Nilkin Frosted - Nexus 5 Accessories

Anyone got any experience with this? Looks like a pretty cool slim case. Might just order one.

Seems pretty standard,

i've got one & love it, can't beat the quality for the price.
fitment, build quality, finish are all great & doesn't add much bulk to the phone.

Yes i have one...If you use a glass protector (glass or film) I DO NOT recommend, it will lift it no matter how well the screen protector is installed. I have the Nillkin glass screen protector and instantly took this case off because it was lifting it up, it did it with many of my screen protector. The only thing I liked about this case was the texture.

Anyone got any scratches on the phone like tpu cases tend to do?

Not bad at all for the price but useless with a screen protector as they ALL get lifted. No damage in terms of scratching to my phone body either

[Q] Screen protector vs. case

Just bought a GN and I've never used a screen protector before for my previous phones, only cases. What would you recommend based on your own experience?
I'm leaning toward screen protector because I don't want to have a clunky, huge abomination of a phone, but then again, I don't want to lose the glassy feeling of a naked screen...recommendations please? Thanks.
I use the regular Verizon ones. Work great, do the job just fine.

Also, I use a speck case which has a thin profile and still protects very well.
i use a zagg screen protector and a cruzerlite tpu case, feels good in the hands n fingers
Better safe than sorry.
Check out the cruzerlite androidified a2 cases on amazon. They protect, they're cool, cheap and highly rated. There's a buy 2 get 1 free deal.
I also advise a screen protector because the galaxy nexus has no gorilla glass. People seem to like XO Skins because there is no "orange peel effect", it looks true to the screen, and it can heal itself if scratched. Of course, you will lose the glass feel(some say that xo skin has a slightly rubbery feel) but it's a small price to pay for a $400+ investment. Don't get the case fit because it doesn't cover the entire screen.
I've never really used screen protectors on any of my phones either and they still look like new. On my GNex, I only use a case. I just wipe the screen with a soft cloth once in a while to get fingerprints off.
I dont use a screen protector but somehow my screen has a scratch on it now about an inch long. Idk how it happened and have never scratched any other screens so i think a protector would be a worthy investment since the screen isnt gorilla glass. I sometimes put on a case (default verizon, really nice actually not too big) when i go out but just as often I leave it off because its so nice naked.
I have total body skin from Bestskinsever. From time to time I use my SGP ultra capsule, Mercury and Diztronic r3 with it.

I just use a screen protector I got from Verizon. They waived my $30 upgrade fee if I bought it so I'm happy Case wise, I just bought a Cruzer Lite Androidified A2 High Gloss TPU Soft Gel Skin Case in green and it's shipping in tomorrow. I'm excited.
To be honest I prefer having a screen protector than a case..I've looked at the otter box and while it looks great it does add considerable bulk and they are pricey...in the other hand screen protectors are lightweight and inexpensive if you know which one to get. You can pick a
GEARMAXX screen protector for cheap...They sell on ebay and are high quality, lightweight and durable!

I'm going naked but with protection....(title sounds funny I know)

I'm thinking about having my phone naked....... well, sort of. What I mean is, I was thinking of adding the SGP Glas for the front. So now the front will be protected. Then I would have a bumper protecting the sides of the phone. For the back I would have an invisible shield, Even if I do happen to drop it I can easily buy the back panel since its cheap. Do you think this would be a smart way of having my phone feel naked and having great having protection?
I just love the naked slim body of the phone. I do have a diztronic case even though the case has very little bulk, its still does not the feel the same.
Looking for some advise
What I would buy to do this is...
SPIGEN SGP Samsung Galaxy S3 Screen Protector

Fort he Back of the phone

You don't need to protect the screen at all, gorilla glass is much stronger than your flimsy plastic sheets you put on it. If something can scratch gorilla glass, that "screen protector" will not stop it at all. A weaker object can't protect a stronger object.
What you need to protect is the phone's back. I use my phones naked always. I've never had much problem. However with SGS3, my phone's back is covered with scratches. I don't remeber having any other phone with a backplate this vulnerable.

Nah Gorilla glass can be scratched.
I'm sure if I did this to gorilla glass without a screen protector.... it would be destroyed.

I'm also using SGP glas on my S3, but I use with Samsung's slim case. This thing add literally no thickness at all! And it protects back and the camera. I thought about using SGP ultra bumper case but I'm worried about camera lens since it doesn't provide any kind of protection around.

should be in accessories thread
Does using a screen protector take away the essence of the S3's beautiful screen? I am very careful about keeping my phone away from coins, keys, etc. and am confident about not getting the screen scratched; my only concern is the finger oil marks that are left on the screen.
Will a screen protector resolve this issue?
I am confused.
Why not using a pouch like this one? http://mobil.idealo.de/preisvergleich/OffersOfProduct/3276708_-slimcase-leather-xl-bugatti.html
Using a similar case since I have my s3 (bought it at launch) and haven't got a single scratch yet and still have the pure device when I interact with it.

because if I dropped it when its out of the punch im screwed.
Be careful with samsung ultra slim in 0.3mm
I got them ( there are 2 differents in package) and both suffer hot temperatures! I have no photo atm but i can clearly say that they deform themeselves if exposed at some high temperature(for example when you play game or any sort of thing that increase battery temperature)
they are curved now and dont fit well..
So i gone with the tpu ,always samsung offcial, and all is awesome (but you lose the naked but protected feel xD)
When i read naked i thought you meant to take the motherboard out and put it in a transparent case/shell to show the insides....
Why not try a Zagg invisible shield. I'vehad one on my SGS since the beginning and also on my GTab. It'll be the first thing I get on my next mobile upgrade. You can get maximum protection (front, back, sides) or just front protection.

it wouldnt
there are plenty of videos of people scraping keys, knives, and other sharp objects across the screen with no effect, even sandpaper which resulted in very faint scratches
my phone has flip case... and the screen's scratched to ****. If gorilla glass is scratchproof then i'm the king of mars
So then, is a screen protector absolutely essential? I'd rather have the screen naked, then use a screen protector.
I have, however, got a pretty nice body for the phone that covers and protects the back well.

Case, screen protector? Or both?

What do you use. What's your setup? Idk how I feel about using a case and no screen protector. I feel as if it defeats the purpose of protection

Spigen ultra fit and the screen protector that came with it
The case is too tight and scratch the left top corner. My advice is to keep the case on and never take it off. Or use a soft case like a tpu.

Case took only a few days to get used to and it's worth it. Helps when the materials are soft touch as on the Fusion Hybrid.

Shellster case for my N5
Hi
I use this shellster case for my N5 and for still I have not used any screen protector on my N5 as it protects my phone completely it does not let the screen to touch surface even when I put it on the table even from the screen behalf...it has a 180 stand view that also makes me comfortable for media viewing in both mode in landscape and portrate and it also ensures the safety of my phone quite well too..so I like this case and would recommend too...the only thing I just need to update in it is to have some protection in the lower end as it is open from their...but that hardly effects as it covers the corners properly...so simply I have a case with a combo of Holster and Kick stand....So I just love it and quite happy with it.....
I was using an extreme guard screen protector...but it was coming up at the corners and looked pretty aesthetically displeasing so I took it off a few days ago.. the bare glass is so nice and smooth to the touch... I think I will let the Gglass do it's job until I have to run into my old nemesis quartz sand when I go to Florida this spring break

No case, no screen protector.
First we don't need a screen protector, the screen is hard enough to protect from friction.
Second you'll waste the original back of N5, course the touch feeling of any other case cannot be better than the skin like material.
That's my opinion:fingers-crossed:

Actually, the screen can very easily scratch, all it takes is a bit of sand or dust in your pocket. Glass is harder than steel, so keys are not a concern, but most sand is silicon, which is the same hardness as glass, and some sand or dust can even be corundum or diamond, and there is just no way to stop that from scratching any surface.

I think the case has the same feel as the phone itself, and stays true to the design.

I might change the screen protector to a glass protector.

The Glass Tempered Screen Protector War

Hi Everyone,
I recently received my OnePlus One, and it is pretty amazing.
Now the trouble that I have is choosing which glass tempered screen to get.
Rhinoshield seems very attractive, but at $25 that is a premium. If it is indeed the best, then it would be worth every penny.
Now I understand that there are many threads on Glass Tempered screen protectors, and I'm here looking for a definitive answer, as reading upon thread after thread would be inefficient.
So what is the consensus from xda on glass tempered screen brands?
Go with orzly tempered glass from Amazon. Its like 14 bucks shipped and just as good as the higher cost ones.

+1, I have the Orzly as well and its great! I dont believe in paying over $20 for a tempered glass screen protector. The Orzly is smooth feeling and with its rounded edges makes it a premium feeling protector. :good:
I have the Orzly as well, with an aluminum bumper. It fits perfectly and works well.
Dont waste your money on Rhinoshield, its a pet film and got scratches dont worth the money, better get a tempered glass protector
I have orzly too and they are just fine for me! Haven't tried any one more expensive though

I'm very satisfied with the Nillkin 9H Hardness tempered glass Screen Protector... $9.28 shipped from ebay. Fits perfect with my Diztronic case. Been in hard use for about a month with no scratches from carrying in pocket and laying on the desk. Wife carries her OPO phone in her cluttered purse with the same setup and no scratches either.
I have the Orzly and noticed some scratches near the corners, the fit and feel are great though. When I had the MIME on my Nexus 5 I would always lay it face down and didnt seem to scratch like the Orzly. Has anyone else experienced this?
I'm using Mime's tempered glass and have for every phone I've had, it keeps the screen as sensitive as it is without one, is super thin and I like how the warranty works out with it if I break it (never have and won't [fingers crossed]). It doesn't get in the way of cases like the fold-able ones or regular bumpers. I'd recommend it just because I use it on just about everything!

Exactly my reason for getting one. Its not the protection that's up for debate with me, its the oleophobic coating and superior scratch resistance.
What do you guys think of the CaseBase tempered glass screen protector?

UK Note 7 Replacement - naked, glass or plastic.

Now we have replacement phones how are you carrying them?
I have spigen neo hybrid crystal and factory screen plastic while I decide what to do.
Its a problem. I have yet to own an Edge series mobile that I am able to purchase a glass screen protector in fact any sort of screen protection. This is the one major problem for most Edge users across the range.
Please let me know if you find a decent one.

I think sand and similar particles will scratch gorilla glass. If sand or similar particles get behind the case on a glass backed phone it can likely get scratches. I also agree that the curved glass screens mean any tempered screen protector is pretty much out. That sucks, because tempered protectors prevent about 95% of breaks and they hold up much better than plastic protectors which get scratched easily. I have been making my own clear plastic screen protectors by using a tempered protector I had that fit over the flat part of the display (but wouldn't stay down on the edges even still which is why I took it off) as a template to make a screen protector out of dollar store tablet screen protectors. That is not a permanent solution and once I get my replacement N7 set up I am going to be using the galaxy tab7 plastic skin protector and wrap it around the phone all the way to the back. This has already been done as DIY screen protector by another member here and looks like the best option right now. I will not be going naked as one of my businesses is contracting/construction (the other retail) and my phone will be in a tool pouch so I need to have some kind of screen protector on when working like this.
yes, sand particles between the case and the back, will surely make scratches, no doubt about
