Cant use volume rocker Lockscreen - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I have CM11 installed and I can't seem to use the volume rocker while i'm in the lockscreen. Is there a solution? Am I missing something in the settings app?

Do you mean media volume or ringer volume? Last time I checked, ringer volume cannot be changed straight from the lockscreen aside from the power menu's options (silent, vibrate, ring).

Are you trying to navigate between songs perhaps ? Like @tonytien said, we need to know what purpose you were trying to use this multipurpose button pair.

Nahh, I'm just trying to perhaps change the volume of my ringtone while using the volume rockers, I know I could do that when I was with stock rom and when I was on 10.2. Maybe it's a bug or am I missing something inside the settings.

I haven't used 10.2 enough to know since I've only used 11 with most of my time in the CM world. If ringer volume on lockscreen was ever a feature, it might have been removed. You could check the Buttons section in your settings, I think.

Repurpose the Volume Rocker

Any way to make this do something outside of volume?
I never change mine (outside of vibrate mode which I use a widget for anyway) and figured I'd see if I could get anything useful out of it.
Does you used rocker for navigation and music volumed?
I don't know how I would use it for navigation, but I don't really ever need to change my music volume, and if I did I use audiomanager.
I'm interested in ether keeping the buttons from accidentally changing my settings, or finding a new use for it.
it would be sweet if you could use it as the shutter button in the camera app
bumping this to see if anyone has any ideas. I'm sick of accidentally hitting the vol rocker and changing my ringer volume.

[Q] lack of volume lock for the rocker is quite annoying!

Is anyone else genuinely annoyed with the fact there is no volume lock option on this device? When I want to lower the volume with the rocker on say the lock screen, only the ringer volume goes down, and I have to click the gear icon to manually adjust the volume for the notificatons/media/etc.
I know there are manual volume profile apps/widgets out there, but maybe I'm just old school and want to use the rocker to adjust my volume down for all possible audio output at once.
Any workarounds known out there?
I miss something like the iphone silent switch but it's something we just have to get use to. Simple sound widget seems to do nicely. I just pull down notification bar click it and chose from custom profiles.

[Q] Link Notifcations and Ringtone Volume

I'm starting to get annoyed of the fact that i have to got to the setting to change the NOTIFICATIONS volume, where as i can adjust the RINGTONE volume just by using the Volume rocker.
Is there a way to do this without installing any app, i can live with flashing MODS, TWEAKS, or ADD-ONS...
When you turn up/down the volume in homescreen or just outside the apps dont you get expendable bars for other volumes?

I was looking around for a way to do this last night and came across "Settings Extended" in Google Play. You can link Ringer and Notifications through the app, which changes the way the rocker works since when you adjust the Ringer Volume using the rocker it now adjusts notifications too.
I also added a Wifi Hotspot toggle and Flashlight toggle to my Notifications bar for easy access to those options through the same app. Pretty pleased with it.

I was hoping for a TWEAK/MOD rather than a new app... anybody?

Sprint S9 Volume will not adjust ringtone - only adjusts Media (option is unchecked)

When I first got the phone it was hit-or-miss if the volume keys would adjust the ringtone volume, then there was a software update and everything seemed to work right. Then there was another update and now, no matter what I select, the ringtone can not be adjusted just by pressing the volume buttons...I have to press the button (which adjusts the media volume) pull down the media notification to expand the volume sliders, adjust the ringtone volume manually.
In SOUNDS AND VIBRATION, the "Use Volume keys for media" is unchecked.
I'm stumped. Has anyone else seen this?
BTW, this phone is from Sprint and is still bone stock.

There is also a toggle for that option under the volume sliders of the actual expanded dropdown when you hit the volume button, not sure if these two are linked, I would imagine so but toggle it on off anyway

Thanks for replying, but I just as I finished writing this question, there was a software update. I installed that, and guess what? My volume issue was fixed. I guess I wasn't the only one with this problem.
Oh, by the way, that toggle you spoke of was off in both places.
TL;DR: Volume rocker only changed media volume no matter the setting...ended up being corrected with latest software update.

Ah well at least it's fixed :good:

volume rocker for ringer?

So is there no way to change the volume rocker to be used for adjust the ringer volume? Or there is am I'm missing it somehow?
Unfortunately, Android 9 changed the volume rocker function to control media volume first and only. Without a button mapping app, there is currently no way to switch it back. Could likely be done with a zip flashed in TWRP, but that isn't available yet. You're not alone in your disappointment.

And here I thought Android was supposed to be top dog in user experience and customizability over iOS lol
