HDMI adapter compatible with SM-600 model? - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Accessories

Hi all, new user for galaxy note 10.1 2014 version.. thanks for the threads, very useful info..
As I have trouble finding the Samsung compatible adapter through amazon or ebay in the UK, should I assume that any 11 pin HDMI adapter is compatible? should I look for adapter for Galaxy note 3 or the Galaxy S3?
Thanks a lot!!

Look for the mhl 2.0 adapter from samsung. It's branded "for galaxy s4/s5". Just make sure it's mhl 2.0. I have it and it works very good, outputs 1080p/60fps and it works without connecting power.
looks like this: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ET-H10FAUWESTA

Thanks for the prompt response Clouds5..
I have trouble finding that specific adapter you posted.. even Samsung has run out ..
However, I find many cables with s/n ET-H10FAUWEGWW... The one you have posted is the ET-H10FAUWEGUJ.. Should I assume that these adapter are the same? I am in the uk, maybe this is s/n for the international market? Essentially anything in the ET-H10FAU family is the same, provided of course that it is branded as MHL 2.0 adapter and suitable for galaxy S4/5 as you point out?
Thanks..

Look at Amazon.uk for Samsung MHL 2.0 and pick a geniune one. Alot of fakes around and read the comments. Reak MHL 2.0 dont need power source and fakes ones needs.
ex might be real: (read comments)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-ET-...d=1397297202&sr=8-63&keywords=Samsung+MHL+2.0
Might be fake: (read comments, delivered from China = mostlty fakes)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Genuine-Sam...id=1397297537&sr=8-2&keywords=Samsung+MHL+2.0
I did bought a cheap MHL 2.0 from ebay, seller was from China and it did works for a while. It also needed powersource to work, after a while and aspect ratio become weird. So it was a fake one for 6 US only.
Decide to buy new one from mine country and it didnt needed any powersource connected to MHL 2.0 adapter. It was cheap, just 20 bucks deal back then and also described for Galaxy S5, even back then S5 wasnt even announced and lucky it was genuine from Samsung.
Real and fake have different weights too. There is a thread about real vs fakes MHL 2.0.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2412756
The fake from ebay I bought was indeed around 26 gram and real one with 20 bucks deal weights 42 gram.

Thank you dt33.. I have just ordered the adapter you pointed out - I had it already in my Amazon basket assuming that it is a genuine one..
I also read the thread about genuine/fakes.. looks like that unless it comes directly from Samsung, then it is a gamble..
I will test it, weight it and report back with the s/n.. hopefully it will help someone facing the same problem.
Thanks,
Achilleas

I bought this one per recommendation of another XDA user. Works as it should for now.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331104244157?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

All good
To complete the thread and potentially help future buyers from the UK....
I bought the Samsung ET-H10FAUWESTA which turned out to be the ET-H10FAUWEGWW... bottomline: all the genuine variations of the ET-H10FAU cable seems to work for our model.. and no need to be plugged in so all good..
Thanks all for the help.

the HDMI cable works without the wall plug.. just with the tablet's power..
if you use the wall plug then it will charge the tablet while the HDMI is used...Is this what you are asking?

Could you verify?

I have trying to find one that will charge the tablet at the same time you have the tablet connected to a monitor though an HDMI cable. Does the tablet (specifically, the Note 10.1 2014) show that it is in the charging mode when you are using this adapter with the wall plug? Thanks!

I have a HDMI adapter for my N7000 which I also use for my SM P-605 and it works just fine but does not charge my tablet while connected to my TV. After the kitkat update, (surprise! surprise!) it just decided to charge my tablet while connected to my TV.So probably it's a kernel thing.

Wait a second here. Are you saying that your tablet charges only through the mhl connector without being connected to the wall plug? If this is the case, it receives power through the hdmi cable?! This is really strange. I didn't know hdmi could offer the needed current for our tablet to charge!!! To be sincere I don't think this actually works. You probably need the wall plug to be connected to the mhl for it to actually charge the tablet.

It's connected to a wall plug of course, but before kitkat even with the " wall plug" connected it doesn't charges and now it does.

I doubt that'll work as it's not an MHL connector, which I understand is HDMI and USB combined, but if it somehow does... bargain!
Lol now i look properly its not going to work at all
imo very stupid not to use standard HDMI mini port... now we have to buy adapters and ****.. and the phone won't charge if you don't have special adapter.. epic fail imo.. anyway they should include adapters with the phone.
I agree, they should include the required cables and adapters in the box, other manufacturers like Nokia do with their flagship handsets.
I think MHL will ultimately be better than mini HDMI port though, since its looking very likely to become the next standard connection.
I'm hoping to get one of the MHL cable/adapters from the MHL consortium for my Clove Blog review, if I do then I will post up a youTube video for everyone. At the present time the consortium PR person is trying to procure one for me, but it seems likely its inordinately difficult, so remains to be seen whether I will have it in time for the review.
In the very least, you'd expect them to have manufactured and released the accessories by the time the actual phone is released.

First stock due mid-June just saying.
Can someone confirm for me that this is the same cable. They call it an Ethernet Micro-HDMI (Type D).
Edit: Monoprice[)0Tcom has them for like 5 bucks. I can give the link so you can see the cable once I get some more posts in here.
I'm not worried about the Ethernet part, it should not get in the way because the extra connections for it are female.
Also, there is a lot of great info on these forums. Look forward to sticking around and modding some phones in the future.
Edit 2: So when searching for the Samsung cable by Goog'ling the phone, they call it either "microUSB" or "HML port"
That site has two different types that they call: Mini-HDMI (Type C) and Micro-HDMI (Type D) the type C looks like the usual Samsung cable connection, I was just wondering if there is some different way they wired the Samsung cables so that we had to use those ones. I cannot see them doing that though since there are many devices switching to the same cable as well.
The trick is that standard HDMI so far does not include a link for power. The Samsung MHL adapter has a microUSB plug that connects into the phone and a microUSB jack to connect your charger, and the mini-HDMI jack to hook up to the TV so the device gets charged while playing back. In a future specification update, HDMI will probably be amended to include a power link.
Some info here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtwTcnR0hqA
Clove told me that the MHL cables from different manufacturers will be compatible which is useful to know. I guess they all conform to the standard

When I had my G2x with micro HDMI out, I bought all kines of cables to plug it into the TV from the comfort of my bed, and I really only used once or twice.
Maybe in the future I'll buy it but I think it will end up in my cable's cabinet.

How does this play out with USB host mode in Android?
Do I need another adapter for host mode? Or can I use this one while I also have HDMI out?
http://www.amazon.com/Menotek-Adapt...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1325341220&sr=1-1
This one seems to be "certified" for the Galaxy Nexus and also has a charging port to use while doing HDMI output. Does the Samsung adapter come with this?
I'm most certainly interesred but I want more details before shelling out money, even if it's small money
Edit: Looked at the video and I see the USB port there. Still though, how does this play wtih USB host? Do I even need an adapter for that?
Using the HDMI adapter and playing games with a controller can only be done with a bluetooth controller? Is there any way I can use HDMI and a USB PS3/360 controller?
(using the PS3 wireless is not a option for me i cannot get the app and phone to work together)

to ppl with questions, i got the official samsung gs2 mhl adapter. its 11$.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/230721222527?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
works wonders. i am 4.0.2 stock.
it uses full hdmi. 1$ on ebay.
it has a charging port, but it shows plugged in as usb charger even when plugged into the wall. it only draws enough power to power keep the charge constant, that is your battery does not go down, nor does it go up. and no, you cannot connect usb host when watching in mhl mode. would have been cool, but doesnt work.
One more thing, apparently THE PHONE HAS TO BE PLUGGED IN FOR THE MHL ADAPTER TO WORK. So, unless you plug in the charger, the mhl adater wont give output.
i hope i answered all questions.

Wow. So emulator+wifi+bluetooth+mhl= dead phone. 500ma is not enough to keep the GN floating.
Seems like a huge oversight on Google's part or perhaps it's just a MHL limitation. I know data does not work, which is why people have to use BT. But 500ma, what a joke.
Can anyone else confirm this?
Awesome video and post, thanks!!
Does the MHL to HDMI work with Android Movies? I know on my stock Transformer TF101 HDMI out is blocked in Movies. ...worked fine for Netflix and others though.
As far as battery is concerned. Would it be possible to program the screen to turn off when viewing in HDMI and still view it on the TV? seems like this would cut battery consumption dramatically. If not you could set the screen brightness to as low as possible.
Thanks man! Gonna buy this ASAP

Battery drain seems to be corroborated here too:

What a downer.
Great minds think alike though:

So it looks like the only option is to use some sort of dual charging situation where one charges the MHL adapter and the other charges the phone via pogo.
Perhaps the native HDMI doc allows AC charging? I guess we will have to wait and see.

You do not need root. All you need is the correct mhl adapter for the note 2 and make sure it's connected with the power adapter and it will work instantly. It's actually pretty cool.

you may need to get a 5pin to 11pin adapter. The GN2 has a 11pin port. And most HML adapters use 5pin ports.
No root required.

Monoprice HML stuff
And from what I've seen others post and seen on other sites, you'll going to spend in the $10 to $20US range for the equipment.
On a side note, I like that new cable monoprice has with both the mircoUSB and regular so you can plug into the phone and charger. That may actually not eat up juice or much of it In my setup, I run into the battery drain when doing WiFi tether and HML at the same time.
The video is something I did to show HML working and what not. I'm using the USB cable and charge that came with the phone. It's plugged into the monoprice HML adapter. The white thing adapter that is plugged into GN2 and HML adapter is plugged into is a 11pin to 5pin adapter.

would any of these adapters work? and i also just need the usb charging cable and an hdmi to hdmi cable right?
yes, they should work. Doesn't look like you need an 11pin adapter either.
Yes you will need a USB cable, USB charger and HDMI cable. You can just use the USB cable and charger that came with your phone. Just an FYI, the HML adapter will take some power to run, so your phone will charge while using, but not as quickly. Also, if you're doing power consuming things all at one on the phone, it's possible the phone will drain, just slower, like I have with I did that while running WiFi Tether.
I tried several "standard" MHL adapters, and the only one I could get to work was the Samsung OEM adapter. Can't speak for anyone else, but that adapter + standard HDMI cable works great.
You'll find it by searching for 'B00AG33VHU' on Amazon. (sorry, I can't post links yet)

Samsung mini usb to HDMI adaptor requiring power source

I recently bought a mini usb to HDMI adaptor (model number ET-H10FAU) from eBay and it seems to only work on my note 10.1 2014 edition when I'm using a power source (A mini usb cable to a plugged in ac adaptor.) Is this normal or is there something wrong with the adaptor? I was hoping that I could use the adaptor without such a power source.

I have ordered a 5 pin to 11 pin converter so i can use the MHL adpter I have with the new Note 10.1. I have used this MHL adapter with several phones and all required the power to be plugged it for it to work. The best way around this is with a Miracast receiver to mirror the device wirelessly. I bought the Rocketfish one from Best Buy a couple of months ago when it was on sale for $29.99.

According to Rocketfish's website, and the documentation about the device (It's on the link below) you don't need an external power source since the tablet connects to the device by way of a wireless connection. It does say that the device requires an HDTV with a USB port though, something my old cruddy HDTV I still have in my bedroom does not have (I would be using this device mostly upstairs.). Nevertheless I confirmed that if your tv doesn't have a USB port then you can use an AC adaptor to power the device. This Rocketfish device seems to be perfect. Having to use all these cables to connect my tablet to a tv is a real pain...

The Monoprice MHL adapter I have will not work on any device without external power hooked up to it. If you are using screen mirroring/ miracast for wireless display then you do not need power hooked up. The Rocketfish MiraCast receiver I have does require USB power while plugged into a TV's HDMI slot to function. Most TV's have a usb port for attaching a thumb drive or doing firmware updates and this will power the receiver. Hope this helps.

You can use a usb wall adapter for the usb power. Mine came with the small device, a short HDMI ext. cable, and the microusb power cable in the box. I have used several devices with the Miracast receiver. Be aware that most devices will require you to press the WPS button on the receiver the first time you connect it. I have used a Nexus 10, Nexus 7 (2013), Nvidia Shield, and a HTC Droid DNA with it and all work well. The Shield only required me to use the PIN number shown on the TV screen to connect, all the others required me to press the WPS button on the receiver to connect the first time. After connecting the first time all you have to go into settings on the android device to connect. You can move the receiver to a different TV and still reconnect without pressing the WPS button again. The only time you should have to repair the device is if you factory reset or install a different rom on the android device. Sorry for the long response just trying to give as much information as I know to help with your decision.

Not sure if you were asking about the Rocketfish one specifically...
I bought the OEM MHL 2.0 adapter on Amazon and can confirm that you can indeed connect to HDMI without any power source.
confirmation
I don't need the power cord plugged in on mine but I do need the 5 to 11 pin adapter in the micro usb port of the tablet to get it connected to my tv.
does any one know if this will work?

It should people have said the Note II compatible MHL adapters will work.
I bought one off of ebay
I bought the one below from ebay from seller nj-store and I can connect it with and without the power cord; However, it will it disconnect it by itself every 5-10 minutes regardless of whether or not it has the power connected. Has anyone tried the original Samsung MHL 2.0? If so does it require the power and also does it charge the Note while the power is connected? Cause the one I bought off of ebay does not charge the Note when the power is connected. I seen some original Samsung MHL 2.0 connectors on amazon like for $16.99 but most people think they received the MHL 1.0 because it requires power. Thanks.

I have the original Samsung MHL 2.0. I bought it on Amazon *from* Amazon. I paid more for it, but I wanted to ensure I was getting the genuine product... I've read a few reviews where people were getting the 1.0 (or worse yet, fakes) when buying from 3rd party sellers.
It does not require power to connect my Note II phone or Note 10.1 2014 tablet to a monitor or TV. When I do connect power, it charges both devices.
Thank for letting me know. Do you happen to have the link to the Amazon one? All I find is third parties and fulfilled by amazon. Thanks.
I just went to my Amazon account and clicked on my orders to get you a direct link... Amazon must now be out of stock on them. All I see are 3rd party vendors at the moment.

Can you post the model number of your adapter. I have gotten one suppose to be original and the model number is ET H10FAUWEGWW per the box, but the adapter itself does not have a model number but just a serial number and it says it is made in Korea. It does have this number on it KFC RE SEC ET H10FAUWE which I don't know what it is. The reason for my question is that it works well but it does not charge my note when my power adapter is attached to it. Thanks.

I'm traveling on business at the moment, so I don't have the box on me to confirm. However, I do know that the model number is ET-H10FAUWESTA - not the one you listed. I *can* confirm again that it does charge my devices as I'm currently using them in my hotel room.

Thanks for the reply. I will return the item and wait for Samsung or an authorize retailer to carry them. I have had too much bad luck buying from 3rd parties.

Just wanted to make sure about this adapter being able to charge the Note 2014 edition. I tried it on a galaxy S3 and S4 and it charge both but not the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014. It must need more power I guess cause I was using the Note 2014 edition original charger. Have you tried on the note 2014 edition?

MHL - AC vs USB Charging

Hey guys,
Bought a used HTC One due to BT connectivity problems with my SG4.
I have a requirement to use MHL daily and need an adapter that will allow "AC" chargiing mode. I am using the same charger as I did with my SG4 that did provide enough to actually charge the phone while using MHL.
The same usb charger running through my current MHL 1,0 adapter into my HTC one, will only put the phone into "USB" charging mode. This is not adequate and will probably force me to sell the phone off.
Here's the MHL adapter I am using:

Do you guys know of a MHL adapter for our phones that will allow AC charging mode?
I don't use mhl but a kernel that supports fast charging comes to mind.

What do u need mhl for anyways?
I have the rocket fish mhl cable. I have hooked it up to my tv to watch NFL Mobile plenty of times. I plug my phone AC wall charger into the MHL cable as well to keep the phone charged, however, the phones battery life does not increase. So say, my battery is at 75% and I plug my mhl cable into my phone into the tv and my 1 amp power charger from my wall into my mhl cable to charge my phone, even though I get the charge status, two hours later, three hours later, my phone is still hovering around 75%. I hear it takes a lot of power to run mhl cables from the htc one to a tv. I hope I helped you with any information that I provided.

Actually, some MHL adapters can charge the phone and do HDMI. Mine does.
I have a cheapo Samsung one.
Unless OP is referring to something different?
