[Q] Need Help: Google Nexus Prime - ICS (IMM76B) to JB - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Folks,
Look at this screenshot attached.
I am an ex-googler and seems that when i was using this phone (Google Nexus Prime, i9250 or Nexus3 as they say) I was using internal (Google internal) upgrades. But probably I left the company while I was having an interim build and since then could not move to latest ICS or JB.
Hope fully you got the issue. Could you please guide me on how could I get to the latest android without hassles? (my current build IMM76B is probably not known outside Google)
Help please.
Regards,
Ankit

I gave up with OTA's takes too long. I usually just wait until someone has a stock update zip and just do that. Im on 4.0.4 now and so far so good! Hope that helps.
Please refer to my post here and it'll answer your question
You could wait but that would be an indefinite timeframe OR you could just flash the stock yakju images (I'm not sure if you can do this if you are using CDMA though). If you're on a CDMA network, you might have to wait for your carrier to update it.
Hey man. This "Problem" has been fixed a few times already around the forums here.
You will most likely have the "samsung-updated" version of the galaxy nexus. I had that to.
There are a few types of Stock Roms on the Galaxy nexus right now.
- The stock ROM powered and updated by google (also known as Galaxy Nexus with yakju builds)
- Other ROMS that are powered and updated by Samsung or your cellphone provider
This basically means that you live in a place were not all functions accessible to Android are available (government rules) or you got a phone from such a batch by accident.
- What you need to do is unlock your OEM (you can re-lock it after the change to keep your warranty).
- Wipe your complete phone so it can become a dev phone (the OEM unlock) your phone does this by itself on unlock.
- Flash an official ROM from Galaxy Nexus itself.
- Re-lock the OEM again (or not. I have it unlocked and my phone still works)
- update if you haven't flashed the newest version (normal updates).
Your phone will be a Google Powered phone after that!
Here the instructions on how to do it:

Hello:
Thanks for the info. I have a google nexus phone with the problems described in this thread. I have a question before I try to go through the steps outlined in the instructions. When you say "Your phone will be a Google Powered phone after that", does that mean that the google nexus phone will be able to get updates over the air and become like google nexus phones from the play store.
Any info on this will be appreciated.
Again thanks.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus slow when less than 3GB free

Hello XDA forum!
I think that this is my first post and I hope that this is the right place to post it.
I bought a Galaxy Nexus three weeks ago: 16GB Maguro, Takjuxw 4.0 updated to 4.1.1 right after having opened the box.
I am having the same issue as the Nexus 7 owners: when the free storage space gets under 3GB, the write speed goes down to 10kb/s (yes, you are reading it right). Of course the phone becomes unusable if you're using any app that uses a disk cache: Maps, Chrome, Twitter, Facebook, basically almost every app has a cache.
The only way to fix this issue is to factory reset your phone.
Yes, removing your media files to restore the free space is not gonna work (I already tried this and so every Nexus 7 owner did).
My phone is not rooted and it's running a stock firmware. I recently converted my phone from Takjuxw 4.1.1 to Takju 4.2 stock, but the bug was not solved at all by this release (I loaded it up with songs and I had to factory reset it again - just 2,5GB were free).
There is actually a post on Google Forums regarding this issue (sorry, new user, I cannot post links yet) but they only talk about the Nexus 7 while I want to let Google know about the Galaxy Nexus too.
So, dear XDA GNex owners...Are you having a similar issue?
If you DON'T have this issue AND your free space is about 1-2GB:
- What hardware revision do you have? (Maguro? Other?)
- Which version of Android are you running? (4.0.1 - 4.1.1 - 4.1.2 - 4.2 - Other)
- Are you running any particular custom ROM?
- Was your phone NOT filled using the USB cable (eg. your storage is made of film/songs you downloaded using wifi/bluetooth).
- Which operating system are you using? (Maybe MS Win and the OSX app are treated differently by the phone)
- Are you using a firmware mod on a Maguro revision?
If you do have this issue:
- Did you try to clear the Dalvik cache? If so, how? (CWM or stock recovery?)
- Are you using ADW Launcher EX?
- Again, list your hardware revision and OS version - Mine is Maguro, takju 4.2 but I had a takjuxw 4.1.1 when I bought the phone.
- Did you have this issue by rewriting big files a lot of times (example: you have 8GB free and you loaded and then deleted movies with a size of 1,2GB more than 6 times)
The phone has been around for more than a year and it's very strange that nobody had this bug until now, so I want to know about Verizon users too.
I think that this has to be related to the phone internal memory not being TRIM-ed correctly 'cause other Android handsets do not seem to have this bug. Strangely, when you reset the phone, it just works, so it seems file-system related more than TRIM related or factory reset actually uses TRIM to format the partition.
Please, report anything that could be of help to spot what is causing the issue.
I love this phone, if you love it too, post here your experience.
Cheers,
Stefano

- I've got a maguro phone
- running on Kalo v5.0 android version 4.2 (going to update soon to version 5.1^^)
- No specific firmware mod is running at the moment
- No my phone is completly filled using the USB cable
- I'm in use of Windows 7, I don't think this affects your writing on the phone. Maybe try on another computer if you think this can be the problem, and report back?
- No firmware mod on a magura revision in use.
I do hope your problem will be solved soon.

Sorry, I forgot to specify custom Rom instead of firmware mod. Can you please tell me how much free storage space do you have left?

Maguro, stock 4.2 rooted.
The phone does get a little slow when storage gets low, but it's definitely much faster than 10kb/s. My storage gets filled from the camera app by taking videos. I have a Windows PC from which I sometimes transfer some data.
I never had this problem with any version of Android. (Beginning from 4.0.1 ICS)

How do I update my Nexus through the computer?

Hello everybody,
I own a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and since the 4.2 Android update was available I checked my updates and it doesn't show up where my friend's nexus 4 got it immidiately.
My question is, what's the potentional causes of this, and could updating from the computer solve this (also how do we update from the PC, I am really new to the Android world) ?
Thanks a lot.
Follow this guide.
Note that if you have the Verizon version there's no official 4.2 available as of yet, head over the development section to grab a 4.2 ROM instead.

If you have the VZW nexus, you won't get it. It has already been pushed out to the other ones.
Actually, this guide is the one to update incrementally with: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419170.
Also, you could adb sideload your update, if you're fully stock, google it from android police, i believe...

Help a novice please - have ROOTED Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 (SM-T320) - Update?

I just received a used Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 (SM-T320) - and discovered (not known to me before purchase) it is Rooted.
When I went to do an Update via standard Settings>about Device - it refused returning tablet modified.
also it had the App SuperSU (free) installed) which asked about permission on a couple of Apps I used.
I have absolutely no experience of Rooted tablets,
and currently have no idea how the tablet was rooted, and what with.
So I am seeking your patience and some advice about this, please.
Is there a way to return to the Stock installation?
If so, how to I check that this is possible?
Or should I keep the Root?
If so, how do I update the tablet?
eg: how do I check what, or if any, custom ROM has been installed?
or
which custom ROM do people advise I install?
Thanks for any advice.
Vincent
Just back up your valuable data and storage contents and flash stock via Odin. And I believe at this time point the updates are not of much importance, so if you're on KitKat you might as well ignore that if you can't spare time for backups.

Thanks for the reply.
Funny that was starting to be my take too.
Either leave it rooted as is - since it really is just KitKat 4.4.2 - but with more ability.
Or later when the spirit moves perhaps upgrade via a custom rom.
Thank you.

@vincent. I have the same tablet as you and I prefer to run the latest OS which is Marshmallow. As you state you are already rooted so you might as well try out a custom ROM. I recommend Resurrection Remix ROM by Vasumit and the XDA thread can be found here. Latest update to ROM is here. You will also need to install gapps. I recommend Banks Dynamic Gapps 6.X.X found here. Give it a try, I'm sure you will like it. ROM is buttery smooth and Vasumit updates it often. :good::good:

Thank you so much for your encouragement and suggestion.
Even though I have used Android on tablets and phones for years -
I am still a n00b when it comes to Root and Custom ROMs
I have heard of the more famous ROMs like CyanogenMod etc -
what makes Resurrection Remix ROM by Vasumit better than CyanogenMod
in terms of features and/or support please?
How easy (or not) are custom ROMs to undo?
Many thanks,

Personal opinion below: most AOSP-based ROMs have equal or slightly better support than CM because the team behind them is much smaller, but they might die out one day because of the same reason. CM maintains a huge number of devices and is the basis of many, so it's not likely to disappear soon. Also, CM is usually among the quickest to get to a new Android version while others usually sync from CM and start from there.
As of features, others are guaranteed to have more than CM. CM doesn't like adding features these days.

Do: Flash TWRP, make a full backup of your stock ROM, full wipe and flash the new one.
Undo: Full wipe and restore the old backup, or if you decide you don't want your data, use Odin.

really appreciate all the help I am getting here, thank you.

Hey!
you could look at it this way, most of the people here have a hard time just ulocking the device and rooting it, not that yours is already done, might as well right. along with the proper research, your device could be one hundred times better, the stock OS of the tablet isn't that good (lets face it.) and with the current technology, it will have a hard time keeping up because the OS for this device is not that efficient (personal opinion). Anyways, it's still up to you to do it or not. Cyanogenmod has released the nightly version of Marshmallow 6.0 for this device. maybe you could check it out!! ^_^

Yes, thanks for the encouragement.
Seems ironic that I had done lots of look-sees (not quite research, but close) about rooting devices - and I actually now have one
(it was just unexpected on this Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 (SM-T320)).
As you see I've decided to keep it rooted and am actively looking at which ROM to flash -
currently I am leaning toward the more conservative approach of doing the CM (CyanogenMod)
and rather than deciding between the snapshot CM-12.1 or the nightly CM-13.0....
perhaps I should just wait for a snapshot CM-13.0
(" and we’ll have a quality approved SNAPSHOT for CM13 sometime Jan." of course it is now Feb - so maybe soon?)
Thanks,

Don't wait for snapshots - they are just forked from nightlies at a certain timepoint and aren't more stable than nightlies. Just backup and flash a nightly, and if anything you feel unstable, restore the backup and/or wait for that to get resolved. I personally don't see anything disturbing aside from wonky external SD support (which is a universal bug across all 6.0+ ROMs).
P.S. The "Thanks" button is there - use it

The issue is mainly with how to use SD card as external storage (as on older Android versions), not with the new "adoptable storage" feature. That we don't have a definitive solution yet.
You might want to read through the last pages of the CM13 discussion thread in Development subforum if you're determined to get it working.

Lineage downloader can't connect

Dear reader,
since a couple of days my device (samsung S7: SM-G930F) is running low on battery really quick. So I thought; it has been a while since my device asked me to update the new Lineage version. So I gave the app the instruction to look for updates, and it gave me the following notification.
Can't connect to download site. Please retry later.
When actually
You device is supported by the lineageOS team, but there are no versions that support this type of publication: Nightly. (this is translated from Dutch, so actual English sentece might be different).
Switching to Snapshot instead of Nightly in the Settings didn't help.
Then when searching again for updates it gave me the message:
No source file
Request for file: lineage-14.1-20181124-nightly-herolte-signed.zip To reconstruct the last update, the zip of the app should actually be installed. Do you want to select this file manually from storage, or download the last full zip-version?
When I press: download full zip-file it gives the following:
Error during implementation. Try to refresh.
When I click on select file (from storage), and select lineage-14.1-20180927-nightly-herolte-signed.zip, it gives me the message:
You should select the right source file. But I don't have that one on my storage; it's froma different date.
Can anyone help me please?
Kind regards,
Chris

S7 is no longer officially supported by lineageOS. You can search here in XDA for unofficial ROMs.
I have no big hope that a new ROM will really solve your battery issue. Most of the the success stories are a result of a clean ROM installation.

In addition to the outstanding information that @kurtn had provided...
There's no Official LineageOS Updater Apps on the Play Store.
The reason is that they have an implemented LineageOS Updater built into the Firmware and has no need to provide any such app separately from the firmware. That would just be counterproductive to the built in Updater.
The LineageOS Updater App(s) on the Play Store is via a 3rd party developer. I'm not stating that any/all of them are either good or bad but, individuals need to know that their Unofficial and is in no way supported by the Official Lineage Team Maintainers.
Just a few (so to speak) words of advice to keep in mind. I remember asking about them (quite a while ago) and those were the types of words/thoughts by @invisiblek and @haggertk (whose a part the Official Lineage Lead Maintainers).
No lectures here... Just some friendly information for you My Friend!
Good Luck!

Hi Kurt and Ibuprophen, thanks for your answers!
Now I have finally holiday and time to actually fix things it's time to continue this
So current situation;
Phone running out of battery within half a day without frequent using, apps crashing > update definitely required.
Phone model: Samsung S7 SM-930F
LineageOS version: 14.1-20181124-NIGHTLY-herolte (so last update is over a year old)
Android version 7.1.2
Options:
1. Just reset to factory settings? Most easy option, but I think it will have negative influence when I use the phone for another year?
2. I found this unoficcial ROM https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/development/beta-lineageos-16-0-s7-herolte-t3842465, however, it doesn't include instructions and it is very technical and it speaks of Android 9 as base, which I don't have; just 7.1.2. Would that be a problem?
3. Update to 15.1 instead if that is easier?
So what would be your advice? Please bear in mind that I am a technical noob and can only follow instructions that are extremely clear & correct
Until now I haven't found instructions I felt comfortable with unfortunately.
By the way my laptop has Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.2

Oh, looks like ivan does a good job. I think it is a good idea to install his rom.
But be aware: whatever it is, that eats your battery, it can come back.
Edit: be aware: from the threads it looks like 15.1 and 16.0 are not SELinux enforcing. So the gain of security is not as high as one would expect from security patch level. So you can try a factory reset of 14.1 as well.
Do you think there is an easy, technical-illiterates-friendly way to install this version of ivan? I am not that keen to have the highest possible security.
When I am emptying the phone anyway, it seems best to me to have the most recent version (if it doesn't matter that I have android 7.1 and not android 9).

Download the zip files for rom (and GApps if needed) boot into twrp wipe system, data and caches (not internal: there are your pictures and downliads etc)
Install: navigate to downloads folder select the zip file and hipe it works.
If not: ask in the thread you linked.

Don't use that app. Use the procedures described in wiki.lineageOS.org
