[Q] Bluetooth "MAP" and email - how to stop it? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is the first phone I've had (and I've had quite a few) that supported email via the bluetooth MAP profile (usually used by car head units to display/read SMS messages.)
Is there any way to prevent EMAIL messages from going across the bluetooth MAP profile? I've found driving in my car has become a major headache when my car alerts me to all my email (work email) -- but still want SMS messages to work normally.
(I can't block it from my car..)
Thanks
Gary

Ford BT Car Kit Problem - Solved!

My Hermes has never fully integrated with my Ford Focus BT Handsfree kit. Although I could always make and receive calls, it rarely read the Contacts on my Hermes and, when I scrolled to the Contacts on the car hifi, it would say Phonebook Not Available. On those occasions when it would read the Contacts, when I had an incoming call, it would indicate the number of the caller, but not the name. Once the call was answered, it would sometimes deign to show me the name.
The break through came when I flashed the PDACornerProV17 ROM. This must have a new BT utility. As soon as I had paired my Hermes, I got a pop up on the phone saying "Ford Audio wants access to your contacts. Do you accept this? Y/N". I have never had this before and, as soon as I tapped Yes, my contacts appeared on the car hifi. Now, when i receive an incoming call, I can see the name before I answer it, not after! Additionally, the car kit keeps a log of incoming and outgoing calls, another first.
So, if any of you have a Ford BT kit, and haven't got it to work properly, flash the PDA Corner ROM.
thanks for your report and recomendation also.
glad to know this info
thanks and regards...
By ford bluetooth kit, do you mean the Sync found in the focus/Fusion?
This works on my ROM with Pioneer BT stereos too...

I mean the built-in bluetooth kit, found in all recent UK Ford cars. It is a factory-fitted addition to the normal car audio, giving hands free phone functions and limited voice commands.
is that the BT Phonebook Access Profile (not SIM AP)?

Sorry, don't know the answer to that. But, if this is a new tool introduced into ROMs, this might explain why I got the message 'Ford Audio is trying to access your phonebook', and why the Hermes contact list is much more accessible through the car hifi.
from what i remember theres these other bluetooth modes, one for sms one for phone book and one other one referred to as profiles
the new roms must have this enabled but not full functionality of new email and sms from the phone i remember a friend saying something about 6.1 has this enabled where as before people needed an app to do it with the first 6 releases?? can someone confirm if this is correct ?

Text Msg over BlueTooth?

One of the things I miss from my old SonyEricsson was the ability to have text messages read to me on my GPS over BlueTooth.
I was recently told (on another forum) that this is a 'feature' that's turned off by AT&T, but I have my doubts...anyone want to jump in here and let me know if there's a tweak to enable Txt Msgs over BT?

Missed phone call notifications when on WIFI and cloud sync (& too far for Bluetooth)

Missed phone call notifications when on WIFI and cloud sync (& too far for Bluetooth)
That actually is a feature which I don't have (but would love to have).
My question is:
-is it just my SW3?
-is it everybody's SW3?
Here is what I found out:
- I receive call notification when within Bluetooth reach.
- SMS notifications works in both cases (1. when on Bluetooth, 2. when off Bluetooth but on WIFI)
- missed call notifications work in both cases for my son's Moto360 (1. when on Bluetooth, 2. when off Bluetooth but on WIFI).
Thanks in advance.

Android: Notifications over Bluetooth MAP Profile

Information in advance: as I am new I can't post links, so those are plain text.
I want to be able to forward the notifications of specific applications to my car.
The car is able to get the SMS list of my phone, so it would be great if the notifications appear inside there (e.g. WhatsApp).
After further reading, I have realized that the Bluetooth MAP Profile (bluetooth.com/specifications/assigned-numbers/message-access-profile) is used by my car to communicate regarding SMS.
I found an application in the play store that does exactly what I need:
Notification Forwarder Pro (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.groebl.sms)
Unfortunately the big drawback is that you have to set it as default messaging application.
And I do not want to do this.
Does anyone know about an application/possibility to achieve what I want without the need to change the default messaging application?
In the best case I would just have a whitelist of notifications I want to send.
Thank you already!

Messages over BT

My 3XL won't allow any of my bluetooth devices (Dodge UConnect, Huawei Watch) to access messages. It is not an option in the pairing security (where you can enable/disable audio, contacts, etc.). Am I alone here? Or is everyone having this problem? When I receive a new text message, my car and phone are completely unaware of it.
I'm using Google Messages.
Nope. Both my car (2018 Subaru) and Garmin Vivo connect and receive & send notifications just fine.
I'm an idiot. The phone was displaying a notification to grant permissions to messages, but I didn't see it because it was hidden in the "dot" summary notification icon due to the notch. Once granting permissions, the messages come through fine.
