Google play store? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I am new to android in general, but I am finding my way around. I side-loaded XBMC, and that works like a champ so far. Is side loading the google play store an option?
Thanks!

Nope, most of the Google Apps don't work due to the way they integrate with Android, which is stripped out of the Amazon build.

Google Music/Google Books updated

So I just noticed this (and it was not there this morning at around8 when I looked at updates)
Both Google Music and Google Books were updated but they also come with name changes. Google Music is now Play Music and Books is now Play Books Along with the name changes comes new Icons for them now also. Not really sure about the name change (since I just got them installed and just now starting to play with them) figured I'd let a few ppl know incase you didn't look.
Play Music is now v 4.1.513
Play Books is now 2.3.5(20305)
Nice find!
The name change has to do with Google recently having a bunch of site domains registered under "Google Play". Speculation is that it's for the nexus tablet coming out.

Ah interesting. So far music does seam a bit more smooth (on FB27 will test it with FC05 later today once I have it installed) But noticeably smoother scrolling of the list for sure
Google is changing the name of the Android Market to Google Play. Everything exactly the same except the name and logo. This is just the beginning of the changes.

According to Engadget, it'll be called the Play Store lol and, as mentioned above, it'll come with Play Books, Play Music, and Play Movies. GPlay FTW!
Oh, and they're gonna have a "Seven Days to Play" sale, so look out for deals in the near future
Google really needs to standardize the Games experience.
Call it "Google games" and have it associated with your Google account (G+)
One user name for all online games.
That would really help the games aspect of the market.

The new market/google play is supposed to be going out to gnex right now. Has any one got a hold of the apk yet?

[Q] Sideloading apps and Google Play

Hi guys
I was given an apk from Gameloft as a "gift". It is normally a paid app on google play. Is there a way to have the play store recognize my app so I can install it from there going forward?
Thanks!
As far as I know, Google Play will recognize the app even though you've sideloaded it.
You won't be able to get upgrades from the play store, but it will recognize the app is installed.
Thanks much =]
Too bad I'd love for the play store to be my one stop shop for the app going forward

So noone is able to log in? :crying:
you can't log in on the official app, but there is other ways, such as using the YouTube channel on Plex. This is because YouTube uses the google framework, and the OUYA doesn't have it.
Or install it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43253639

aaa ok, unless rooting and a little bit of work it wont work, but this does not stop ouya or someone else to build a youtube app?
Or does youtube demand this framework or is it just needed for the android youtube-apps that are currently out there?
I bet we'll see something official, but who knows. YouTube is owned by Google after all, so if they have any ill feelings towards the OUYA (which I do not believe they do, but others aren't so sure) it won't happen.

I was able to sign in using plex, but it doesn't really give you access to your account (or maybe that part is broke). You should also be able to login using a browser, but that might be more work than it's worth

Xbmc login works OK. Just not as flashy as the YouTube app.

XBMC Frodo, straight from xbmc.org/download.
The Youtube Plugin... well, not really sure on the details on that... I'll check the info on it. But it was actually automatically installed when I installed the 1Channel plugin. So whatever that is.
here's what it says in the info for it:
type: Media Source
author: TheCollective
Version: 4.4.4
cheers.

I think the youtube I plugged in was just the regular one that is there to choose from once it's installed, but I could be wrong. It was really late the night I setup my XBMC
Does anybody know what additional packages (besides the one needed for Google Play Store) the Youtube app depends on?

As far as I know, that's it, just the google architecture.
Also, the XBMC youtube is working pretty well, just use XBMCHUB Wizard and it'll be preinstalled.

The XBMC Youtube Add-On works just fine, but I don't want to start XBMC each time I want to watch a Youtube video. I am able to start the Youtube app though, but then an error message occures (forgot what it was about, something about not being able to log in, if I'm not mistaken)...

Yes, I've been doing so for a few months now. But I cant use the remote to navigate, have to use Droidmote for that. I wonder if the AndroidTV has a nicer version to use on non touch devices
Which version of play music do you use? I am able to sideload the app but I can not log in. Is your ftv rooted or have you installed Google play services?

Wrong thread... For Q&A Help there is a thread for it... http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/helpNever mind.. Thought this thread to be mostly about non-store apps. Guess it is for both... My apology @mag13 .

Hi everyone, I looked around and found lists of working apps that can be sideloaded
I wonder if there are anything similar for games? I recently purchased the Amazon joystick but couldn't find any good fps or war action game in the Amazon market

I was hoping for a larger list of games though. Any FPS games known to be working?
I also found this for emulators snes, nes, gba: http://deanvaughan.org/wordpress/2014/09/amazon-fire-tv-nes-snes-and-gba-emulators/
But Im looking more for newer android games like modern combat etc
