No AT&T LTE Speeds (Solved) - Oppo Find 7 and 7a

So I was poking around the OF7 forums and noticed that I wasn't the only person that despite the many combos of APNs I was using, the best I was getting was H+. Come to find out, your issue is 1 and/or 2 things.. I happened to have both issues.
1. I never had 4G capability until this phone (coming from SG2)
Since I had a standard size SIM, I had to go get an LTE enabled microSIM to fit this phone at the AT&T store.
2. I registered my IMEI with AT&T
DO NOT register your OF7a with AT&T, since it's an unrecognized phone, it will default to pretty much trash and you'll lose any chance of 4G until you do what I had to do.
Solution:
What I did was take my wife's phone (LTE enabled GSIII) and put my microSIM inside. Powered the phone on, let it recognize my SIM.. and then I contacted ATT via Messenger on their site. Told them that I was using my wife's phone and that I didn't have LTE on it, but she did whenever she used it.. Gave them the IMEI number for the GSIII and after he made his updates in his system, he had my power off my phone for 90 secs. After I powered the phone back on, and just like that, I had LTE on the SG3 with my SIM.. thanked the tech and popped my SIM back into the OF7a and viola! All good.. Now that I have confirmed 4G LTE on the OF7a, I've been playing around with different APNs... so far my favorite is as follows:
down: 30-45 up: 16+
Name: Anything you want, I called it OPPO PTA
APN: pta
Proxy: not set
Port: not set
Username: not set
Password: not set
Server: not set

well crud I called yesterday and registered my IMEI and I guess my phone as well. Still no LTE. I'll probably stop by ATT store again and see what they can do. While I rarely use the cell data, might as well get the fastest I can right? Thanks for the tips.

AT&T APN switching to PTA on Galaxy Nexus

After reviewing the GS2 thread on the same topic (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109983), I thought it might be worthwhile to discuss this issue on the Nexus. I was not able to get the Nexus connected using the information in that thread. However, I was able to get it connected to pta using a slightly modified version of the Skyrocket settings, which I'll post below.
One quick question before I do that, though -- I am only able to get 3 mb/s or so on my Nexus. I am on the unlimited data SOC code for LTE: LDPPVM5 -- think that code is causing any problems?
Anyway, here are working settings to get to PTA (the one the Skyrocket uses):
1) Go to settings, more (under networks), Access Point Names
2) Click on the 3 dots to create a new APN, name it AT&T PTA, and enter the following:

Not to be too paranoid, but will messing with these settings make it appear you are, say, tethering? I don't want to lose my unlimited data on ATT and fear that changing anything to access faster speeds may flag me for using a computer?
Similar to when the Dolphin desktop mode was flagging people on ATT, prompting the carrier to accuse users of tethering...
I wasn't aware Galaxy Nexus had the proper radio for this...

Are you using AT&T's LTE provisioned SIM? that's probably why you're seeing the issue. Also that SoC code is LTE provisioned code which doesn't help.

I am using an AT&T LTE provisioned SIM and my SOC code is LTE, so that could be part of the problem. But also keep in mind, I had that done just in case AT&T ever started to refuse to upgrade unlimited data users to LTE unlimited data. Right now, they're eager to get the LTE towers full, so they won't stop such upgrades -- that may change in the future.
Anyway, I played with my settings for a long time tonight and realized that APN type needs to read "default,internet,supl", not just "default,supl". I have no idea what that means or why it matters, but when I changed that, my speeds definitely increased. To give a comparison, at 1 AM, I got the following speeds:
default wap.cingular APN -- 4-5 Mb for most test servers
phone APN (as described in the thread linked in the OP) -- Average of 5 Mb for most test servers and high of 6 Mb
pta APN (as described above) -- average of 7 Mb for most test servers and high of 8 Mb
The difference isn't exactly extreme, and it's far lower than I'd hoped for, but I think pta is demonstrably faster, at least in my area. I'm eager to see how it does during the work day tomorrow.

Are you sure this line was exact (with no spaces)? Without "default" there it won't get me data services either, but with it I do:
APN type: default,internet,supl
No data for me either, reverted back to the dault cingular apn...though the HSPA+ phone APN that is floating around these board damn near doubled my speeds.

Just curious... If the HSPA+ APN doubled your speed, then why go back to the default cingular settings?
Im confused, why would the PTA apn do anything in the first place? i thought the i9250 version of the GNex isnt equiped with an LTE radio. Im in Los Angeles, CA where theres no LTE, i cant even get data with the PTA APN on my skyrocket. Unless I am mistaken and theres an LTE radio? id be so happy. Can anyone confirm? GSMARENA.COM list the specs for the i9250 with LTE 700mhz but other sites dont.

The 9250 doesn't have LTE. It's HSPA+.

It does not have LTE. It has HSPA+ (which AT&T and T-Mobile advertise as 4G). The poster here was saying he previously used a Galaxy S II Skyrocket (which is an AT&T LTE device) and because of that, his data plan is LTE and his SIM is an LTE SIM.
Anyway, I used the APN settings listed around this board and it doesn't seem to make a difference. When I used the settings posted, speedtest wouldn't work properly. It said I was getting 7kbps when it clearly wasn't that slow in real world usage. Going back to default fixed that issue, but I'm only getting about 3.5mbps down. I'd be happy to be getting 5. I already called AT&T and confirmed I've been changed over to an HSPA+ data SOC. Also, I got a new SIM card yesterday since my last one was from when I got my iPhone 3GS a couple years ago.

If you have an LTE SOC, you can use the LTE APN but the device doesn't support LTE. You might as well get the HSPA+ SOC and use the HSPA+ APN.

Using the latest AT&T LTE compatible SIM will not cause a problem. It is backward compatible with all AT&T plans. As for an incorrect SOC, well that's a different story and may have unpredictable results although a number of people have different SOCs/APNs working to their satisfaction.
Since a lot of people here think the LTE SIM is not compatible with HSPA/HSPA+, I am posting part of an official communique for "company owned" device users that went out just before the new LTE SIM was rolled out:

my account is LTE provisioned too(came from skyrocket) and these are almost the exact settings I ended up with as well after messing around with them and comparing with other skyrockets and SG2.
i have not been using the "internet" in the "default,internet,supl" setting, I just had "default,supl".
i have added the internet to see if I see any changes. these are the fastest Ive been able to get my GN to perform at. still not as fast as my skyrocket was using h+, and the MMS take a while to send/recieve sometimes.

Confirm that after obtaining new SIM to replace my 3 year old one and provisioning with a Skyrocket IEMI with LTE unlimited data plan I now am regularly 5Mbps down and hit 7-8Mbps at times. Latency is around 130ms.
MMS not playing nice. I haven't tested send and receive enough to say it works for me or not. I'll check in the morning when texting.

Yes. Thank you. I did do so. My calls to ATT level 2 tech support and then a Supervisor now claim my issue is related to provisioning. The sim is correctly provisioned as pta with APN type settings as default,internet,mms,supl. I am told my account settings as part of my customer profile does not correctly reflect my IEMI and therefore my MMS feature is wonked. Sounds like I am in the customer service black hole waiting for my service ticket to make it through helpless-desk hell. There is something to what I am being spun because my online account is all screwed up. I love smartphone gadgets and hate wireless carriers!

Ok, for the sake of argument, try this please and report back. I have a Vivid that I bought unsubs, therefore I didn't get it from at&t, but from Tigerdirect.com and I had to set my apn because I live in York, PA and there is no LTE here. I am able to send and receive mms and access internet at 6+ mbps and I didn't call at&t to report my new phone. Here are my APN settings:
I setup 2 apns, below are both:
APN1:
Name: AT&T HSPA+
(everything else leave blank until the end, which you will
APN type: default,admin,fota,hipri
APN2:
Name: AT&T MMS
APN: wap.cingular
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
APN type: mms
Those are my settings and again I can send and receive MMS and access internet. Ensure the radio is clicked on AT&T HSPA+

I have an N5100 I sometimes put my AT&T SIM in.
For the most part, it works well. I did have one glitch where mobile data stopped working for some reason (phone calls and texts still went through). I had to do a factory reset to fix it, but this could be because I'm constantly swapping my SIM in and out.
I just learned today about AT&T's phone APN. The default APN that gets loaded by the SIM is the wap.cingular one, but if you use the phone APN, the data speeds are much faster. I believe I am seeing HSPA+ speeds (6946kbps).
Here are the settings:

Proxy: Not set

[Q] T mobile Note 2 on att not getting LTE

I have read many posts and think my problem is because I let them scan my IMeI number.
I have Note 2 from Walmart on T-mobile, I had them unlock the network by telling them I was going overseas. I ported the number off of it and the account closed automatically. When I get the final bill I will pay the ETF fee and all will be doen with them.
I went to at&t and opened another line for this phone and it gets the hspa+ but won't get LTE.
I have the correct apn set correctly.
Does anyone know a way I can get my Imei number off the at&t computer or another way to fix it so I can get LTE?
It looks like I need to take another AT&T LTE phone there and let them scan the number. Will it mess up someone elses phone if I use their number and they are on AT&T?
Or maybe another way I could get online and fix it?

I have all the apn settings correct, those are posted everywhere.
I was given a hint I shouldn't have let AT&T scan my IMEI number. But I don't know how to fix that,

I think I remember something about enabling AWS on the device for transitioning between carriers. I can't remember if it was tmo to at&t or vice versa. IIRC there was a thread over on the at&t xda gn2 page regarding tmo GN2 use on at&t. Teshx or Tekhd I think did something with it.

[Q] AT&T LTE APN issues

I recently put CM 10, and most recently,CM 11,on my P930.
One thing I can't get to work is the mobile data connection; the best it can do it seem is 3G (HSPA)
I recall the defaults in CM 10 getting HSPA+ briefly, but that was short lived.
One suspicion I have is the SIM card; this phone went missing a few months ago, so I bought a used Iphone 3GS to fill in, and I had to get a fresh SIM. Once I found the P930, I then got to rooting and modding it ( I was running it vanilla before it went missing); once I got CM 10 I then moved over the SIM. Would the fact that I used a non-LTE phone first on that particular SIM card cause this to happen? Or was I given a non-LTE SIM of some sort?
Some other things to note:
- pta APN's don't seem to work at all. I read that was axed awhile back; and my mom's Pantech Burst just has the phone APN (but it gets LTE just fine)
- phone APN's do work, up to HSPA.
Finding a clear answer on up to what the up-to-date correct APN settings for ATT is as clear as mud.... I saw pretty much 20 different combinations, and I've had varied luck on getting them to work. Suggested APN settings would really be appreciated, along with any clues on whether I need a fresh SIM or not.
A non LTE Sim card can affect ur LTE connection.

if you got a new sim a few months ago, the sim is not the issue. ATT has been issueing LTE sims for a little over a year now. A good way to tell is looking for a "24","25","27" in the middle of the iccid (sim number starting with 8091).
Double check your apns and also, make sure your data plan is set back up for the Nitro. If you still have an Iphone data plan for the 3GS, then you will need to call or go online and change your data plan back to the smartphone with lte plan for the p930.

They never changed my plan, it was set for the Nitro the whole time (since it wasn't for sure lost for good). I verified it the other day.
The sim has a 27 in the middle.
I've tried messing with the APN settings like crazy... but here's the one APN I have set (since the pta seems obsolete and didn't work):

On CM11, mine is definitely showing:
ATT LTE
pta
And preferred network type "4G (recommended)". It is working fine on LTE where there is actually support (not near my house, but in the city).

Yeah, pta under apn is a must, bit i have also had that issue with a few Rom's even with pta, and the solution that worked for me was to flash baseband.

Called in to AT&T, fixed an IMEI issue. Works fine now... the "phone" apn seemed to also pick up LTE (connection type reported as LTE 13), so I ditched the pta one.

No network on US version with ATT

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem or can help with a solution. I just got my Oppo 7 (love this thing) but it seems the network doesn't work properly. The network seems to be picked up just fine, full bars, under network settings it automatically acquires the APN settings and everything, but I can't do anything over the air without WiFi. As soon as the WiFi is gone, I can't browse the internet, send or receive text messages, etc. What do?

I have mine set up on T Mobile and I'm having the same problem. It's pretty annoying. I've tried a factory reset to no avail. My phone downloaded an update this morning which I hoped would fix the problem, but it looks like it hasn't.

That's odd. There's one thing wrong with this device on stock - its APN database for AT&T is 3-4 years out of date. It was still using the wap.cingular APN when I turned mine on.
You need to manually put in the AT&T LTE APN (pta). ALSO if you've never owned an LTE device before you'll need to talk to AT&T to have your account updated. (Using the pta APN with a Nexus 5 resulted in no data for me too until I had my plan/account updated. You can do this without an actual contract change - for example I'm still grandfathered in to "unlimited data"). In general I would recommend doing this in-person at an AT&T-owned store, not at the phone and not at a franchisee (like most small mall kiosks).

Just putting in the pta APN with no other info was enough for me.
(MMS is probably borked for me until I fill in the right settings for it but I use MMS maybe once every 3 years at most.)

I just realized that you were in here Entropy. I appreciate the work you did with the Galaxy S2 (last phone I had before this one). Do you plan on doing any dev work with this one or are you going to take it easy?

I pulled the APN configs for ATT Phone APN from omni's github (I updated it a few months back to what it was from an AT&T stock TouchWiz Galaxy S4 ROM, so it this is update-to-date afaik)
I've bolded the ones that you actually need to touch, otherwise, don't touch them

I have this as my settings now and still only get H+. (except for the mmsc, you have 3 m's)
Weird thing is that I get 0 connection when I change from phone to pta.
Not sure if locale is the culprit. I'm in Oklahoma City.

whoops made a typo, yea it's only 2 m's in mmsc
try applying ATT Phone apn and rebooting,,
that's weird. did you call AT&T to confirm that you have the LTE data package on your account like Entropy512 stated ?

I went to the ATT store, but they weren't any help. They confirmed that the SIM they gave me was lte compatible, but I assumed that's the same thing as having an LTE data package. I'll give them a call tonight and let you all know. (btw, just re-applied your settings and still no luck)
edit: called.. and they claim that all accounts have lte compatibility now and of course she had never heard of the OF7a
The settings entropy posted were the exact settings my N5 had which I copied over and worked fine. One thing to be aware of is that mine says 4G on LTE and then either H or H+ for those, not sure if this applies only to my service area or what and another might show differently. At any rate if you're getting 4G showing you might wanna run speedtest and see if you are getting LTE.

AT&T's SIMs have been LTE compatible for years, even before AT&T had an LTE network. I need to check to be sure, but I'm fairly certain my SIM is still the original "cut down SIM" that I've had since 2011 at least.
It's your account that needs to be LTE-enabled.
Don't call. Phone support is awful. Go to a corporate-owned AT&T physical store. That's where the competent staff are.
(In my case, I originally did the LTE upgrade on a Nexus 5 - if you put a SIM into a Nexus 5 that doesn't have LTE on the account, you'll get a text message saying to call AT&T.)
