[Q] Video Glasses compatible with the Nexus? - Nexus 7 (2013) Accessories

First, I'm not very well informed on the current state of the market for video glasses. It could very well be in the state it was a few years ago... Not very good. I was just curious as to the compatibility and availability of a decent set of video glasses for night time viewing. My lcd TV is downstairs and am interested in the possibility of video glasses for movies in bed. I use plex quite a lot and would hope that support for apps like plex and viewing would be fairly good. I do know I'd want an immersive experience. Does anything currently exist like this? If so, is there a product remotely affordable? We're talking no more than $250-$300. Just curious if anybody has any knowledge on this.

embedded projectors

not sure where to post this. so here goes clumsy.
would anyone want an embedded projector in their phone? giving you a HD 24" dia. in an office setting and in complete darkness maybe a 120"?
its only 7mm thick and not like the huge DLP projector samsung and TI is putting out in the market.
it should be coming out the end of next yr.
since 2008 MOT has had a working cell phone at WVGA and they should be getting the HD projector very soon.
any ideas for its use?
besides becoming the road rage weapon of choice.
microvision.com
for all you gamers here is the projector mounted on a gamer gun. intel and microvision are working on this.
just think of your games with this projector in your phone.

[Q] Want to buy A100 for Son

Looking to buy the Iconia Tab A100 for my son. I have an Asus transformer and i love it, but wanted to get him something smaller. This tab seems to be a nice one. I wanted to make sure of the following things.
1) Movies work (avi)
2) Netflix works (without root)
3) any good "kid type" case reccomendations?
Thanks for help
Hello friend! I will do my best to provide relevant answers to your questions!
1) Most movies do work! Even in resolutions of 720p and 1080p. Of course, not all video files are encoded correctly. There can be wide degrees of variation in quality between video files; trying to play a 1080p avi movie file with an extremely high bitrate (much like how MP3s are in 128 kilobytes per second(kbps), 192kbps, 256kbps, 320kbps etc) will cause stuttering and jittery playback. But the Tegra 2 platform can play 1080p content. Perhaps an SD card with high read speeds could remedy this (or using SD-Booster to bolster the read-ahead value of the SD card) but I am not certain, as I have not extensively tested this.
2) Netflix works, albeit a bit jittery in operation (i.e. browsing instant play selections) but video works great. Being rooted does not affect its operation.
3) I have not looked into kid-friendly accessories, but browsing Amazon's selection of A100 accessories may yield a nice prize.
And by the way, I am selling my own Iconia A100 tablet.
Cheers!
What about skype video, will this work?
Why are you selling? How Much?

Sorry mate, the tab has been sold already. I sold it because I found myself using it less and less after getting my shiny new Sensation.
Haven't tested sky video calling on it, so I cannot comment.
Cheers!
anyone else know if skype works on A100?

[APP] Splashtop HD on Nexus7

Anyone tried it out yet, or would be willing to try it out, or think it will work with the n7? If so, could this be the best option(?) for media for those with the 8gb model. I plan on trying it out when I get mine.

Yeah, I'm very interested in this also. Another reason I am not too worried about being limited to 8GB. It would be great if someone who has access to a Nexus 7 could test this out and share their experience with it, if not I will probably just buy it and check it out myself when I finally get mine. I'm interested to see how well it works for basic tasks, gaming, and watching videos/movies. My ultimate dream would be to stream my Xbox 360 games to a tablet like this, and play something like MW3 on the go.

I agree.. I downloaded PLEX and it's been keeping me looking for more.. I wonder if Splashtop HD will support JB and how long it will be discounted 8.99 (usually 19.99) in the play store.. I hope until the n7 delivers

Splash top HD is listed as not compatible with the nexus 7 but the regular splash top is. Also there's a splash top two coming out for android soon. I think I will get this with my credit but I want the kinks to be worked out first.
Anyone try it already?
I'll try loading up my backup from my tab when its comes next week

What's the difference between the HD version and the regular version? I can't really find anything on their website or from Play Store (other than "optimization" for Android 3.x or 4.x tablets).
As far as I can tell the regular splash top is designed for smaller screens.
I wouldn't mind buying this as long as it is still on sale when they have made it compatible

Afaik hd users will be getting free lifetime subscription to the new version when it comes out (at least they are doing that for ipad people). I got an email about it since I own the standard version. Seems like otherwise it's like 1.99 for the app and 9 dollars a year, which still isn't terrible.
i got the free version from amazon when it was the free app of the day!! cant wait to try it out
That's what I have. It works well and looks good to me streaming movies. That's one reason I was wondering what the HD added.

The non hd version is going to be upgraded to version 2
I have just bought it as it works on my phone as well
Will test it on the n7 later on

I just bought the THD version and I can't seem to get it to work on my Nexus 7. The regular HD version works great though. I emailed them regarding this. Anyone else tried the THD version?

I was curious to try it out but the hd version doesn't even show up in the play store on my n7
The regular version seems to work, THD gives me a black screen when trying to remote connect, I'm going to email support and see if there is something in the works, because I am unsure if I need to grab the THD version or the HD.

I'm also getting a black screen on my Nexus 7. It is connected because touches on the nexus translate to the comp, it's just not displaying the video on the Nexus screen.
I'd love for them to get the THD version working. Playing big PC games on smaller devices was always one of the most exciting potentials of Splashtop, and the fact that they support bluetooth controllers and special screen overlays in the THD version is awesome.
It's especially silly because the Tegra tablets they made this version for probably didn't sell at all, but here's the Nexus, which has the potential to sell a whole lot and it doesn't work on it. =(
If anyone gets a response from Splashtop please post it here.

I had emailed Splashtop about the fact that the Anywhere access for free is available for any of the Splashtop "vets", they said that the new feature is unavailable currently for Android, however "we will provide the original SPlashtop Android user the free AAP feature. Please stay tuned, it's coming soon!"
So I guess this means that v2 for HD will be compatible w/the N7? Because it's still listed as incompatible as of this posting...
so should i buy hd now or wait to its compatible? because i already have the normal splashtop from amazon.

(Q) Throttle data on some apps

Any of you guys know how to make Netflix use less data? I'm willing to loose picture quality I burned to much data watching Netflix.

On a computer go on Netflix and in your account settings you can change the stream quality

Ya, looking for even more control with just my phone either throttling via a firewall or a modified Netflix app, when I had spring I could steam Netflix but the image was extremely pixilated and low qualify based on network speed. Looking for a way to reproduce this effect.
I don't want to change image quality with other devices on Netflix, would really like to have WiFi on my phone return to regular pic quality

Is there HD playback?

Hey guys,
Just wanted to let everyone know that after purchasing the GN 10.1 2014, I have been absolutely loving the device. Yes there is a little lag here and there but this is a fantastic device. The one thing that I was very excited about was to watch HD movies on this gorgeous screen. Well come to find out when I entered into the Google play store to purchase a movie, the option for HD version had a note attached saying this device does not support HD playback. I wanted everyone to know this as I was unaware this high resolution screen was incapable of HD playback before I spent the $600.00.

The title of your post is deceiving, The tablet definitely Supports HD Playback, you can load your own videos in there and it will look amazing. Maybe play store just hasn't approved of HD for this tablet yet, You can try to get videos from Samsung Hub with the free $50 gift card

Thanks for the input and I have corrected the title. Where is the spec sheet or Some other info showing HD play back support?

The screen resolution is 2560x1600 which is much higher than HD (1920x1080). I don't think it'll say HD play back support explicitly on the spec sheet, but the CPU is more than capable of playing 1080p videos. I've been able to do it since I had my Galaxy S3. Also if you watch a video on youtube, it'll play HD videos. You can verify that it is HD by clicking on the action overflow button (3 dots) on a YouTube video and it'll say HD rather than just HQ.

It does say HD play back and record http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab/SM-P6000ZWYXAR-specs.
You can also go to Media hub and watch free HD Tv content.
just install a player like MX Player or BS Player and load your own movies on it. The device is easily capable of 1080p content.
So given all of that, does anybody know what specifically the issue is with the Play Store? Is it a restrictive policy issue due to licensing agreements or something similar, or have they just not entered the model number into some database that tells the system that this is a HD capable device?
