[Q] Frequent Mobile Data Drops on CM11 Nightly (Especially After Ending Phone Calls) - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I have been using Cyanogenmod 11 Nightlies for my device for about as long as they have been out, so I know it is still a work in progress, and most of the issues I have faced have gone away as newer nightly builds have been released, so I have not reported any issues as of yet.
Within the last month or so, I have noticed a new issue. The mobile data has been randomly cutting out, allowing only emergency phone calls. It only goes out for about a minute or two, but it is still a huge inconvenience. It seems to happen randomly, except after I finish a phone call -- it almost always cuts out immediately after (very frustrating for when calls are dropped, because I need to wait a minute or two before I can call back).
Has anyone else experienced this or know of a fix? I just tried re-flashing the latest radio and that did not seem to help. I have also tried full system/data wipes as well and none of the Nightly builds for the last month or so have been able to fix it.
Thanks, everyone.

You need to flash any touchwiz rom in order reset your nvram.

Is that even possible? I thought there were issues with going from 4.4.x back to 4.3?
Also, how would I go about locating the latest stock firmware and flashing it? I haven't even thought about touching stock since flashing CM.

I can't find the original post, I don't have time to look for it right now, it was discussed frequently in Quantumroms thread. I needed to do this as I was experiencing the same issue. I restored the stock firmware on my device via samsungKise ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390147).

I will take your word for it. But I have read elsewhere that the MJB bootloader makes it impossible to downgrade, which after checking, is the one that I have installed.
I have done the research on how to install stock firmware. I am just a little hesitant to do so. Any re-assurances would be great.

Thanks for your help. I was able to flash stock 4.1.1 and then reinstall CM11. So far, looks like the mobile data issue has been resoled.

I'm having the same issue, would you mind giving a quick run through of what you did? I'm downloading the I747MVLUEMK5 firmware to flash in Odin right now. Don't want to do something I shouldn't.

I actually did not use Odin at all. I was able to find a thread that posted a 4.1.1 stock .zip, a .zip to keep root, and a .zip to keep custom recovery. (I have tried searching for the thread to share with you but am unable to find it). I was definitely over-thinking it. Just install the .zips from TWRP or CWM as you would any other custom ROM -- just make sure you do not have the 4.3 bootloader installed. That's it.
Sorry for the delayed response!

[Q] I think I may have jacked my phone up

I had previously tried to root my phone and decided to flash it back to factory. I downloaded last nights OTA 4.3 update and after it installed, now my ATT S3 SGHi1747 gets stuck at the ATT logo AFTER the Samsung logo appears then disappears. My pc is no longer recognizing the device nor do I know how to get in there to at least get it up and running to try and flash it back to factory THEN download 4.3.
Any suggestions on how to get this fixed would be appreciated!

ODIN back to stock.
Question
Did you try using ODIN or did you find a factory ROM to flash?

Try booting into recovery and factory resetting, this usually fixes this problem.

If you google for "odin flash rom" there's lot of good tutorials out there, many on this forum alone. As for stock, i'm not sure where to find it since I flashed custom the day after I got my phone and never looked back...can't stand stock touchwiz. You could also try flashing any custom ROM you happen to have layin around...worth a shot until you find a custom one. I use BeanStalk ROM, which has 4.3 and 4.4 versions out now.
Best of luck to ya!

I suggest here that everyone here read some of the other threads here on XDA, and see all the problems people are having flashing and rooting after taking this latest 4.3 OTA before advising the next person on how to make ANOTHER paper weight.
As for Sider,
You might be out of luck here, as there is no official 4.3 firmware yet available to flash back to stock, and also AT&T has done something with the new software update, where trying to downgrade it back to a previous version is going to either fail or brick phones.
Also, I haven't read yet where anyone has been successful flashing a custom recovery to fix any issues, but the posts are going up so fast right now that I might have easily missed it.
Edit: OK, someone was able to get TWRP installed, but is also having issues with root.

You're right. I completely forgot about that.

Wifi speed half of what it used to be (Ditto Note 3)

Before flashing DN3 I was on 4.3 and got ~24mbps/15mbps.
Now I hardly get 14/15. Seems the upload is not affected. The connection itself is 30/20 and I'm getting that speed on other devices (laptop, PC).
How would I go about fixing this issue?
Thanks!
EDIT: I now noticed that ping is also 10-15 higher than on other devices.

Well firstly the most obvious thing to do is to try and count out the rom as problem or identify it as the problem. Have you tried other roms yet or just assuming its the rom??
Flash back to previous rom see if you have same problem. Also try some others as well.
If it's only the DN3 rom then use the search box and search the DN3 thread and if you cant find any reports/discussions reply to the topic see if anybody knows issue/solution.

I've tried 4.4.2 stock and it was the same, however 4.3 is still about 20% faster and seems more stable...
Anything I can do to make it as fast as 4.3 while I'm on 4.4.2?

I used the baltic (SEB) firmware, but it was one flashable file, and I have no idea how to extract the modem from it. Kinda scared to brick the device, too, so I'd rather not do anything without guidance

note 3 running 4.4.4 issues

ok guys, i have a question for you. keep in mind that im new to the phone world lol. ok so a bout a month ago i wanted to unroot my phone but for some reason the tar files on sammobile wasnt working right. so i came on here and downloaded what i believed to be the file that i needed to go back to stock. after i used odin and the phone rebooted it automatically notified me that i had a update. after i accepted the update and it rebooted, it again notified me that i have yet another update. so after this happened i noticed that my phone was updated to 4.4.4 kitkat which would be great exept for the fact that it keeps freezing and when i am on wifi i have a problem getting phone calls aswell as text messages. also when i disconnect from wifi i have to restart the phone to get any data back. is there anything that i can do? is it possible to go back to 4.3 or even 4.2.2? any help would be very much appreciated.

Hello! Did you make a back up of your phone before you started the update? That would be the easiest way to go back to how it was. If you used Odin and didn't install a recovery like TWRP or Clockwork you may not have done so. I believe you can reload from Odin with an older ROM it will just erase everything you did. There are stock ROMS here at XDA and galaxynote3root.com as well. Let me know it this helps, sorry for your troubles.

I'm actually surprised that you did get an update to 4.4.4... You could try going back to NF9. The safest route I see that you can take is to install a custom recovery and make a backup before doing this. If you odin NF9 and it doesn't boot then you're kinda screwed because we technically don't have the 4.4.4 update yet, so if anything goes wrong, you can install a recovery again and restore the 4.4.4 backup.

You can get the latest TWRP recovery here : http://www.techerrata.com/file/twrp2/hltetmo/openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.0-hltetmo-4.4.img.tar
Just odin that and after it's done, go into recovery by doing Vol down + Home and do a backup either in your internal or external storage. After that finishes, you can go back in download mode and odin NF9.

No wifi
I love love love this ROM, it's incredibly fast, I've got the debloated version. But I have no wifi on it. The wifi stays off and when I try to turn it on it flips right back to off again. Any suggestions? I wiped, cache, dalvik, everything before and after and reinstalled once. Will reinstall again.
I'm using TWRP vs CWM-would that make a difference?

I had tried several, but wipe completely each time. It might've been one of the Lollipops right before. I wondered if it had anything to do with the kernal? I don't know much about that aspect of it.

Yes kernel controls hardware related things including wifi if I'm not mistaken. Which kernel are you using? The stock kernel included with the rom or a custom kernel?

I didn't ever specifically change kernels (if that's possible). I just installed 4 or 5 different ROMs over the course of the past few wks to see which I liked. I made back ups of my original stock/rooted ROM and several that I liked. I've got SlimKat ROM on here now, would it do any good for me to go into settings and see which kernel it is? Probably not, I suspect.

Ok cool thanks. Really not sure what the wifi issue on your setup might be. Works fine here and for other users as far as I see. I did a quick Google searche and the top solutions seem to be a factory reset, the "wifi fixer" app in the Play Store, or possibly trying different settings/channels/reboot on your router. If nothing works, then it might be because something got corrupted in the base over time by flashing different TW/AOSP ROMs, in which case it might be worthwhile to Odin stock firmware from sammobile and then install this rom and test. Might be more hassle for you than it's worth (especially if your other ROMs already work fine), but just trying to provide options lol. You could also try Regular instead of Debloated to see if there is any difference in wifi for you there.

I appreciate your input very much! I love this rom. I've got it installed again messing around with it while the Regular version is downloading. (I'm bestowed with slow rural internet). I'll let you know if Regular works better. It's probably going to bug me enough as to why it doesn't work that I'll go to the trouble of going back to stock, re-downloading and trying it fresh

Enable Android Encryption
Has anyone been able to successfully enable android encryption using this rom? I tried with the Deodexed version, safe boot, turning off SuperSU and haven't been able to get it to start encrypting properly. I need it since I have policy looking for encrypted state before I can allow mail to be made available.

wifi won't turn on
Hi, I've flashed both the regular version and the debloated version on my N5110 after clean wipes.
The wifi will not turn on in either case.
I've done factory resets from within settings.
Any ideas?
I've read the thread, the Q&A thread, and done a google search to no avail....
I'm coming from stock 4.2.2 (rooted and unlocked of course) where everything worked... it just seemed to have a pretty short battery life.
I've reinstalled the nandroid backup and wifi still works there.
I'd really like to try this.
Thanks for your hard work as a developer by the way

Not sure...Works fine here but I saw another user report this a while back. The others said all working fine so I'm assuming something may have got corrupted on your setup along the way. Perhaps you can try using odin to flash the latest stock firmware for your device from sammobile.com, then try installing twrp through odin and finally my rom through twrp. Best way to eliminate variables and start fresh

Thanks for confirming! Yes flashing different roms can corrupt system files so a fresh odin install is always a good way to start clean. No issues here with the tablet shutting down..could possibly be due to a rogue app conflicting with something or an xposed module. As for battery life I agree. Not worse than stock but not better either. The built-in battery is now also probably less efficient than it used to be, as they all do over time. Sammy should have put a bigger battery in this tablet!

I did a battery pull and that help a great deal with the battery life . Also I don't think I have had the issue of shutting down maybe the rom needed to settle in lol. I don't know but all is well now thank you so much for this rom. My tablet isn't trash anymore.

Hello sefrcoko
my Note N5110 currently has the stock fw 4.2.2.
Once I have root and custom recovery, can I directly flash your rom?
Or I have to flash the stock fw 4.4.2 before your rom?
Thanks a lot
Bye

The best Kernel and Firmware?

I am currently stuck with a S4 (T-Mo.) and I have a bit of a problem. The phone with CM12 or any other ROM seems to have faulty problems. Videos cause me to freeze, I reboot at random, so I am wondering if it is something to do with the firmware or kernel. The phone is refurbrished, which I will never do again, trust me but I am unable to find any kernels, do they just come with the ROM's out there? I would like a 5.1.1 ROM, but every ROM I try has the exact same problems, freezing at random or rebooting. Right now my S4 is completely wiped, everything. I just need to know what to install and do, thank you for letting me know anything.
(There's just so much variety to choose from and I really don't know what will fix it.)
I think NK2 is the best currently but I am unaware, I got a S6 edge Plus and I am trying to fix this old phone for a family member.
I think the problem overall is my firmware, I know it is not NK2.

Is the "Full Firmware" link on that page containing the kernel and modem too? As in, does the firmware itself install the modem and kernel with it?

I haven't tried it myself but that's usually the case when you odin the full firmware you get it back to factory. Just thought it might be the best for you to start with a clean new setup.
Oh...and do check to make sure its an actual m919 and not something else that they flashed a m919 image. Happened to me once on a used phone turned out to be an i337m....

I also have S4 (T-Mo). Using CM12.1 my phone is (seems, and from much stress and use) STABLE. The ONLY issue I run into is Bluetooth "Unfortunately, Bluetooth share has stopped", and this is resolved by a reboot.
I am using OH3, and I recommend this or the newer OK3. I "think I remember" my phone being flaky connecting to LTE using NK2, and this is why I updated the baseband.
Good luck, and let us know your resolution.
