good job
good job , i had oppo n1 running rom OMNI , but its havent otouch and camera google , i'll try flash rom vanir

Thanks for your interest in the device. With Oppo officially declaring that they won't be supporting N1, I guess we can use your help. Will download it and let you know how its working. Thanks again!!

Initial impressions after using the ROM for few hours is that except for battery life, everything seems fine. However, battery life is still an issue. Its still early to pass a judgement on the battery life but can anyone tell me which governor and i/o combination will be best for multi tasking with normal apps like whatsapp, viber, twidere and google+ while delivering good batteyr life.

I couldn't have been more wrong about Battery life. I am using Gov: Ondemand, profile: powersave and i/o: row and battery saving mode is turned on. I am getting more than 5 hours on screen time with amazing standby time, losing 2-3 percent in 5 hours with no significant effect on performance. Its a pleasure to use. ROM is very stable for daily use. Took pics, apps used were whatsapp, viber, messenger, twidere, google+, hangouts, chrome and the other usual suspects. No FCs so far.
Bugs I know of:
1. You have to turn off backlight on capacitive buttons everytime you restart.
2. I couldn't change notification sounds in few apps. You might have to keep using default.
3. Slow shutter doesn't seem to be working. I will confirm it when I can.
4. Flashlight gestures isn't working for me. Music gets played with small movement of fingers on screen.
Nothing major. Loving it so far

installed the latest rom and i'm impressed
just to confirm since i could not find the appropriate settings / no search result found:
- is the camera rotation triggering the camera app like in omni rom / color OS?
- are long exposure option & grid available in native camera app?
- is the vanir updater app working since launching it does nothing
big thanks & thumbs up for the good work

Excellent work and everything work fine
Some bug I face it :
I got FC when I enter them
I can't place date on status bar
And the ROM have no o-touch and o- click future
As you know n1 have no notification led. Its possible to covert hardware led button to notification led ?!

1. No, the camera rotation doesn't work and its one feature I do miss, but doesn't really come in the way considering you can also use gestures.
2. Long exposure option is there. It isn't working for me though.
3. Its getting updates as far as I know. I never cared for the update though. Its amazing already. Battery life and performance.

thx for confirming.. will retry the rom again as I've restored the default color OS with the latest update . I got the same camera malfunction bug reported on the oppo forums while taking pictures
Sent from my N1 using Tapatalk

hi have installed the rom again but i still cannot find the long exposure option.. can you guide me where it is? thx
Edit: found it ..thought it had manual long exposure

Just in case if you are looking for manual exposure setting, you should try Omni ROM nightly in 2-3 days. Maxwen, the developer of OmniROM, said it should be in the next nightly.
---------- Post added at 02:15 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:13 AM ----------
@DHO It would be very kind of you if you can incorporate manual exposure setting from OmniROM. I am afraid to leave this ROM as it has been excellent.

Hey DHO,
Vanir was the first to get updated to 5.0 for N1. Using it and so far its great. So Thanks "A LOT"!!!
I encountered only one bug, that auto rotation wasn't working. Rest works quite nicely.
EDIT: Another bug. After I put the phone on charging, the charging text on Lockscreen doesn't disappear.
Thanks Again.
Regards,
Praveen

Which version should I flash? toro, find5? Please advise.

cannot find build
How do i download the lollipop build.. i cannot find it please help..

Resurrecting this old thread, but I just noticed there are Marshmallow builds up for this ROM. I grabbed the latest, but it wouldn't boot (didn't even seem to try - it just went straight back into Fastboot). Is it worth trying on of the other earlier builds or am I doing something wrong?

@bobsetsfire I imagine the Marshmallow builds are still Alpha, probably don't work well even if they boot up. Not sure on this but TWRP may also require an update before the 6.0 ROMs will work correctly.
I'll test it later tonight though when I get back from the pub. Although, I'm interested to know if the Lollipop ROM has working rotation. Do you happen to know if this is the case?
Edit: Rotation doesn't work on the 5.1.1, as with every other Lollipop ROM, I have no idea why. As for the Lollipop build, that also didn't work. Just to be sure, did you do a full wipe, including uninstalling Xposed?

A bit sad... The nightly Marshmallow build still can't boot?

----------------------------------------------------
Hi everyone.
This is a notice to everyone that BrassDroid is being discontinued. We had a lot of fun doing it and we have learned a lot about the Android system.
However we are currently working on a few other projects including some games for android and maybe, before long, iPhone that is taking up the majority of our time.
When JellyBean 4.2 was released we felt there was only little we could do to improve the ROM... Maybe add the quick link bar at the top (as well as leaving Google's extra Notification area), we were also considering implementing the dual screen from the S3 and maybe an optional unity like menu that could be swiped from the left side (Think that may also on the S3). But as mentioned before, we just don't have the time these days. :crying:
We'd like to thank everyone who helped us through this immense learning curve. We were complete noobs to the programming scene (building a website was our limit) when we started this and cannot thank you all enough for being guinea pigs We have really enjoyed doing this project and appreciate the time you've spent testing our ROM's (especially our friends across the pond who were willing to try our blind built LTE ones).
Once again thank you to everyone who helped us and tested for us, we couldn't have done it without you
Maybe our paths will cross again soon
-----------------------------------------------------------
We have recently found ourselves being caught up in numerous projects and are not quite able to keep up the regular updates as you may have noticed. We just want to take this opportunity to say that they will likely become slightly farther apart. I'd like to think that at the most they will be every two weeks. Hopefully more regular though to keep in-line with the current CM changes (however we are slowly building our own ROM from the AOSP that we hope to use instead of CM... however this is a long time away yet)
We'd like thank everyone for their support during the development of this ROM and hope you continue to enjoy it (If you have )
A BrassFeet ROM for Galaxy Nexus.
Here we have BrassDroid, a collaboration between PjFlo and DeeToTheVee.
This comes in two flavours. A modable CM10 kang and a clean, smooth AOSP build.
These are compiled with the brilliant and energy effecient, Trinity Kernel by, Morfic.
I have found this to be a great combination of power and battery life.
This rom also includes a few build.prop tweaks aswell and some shaven fat.
Stable CM10 Source
Choice of Trinity or Franco Kernel.
Trebuchet.
Ability to move clock to the centre. (Temporarily removed - This is due to notification clashing with the clock)
NavBar mods, Menu, Search etc.
Extra browser controls.
Improved scrolling.
Improved dithering.
Google apps included!
Added smart stay app for keeping the screen on when looking at it (Disabled by default)
All new Android 4.2 features!
New Android camera with fully functional PhotoSphere!
New Android gesture keyboard (YOU NEED TO ENABLE THIS YOURSELF!!!!)
Go to settings - language and input and set the keyboard to Android Keyboard. (NOT THE AOSP ONE!!)
BrassDroid RC3 - 06/11/2012
PLEASE READ!!!!
THERE WILL BE A PERIOD ON FIRST BOOT WHERE THE PHONE WILL RESTART AND ON SECOND BOOT ATTEMPT THE SCREEN WILL GO BLACK. THE SCREEN GOING BLACK IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE BOOTANIMATION DOES NOT RUN LONG ENOUGH. BE PATIENT IT WILL BOOT!
WE WILL MAKE A NEW ONE BEFORE LONG BUT WE'RE NOT VISUAL DESIGNERS SO DON'T EXPECT TO BE BLOWN AWAY!
We strongly recommend a full wipe before installing this update as it will be replacing the camera app. It requires the Gallery2 apk to be removed so that GalleryGoogle can be installed. (Although I did a dirty flash and all was fine, DeeToTheVee recommended a wipe)
If you are comfortable with doing this manually then a dirty flash should be fine. If you're unsure then just do a wipe and then install the new update.

There is also a TORO version available over in the Galaxy Nexus TORO forums -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823482
Wipe data+cache and flash .zip with CWM.
If you are running BrassDroid already feel free to 'dirty' flash.
If you are coming from another CM10 build; remove any screen customisations (gamma etc.) before wiping and flashing this rom!
To enable the additional menu items for Trebuchet you MUST set it as the default laucher.
(Just click 'Always')

Future updates coming soon!

[ROM][CM10]BrassDroid, Trinity, JB_4.1.1[Clean][Fast][Power Saver]
Changelog:
RC3 06/11/2012
Latest feature listing (kind of a changelog but not quite)
Disabled centre clock for now as there has been some issues compiling with the latest source. It will hopefully be back though - main issue is that notifications are overlapping the time and this looks pretty ugly so... we'll see.
Disabled our default notification colour due to some reported issues, once again will be back soon.
Profiles added again (will, in final build, be disabled by default though)
Status bar power widget now has with most common widgets
Nav bar mods:
Ability to add and remove buttons from the navbar
(height adjustment will come in final build)
New stopwatch and countdown added to desk clock
Enabled development by default and some options within it
loads of the other general CM additions - far too many to name all of them
Choice of Trinity or Franco Kernel.
Disabled and removed CM updater to stop any updates to a CM build. We will remove all references to any Cyanogen features for stable. (Not to discredit them of course, just to stop conflicts)
Almost latest gapps. (Some like Chrome and Earth will need to be installed manually by you)
New cyanogen file manager - removed es file explorer
New data folder for apps some users may wish to uninstall such as facebook, instagram, franco updater etc etc
Added smart stay app for keeping the screen on when looking at it (Disabled by default)
New camera and gallery app including photosphere
New keyboard from Android 4.2 with gesture features
RC2 missed - generally just CM updates

Thanks PjFlo.
Very Nice
Flashed the new build today and it's very stable. Trinity works well with it, I'll PM you about collaboration if you like?
Thank you for taking the time to comment
Seems a good combo. I will try tonight. Would you consider adding manual mods? I have in mind navigation bar mods as it is the only feature remained worthy to be implemented.
I change ROM too often.

Yep, camera force closes when switching to video recording.
Can someone post me a link to this EOS gapps please? Thanks!

Are these the latest for JB?
Google Now does not pick anything for me it just looks like its' searching but does nothing. Is that because of gapps? I flashed the eos ones from 26072012.

Hi, I don't seem to be able to replicate this error with Gnow, I use the eos 22072012 versions.
Check your app draw, if you see an app called 'search' go into its app settings and disable it, then try using Gnow again..
Thats all I can suggest other than trying another Gapps.
Let us know if this helps! Pjflo.
A fix for the video camera is on the way
Oh a new Trinity Combo. Does my search for a new Rom come me to an end? Hope so thanks for this will dl now.

Thanks. Looking forward to the video camera fix. I fixed Google now by flashing the non-eos gapps from goo.im dated 26072012. It works perfectly fine now. So you will be merging CM nightlies weekly or so? At the moment there are not so many bugs so I prefer to stay on this. Thanks again for a great ROM. Oh yes there is actually another bug, just cosmetic, enabling airplane mode still shows the signal bars. Not so critical though.
Thanks for getting back, Yes the plan was to do weekly merges, however this will be dependent on the current state of CM10. So it may vary.
The next build will correct the status bar bug as well as video cam, and bring a few extra cherry-picks.
Also expect a few goodies from us to.
Hope this answers your questions.
PJflo.
Nobody has brought navigation bar modification feature yet. Glad to see you guys importing it, if you think the same.

Update !
1) Gapps: The proper way to dirty flash Gapps is FIRST the GAPPS then the ROM. For a clean install you flash the ROM then the GAPPS.
-- Why? Vanir supports automatic Gapps restore. If you dirty flash the ROM first it resurrects dead libs + other Gapp taint
2) Any problems with dialer/phone, clear your data in dialer. .

Advisory - Stick to the latest builds . Older builds prior to 02-01-2014 either have no 3G , no telephony and going further back have sdcard0 mount issues . Stick to the latest builds !!
I recommend installing DHO's current gapps found here http://www.emccann.net/dho/5-Gapps/44Current-DHO-GAPPs.zip
The DHO gapps work great and are custom created , very nice . Other gapps do work such as PAgapps . Experiment with gapps as you please and at your own risk .
Recently I started running Vanir and Commotio on my Galaxy Nexus . They quickly became my favorite ROM of choice for that phone and then I discovered they were building nightly builds even for the EPIC 4G Touch but no one has maintained it .
I was actually shocked to discover these builds . I originally went to Vanir and DHO to beg them to build for our phone and stumbled across this article . It was interesting at the time but the Rom was riddled with issues related to our device
such as broken telephony etc . Thankfully we have come a long way with DHO's efforts .
http://true-android.blogspot.com/2014/01/android-442-kitkat-vaniraosp-rom-for_1357.html
If you are new and don't know what your doing please don't flash these ROMS until you've read through the thread and make yourself aware of previous known issues ..
You can visit the Vanir Community here https://plus.google.com/communities/111378032131473754160 . I'm not sure how much we should ask for help there at this point . I think we need to keep it here for the most part since those guys are mostly core developers for all the various aspects of the rom .
Thanks guys and I hope you enjoy these ROMs
Commotio B-64
Will be updating this soon with new info .

Alright cool, I can tell you that one of the issues regarding the mounting has to do with the recovery. Because twrp detects them just fine on the builds I've tried. Probably the kernel. I've seen this happen to kt before but I'm not sure how he fixed it.

I think its centered around cwm too . . You actually loose the mount when you flash one of those builds and never even have to boot the rom .Just reboot and go right back into recovery and its gone so its nothing to do with the actual rom booting . Think some permission is not being applied in a script possibly ? The fact is every single build after 01-07 . would make you think something in the change log would show up . Also the prior builds work fine with CWM so I don't think its any incompatibility . Just some change that's made it belch . I've flashed all the builds trying to figure it out and Its got to be there . have you piddled with the radio some yet ?
I'm gonna leave the radio alone. Or do you mean data and the sort? Yeah that stuff needs to be messed with. As far as the mounting, I'm sure it's an fstab file somewhere. I have to look.

I haven't tested the GPS either, so check that if you get a chance. it's never too early to test.
I'm working on it today so I might have a build for anybody who's interested tonight. Wish me luck!

Alright sweet. It's building... It'll just take a long while since I have a slow PC (for now at least.) At the latest it'll be up tomorrow morning ^~^.
Thanks guys
[EDIT for those who check back]
Yep it's definitely gonna be an all nighter for me. Forgive me and my old computer. She's a trooper though.
And to clarify I am super n00b at this so please bear with me. I've never even build on top of someone else's rom. In fact this will be the first time building android. Or anything big period.
[/EDIT also so I don't bug people with unnecessary notifications]
Coolness...I'll test. Already have a nand ready just in case!

Do you want this official ? I can make it happen. I was going to make an official one but I rarely touch the epic 4g now and rather let some working on it have it

I'm all for whatever would get these roms to our phones in good order the fastest possible way . If your saying you were going to do that then for my part i'll gladly be a user and tester . That's the whole reason for the thread . It wasn't my intent to get in a good developers way but hopefully to attract someone to it but if you had your eye on doing this then that's great . Had I known you were planning it I assure you I wouldn't have gotten in your way . By all means say the word . Go for it !

WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY BRICKS, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE READ THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS IN THIS POST
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Information
These are the monthly releases of CM with some modifications and touch ups that will be listed below, They are meant for users who want a stable ROM without the need to flash nightly releases and risking a Nandroid, anyone who has enjoyed the stability of my Google Edition ROM should give this a go
all builds have their core features tested (Camera, bluetooth, bluetooth audio, tethering, USB audio, Data, Voice calls etc), I also adb debug each release and look for any redflags, I then set up the phone and daily drive it with a few of my testers and once I deem the release stable it will be posted here.
Note: The CM camera works but it's not the best, SnapCam HDR (Paid app) from the market is much more stable and has a ton more features (these developers only focus on the 4.4 open source camera and making it better), I highly suggest doing what I do and removing the stock Camera and Gallery and using this awesome app which also includes a gallery with more features, myself and ktoonsez swear by it. The stock files are found in system/app.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Features
-CM Stable branch based
-Updated and debloated gapps
- No rom branding - I don't flash my name around in the settings menu anywhere, keeping it stock AOSP.
-Stock CM kernel
-Nova launcher
-Improved CM Auto brightness values (Stock is way to Dim)
-Android L boot animation
-adb shell fixes
-Ext SD permissions added in platform
-Zip aligned
-No extra bloat
-Settings menu revamped and more organized
-Teleservice event notification options removed as they are not working
-Tested by an established developer and solid testers before release goes live to the public
-Enjoy!!
Kernel source: here
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Working:

Tethering

-edited another string in settings>security
-not much else, last build as I think this is way more stable then any other CM build out there.
[B]*dirty flash if coming from previous release is fine, just wipe caches first, no need to flash gapps unless full wiping*[/B]
[B]08/05/2014 stable 2[/B]
-Added Media_RW permissions to the permissions platform to add support for many third party apps (CM has yet to address this)
-CM OTA disabled
-Removed Calendar, grab it from the market so you can get updates via google
-Edited a few strings in English US and English GB

[B]06/01/2014[/B]
I was VERY happy with how 5/31/2014 ran on my phone but noticed a few commits merged last night that were authored by bossman Cyanogen himself, so here is your changelog. I feel like the foundations of this ROM are set now which I knew would take a few builds
so if all goes well with this, I will start bi-weekly releases because I'm extremely sick of full wiping/testing/compiling, I just wanna use my phone as a phone!!
stagefright: yield callbackDispatcher to writer only for video
libstagefright: Fix to handle EAGAIN error on first read to source
audio: mute duration at the beginning of recording
Bluetooth: Fix for device gets stuck in pairing
Bluetooth: turn on lcd during Connection
camera: Disable extra HDR frame on QCOM_HARDWARE - HDR fix for third party apps
appops: Fix WIFI_SCAN AppOp permission index
nxp: Include support declaration for Mifare tags
[B]Everything but the app ops commit was merged into the stable branch of CM 11, these were necessary changed to warrant an update[/B]
Enjoy!

Settings: Allow access for external apps to launch ThemeSettings Fragment directly
Mms: Clear notifications and mark messages read in certain situations
Calculator updated with many new features
selinux: enable support for bionic, add applets in config
Revert "Remove smiley support"
Revert "idmap: Don't log spam "CREATING STRING CACHE"
idmap: reduce CREATING STRING CACHE verbosity
Merged latest cLock widget
Added Stock MMS back in the build as it's theme friendly
Made number picker dialog in MMS and Contacts a neutral gray so no theme will make the txt invisible
Option to show missed notification count in Interface>Statusbar now works for Email/Gmail
Included Apollo in the build to play nice with lockscreen targets, feel free to remove yourself
Removed open music app on headset connect, does not work on most music apps including poweramp

more that I'm probably forgetting but this is the important stuff

SystemUI: Make wifi combo margin themable
wm: Underp menu key release processing (doesn't effect Titanium so don't ask, thats a TB bug)
Fix circle battery opaqueness for the low battery color
Reduce memory leaks by removing all views.
CMAccount: fix setup wizard crash
Themes: Add read/write permissions - 2 commits
Fix broken tags
Remove Status bar notification count checkbox preference <--- main reason for this update, I don't like broken toggles in my settings menus, no idea why CM just leaves them in there, it's rather annoying when there is ZERO java controlling them

[B]05/26/2014[/B]
A2DP: Stop spamming log with buffer size
Make KeyguardMultiUserAvater fully themable

Hi Danvdh, this rom is amazing! Seriously, I like your galaxy experience too but I'm a bit torn at the moment as to where to go. I like what I see here, so me thinks il give this a try for a little while. Awesome rom man!
Ps I'm still experiencing issues with my wife phone, maybe you or another follower of yours may have some wisdom to share.

Anything special about the GApps you uploaded ? I've gotten in the habit of using Banks minimal set of GApps with CM11 on my tablet just to minimize Google's increasing bloat.

Flashed this on my I337M. No issue so far.
Can I safely switch to ART ?
Love the rom. looks like great and it's really smooth but for some reason I don't have any in-call audio. I hear the ringtone but can't hear people speaking and they can't hear me. It was working with my previous rom. Does that rom need a specific Baseband?
Thanks for your great work

My Pandora is usable again!
Thank you so much for putting this build together. I was using your 4.3 Google Edition since 4.4.2 seems to not work well with Pandora. It kept stuttering during playback via wifi, LTE and I even tried different basebands.
I was completely happy with the second release of this ROM, but I've updated anyways. So far everything works perfectly. Awesome ROM as always. :highfive:
-AT&T S4 on T-Mobile's LTE network.
-I337UCUFNC1 Baseband
Edit: I have noticed that if you have the phone plugged into a charger and try to reboot, it gets stuck at the Samsung Logo. Only remedy to remove charger and hold power to turn it off then on or pull the battery. This is a clean install and its done the same with the version before this one.
Just had a FC when trying to set Lock Screen Wallpaper, it get "Unfortunately, com.android.wallpaper cropper has stopped". I can't figure out what I did wrong. Did clean install just as stated in OP. Any ideas?

Wallpaper works for me. Maybe clear caches/data reboot.
Great Rom no issues so far at all.
CM usually took good day to really settle in for me.
Dial Pad sticks
I may try and do another install in case it was bad for any reason, but...
I noticed when I was entering numbers on the dial pad when on a call or selecting numbered options on a call, the initial number I pressed would "stick" and not release (leaving the tone playing) until I enter another number. I rebooted the phone to see if it was just random, but its consistent. This was a clean install of your current as of this post (3rd release).
AT&T S4 properly unlocked and AWS'd on T-Mobile LTE

Enjoy!

idmap: reduce CREATING STRING CACHE verbosity

Fix circle battery opaqueness for the low battery color
Reduce memory leaks by removing all views.
CMAccount: fix setup wizard crash
Themes: Add read/write permissions - 2 commits
Fix broken tags
Remove Status bar notification count checkbox preference <--- main reason for this update, I don't like broken toggles in my settings menus, no idea why CM just leaves them in there, it's rather annoying when there is ZERO java controlling them
every other commit is super minor but we are fully synced up to date with CM

enjoy!
Thanks for this again Dan.
Just to let everyone know, Dan's CM rom is an absolute keeper. Been on his GE rom for many months now which has been brilliant, and i never thought i would come off it until i tried this rom.
Been on it for a couple of days now as Dan was kind enough to give me a test, and all i can say is up to now it is totally faultless! I don't even need to install Xposed/gb any more as this does pretty much everything you will ever need as standard.
Great work mate, and many thanks again

s-view cover calls are proprietary code from Samsung and will only work on touchwiz at the moment, I'm waiting to see if they implement it into 4.4.3 GE because they gave it the shaft in 4.4.2.
I too have been using your google rom for ages, time for a change :good:
ok, thanks.
in which case, would including this app within the rom run any differently than if i just install is the normal way?
https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=org.durka.hallmonitor
have heard great reviews about your roms, as i've been looking for a fairly plain/clean rom that's totally bug free and good to go for my daily driver, but most things i've tried have had call issues or other sound bugs and random reboots. your rom's seem pretty stable by all accounts, but i really want s-view cover to work.
the hall monitor app is the best i;ve tried, but sometimes still a bit glitchy, so just wondered if it's any different including it in a rom compared to installing the apk (and then maybe using TB to convert to system app or soemthing like that?)

Whats the battery life like in comparison to the GE rom?!

What are the main benefits from this rom over GE's?

It's a later revision of 4.4.2, KVT49L. It also doesn't need gravitybox for the goodies, Everything works well, battery is good and it's just as fast. try for yourself mate, I'm enjoying it but that doesn't mean I plan to abandon my GPE ROM, It's just done it's development cycle and I'm waiting for 4.4.3 to do any further work on it. (next decade or century lol)
Some people might prefer google play edition because they want just a vanilla android experience with no extra features, as for this ROM nothing is reported broken, I'm getting better bluetooth performance as well! Camera is looking good, I have no problems with Instagram camera either using both front and back for video and pictures, it seems more and more apps are supporting open source drivers!
So yeah, the choice is yours mate, try it out and if you like it, stick with it, if not just use my GPE, you don't have to worry about it because I'll be supporting both for as long as I have this device (I don't ever plan on selling it if I get another phone, you will probably leave the S4 before I do) either way, I have ROM that makes my userbase happy so its down to whichever you prefer, userbase happy = Dan and ktoonsez happy

it performs very well mate, I'll need to go through a few cycles to know for sure but it's definitely not worse, it also depends on how you setup your kernel settings in ktweaker and what apps you use, some apps ppl need push notifcations wakelock in the background, the more of these you have the faster you will drain, but to answer the question in more detail, if you were to flash this and my GPE on 2 S4's and not install ANYTHING and keep both phones clean with no apps, I'm sure you will see very comparable results, Ktoonsez has been using CM for ages and he get's like 3 days on a single charge if not more... he's OCD with battery life

will perform the same I'd imagine, User app just needs you to confirm permissions, System app automatically approves the permissions, System app might be better for something always running in the background however

To God be the glory, my AOKP Nougat project finally works!
This is not a dirty unicorn. This is the original unicorn, the AOKP. Now made out of nougat! With tons of settings from status bar tweaks to home button remaps, it's all here and ready to rumble! Hopefully more features will be added as the AOKP team integrates the changes to the source.
**** This is an UNOFFICIAL ROM. Install at your own risk! ****

Gapps link:
http://opengapps.org/
-Which I personally tested Pico. Be sure to choose "Arm" and "7.1".
This Rom has been stable for me for the past few days, however, Nougat is new, so be prepared for some little hic-ups here and there. Be sure to follow these installation steps very carefully, as they may be different then what you are used to.
!!!FIRST BOOT TAKES ABOUT 5 EARTH MINUTES TO COMPLETE!!!
Installation instructions:
-Download ROM and gapps, and put them on your phone or external storage.
-Reboot into recovery mode - TWRP (I personally installed this using 3.0.2-0).
-Backup what you had. (Just to be safe.)
-Wipe. (I personally wipe everything prior to flashing new roms, but at least do the basic wipe.)
-Install Rom.
-Install Gapps. - Optional
-Reboot to system and enjoy!
-OPTIONAL - After first boot, then go back to recovery and install the AKLU kernel.
I do not recommend installing superSU on this ROM! SU permission is already built in, and superSU has been causing problems with the rom. Please read the thread for further details.
Code:
What works:
So far everything that I have tried works, such as
- Camera for pictures and video! (See notes for thanks!)
- Phone calls/receiving
- Data 2g/3g/LTE
- Bluetooth
- WiFi
- PTP/MTP
- GPS
- Multi-Window, just long press the "recents" button.
etc....
What doesn't:
- Choosing to reboot the phone sometimes takes a loooong time. It may be better to Power off and then start the phone, which is faster for some reason.
- Still some problems with automatic time zones.
- Let me know in the forums if you find other issues so I can work on fixing them.
This AOKP N ROM was built for the JFLTETMO using modified LineageOS JFLTEXX trees. I have not tried this on any other device, but you are welcome to try it AT YOUR OWN RISK. It should flash on all JFLTEXX variants as well. Chime in if it worked on your device.
A huge thanks to the Android Open Kang Project team!
Disclaimer: AOKP is not responsible for any damages to your device.
All of my work is completely available for any who wish to use or modify it. I didn't make AOKP, the device trees, or vendor blobs. I simply used and edited existing material. A huge thanks should go to those who actually created this stuff.

Notes:
Just a spot for some field notes about the ROM.
Background:
The awesome background was provided by The Quiet Learner, you can see more of his work here:
https://qlfiles.net/
You can also change the background using SWAGGER, to choose from several amazing AOKP backgrounds. Just long press the background as usual, and choose SWAGGER.
Multi-Window:
Open the app you want on top, then long press the recent button, then select the app you want on the bottom. Slide the slider up or down to choose full screen for the top or bottom app. Note: if in multi-window mode, pressing home goes to the home screen, but opening an app causes multi-window mode again with the last app you had open and the new app you chose.
OmniSwitcher:
You must enable OmniSwitcher to use it. There are choices for horizontal or vertical layouts, as well as the "handle" size and color. You can also enable the "menu" button, which may come in handy due to the long press of the recent button being used for multi-window.
Downloading now. will let u know. Also I'm trying to make an aroma zip that will give options for some systemless stuff and possibly a few others. I'll let u know how it works out

Installed and looks really good. SELinux set to Enforced so flashed your kernel and now Permissive. Also, updated build prop for jfltetmo and SGH-M919. Is there a reason that so many user options from MM Rom Control are not included? Informational only I can live without. Does your GPU OC app work on this? I don't believe Xposed will be available for some time yet -technical issues. And, I'm not sure the TWRP app works well with this. The most important things are here. I will test bluetooth connections later. Multi window, not sure if I will use it ??? Adaway seems to fail on N for now. Hope to read other user comments soon.
Thanks for the Great work. And, it is great from my limited perspective.

I do not think a dirty flash from marshmallow to nougat is a good idea, there are a lot of big changes under the hood. Thanks for looking into the systemless things, I know many will be interested in the results!

Thanks DA. Yes, I left the stock kernel with selinux enforcing, as I know that is needed for some of these new apps. The. AKLU is permissive, as you already know. The ROM also has the selinux plugin for kernel adiutor, too. Currently, I need to do some more work on the nougat AKLU kernel before GPU voltage control is possible, but that is on my agenda.
The aokp team builds the ROM control options, but they are swamped right now, so development is a little slow. That's why I added OmniSwitcher, to try to fill in the gap until the aokp teams usual bag of tricks are ready.
Great questions guys! Thanks for the positive feedback!
My big ticket items right now are video recording and kernel development. Hopefully we can get those done soon!

To say, I appreciate the completeness of your replies is like saying the Hope diamond is a pretty stone,
Less the casual observer thinks otherwise. I know this is a really busy time for you ALL and my questions are never a call to action and are only intended to understand if there are technical reasons for a given change etc.
Should I have left SELnux as Enforcing or is this related to apps like Google Pay?
Some apps ask for BusyBox and I am never sure if I should install it or not (i've always had a Swiss Army knife but never found a use for more than a few of the blades). I had a hanging boot problem after I installed and then uninstalled it along with the TWRP app, and I had to re-flash and setup again. I can't be sure the empirical result is/was verifiable. As such, there is more than a little trepidation relative to repeating the experiment.
Nevertheless, I must confess to a certain increased level of cortisol as OS-ROM development proceeds and the 6-10 pins drop into the gutter.
I can only hope the excitement doesn't increase my rheumatoid factor, oh well., trade offs you know. -D
Hello! This ROM is stable or in beta version? Bugs? Thanks!

Great question pickandrew.
I would say it is a higher level beta version. I try to only release things that could be used as a daily driver. The only thing that absolutely does not work is video recording with the camera, but picture taking does work.
There are a few small things that occasionally error, like Bluetooth share, mtp, etc, as listed in the OP. However, these things mostly work, just occasionally error.
Oms?

Great question.
No, no Oms. AOKP is trying to stick with CMTE, and CMTE is having some sort of problem, but they don't want to change everything for Oms, then have to change it back for CMTE.

Short update. I have found this rom to be very stable. :fingers-crossed:
The hiccup I had mentioned earlier appears to be related to trying to install BusyBox as a couple of apps requested. This appears to to be somewhat related to November security updates and the newer toybox use by Google.:crying:
Really super battery life. :good:
Did not test bluetooth yet. -D

Thanks for the feedback darazor!
It appears that the November security updates are also causing an issue with substratum, layers, and CM theme engines. One of those few times that the security update can actually be a step backwards for custom ROMs. Hopefully it will get sorted out.
For the battery life, is it better than marshmallow? Nougat is supposed to really optimize battery saving, I do so much testing, modding, and flashing, I don't get the usual day to day use battery specs.

ALU, I kind of thought that when I saw the oms post and your response.
Battery life is great but as to better that MM -hard to say. I am running with very few apps so as to minimize conflicts/unknowns. And, I usually have Xposed installed, that is an unknown in both directions.
I want to avoid the I wish therefore it is syndrome. So, at the least, I would say it is very, very good. As an aside, it is very responsive as well.
I hope to see other posts because this rom is very worthy of an install. And, the feedback is so useful to us all.

Quick update.
Short test of Bluetooth call via GPS worked fine. Not a long test just for verification.
One other observation that I keep forgetting to mention.
Settings > Status Bar > Battery status style - icon landscape and circle tick options do not work; the icon remains an upright batter. Just for completeness sake.

Thanks for the info D!
I am really glad the Bluetooth is working, especially with all of the mm Bluetooth troubles.
I'll check on the battery icon settings, thanks for helping by pointing it out.
Video recording update....
Hey everybody, just a quick note on the camera video recording situation.
There is a problem with the device trees or blobs that keeps the video recording function from working in Nougat. Hopefully, those that are far more skilled than myself will be able to get that fixed. I know there are several people working on it. I just do not have the skill set to fix that at this time.
That being said, while the pros work on a fix, I have come up with a workaround. (Read: hack.) I am not a very skilled programmer, but here are some screenshots to give you an idea. Essentially, I am opening the camera and displaying it on a surface view, then I am using some low level commands to record that screen. Because of this method, there are a few things to note:
- This app requires root permission.
- Before running the app for the first time, you must go to Settings->Apps, and give this app permission to use the camera, microphone, and write to storage.
- Leaving this app after starting a recording will cause the app to record your screen and save the output as /sdcard/Pictures/video.mp4
- You can choose between 1 minute or 3 minutes, however, you can't change a recording time or stop the recording once it is in progress.
- The camera takes normal looking pictures, but the video looks a little stretched.
- Version 0.8 has no audio recording yet.
This is a standalone app that you can install just like any other app. No zip flashing, twrp, mods, etc. It saves your pictures and video recordings as (#ofmilisecondsofday) .jpg and .mp4 respectively in the /sdcard/Pictures folder. Clicking on the 1m/3m icon switches from 1 minute to 3 minute recordings. Clicking the camera icon takes a picture, and clicking on the recording icon starts a video recording based on your chosen 1m/3m setting.
Anyways, it isn't that great yet, but if you want to play with it, or see a theory to concept, here it is:

New kernel is up in the Nougat Kernel thread!
Praise God, new kernel is up!
Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that the OP is updated with the new kernel, including intelliplug, an alternative to mpdecision for hotplugging. This controls how many cores are used at once. You have to use Kernel Adiutor or some similar app to control it. Intelliplug has several options that show up in the Kernel Adiutor as well. Let me know what you think!

S4camera version 0.9 is up:
MediaFire link: S4camera_0.9.apk
https://www.mediafire.com/download/2xrel675ontbukg
Now you can stop a recording while it is recording!
The record button changes to a stop button during video recordings, allowing you to stop a recording while it is in progress.
There is still no audio recorded, and exiting the app during a recording causes your screen to be recorded.
Even though you can stop the recording, a video cannot be longer than three minutes.
Merry Christmas!

Thanks ALU.
Something seems wrong with new 0.9 .APK It is only 68 Kb vs 1.24 Mb for 0.8 and installer says file is corrupt.
Unless I'm doing something incorrectly. Just thought I'd let you know.
Don't rush to fix, have a great Christmas. -D
