a bit buggy though. (especially when transferring mp3)
Still in my opinion the best choice!
Everything runs over your browser.
Ps: the registration is only needed if you want to transfer files through the Internet rather than using your network.

PushBullet is what I use. But the limit for uploading a file is 25MB. I know some apps are bigger than that but it's worked well for me so far, light on the PC and phone, just runs on the browser as well.

PushBullet!:good: It's simple. Download the app to your phone and the Chrome extension, log in to both and voila "push" files with one click!

I've been using WiFi File Transfer Pro for a good while now, it's very good..... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smarterdroid.wififiletransfer&hl=en

I would say Air Droid is best because you can also control your camera and have notifications displayed on the PC

Android has a lot better solution than that. You can install "Software data Cable" . Chose Sync and it create an FTP server. You just need to have a FTP client on your PC/Mac/Linux.
What's more, when the phone is not in wifi network, it can create an wireless Hotspot.

i use this:

working with wlan/3g

ES File Explorer which is very easy to setup, especially using this guide

Solid Explorer has a nifty FTP share feature... I used it because for what ever reason I couldn't mount my One via USB. Airdroid works well too.

Whoa! Didn't expect to get a lot of replies, thanks you guys!

Mounting the EVO as a wireless drive on a PC?

Anyone know how I would go about mounting my EVO's sdcard on a pc wirelessly? Thanks.
bluetooth?
lol, yes that is a question
Bluetooth File Transfer from the Market works well for me, although obviously your PC has to have Bluetooth as well. I bought a cheap Bluetooth dongle for my laptop.

I just use dropbox. drop the file you want on your dropbox folder then go to your phone, find that then download it and your good
Drop box is a necessity that or sugar sync basically same thing. I use it for all my side loaded apps so they are always ready when I flash a new rom.

why not use a2sd? (apps 2 sd)
Ive tried most of the solutions mentioned. I'm particularly looking to be able to access my EVOs sdcard either through a mounted drive or windows share wirelessly. Its important I can access it in this fashion because I work on computers all day and would like to be able to carry my drivers collection around with me. Its nice to be able to just point a machine to a drive share load the appropriate drivers. FTP, Dropbox and WebDAV solutions just to make this process efficient for me.
EStrongs File Browser is nice how it can browse PCs on the same subnet but I would like to do the same except browse my phones storage from the PC side via a share.
If you used something like dropbox you wouldn't need to use your phone at all just load up your dropbox with all of them and then just log on to the dropbox website on the computer you need the drivers.
I would think that anything that would make so you could wirelessly push files from your evo to a computer, would require a program or driver installed or a Bluetooth dongle, and that would take most of the point of away
you can always just carry around a usb cable and do it that way.
do a bluetooth file transfer, that usually works for me
try android desktop it is a small websserver on your phone it allows you to access your phone through the pc web browser. free from ao store. Blue tooth is fairly slow on large files. with the desktop you should be able to use the wifi or 3 g.

[Q] Removable Disk via Bluetooth?

I had it in my Nokia, so simple.
Is there a way to open and transfer the files at my DHD through my PC via Bluetooth?
I hate this cables that I need to plug in just to transfer 3MBs..
I want to make this "Removable Disk [E]" but via Bluetooth connection,
not sending file like (right click > share > bluetooth, and then it sends to my phone)
I want a full access, opening my DCIM folder, deleting files, and renaming..
Is there a software or app to make it?
I could do it very easily with my old N95 with its software "Nokia PC-Suite",
I could just enter the software (through keyboard shortcut that I made), and few seconds later, by no touching, no connecting any cable, it would open my phone's folder.
I miss that easy life
How can I do it here too?
Thanks,
Yarden.
There is similar apps called Wifi Explorer Pro...as it name states, it uses wifi though...if it suits you, it can explore, download or upload any files from and to your desire hd...using wifi...much faster than using bluetooth though...i hope it helps you

Use MyPhoneExplorer and wifi. It's what I do to sync contacts, calendar and files.
Dave
First of all thank you for your replies.
But both apps aren't really what I'm looking for,
I'll explain my self again,
I want a pc software (not necessarily) that when I open it, it searches via bluetooth (or as new as you teached me, via WiFi), for my phone and open its files, like it would do if I plugged the USB cable.
That it gives me a new drive (C,D,E,F...) with all the mobile contents (folders, music, pictures ..etc)
I use web sharing it gives me full access to my sd card.

File Transfer Over LAN App

Does anyone know of any good apps to use for this? I used to have one for my G1 but it stopped working, got renamed, and I can't remember what it is now. Basically an app where I can take files from my PC and send them to my phone over my LAN using my phone's WiFi. The program I used before did this through my web browser on my PC and it worked fantastically while it lasted. I have Dropbox and I thought this was a feature, but either I'm not figuring out how to make it work or it's not.
Thanks!

Have you tried placing a file in your Dropbox folder on your PC, then accessing it through the Dropbox app on your phone?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Well that works obviously, however it doesn't transfer via LAN. It uploads it to the Dropbox server then downloads it from there when I grab it on my phone. While this works, it is also a time consuming process because Dropbox limits, at least my, download bandwidth from my phone. I can upload at about full speed (close to my 5 mbps upload) but my download isn't fast at all (will only download at about 100 kb/s when I have a 50 mbps download line). The reason I'm looking for LAN is because it is the fastest option available.
I'm looking for something like this to. I move stuff between my Transformer and g2 alot. Dropbox is nice but I want to get rid of the middle man.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
you could just use one of the abd over wifi apps, that's what I do and it works well.
no spiffy web ui or anything of course and transferring via adb push/pull can be a little cumbersome, but it's easy enough (and fast).
Details on how to do this?
I use AndFTP. You might have to set up an FTP server on the receiving machine, but it allows multiselect and browses quite easily. It also has SFTP and you can connect over WAN as well.
Another option would be bluetooth file exchange, which might be built in at this point. You'll probably have to pair your device so that your computer can recognize the BT service. It's a bit slower than wifi! I know that Linda file manager and the OI/CM file manager support it. Long press the file and select send/send to bluetooth. To send from computer to phone, you'll need sumpthin sumpthin on your PC.
I put stuff on my NAS and the use CifsManager to access the drive over the network.
I think the best way to do this may be with Samba, and I used to use astro filemanager with the samba plug in to do this, but it just force closes on Gingerbread
Samba Is The Best!
Samba is by far the best way.
I personally use this app: Samba Filesharing
It runs a native samba server on the device.
I then have a drive letter mapped to my phone so i can simply access my sd card with any pc application without wires.
Regards,
OllieD
Try ES File Explorer
It does it all: basic file explorer, copy/paste, local or SD card or LAN and FTP, etc
One app to do it all
WiFi File Explorer is the app I use.
Turn Wifi on the phone, via web browser open the url (typically something like http://192.168.1.XXX:8000) and then you can transfer/delete/modify/create files on your sd card via your LAN.

[Q] Transferring Large Files Between Phones??

Ok, I know I'm not crazy, but is there ANY way, besides Bluetooth, to transfer large files between the LGOG and another Phone?
I've tried the LGOG's FileShare app but it refuses to recognize my GS3 even after they both connect via Wi-Fi Direct. And just using plain ol' Wi-Fi Direct doesn't even come up as a sharing option on this phone. I can't use NFC obviously because it's only intended for small files and links. I've already tried bluetooth, but I have another thread floating around this forum detailing my experience with my LGOG being unable to connect to ANY other phone after it powercycled when connected to a friend's GS3. (On a side note, it did it AGAIN when I was connected to my bluetooth speaker today)
This is the only thing that freaking bugs the hell out of me about this device. The lack of options to wirelessly share files between devices. Obviously my bluetooth is most likely defective. Waiting on a custom OS to see if that will resolve my BT issues. But come on, this is ridiculous.
EDIT:
Oh, and the SmartShare app limits you to only Pictures, Video, and Music!
You could always connect both phones to a PC and put them in MTP mode (not charge mode) and the PC will recognize them both as a media player, allowing you to browse the entire file system. Then just copy the file from one phone to the other using PC.
Can't WiFi direct be used? I know you tried it but maybe your doing something wrong. Sadly I've never messed with it

Well, I have a GS3 also. On that phone, whenever you long press on a file/app and click "Share", Wi-Fi Direct comes up as one of the options to use as a file transfer medium. All you have to do is clock wifi direct and click the device and BOOM! The file starts sending. However, on the LGOG, it's not that simple for some odd reason. I can turn on wifi direct on both phones AND link them. But if i wanna send a file from my LGOG to another wifi direct device, it doesn't come up as a share option. You can open up Smartshare and use the LGOG like a DLNA server and play/upload music, movies, and pictures from the LGOG to the other wifi direct device. But Smartshare (unless i'm using it wrong) only limits you to those three options. What if I want to transfer an 850MB .zip or .iso file???
You could try "samba file sharing" on the market. Phone should show as a samba share on your windows network. Then you can use es file explorer, LAN, access the share. Have not tried, but this should enable wireless file sharing.

Haha, so funny that you mentioned that app. I did an intense search and ended up stumbling on Samba Fileshare a few hours after my last post. Has a tendency to force close every now and then but it works pretty good.

Transfer photos from S9 to PC via WiFi

Anyone have a fast way to transfer from phone to PC via WiFi?

Thanks but I don't want any sync apps / programs, just a way to copy manually across via WiFi the same as I can with ES, but at a decent speed
I've tried those sync programs before and they're as annoying as iTunes
Everything I have found about SMB copying via ES has the same problem as I am having, not sure why as I am on 5GHz WiFi and it should be quick
It's not making sense though, if say I tell it to send 5 x images, it will run at about 400kB/s, if I try the other way around and copy from PC to Phone, it runs at upto 5MB/s
And if I copy the exact same way but to my NAS instead, it copies at 1.4MB/s

I've tried about everything and always go back to just using either Dropbox or Google Drive. It's a 2 step process but I've found that I can almost immediately go to my other device and it will be available.
I use Total Commander with the LAN addon now, works perfectly, create a shared folder on PC, done
