[Q] Unlocking Default APNs to Edit - T-Mobile HTC One (M8)

Anyone have a solution on making the APNs editable? I'm looking to change the APN protocol to IPv4/IPv6 instead of the default IPv6 but the APN isn't editable and has a padlock next to it.

Go to setting in APN and create a new one then copy everything to the new one and replace what you want from there.

[Q] Switching between APNs

Suppose I need to synchronize email and access the intranet using APN#1 but all other accesses need to go through APN#2.
On WinMo, there was the option to automatically select a different APN for work or internet related access. MMS also went automatically via yet another APN.
How can this be done on Android 2.2?

[Q] Automatic APN switching? / Do I need to manually change APN while roaming?

Hi, I've just flashed the Android Revolution HD 3.3 rom and 12.41.60.19_26.06.04.14_M radio.
I noticed that I was not able to use data connection until I manually enter the APN for my network provider.
Back when I was using the stock rom, it used to load APN settings automatically when I put in the sim card (I have two sim card from different networks, when I switch the cards, the APN settings changes automatically). I was wondering if there's anyway to make this rom do the same thing?
If not, this is not a big problem when I'm in town, as I can enter both networks APN and choose them manually instead.
However, will I'll need to research into APN for other networks before I travel? What happens to the APN settings while I'm on roaming?
===
Edit: In case this matters: I am in Hong Kong, using CSL and 3.
Edit2: both provides are in the apns-conf.xml file, somehow the APN still aren't switching automatically

How to Flash ROM and keep same Data plan?

Hi Guys.
I'm trying to understand how to guarantee the same data plan after flashing a new rom. (Desire HD)
On Windows Mobile it meant having to write down and remember the Access Point and password and manually type that in the phone once you've flashed a new rom.
What should we do with Android or what are the only things to look out for?
Where is this info stored? Is it in the SIM Card? Is it to do with the Baseband version?
I'd really appreciate any info you know about this.
Thanks.
Most, if not all custom ROMs have a huge APN list that will default to your network.
You can find your details in Settings > Mobile Network > Access Point Settings, (Or something like that, I use MIUI so it may be a little different)
I wouldn't worry about having to backup yours as it will be in the APN list.
Thanks andyharney.
My APN isn't listed in CM7 which is the first rom I've tried.
It is also locked so I wasn't sure what it was.
With the app APN Backup & Restore we can save the APN details as an xml file to the SD card and then read that xml file or restore the APN from that file.
I'll pass that APN info to the CM team.
Cheers mate.

Docomo Arc adding APN failed (but I got a semi solution)

Dear all,
I have flahsed docomo's rom for the ARC on my HK branded ARC, and for some peculiar reasons, when I tried to add an APN for my provider, which has a different MCC and MNC, that APN will not save on the phone. If you used the default MCC and MNC as the Japanese APN's, it will stay there but as soon as you change those settings that particular APN will disappear.
Out of desperation I went to the market to see if there are any APN apps that can force save a setting. I thus downloaded APN manager and it worked for I can, through that app, choose the APN I wanted to use and it will work!
However, if you go to setting by pressing the menu button to see the list of APNs stored in your phone, the one that is saved using the APN manager will disappear and you have to redo it again... So you cant open the APN menu under network settings... very queer...
But at least I have a semi solution for now, and I have no idea why the docomo ROM runs smoother than the official HK 2.3.3.... But unfortunately, it is only a 2.3.2 ....

[Q] Editing MMS settings under a JB rom

First off my disclaimer -- I have searched the forums already for an answer, but can't find anything that I understand to be analogous to my problem. Also, I'm kind of a noob about this but I've been a unix/Linux sysadmin for 20 years so I have some understanding of what's going on at the Android operating system level; just not the CDMA piece yet.
So here's what I have:
I flashed my E4G over from Sprint to Boost using the Incognito method. Changed the MMSC URL through the dialer with my SPC. Voila! Everything works great.
Except that I'm on FC09 Gingerbread and it's boring.
SO... I root the easy way by flashing that pre-rooted FC09 BML image that's floating around here and install CWM recovery. Easy. Everything's cool.
Then, I wipe everything three times (no, I'm not anal retentive or obsessive-compulsive) and flash the Carbon JB rom from recovery.
Flash works perfectly and now I have TWRP for recovery, which is very convenient, though I gotta give props to the ClockworkMod team, they have knocked down a thousand walls.
BUT--- My MMS stopped working because the mm.myboostmobile.com MMSC URL was overwritten with the one that was baked into the ROM (I guess from the romdev's phone that was used to make the image). Anyway, Now that I'm on a Jelly Bean rom, I can't just use the *#*#DATA#*#* dialer code and my SPC to edit the setting back to Boost because I get that damned MODEM EXCEPTION error (which I think is related to permissions changes under ICS and JB that weren't there in FC09 Gingerbread).
I bought an APN manager off the play store and did a backup of my APNs under the working stock setup, but of COURSE, the damn thing doesn't work under ICS or JB so I wasted my money there. AND, APN Backup and Restore from the play store doesn't work properly either, although I can't rule out the possibility that the APN backup I took under working FC09 was no good.
So, my questions are these:
Is it possible to manually edit the appropriate APN settings under a Jelly Bean based ROM back to boost? I'm assuming there's some xml file somewhere that holds all this stuff that I could just vi ? I know I just need to null out the proxy and port values and switch the MMSC url back to mm.myboostmobile.com right? So where is the file and if there's an easier way to do this, can you give me a pointer?
Thanks! I really don't want to be stuck on Gingerbread just to be able to drunk-text dong shots to my boss at 2am.
SOLVED!
UPDATE: ok, a few more hours of archeology and I figured out how to get the right MMSC URL poked in there. It was an inelegant hack:
1). After moving APN Backup and Restore (play store) to my system folder with system/app/mover (also from the play store), I backed up my APNs.
2). I copied the backup XML file onto my PC and edited it with vi to change the MMSC field in each of the 15 APNs stored in the file to "mm.boostmobile.com" THIS IS PROBABLY OVERKILL and I might have broken something else I don't know yet by doing this
3). Copied the edited file back to the APNBackupRestore folder on my phone's SD card
4). I used APN Backup and Restore to delete all my APNs then entered the dialer code to view my MMSC URL, it gave a FC error --I knew it was empty now.
5). Rebooted into TWRP (CWM would work the same way) and wiped cache, Dalvik, then fixed permissions for the hell of it
6). Reboot into system, restore my edited backup APN file using APN Backup and Restore
7). Reboot again
8). Re-enter the dialer code (*#*#3282#*#*) and view my MMSC URL: Voila! "mm.myboostmobile.com" is in there now
9). texted a close-up of my big toe to my wife at her work and received a reply txt with a close-up of her left nostril: SUCCESS!
Now MMS and 3g (on rev a8) are working just fine on CarbonRom. Hope this helps someone.
