Google Music Quality Setting on Tablet - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

While I wait for parts, I've been testing Google Music in the car on my Nexus 7 before installing it the dash. I noticed that the music quality is not very good, so I went into the settings to make sure it was set to High Quality, and surprise, there is no Music Quality setting in tablet mode!
Am I missing something? Does Google Music determine the quality based on the speed of the internet connection? I was tethering from my Nexus 5 over Bluetooth and found my speeds were pretty dismal (2 Mbps down when my T-Mobile LTE usually gives me around 30 Mbps).
Spotify lets me select the music quality in tablet mode, but I ditched them when they weren't handling notifications properly by ducking (they used to pause). They finally fixed the notifications, but they don't support the Chromecast, so I'm keeping Google Music until that happens.

I have a Nexus 7 Flo and it has a quality setting. It's the next setting below "Stream Via Wi-Fi Only" and is accessed by tapping the "Mobile Networks Stream Quality" setting.

Are you running stock 4.4.2? Are you forcing phone mode by any chance?

I'm running bruce2728's ROM right now but I had the setting in both the current ROM and the stock ROM.

Thought this might be useful for anyone considering updating.
So far, I have noticed that Sky Go Tablet doesn't work and from the Sky forums it appears that it doesn't work for any Nexus device that has 4.4.3

Oh, what a surprise. That dev has a history of doing idiotic version checks.

There was an update to MX Player that now works with 4.4.3
Did anyone else notice that Google Currents was in the 4.4.3 update? I know that google stopped supporting it a long time ago. It just seems odd that its still there even though it directs you to the play newsstand as it has been for a while.
I just notice battery usage (probably due to cpu usage) is significantly higher in certain games ( specifically from 30-40% to 60-70% on average)
Skype isn't working too well in video calls for me. The aspect ratio of the front facing camera is screwed up and makes my face look fat when the tablet's in portrait mode, and skinny in landscape mode. Also, if I send Skype to the background while in a call (using the back arrow) to do something else then it stops transmitting video from my tablet.
I'm having issues with the email client crashing. It's has crashed a few times on me since loading 4.4.3.

Bluetooth Song track info not displayed in Car Head unit[AVRCP][Nexus 5x][6.0.1]

Hi,
This is my experience with N5X while streaming music through bluetooth to my new Car (Ford Figo 2015 -India).
Play quality - Good so far
Connection Establishment - Good so far
Upload Contacts to Headunit - 100% works
Display song track info - Doesn't work
I have seen devices like LG G2 (5.0 android), Iphones (4,5s,6), Samsung Galaxy Young(cheapest samsung running Jelly bean) connect and stream music info while playing music.
However my older Nexus 4 and my new nexus 5x seems to be hitting roadblock.
Please correct me if i am wrong, but below are my points that could be the root cause of this issue
1. MP3 Players(AVRCP support)
I have tried almost all renowned Music players from Playstore. Tried all bluetooth assistance apps along with them still no luck.
2. Bluetooth Stack
N5x is not listed : https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/6048862?hl=en
AVRCP version is not up to date ?
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/nexus/_t1ufKwSqU8/76g7UPtwAQAJ
3. Bluedroid(previously BlueZ)
Bluedroid is still in its infancy and bluetooth stack not being upgraded, hence?
Please share your experience with N5X on Song track Info, maybe we could collate all information in this thread.
2016 Volkswagen Jetta with Nexus 5x here, track info displays over bluetooth when playing music files, haven't tested streaming audio or video. No special add-on apps or settings for bluetooth, using Shuttle+ as a music player.

No, that's all I've got.

Robin: Bluetooth volume either very quite or blasting loud, no middle ground

(fix at end of post)
Problem:
Hello, so this is my biggest annoyance with the Robin, which I have been using for about 6-8 months now (and recently FINALLY was upgraded to N).
My problem is that, with any bluetooth device (speakers, headset, car head unit), there are only two styles of volume. This is likely caused by Bluetooth absolute volume (or synchronized volume). I don't know how to disable this without root.
1-3 is VERY quiet, I can barely hear it at all.
4-10 is VERY LOUD, I can't even wear my headphones and listen to music.
I mean, 1-3 goes from like 1-2dB, and then 4-10 jumps straight to 90-120dB. There is no middle ground, and it doesn't help that every bluetooth device now pairs with the volume control, too. I can't set one setting on my phone and fine-tune the volume on my device like I used to be able to a year or two ago.
I would like to listen to music using my phone again, but this is making it impossible..... I don't want to root this phone as it's a work phone and the stock robin android is very good, so I won't be able to manually adjust volume settings (unless that no longer requires root)
Cheers!
Resolution:
Android N simply switched to absolute Bluetooth volume controls. In the past I only knew how to bypass this with root privileges, however my stock Robin OS now shows a new option in Dev options to manually disable Bluetooth absolute volume. Disabling this fixed all sound issues I was experiencing and increased the quality of bluetooth sound.

General Verizon 6 pro and Android 12

First off, I Love the phone. Hardware is great, Android 12 is mostly great but there are some weird things I've noticed that haven't really been an issue on previous phones pre-Android 12. I got rid of a OnePlus 8 pro for the Pixel 6 pro.
1: I have to use a Bluetooth to 3.5mm adapter (Bluetooth to auxillary input) on my car to Bluetooth to my stereo. Issue is, the adapter is ALWAYS on and when in range my phone is ALWAYS connected to that adapter. Android 12 gives you the option to quickly switch when you're playing music or watching a YouTube video in the volume slider menu but not say when you're playing a Facebook video, Instagram video or similar. The workaround has been to just completely disconnect Bluetooth which interferes with other devices like my Fitbit and such.

2: AOD doesn't come on when it's dark out. I usually get up at around 4am, and of course it's dark in my room. When it's pretty dark, not even pitch black AOD doesn't turn on. It's almost like the phone lacks a proximity sensor and relies souly on a light sensor for AOD. Another scenario was I was out with my family trick or treating tonight, in the suburbs where there was plenty of light and AOD still didn't come on when I pulled out the phone to check the time. Of course this isn't a huge issue, just an inconvenience
3: the lack of ability to set your own lock screen shortcuts. I don't use Google pay, nor do I control devices using the Google home app or shortcut.. it would be nice to set those to whatever I want. To add into that, I do have those both disabled but occasionally the Google home shortcut appears when I click the power button to turn the phone on. If I click it of and back on about 80% of the time it disappears.
I don't want anyone to take these as complaining, just thought maybe I'd chime in on some "issues" I've noticed.

Question [SM-S901U] How can i change the bluetooth bit & sample rates and turn on HD audio in the dev options?

It wont let me change these settings, regardless of if im connected to a bluetooth device or not. Do i need to have other settings enabled/disabled before i can change the audio settings under the developer options menu?
I have the U.S model with the Qualcomm snapdragon chipset, running android 12 and One UI 4.1, in case that's worth noting.
Im not sure if these will be of any use but just for reference heres 2 screenshots of the menus im unable to interact with.
All other bluetooth settings between "HD audio" and "Bluetooth Audio Codec LDAC:"
I'm unable to change, even though i can open the menus and none of the options appear to be grayed-out.
Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere. Im fairly new here and android 12 as well (most recent android version ive used in recent years is android 8.0 oreo). still learning my way around.
thanks in advance for any help, answers, etc.

tldr: I’m no help, but I can confirm some parts.
I’ve got a pair of Sony WF-1000XM3. As long as the headphones are connected, I can turn on and off the HD audio setting and switch between SBC and AAC (they don’t support better standards).
My old Bluetooth speaker and a Jabra Evolve 65 don't activate this settings, so it depends on the Bluetooth version and supported audio formats?

Yes I can confirm that, same here.
It's as simple as connecting a headset capable of this codecs/options.
I think generally the best option would be selected automatically.

You can only initiate the changes for HD codecs when the bluetooth device is connected. Example, With Sony linkbuds S, I can select LDAC Or AptX. Once configured, the codec activates every time you connect the BT device.
