I'm using folder mount but after I move the data to my sd card and try to link it, it just automatically reboots and doesn't establish a link. Anyone know why this is happening?

Could be kernel related and/or format related. Works fine with flars kernel and any sense rom with my exFAT-formatted SDcard, does not work so with GPE and flars GPE kernel on this SDcard.
Usually after installation FolderMount will do a check on your SDcard and offer you to reboot your device if changes are necessary. After reboot it should be good to go.
Else you should read here: Mounts2SD

At the beginning you select what folders you want moving to sdcard, you.can use the built in app analyser which shows what folders take the most space, also when you buy premium you can mount almost anything, I even mounted the full internal sdcard to the external but it's not recommended
No it does not format sdcard, the app also fixes android permission for 3rd party apps to write to external sd

Using flar2s kernel as well on AR HD 5.0. Formatted my sd card too and tried again still no go. Currently having a read of the linked thread you gave me. Additional info, I'm S ON and using a 64gb card.

Just to let you know using folder mount I've mounted my whole internal sdcard to my 64gb exfat uhs class 10 microsd card and its working flawlessly I copied a file to my internal sdcard and it actually saves it to the external card. So to some up, apps get installed on internal memory and all data that usually goes in the internal sdcard is actually moved to the external storage

How did you get it to mount the whole internal sd? I've been trying to get the whole internal mounted, and it just keeps saying the selected folder is the whole folder, please select sub directories and won't let me continue. Or did you do it for each separate sub directory.

[Q] What would be the default location of apps moved to SD card?

I've had this card in my rooted Droid 1 as well as a Archos 101 tablet and in both of those instances I've moved apps to SD as the internal storage on those is too small. Now that I'm going to be using this 16gb card exclusively on my rooted Evo 4G I have no reason to have space taken up by apps that won't be used or are on internal storage on this device. I want to find the folder and delete the contents to free up some space. I see one called /Android/data and another that is just /data both on the SD card. Either of these what I'm looking for? The former appears to have some older apps that I'm not using any longer but it also seems to have a couple that I'm currently using but haven't knowingly moved to SD card.
Thanks!

I'm not talking about the current location of all my current installed apps. I'm talking about the location of apps when we move them to the sd card. I wish to locate those folders from my previous devices and delete them as all of my current apps on this device are on the device and not moved to the SD card so anything on my SD card in the way of apps should be from previous devices.

android 2.2 uses the .android_secure folder on your sdcard. for the native apps2sd. if you are using some other kind they use a ext2 or ext3 partition on your sdcard. you will need gparted or linux to see this type.

So basically if I have 3rd party apps that were installed to SD card from another device I basically need to backup the files I need to keep and format the SD card in order to delete them?

You could do that, but first, were you using some other type of apps2sd? Not the android native one that started in version 2.2? Dark tremor or any other flashable or aftermarket apps2sd that uses a ext partition on your sdcard?

I would have used a combination of individually clicking 'Move to SD card' within some of the apps as well as SDMove (which I believe actually uses the same location as moving them within the apps themselves). I don't think I used anything else but I had that phone for 18mos so it's hard for me to remember for sure. On my current Evo I haven't moved any apps to the SD Card because there's much more room on the phone than my Droid 1 and I'm actually running into problems w/capacity on my external 16gb SD card. Hence the reason I'm trying to free up some more space from objects that are unnecessary.
Ok, so what you can do is just backup your music and pictures and whatever else that you know what it is and format the card. Then move everything back afterwards.

I was hoping to avoid a format but sounds like I may not have much of a choice. I need to back up pictures, Mp3's, Titanium backup, Clockwordmod and a couple other folders and reformat. I was hoping it would be easier to track down all the loose ends though.

Yea, what you could do is delete every folder on the root of the sdcard that you don't know what it is.

If you moved them just using the Move to SD card built into Froyo (including apps like SDMove that just help you do that), you shouldn't need to reformat. That's only if you set up an ext3 partition.
Mount the card and view it from the computer (or use a card reader) and delete .android_secure. The real folder is hidden when the card is mounted on the phone.

Move apps to SD
You can easily move your games to SD with "ES File Explorer"
but you need enable root acess to this application, so you can move all kind of data stored on your phone.
For non rooted phones, there are some applications that cant be moved to SD card
So the first step is obtain the root acess to your phone

Provided u got class 6 or above microSD.
If not, swapping will cause slow boot up of apps.
I think It will better if you can afford class 10 to swap between external and internal storage..

Hi,
I've just found in another forum: you have to flash this:
Kiiiiinda want someone else to try it first...
Don't install that fix listed on page 1, its for the S4.
I can write stuff to the SD using file explorers after rooting but I want to backup my apps to the SD using Titanium backup but I haven't found a way to do it.
SDfix doesn't work, when I tried to change the platform.xml file in the permissions folder as suggest here
http://winaero.com/blog/unlock-external-sd-card-writing-for-all-apps-in-android-4-4-kitkat/
it wouldn't let me save the damn file! Do I need to S-off my device to be able to save it. Has anyone else got any suggestions to get TB backing up to the SD card?
I am using folder mount on M8 available in the play store even mounted whole internal sd to ext sd

I believe you need root, and a kernel which allows write access to the system. Then you can use sdfix or edit the platform.xml file manually

HTC M8
SDFix on Google Play solves the KitKat external SD issue for HTC M8 provided that the phone is ROOTED and S-OFF. Beware of the latter condition , it caused me quite a headache.
For write permissions you dont need to be s-off this can be done with root ans s-on.Grant root access to es and this should fix kk sd card issues for you. Also you can flash @flar2 elementalx kernel. This kernel already disables kk read/write issues.

External storage files read only !!!

Are the removable storage (external sd-card) files like: .txt, .jpg, .mp3 supposed to be read-only!!!
When I look for details of one from above files with HTC file manager, it says that they're read-only while on M9 they're read-write ready.
Did you recently try to chmod your files on Linux?
Using CM12.1 on my SGH-T999
No, I haven't changed anything.
I had to enable write access from the root of the sd card using a file explorer, not sure if you need root for this (mine is rooted)

I'm pretty sure a Micro SD card doesn't have the slider... You're thinking of the adapter for the Micro SD card which does not go in any mobile android device because of its size.

Did you format it on your other Phone? I did format mine on 10 and got a message that it "can only work on this device". Maybe when put on another device it becomes a read only. Just thinking!!

I've tried different ways of formating :
On 10, on M9 & PC with the same result.
When I mount the card in M9 or M8 and I check the same files with HTC file manager they are read-write ready.
I think the problem is not the card itself but more in how 10 mount's it.
P.S. can someone check the files on your sd-card if they're read-only ?

Got this message from BubbleUPnP when I tried to select the SD for storage:
"The folder you picked is not writable.
Since Android KiKat, Google disabled the ability for apps to write to external SD cards. If you picked a folder on such SD card, the only way to circumvent it is to root your device and use an helper app to restore write permissions."
That said, Solid Explorer allows me to rw the SD directly w/o a helper app.

I read up on this a bit, and yeah on some of the newer phones (I don't know about the absolute newest though) you can read and write to the SD card, unless you modify system files (wouldn't recommend unless you have some developing experience) or just rooting the phone (in combination with a file manager with root access) in order to read and write to your SD card.
Using CM12.1 on my SGH-T999
Not planning to root for the moment, but still finding strange that same file on M9 is read-write ready.
I use Fx fileexplorer and you can make the SD card rw with that program
