[Guide] Tech21 Impact Frame Custom Backplates - Nexus 5 Accessories

Being jealous of the Spigen custom backplates, I figured I'd try and get things going for the Tech21 Impact Frame cases. Thanks to the awesome folks at Tech21 providing the outline of the transparent section of their Impact Frame cases, I bring you GIMP project files with layer masks and all that already set up for you!
To download the template: Click here!
Making your backplate:
To use this, go download GIMP from http://www.gimp.org/downloads/, and open the file with it. I provide two layers for working on, named "Background" and "Image". You don't have to use both, but for the backplate I wanted, I needed something to fill in the gaps around my image. You can either click the little "eye" in the layers pane to hide whichever one you don't use, or just use the Image layer and make sure it covers the Background layer completely.
If you want a gray background behind the whole thing, enable the "Gray Fill" layer by clicking the empty spot in it's row in the layer pane, in the same column as the "eyes" for the other layers.
This template isn't perfect, but it turns out significantly better than the results I had trying to adapt the template for the Spigen cases.
Printing:
I had tons of issues printing with both GIMP and the Windows photo tools. I ended up using Irfanview to do it, and the results turned out beautifully. I did add a white background layer to the image before trying to print it, though, because the print preview kept showing a solid black background which I didn't want to pay for the ink for.

@Nadavi :
Whoa, nice device now !!!!
Could you make a little tutorial with pics to explain how to open trinity without issues please ?
The Guide to Paint your Trinity
Youll need Gray/Silver (any) Color - the same color they use to paint cars - to use with the air brush
youll need special 50% nail polish \ 50% coagulable stuff (get at your local carpenter) not regular nail polish - to use after you paint to keep it from peeling
An Airebrush, (used to paint on cars, walls , etc... very gentle tip)
Air Compressor:
to be continued...
continuted...
of course to dissasmble your trinity, it's 4 screws not very hard to do:
Work space:
Protect the parts that are not going to be painted:
Important: before you start painting you must scratch the current black color first, with grinding paper\Sand paper - very gentle one. it is the hardest part to do, so do this very gently.
Some results!!:

it took my friend about 11 hours to do this....
Enjoy.

Are there pictures concerning how to remove the inside of the phone? I mean how to get the buttons and the scrollwheel out of the frame. Some pictures of the inside after it had been taken out would be great.
hi.
the trinity and pictures are mine (im the "friend" of nadav) and i've just finished painting another trinity but now i did it in black.
its look like the original color /
thanks for the pics. i guess the warranty is lost if i remove the 4 screws, right?
do you really think i will do all this work without taking care of the warrenty label
for all they know i've done it externally with black paint and a brush.
well but how did you remove the void-sticker without breaking it? or do you have some void-stickers in your stock

Got a little bored of my Cappy so installed these CF Phantom Skinz - Post up your mod

Overall. Quality of this product is superb and installation was so easy.
Did it all in about 15 mins + finishing it off with a hair dryer on low heat and 6" away from phone while off to cure the phantom skinz.

They are kinda small. Gotta stretch it a bit when you put it on, and then use hair dryer to make it even better. There is a video instruction on the website. Just followed every step and turned out great.
This is pure sex in my eyes!!!!

The camera I took the pic with is kind of crappy as it isn't as detailed. Pictures don't do the justice. Looks way better in person.
It is also texturized. Not just an image print.
That looks very sweet! May have to look into getting something like this for my cappy! Nice work on the install
if you are in the carbon fiber mood, there is a site that specializes in the 3M film (now in 7 colors!)
http://www.carbonfiberfilm.com/blog/3m-carbon-fiber-di-noc-now-available-in-7-different-colors/
I had this same skin for a while.
It actually adds some grip to the otherwise slippery Captivate.
Also gives a small amount of protection.
Initially it is a lint magnet until the adhesive at the edges wears out. But then it looks really good.
For me it only had two downsides:
1. Eventually, it started to lift at a couple of spots.
2. Can't be transferred to another device (like a case can) if you need to replace your phone for some reason.

I note that they are $17.95+$4.50 shipping from NewEgg, but only $14 (not sure about shipping) if you order direct from DecalRUs.com.
Am I loosing it, or do they all cover the back AND the front of the screen? Wouldn't that make it a bit harder to use? I mean I'm sure you could just not apply the front decal, but then what's the point of making front decals?
***EDIT***
Although I must say some of the decals ARE really nice.
How would having them on the front make it harder to use?
** Oh you mean how the image is also on the screen? That's just a wallpaper they include so your screen matches your decal.

if you look at the picture, there is a little blurb in yellow saying "free matching background wallpaper, NO screen protector included"
so it only wraps around the front up until it hits the screen, but doesn't actually cover the glass

Ah THAT explains it. (Guess I am losing my mind) I'm at work on a crap monitor so it was kind of difficult to read the sideways yellow text.

I agree. I'm wondering if they would allow you to upload your own custom images for a custom skin, but i haven't been able to find anything like that, so i doubt it

Makes it pretty expensive, but it is possible.
I love the look of these skins, but I'm wary of putting one on in the long run, because I like certain cases and the look of the "naked" phone, not to mention the faceplate won't work with a screen protector. I was, however, interested about getting just the piece to go over the camera lens, because I figured an ebony camera bit on a red nexus would be a nice accent piece,
I contacted Toast through Facebook, completely sure I'd get a "Sorry, but we can't do individual camera pieces because.." They responded within a day, telling me they'd work it out. After ONE e-mail to them, they assured me they would sell me a single lens cover for $5(shipping included). I'll be getting that ebony piece, for sure.
I have to say, they're making a fantastic impression on me already.

Motorola's solution for back cracking with metal bands - picture

Hi,
I came across this interesting picture, where you can clearly see that the metal bands from Motorola have a plastic piece/adapter that fits inside the watch. Even the larger 23mm bands have this piece from what I can see, their first part is in fact narrower than 23mm and fits inside this adapter.

Let's hope they release the adapter separately so we aren't forced to buy the $80 band if we want a metal one
After looking at multiple photos, none are detailed enough, but it looks like the plastic adapter is actually a spacer since the metal band is much smaller where it connects with the watch itself...disappointing, in order to use this spacer, the leather bands would have to be changed to fit at the initial connections on the watch...narrow them down and then widen them out like the metal band.
is it just me or does the watch on the right look like its got some issues with the back?

Yes, it looks like hairline cracks are creeping around from the adapters...might be a reason there are no high detailed photos on the web.
Here's a High res of the watches. You can clearly see the spacer if you zoom in.

i've seen the spacer in the press release. here's the thing, unless there's some magic trickery holding that spacer in place, it's still putting pressure on the back. the spacer would basically occupy the entire space which means the back would effectively hold it in (or rather stable, since the pin is holding it in place).
i take it back. the spacer is formed with a lip "resting" against the back part. seems like they're using it as a buffer/spacer.
