Custom ROM? Or Wait and Pray? - LG Optimus G Pro

Hey guys I love the stock but I'm in the mood for something new. So I'm wondering what do people think? Should I flash a ROM and which are good? Or wait and pray the AT&T and LG release the update soon? The only problem I have is last time I had a cyanogen mod I had trouble updating when I used a back up so should I leave everything stock how it is or install a ROM?

Fear not. LG will release Kitkat for all of its G series, starting Q2. That's include G Pro, G flex, G pad, G Pro lite, and G.

HD2 is legendary. I still have mine and occasionally stop by the HD2 forums to check whats up... This phone is a different league but the likes of HD2 Dev support is too much to ask I guess.
I'm hearing only good things about the KK Roms, so they should now be no. 1 on any Flasher's list

For some people. Some think stock is better...and some like CM like myself......it's user preference. Stability or features ? That's what people choose sides for....oh the life of android:beer:

I love it I use to be an Apple fanboy had almost every one including the first one. I gave up when the 4s came out. I was like this is not the new hotness it's the old and busted shined up. WTF. Same **** different case. Swapped a guy my iPhone 4 for a Galaxy note GT N7000... and fell in love with the big screen and android.

Optimus g ?

Soo im going to my self a new device tomorow and got my eye on the optimus g and nexus 4
Wich one should i get???
On one hand i get all the latest and greatest and i like the stock android rather than lg's ui and with the optimus g i get LTE and an extra 16 gb of storage...
I also have some concernes... Ive seen complaints on the web about the optimus g overheating.. Any of you experiencing it ?
Lg ui gesture is the most fluid and smooth ui.far better than tw and sense.not so much bloat and most of those apps you will find them useful.we already have 4.2.2,with almost no bugs, but it can be a daily driver.i don't have heating problems and i'm a power user, runing this phone like crazy.didn't notice to get hotter than my previous devices.
The only advantage of n4 is the vanilla.but g is over n4 on every other aspect.better cpu, better camera, bigger storage, even microsd slot in some cases.
Of course the final call is yours.

A stock OG only has 4.1.2 at the moment. You can flash a custom rom after rooting and unlocking and get 4.2.2 though.
I may be wrong but before I flashed a 4.2 ROM yesterday, the last update put me up to 4.1.2.

So far I havent heard anything about it. If you do decide to flash a rom I reccomend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228880
I've been using it since yesterday morning and its been nothing but awesome. I'm sure you do know that unlocking bootloaders and rooting voids warranty so it is a use at your own risk method.

Hello guys! My second post!
Anyway i'm in the market for a new phone and have decided LG Optimus G(e975). All i want to know is that will i be able to update it to the latest softwares which keep releasing by google? What i want to know is that will people be making latest roms for the optimus g even till Dec 2014??
And if people stop making roms for the optimus g will i be able to port roms from the nexus 4 to optimus g using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2370873without any problems??
Thanx and pls reply asap

It's not possible to know that for sure. I doubt LG will update us to the latest version of android, honestly. Latest custom roms? Sure. Until Dec 2014? I'm not a psychic so I don't know haha
And in theory yes, you can port roms...but I don't know how so...

If you care so much about updates or a zillion of custom roms yeah.
If you want more storage, no on-screen buttons, LTE, better battery life, the possibilty to use a 100% LG Firmware with its fully functional gimmicks ( QSlide, etc. Might sound stupid but there's people that don't like AOSP ), you prefer the looks of the G, or simply you don't care about a zillion roms because you'll end up using a few at best, then not so much.
Also, I've had both phones on my hand and I don't know why ( because in theory they share the same display ) the Optimus G looked much sharper. Both were on stock, so I wonder if the N4 just has a ****ty calibration and needs a custom kernel to adjust it.
Thanks bro, I just change my rom once in 2 months or something like that but that rom had to be perfect..,

Petition to LG

We all know now about the up and coming Nexus 5, which LG is again the manufacturer. It will be launch (according to rumor) with the latest Android version 4.4 or was it 5(?) called KitKat.
The G2 is very much here. 4.2 out-of-the-box with all it's niceties.
Now we, GPro user/owner probably wondering what LG's instore for our neglected capable device. We're still on 4.1 and should be on 4.2 by now. And one could even ask if we could still see the light with 4.3, much more with KitKat.
Will a petition be of any help from GPro user to send LG a clear voice demanding support from them? Will they listen thinking that we're just small in number?
The GPro was my first LG (smart)phone and really have no idea how they are with support. Was LG notoriously sucks with updates?
Will a PETITION work?

Don't get your hopes too high, mate. They're making some really good phones, but unfortunately, they've chosen to stick to their "no update" policy. They've abandoned the Optimus G, just like they've abandoned other flagships before. The same's the case with the G Pro. As it's going to be with the G2, too. I've been really tempted by the G Pro (LG, in my opinion, have the best displays of the lot), but seeing their poor record of updates, it makes me think twice.

You didn't do too much research if you have to ask that. Combine LG's propensity to not release updates with AT&T's 6 month vetting process after its released and you can pretty much expect that nothing north of 4.2.2 will ever hit the G Pro. I'd assume once the G2 is out for 60 days there will be a 4.2.2 International G Pro update then maybe 90 days to 6 months later an AT&T update. By then no one will care and the device will have already been EOL'ed.
If you want a newer Android version on a non Nexus phone you're going to have to flash them with a ROM. Its a sad state of affairs for the Android eco-system but at least there's an upgrade path of some sort, even if its manual.
from what I know, LG has always been very very slow with update.
Better sit and wait for it. I don't think we will be forgotten.
Read this:
LG : Just like Samsung, LG hasn't issued any official release regarding updates but since Nexus 4 is getting one, it is safe to assume that others will follow suit. Remember Optimus G is very similar to Nexus 4 on the insides. The following LG devices may get updated soon.

There arn mucht different in JB. 4.2.2 its bugs with change files management. The 4.3 GE dont work w some games.

One of my favorite books ever is Harry Browne's How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World. In it, he talks about "direct actions" and "indirect actions." Direct actions involve doing something to get what you want. Indirect actions involve trying to change someone else's mind so they'll give you what you want. Direct actions are usually quicker, easier and more reliable.
This proposed petition is a perfect example of the difference. We can either spend a lot of time and effort putting together a petition hoping to change LG's mind in a month or two, or we can just root and flash on our own and have the newest OS (4.3) today.
5 cents, please.

Yeah, we're really making strides with such a small number of interested people. Now we just need a custom recovery and we can get working on rooted stock ROMs and CM.
that would be sweet, i think custom rom scene is what i love most about android, most of the times oem's overcharge their devices pointlessly or too much and this makes the experience not fluid as it should be

I have returned my g pad and got a refund. It seems to be all devices have the blue line issue so I think I shall wait until LG sort this out. You can't even notice it. And in comparison to the awful Tab 3 I'd rather be missing half my screen on this tablet than get that piece of crap.
As with every "issue" with consumer electronics, people always complain and make bigger deals out of everything, especially on forums. Yes there's a blue hint on the side of the screen occasionally, but unless you're looking for it (like most people try to do) you won't notice it. And even if you do it's not a big deal. It's not nearly as noticeable as light bleed.

[Q] Chances of LG updating the G Pro at all?

What do you guys think, will LG even update this phone anymore? to any version, or even another OTA value pack that will bring the cool updated features of the LG G2. The reason I'm asking is because I'm fine with stock right now, but I would love to have the speed boost of a newer version of android, that's the only thing keeping me from rooting and "Roming"? again if they still plan on updating this awesome phone than I have no reason to root and rom. What do you guys think?

If I'm honest, I'd say we MIGHT, slim chance MIGHT, see an update to 4.2. Or maybe just a Value Pack update to bring over some features of the G2.
The advertising for our device was botched, and LG even admitted to it. So, the popularity of this device, isn't as high as it should. I wouldn't expect another update, but then again, LG has surprised me before.

I don't see Lg updating the gpro specially with the Lg g X soon to be out for sell, which is exactly the same phone as the gpro spec wise. I hope Lg proves me wrong but for now Im planning on rooting my gpro rather soon. It's a shame the phone was only an at&t exclusive here in the states or else it would have been much more popular and had more support from at&t.
Is there good support for CM out there? Because of the missing sources I assume, because LG isn't releasing them, I guess.

Is there good support for CM out there? Because of the missing sources I assume, because LG isn't releasing them, I guess.

Yeah download DOT cyanogenmod DOT org/?device=e980&type= there is a stable release for CM 10.2 right now which is 4.3.1. and nightlies for CM 11 which is 4.4.2 or Kit Kat.
And can I flash them if they are not for my device anyway? Because the LG Optimus G Pro isn't supported yet is it?

Lonelyhornet could you give me the link again? Like a real link? Because I only get to to the CM-Installler. Is that right?

I don't have enough post under my belt to give out links just yet but try this
download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=e980&type=
just highlight it and than right click it than go to link
Another option, if you don't want to flash a custom rom: stock rom + root + xposed framework ☺

What can I do with this xposed-framework?

There is a leaked version on 4.2.2 China version floating around the forums, but it is way too buggy to try on other variants. We may see an official 4.2.2 update in the near future, but due to US carriers like AT&T who do like like pushing updates to phones that are not their flagship device, we may nit see that update. But, we can only hope and wait.

You can get certain features that are available in custom ROMs such as Nav bars, Advanced power menus, tweaks to the status bar, tweaks to lockscreen, you name it. Be careful though some of these won't be compatible so I suggest using the gravity box module. It has everything you may need
