radio upgrade? - Samsung Captivate Glide

hi guys, im in the u.k and owened this phone for over a year..
just wondering if there are any radio upgrades available for this phone as the reception is seriously poor, now im not sure if i was just unlucky in getting a bad handset, or if its to do with the frequencys used in the u.s & u.k. (i checked before i got the phone and the frequencys should be the same)
when im in the house i put my sim card in my old htc desire z & turn on wifi hotspot and use my glide using wifi.
so, i was just wondering if there were any tricks i can do to improve reception such as flashing a diffrent radio version?
thanks people..

Best Radio ROM for roaming?

My question is, when you are overseas using your local providers roaming options to still use your phone, should you use a radio that works best on the network in the country you are visiting or that works best on your home network?
I have tried 1.46.00.11 and 1.50.08.11 on my New Zealand Vodafone network and neither support incoming calls but other radio functionality works fine (also noted here). So I stick with good old trusty 1.38.00.11.
When I go to Japan next week I want this still to work so I am hesitant to put the "leading" radio in the poll on as I may not be able to receive calls.
I will be using SoftBank in Japan, but I will be receiving calls redirected from Vodafone. I'll take a couple of radio ROMS on my card to flash if need be while I'm over there, but I was curious if anyone knew exactly what the biggest influence is, your location and network, or the calling users location and network?
Hey Julz, off to Japan huh? Fascinating place, make sure you check out Akihabara if you are in Tokyo...
I was in Korea a month or so ago and could get my P3600 to connect to their 3G network (using the 1.38 radio), couldn't make any calls but that turned out to be a Vodafone problem. Seems that VFNZ don't have a roaming agreement for their 3G network...
So I'm guessing you should be ok with the 1.38 radio.
Only other place I've roamed with the P3600 so far has been Fiji, worked perfectly there with the 1.38 radio.
Thanks Ant
Yes, this will be visit number 4 and yes I love Akihabara!! Will see if I can pick up a dirt cheap 8GB MicroSDHC down the alleyways.
NZVF confirms their 3G agreements with a couple of Japanese carriers, so it sounds like I should be ok.
Just thought it was an interesting question to chuck into the mix regarding favourite Radio ROM's to see if people change their radio when travelling

[Q] Desire Z on T-mobile

So I finally got a replacement Desire Z after my last one was fried (see my other posts) probably from months of hardwork at high CPUs.
Problem is I'm in the US for a while now (and this is a Swiss phone). I have the stock Swisscom firmware on. ISTR it was a PITA to root and install CM on so I haven't yet bothered.
My question is this: using my tmobile simcard, the phone only gets EDGE. Suck. Please can someone tell me this *isn't* a hardware problem? If I flash CM or switch some funky setting will I get 3G / HSDPA speeds?
Thanks for any info.

[Q] HTC one x & some serious data speed problems

Hi,
I have looked everywhere for a solution with no luck
I just bought a htc one x from Singapore unlocked and unbranded, i live in Australia and i am having really slow data speeds on telstra next g.
Phone calls and txts are great, but speed tests are terrible! My latest results are
DL: 0.28kps UL 0.38kps to my nearest server.
So im just asking if there is any hope to rectify this problem like a different radio or rom, anything really.?
thanks guys

[Q] speed problems hspda

Hi guys,
Im having issues with connection speeds though hspda on my hand set (tmobile uk).
Im getting really really poor speeds, if i download something of dropbox it can take an age - yet if i download the same file from my wifes desire hd (virgin mobile - basically the same network just rebranded) she gets it very quickly.
i then tested a bit torrent file and never got past 5kBs on my phone but hers reached 97kBs and held. Mine would drop down to 500bs most of the time as well.
The signal strengths are the same and i have tested this in a quiet a few locations now and the results are consistant.
Also ive given up streaming tune in radio on my phone as it constantly drops and now use the wifes virgin desire hd as it working correctly with no drops.
My sim is now 11 or 12 years old now and im wondering if that could be the cause of the problems im having with connectivity.
Has anyone had bad speeds running an old if not ancient card like this?
Have they changed the design of the chips with the event of 3g?.
when i purchaced the original phone on the contract i dont think 3g was avalible then so im suspecting that could be the cause,
can anyone shed any light?
thanks
Your sim is so old? :O so you cut the sim to make it fit for the hox. Order a new one mate. Old ones mostly cause some trouble. You should be able to order a new sim from your provider for a few bucks or even for free. Try it out. And of course you can install speed test to see how the transfer is.
Gesendet von meinem HTC One X mit Tapatalk 2
thanks mate, ive just got a replacement free of charge, the speeds are 1000x better, only problem now is my imei number is no longer there and the phone wont show my phone number.
i think they were a bit suprised that it was working at all at the age the card was.
why do htcs always reset the home screens on sim change, blooming annoying!!.
just fixed everything, got the settings from tmobile and i now have imei number, phone number etc, and the phone running a lot better!! i cant understand how a sim card could make the phone run so badly, either way its had a new breath of life and running much better,
anyone that has an older sim get it changed, i think mine only supported 2.5g as i wasnt getting any speed above that.
thanks again

[Q] GSM radio fail?

Hello One X forum!
So I received a One X I bought secondhand from eBay today. It has problems though; although the phone accepted my sim card and makes calls, the mobile data isn't working. Admittedly, the reception isn't great around here, but even my very elderly HTC Legend can get GPRS (network only goes up to HSDPA anyway) data just fine. Also, while the wifi radio appears to work, it can't keep the signal even from just a few metres away from the router. The phone was originally bought in the UK, (which is where I am not) and appears to have been unlocked from T-Mobile. (I'm on Vodafone.)
Yes, before you ask, I checked if the phone is blacklisted or blocked, and it's not (though if anyone has another way to double-check if it's not blocked by T-Mobile specifically, I'd appreciate it). I don't think it has been rooted (UI looks like stock) and I don't know how to check if it is, or how to check the HBOOT or whatever either. It seems to be a GSM radio failure, which is probably why it was so cheap (of bloody course). Is there any way to fix it, or am I stuck with selling it as spares?
