[Q] Thinking of getting this phone, some questions? - LG Optimus G Pro

Hi, I have a couple of quick questions:
-Does this phone have screen color calibration? I know there apps but those are basically layers, I mean adjustements from kernel patches like the Nexus 4, I browsed some of the g pro forums and available kernels, cant seem to find info about this.
-Is there a noticeable bump in performance from the S4 Pro cpu? Im using an Optimus G and its definitely not slow, but it isnt the beast I was expecting compared to my old HTC Sensation, its fast but I still find myself waiting while using the browser (I plan to keep the phone I get for 3 years). So yeah im curious about that or if I should just wait for the G2 Pro.
-How well does sweep 2 wake work? This is a must feature for me.
-If anyone upgraded from the Optimus G (8mpx AT&T one) how much better is the camera?

I havent seen any color calibration options.
Performance is definitely better than the OG. Mine used to lag sometimes, this one works smooth always.
Dunno about swipe to wake.
The camera is waaaaay better than the OG camera. With my OG i got decent pictures at best.

i think Oneplus One surpas G2.
For non contract costing 350 bucks and you have a better cpu processor 64 built in storage and crispy 13 MP camera and 5 MP front camera and a 5.5 inch screen and exclusive cynogen kitkat rom.

Thanks for the advice but one of the reasons I chose the at&t lgog was the microsd option, what a shame, not even a 64gb option on that phone.

Thanks bro, what rom and kernel are you using? also no gamma options?

I'm just on a build on Cm right now with stock kernel. But o change so often it's retarded!.......I haven't seen gamma settings ....I use trickster on the play store for kernel settings

Note 2 or Optimus G? Definitely Note 2

Hi, I have the Optimus G for 2 days, and its a verrrrryyyyy fast device. What are the Quadrant scores you guys get with Note 2. I still have 12 days that I can exchange.
I'm not trying to convince anyone to get a Optimus G. Just want to know opinions from you guy's.
Edit: After using the Optimus G for 5 days its going back. I decided to get the Note 2 can't use anything that is not Super AMOLED. Thanx to all of you for your replies.
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda premium
Didnt screenshot it but 6200 ish is what I was hitting. I remember my low scores was graphics probably due to the huge screen lol.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Quadrant doesnt really matter. Our phones can handle anything you throw at them..
Questions you should ask yourself when trying to decide is:
Do you like the big screen of the Note II or prefer the LG Optimus G's screen?
Do you like the LG overlay or prefer touchwiz?
Will you be rooting and installing kernals? (Because if you are, im pretty sure the boot loader is locked down on the Optimus G so you wont be able to install kernals)
Do you like the build quality of Samsung or LG?
Do you need the removable battery?
^^^^ Answer these questions and you will most likely know your answer.
Hopefully I helped.
Battery life alone is worth it. I'm at 59% with 2 and a half hours screen on, LTE usage, 15 min voice calls, and 15 min navigation use. Google Now is running and I have sync running constantly. Been off the charger for 10.5 hours. Best battery life ever.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Well, here is my battery life on first full charge. Wifi was always on but only connected for about 6 hours (been gone all day). So LTE drain doesn't appear to be an issue as of yet. Lots of texts. 45 minutes streaming netflix movie over LTE While wife was shopping. Took about 300 pics and 15 minutes of video while at zoo. Lotbof internet and son playing Nova 3 for 35 minutes while driving to zoo. I am simply amazed!
Whatever your choice, don't think you will be disappointed if you do switch.

I still fail to see why do people care about Quadrant so much. It's like, if a company made a phone which did absolutely nothing but get 15k Quadrant scores people would buy it just for it. The GN2 (and I'm sure the Optimus G too) runs buttery smooth with minimal to none lag. It can run everything you throw at it as good as the Optimus G can.
What you should really ask yourself is if you'd rather have a 5.5 size screen vs a 4.7 sized screen. Not everyone likes the 5.5 screen on the GN2.

I was in the same boat and decided on the note 2.
Mostly because it will have developer support and LG doesn't release software updates often (so I've heard).
IMO they are both great phones, I just like Samsung a bit better.
From everything I have heard...LG doesn't put out updates as often...and doesn't have as much support from developers as the Galaxy line does...No SD card support or S-pen with the LG...but has a better screen...but no practical option for multi-veiw..
For my choice...the advantages of what I am going to do with it...the larger screen...the s-pen...the extra storage...makes the Note II the winner..
Mac
I have both phones. The Optimus G is on temporary loan but I've had it for a week or so. It's got a nice heft and I love the rounded edge, but it's an LG. I have worked with their other smartphones in the past and there are always strange little quirks and issues. Not to mention they're horrible track record for releasing updates. This Optimus G has already had problems with the camera not initializing and having to reboot to get it to work. Honestly you wouldn't go wrong with either phone. But I do like the note 2 more. It has a great display, awesome specs, it's just a good all around phone and I suspect there will be a very healthy active developer community. Samsung has already shown that they are able to release updates faster than they have in the past. Maybe it is because cyabogen works for them now. If you really wanted, I could post side by side pictures and benchmarks and stuff like that. What I also like about the Samsung is that it has some added compatibility with other Samsung phones, including the very popular Galaxy S3.

+1. But I still went for the Note II. I handled both at the AT&T store yesterday and am glad I picked up Note II.
I bet the the Note II will have more user development support like roms, kernels, etc than the Optimus G
If the OP is worried with benchmarks, check the sun spider benchmark - the note 2 destroyed the Optimus G (note 2 scores between 1025 and 950 - lower=better) and beats the Optimus G in antutu and several others (look for Engadget review of Nexus 4- shows all major benchmarks between Nexus 4,Optimus G, and Note 2 - Note 2 wins 4 out of 6).
Note 2 has spen (KILLER feature when you use it, so dang useful), excellent battery life, bigger screen (Web page viewing is a pleasure), expandable storage (except for ATT version) , smart stay/rotation features... Such a huge list. Note 2 all the way.
I'm scoring between 6300 and 6500 in quadrant, but I don't give any credence to this score- I find sun spider and antutu more telling of a device's day-to-day performance.

It sounds more like you've already made your decison, since you are asking about if you should Get a certain phone on a forum with an obvious bias (nearly everyone on this GN2 forum has bought it already, so you will pretty much just hear people say get the GN2, because they made that decision, and will probably extend their opinion to you, to justify their own purchase.
TLDR: Don't expect an objective opinion )
That being said. If you like the bigger screen, you will absolutely not be disappointed with the Note 2. I'm sure the Optimus G is pretty good (haven't ever touched one though!) as well, but I can say for sure the Note 2 is one hell of a phone.:victory:

That's not always true. I have an Optimus G, SGS3,Gnote 2, HTC OneX, and many others. The fact that I have all these phones but choose the Gnote 2 as my daily device speaks highly of this phone. I'm not giving my opinion from bias, I'm giving it from having access to most top end phones and when compared side-by-side, the Note 2 is simply superior.

Which is Better? Note 2 or LG Optimus G Pro?

the LG Optimus G Pro was released days ago. its got the same screen size as the note 2 but is narrower than the note 2. i wanted to tget the note 2.. but now since the optimus came out, i'm thinking about getting the optimus. which do u guys think is better and why?
I would go with the LG
Newer hardware. Better display. Etc.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda premium
Do you intend to use the spen? If yes, get the note 2 or wait for the note 3.
I do IT work and always used to write notes in a notebook or quick notes on post-its. When I needed the info later I would have to waste time thumbing through a notebook or looking for a sticky note that I'd lost. Now, everything gets stored on my note and is readily available later.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
i would go for the note 2 for sure. all the things that you can do on LG, now you are able to do it with note 2. using Android Paranoid Halo the new version. I bought note 2 because i am in IT business as well and take notes and do many quick things on note 2. Anyway thats my opinion hope it help you.

Mods are probably too busy to delete a single post that really has not broken any rules. When I decide on two phones I .... Read. I compare the specs side by side. Go to the store and play with both. Then I think about how I use the phone and then make the decision based on what I read and how the phone worked in person.

If price is not an issue, then go with the optimus. It has a slightly faster CPU, higher resolution screen, and a better camera
One me variable. If you like to ROM and play with your phone avoid lg. They rarely have much dev support si in sure the Optimus g will be the same

I would say the LG honestly. Way faster, better display, fits in your hand better. Overall just a better phone honestly. I have had the note 2 and just got the LG and I love the LG a lot more.
I have had nothing but terrible luck with LG.
For me, I would stick with what has worked and had awesome experience with Samsung products.
I know the Nexus 4 has sold well, but is vanilla.
I guess the best bet is to head to store and try each one out.
I don't believe the battery last as long in the Optimus G either.

If you want custom roms, i would say no.
If you want a bigger screen I would say yes.

correction, if you are a flashaholic then no, but cm10.1 is in the works and other custom roms will follow
Yes there will be stable cm some time.
I came from a HTC One. I loved the One but I am a phone whore. Honestly I miss blinkfeed but that's about it. The One is a great phone but I found the screen size too small. I had a note 2 and love it but it was hard to hold and the screen was substandard. The screen on the ogp is gorgeous and their UI is fast and extremely customizable out of the box. And though it is a 5.5 inch screen, the design of the phone and the thinner bezel make it much easier to hold. Battery life was iffy at first but after a few days it hunkered down and I can easily get through a day with 3+ hours of screen time.
I don't think I'll ever buy another Samsung phone again but we will see about HTC. The One Maxx has my interest peaked. But overall the ogp is the best phone nobody knows about.

I'm looking forward to bigger screen, ext micro sd, home button notification light, camera, removal bigger battery,

Agree fully. For me too. OGP was a hidden Diamond.
I would have never bought this if not have got great deal on it.

[Q] Is the E980 a good buy?

I'm looking for an upgrade from Optimus 2X P990. I've a shortlisted a few phone that are in my budget, they are the N4, Optimus G, Optimus G Pro, and the Xperia SP.
There are a few questions I have.
Firstly, I'll buy an E980 AT&T version if I am to get an Optimus G Pro, but will it work with the Indian Service providers flawlessly?
Secondly, why isn't there as many ROMs as there has to be for a terrific phone as this? Is it because of the Locked Bootloader?
Thirdly, does the FreeGee support mean that a Pandora's box of ROMs and Kernels have been opened?
Thank you all.

Ron

It all depends what you're looking for. True, the OGP lacks dev support, but the few ROMs we work nicely and the hardware is fantastic.
I wouldn't bother with an N4. The AT&T LG Optimus G (LG-E970) has almost the same exact hardware as the N4 but a bigger and better screen with cap keys and an external SD slot. But, since everything else is 97% the same as the N4, the OG gets updated custom ROMs just as fast as the N4 since the sources for the N4 can be use for the e970 with very minor changes.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I did consider the AT&T E970 for the reasons you mentioned. But then again, the hardware and design of the E980 is too tempting to let go. Wondering if the development for the phone will grow in future. If so, this will be my next phone, hopefully. Also, since it has official CM support too, doesn't that secure the development of ROMs for at least 2-3 years? :/

Not necessarily. With 4.4 now out, the CM team would still need to add the device. However, personally, I do think this will get the 4.4 update one way or the other and I won't be jumping to a new phone anytime soon.

This phone is a great phone and the developers that we do have are great. We will continue to get updates because the hardware is too good to just leave on jellybean. This is my opinion of course, so I am clearly happy with the e-980 and don't plan on getting another phone anytime soon.

The only downside I've found has been that the custom rom support isn't as good as most Samsungs I've owned so just check out what is available for the optimus G pro and see if it's enough for you.

Galaxy Wonder vs Galaxy S vs LG Optimus 2X

GUYS. I was just travelling randomly at my country and then i found these 3 phones at shelf for about 100SGD (60USD???). I told you guys that im buying the Wonder but honestly, idk, a dual core 2X and an SGS1 ... Can anyone decide for me which is the best in terms of roms and perf etc. I mean, our sgw can probably be better than the 2X with cm9 or smth...

I would go with the wonder. I don't like LG phones, the Galaxy S, is older and slower than the Wonder. I would go for the Wonder, but its your choice man

TBH. my heart also goes wif the wonder because of the community here. Perf wise, it shld be better than the galaxy s and maybe the 2x since lg dont really provide device source for their phones...

I thought of buying the Xiaomi MI3 at the end of this year, thats using a S800 chip and cost tad more than the G. I also heard its blindingly easy to root and it has dual boot kernels out of the box.

My mum has it. As you can probably see from the bottom. Its not all snappy i'd say, firstly, MIUI, its holding so much ram that rite now with xda, i have ony 568mb of ram free. For a device with 2 gb of ram, meh, could be better. Asphalt 8 also fails on me. It force close in a second of a starting race. About the Hongmi 1S, I'll see the price if its comparable to the Moto G in terms of everything really

talk about functionality......acer liquid s2 is another phone with good spec.
is a bit more expensive but affordable, i think it cost lesser than most flagship phones.

phablet combination of phone n tablet.
its not too small or too large. :good:
wonder screen is too small, i dun really to surf web on it.
after long staring at it, eyes went blurry....so i want to get something with 5~6 inches screen.
maybe 5.5" will be just nice.
