Bluetooth GPS - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" Accessories

Anybody know if it's possible to hook up a stock unrooted KF HDX 8.9 to a bluetooth GPS receiver?
I found an app that offers the software portion of a connection... But I am not sure if the BT supports such a connection?

I know this is a old post but I thought I would post my findings. I don't think it will work without root. I had trouble at first using it on my HDX until I flashed Nexus HDX rom. Then I was able to use Bluetooth GPS app to connect to my garmin bluetooth receiver and everything seemed to work. This is after I enabled mock location in development option. In the stock HDX rom I was able to get it working with a sql editor, changing a value but google maps wouldn't recognize my receiver until I changed to Nexus Rom. However I tried mapquest and other 3rd party apps and they seemed to work on the stock rom.

Thanks for the information, very interesting... currently playing with the Sangria update so may have to wait a while until Root is available again!
at least there is a native Maps application now!

[Q] GPS on kindle fire?

Will GPS work on kindle fire if I use otg cable and GPS adapter?
I've been trying to find this out myself
The only GPS to Kindle functionality I've seen is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362472
Hope this helps in some way!
You can get network GPS if you use the modaco rom or gederom and you can use the method used above to tether a phone to get real GPS.

[Q] Personal Hotspot?

Just wondering, is there any app or Rom that let's me host a hotspot even if I don't have 3g or wifi connection? I have heard that you can do this on the S3, so can we do it on the Fire? Does it even have the necessary hardware?

You want to use your kindle fire as a personal hotspot?
The S3 can share its Internet from its data connection.
The fire had no data connection (absent WiFi)
This not possible if I understand you correctly (which I had trouble understanding what your asking)

Wi-Fi is not absent, cellular connection such as 4g is absent. You might be able to create an ad hoc network between the fire and another device but it would be pretty pointless except for sharing GPS location from phone to kf. The kf has no network capabilities other than Wi-Fi.

That is not what saying absent WiFi means
Saying absent WiFi does not mean WiFi is absent. Two different phrases in the English language with absolutely opposite meanings
In this context it means aside from wifi

I have never heard of such an odd use for the word but I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Where did you pick up this really peculiar definition for the word "absent"??

Sounds like he wants to set up a mesh network.

Removed because this argument is rediculous and because of thepooch's post below. You are simply wrong and I refuse to continue a conversation about the English language with you.
Haha guys stick to the subject which I think is pretty much moot. As far as I know the kindle is not capable of generating it's own hotspot.

I see your studying engineering...you have never heard someone say "absent the existence of X variable, Y variable will not function"?

See that one I can handle, as it uses the word with its correct definition I.e. to be missing. I have just not been able to find a definition of the word that in any way resembles "aside from".
This post has indeed gotten way off topic lol

.-. I intended to say that the s3 is capable of hosting a wireless hotspot without 4g, 3g or wifi. So it's a wifi hotspot that doesn't provide Internet connection. A local connection.

I have been able to connect the kf to a cell phone that has no cellular service just to transmit GPS data for navigation software but never been able to get the kf set up as an open connection even using the same software.

I just tried on twa_priv's ROM to setup a hotspot with Wireless Tether (root required), and it did not work. So I don't think that you can setup a hotspot on the KF

DLNA

Hi, Guys.
I know that S4 has DLNA capability.
Have a Sharp TV that also DLNA capable
I tried to view the pictures and all I get is "DLNA server is not found".
Wife's HP lappy, on the other hand, connects with no problem,so I know that DLNA on the TV works.
Did anyone try to use this feature? What am I doing wrong?
Both devices are on the same router, is there some settings I have to turn ON to be able to use DLNA with S4?
Thanks in advance.
Tester.
The first time I did it the s4 and/or the TV asked for my permission to connect. Once I authorized, it worked every time. Refer to your TV owner's manual.

Miracast on PC

I am looking around but could not find the right answer. I want to miracast or streaming screen cast on a pc and projector for delivering lecture preferably wireless.
I tried [email protected], screencast etc, they need usb connection and ADB. But ADB couldn't detect my note 510 device while it is working for other Android device.
Kindly suggest me any sw that can allow miracast on Windows 7 pc. Or any other good option.
Thanking everyone for your help in anticipation.

Edit: I can connect my device through ADB, so the [email protected] successfully. So, with USB cable screen cast on PC is working. For wireless over WiFi I am still trying.. and looking for help.

Fire TV and SlingPlayer

So my Fire TV managed to update itself after I blocked it during the initial setup. Hasn't bother me too much until now. I bought and side loaded SlingPlayer for android and it works ok. Requires a mouse to select certain functions but otherwise it works very well. My problem is that after running the app one time, on the second load it says it can't authenticate. I'm guessing there is nothing I can do since I cannot root but I thought I would ask here. Right now I just uninstall and side load again. Any ideas?

You need a different apk. If you did legitimately buy it you should install google play services and install slingplayer through that.
I am unable to install play services because I can't root. I've used APK extractor on my Galaxy Tab twice since I bought the app to try and make sure I had an authenticated copy
