[Q] Logitech Bluetooth Keyb. doesn't do foreign lang. characters (ö, ä, ü) on Android - General Accessories

I got a Logitech Bluetooth Keyboard (K810), English keyboard layout, which I would like to use with my Android smartphone (LG G2). The pairing of the devices works fine, but I can't get it to display German language characters such as ö, ü, ä etc..
Those characters, however, work fine when I use the keyboard with a Windows-PC, after having changed the keyboard-language-settings in the OS.
Is there a way to do the same thing on Android?
In fact I would need to be able to toggle between the two languages (Eng & German), since I prefer to use the English-keyboard-layout when writing in English and the German one when writing in German. That's easy on Windows, just press the Windows-key together with Space, but how to do on Android?
Any idea how that could be accomplished? If toggle is not possible, then I would prefer to permanently change the keyboard input language on my LG G2 to German.

I had a similar problem. Updated my LG G2 to Android 5.0 but no help. I cannot find "Android keyboard" setting. I did find that on one of my tablets, and that one worked.
I installed External Keyboard Helper Demo (then Pro: 2.49 euros). It helped. Even then I had to select
Settings > Language and Input > Default (sp?) > External Keyboard Helper Pro (or Demo)
It is not enough to select EKH elsewhere, I had to be select EKH as the Default too before äö started to work.
How to get that "Android keyboard" option (not just "LG keyboard") without EKH?

Yes, I also got it working after I installed the full version.
However, I don´t fully understand your question from above. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

If I have EKH keyboard as the default, I have to select LG keyboard as the default (which takes some time) to be able to use the phone without the external keyboard. Therefore, EKH does not seem to be very useful (it is almost worse than not having an external keyboard).
So I wish that when the external keyboard is not connected, the internal (virtual) keyboard should be usable (without that tedious manual selection). How to achieve that?
I believe that my external keyboard should work automatically and without EKH. Some other devices do find and use correctly my keyboard. They have the option "Android keyboard" besides "LG keyboard". I don't see the "Android keyboard" option anywhere.

Have you been able to pair your Logitech-keyboard with your phone using bluetooth?

If yes, you could simply set the normal keyboard at default and activate the Logitech-keyboard only when you need. This can be done easily by first activating the soft-keyboard by clicking into the text-filed. This will open the soft-keyboard. Then pull down the notification-bar and click on "Select keyboard" in order to change to the Logitech keyboard.
It is correct, it works also without External Keyboard Helper.

Changing HARDWARE keyboard Qwerty -> Azerty

Hi,
How can i change QWERTY hardware keyboard to AZERTY (not layout in rom),k hardware changing ?
is there a way ? i need this to..
Hi,
After installing a dutch ROM, your machine only recognises "QWERTY".
It is easy to switch to "AZERTY" :
Physical keyboard (=hardware keyboard) : you need to install the cab-file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5496980&postcount=938
Virtual Keyboard (= keyboard on touchscreen) :
When keyboard deployed, click the arrow next to the tiny keyboard onscreen. It will show you some options. From the dropdown menu, select the second from top item (which should be "Nederlands" in your case) and choose "Frans" instead. Unfortunately, by doing this, you will loose the auto-correction function for the Dutch language.
If somebody has a BETTER solution, I will be glad to read.
Have you tried the rhodium key controller. It is available here on xda. you can change any key to any function.

How to switch to Chinese handwriting on official Froyo ROM

Hi,
I upgraded to the official Froyo ROM. I see the options for the Chinese handwriting, but I can't find a way to switch to the Chinese handwriting mode.
Please help.
1. Ensure you are using HTC's stock keyboard, then only:
Press Menu, select settings > scroll down > select Language & keyboard > select Touch Input > select International keyboard > scroll all the way down > select 2nd last chinese word.
You're done!
You can configure simple chinese or traditional chinese in the Chinese Text Input option
If think he is talking about actually drawing the characters.
Hi,
The problem is that I can see that there are many different Chinese input options but the handwriting option is actually missing! Is this a know bug? Any workaround?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Any update on this? Really quite odd that the options are there yet one cannot select the handwriting keyboard.
It seems hand-writing only works in Contacts..
I have been looking for the Chinese handwriting option all over too.
In the Settings / Language & keyboard / Touch Input / Chinese Text input, there is a Handwriting options section.
Lets say I go back out and write a SMS, there is no way to select handwriting mode. I have already enabled all the Chinese input methods. However none of them gives access to handwriting.
Am I missing something? Or is the handwriting feature missing from this build?

Here what i have done to make touch input working:
Setting / Language & keyboard / Touch Input / International Keyboard / Tick English and PinYin and HandWriting (tick all the options except this one: stroke input)
and then make sure you have no other input method installed, at least if you have others installed, you can touch the input area on the screen until a window shows up that tells you to choose one of them
I got Chinese handwriting keyboard option now. It works exactly like the HTC Desire HD now. Chinese character recognition is extremely good. It is now available in MCCM's HD v2.0 Desire HD build. It got released when I wrote my previous message.
It can be found at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=856312
The build has some nice new features. It has a few minor issues like the default skins are missing. I always customise so that does not matter too much. It is still a battery hog. It does not seem too stable as it has rebooted back to WinMo twice so far. Overall, the build is still very nice.
Previously, I was using MDJ's v4.0 build of the Desire HD rom.

I have four chinese input options: zhuying, changjie, pinyin and bihua.
but none of them is handwriting... the "bihua" is for you to choose, not write on the screen...
Please help.
p/s: sorry for hijacking the Desire forum as my android is Desire based.

chinese input on android

how to get chinese input in android? I am new to android.
I just downloaded google input IME from market place and installed, it is enabled in settings(languages), but keyboard did not change in messages and browser input. why?
any other apps will work?
The default way to change input method has been changed in ICS. Instead of long pressing at any text entry field, In ICS you will see a small keyboard icon in the left corner from the status bar when the keyboard shows up, then you can pull the status bar down and change the input method from there.
Google Pinyin IME is average. Some better options are sogou input and touchpal input. Sogou does not support ICS at this moment. But touchpal V5 works flawlessly.
I actually set default keybord to google pinyin, but then I cannot enable default english keyboard. what if I want to try other chinese keyboard? is there a way to enable multiple keyboard?
What if I want stock ICS keyboard to have Chinese? Any way I can do that?
I really like the stock keyboard and I don't want to use third party keyboard if at all possible
Also looking for this option....Surely there must be a way to switch to hand written chinese input via the stock ICS keyboard right ??? I realise that 3rd party apps are available but they are all terrible IMHO. Looking for something similar to how iPhone handles Chinese input....any ideas / suggestions ?
i'm using penpower, it not made for ics, as the writing pad does not fit the whole bottom half of the screen, but it works.
updated, just installed the ics version.
google voice input is the best. i use HK traditional.

touchpal is good too. they got chinese pack and handwriting pack.
go to System Setting > Language & keyboard > System Language. Then, scroll down and check PinYin option. You can choose handwriting too.
Later, when you're at a text box you will can toggle between English and Chinese using a "EN" key at left side of your spacebar.

[q] change language via physical keybaord

do anybody knows what keys to press on the physical keyboard to be able to change the input language?
i have Hebrew keyboard as well and i couldn't find any way to change the the language input on physical keyboard.
This is a limitation of the Android OS - you cannot change the language of the physical keyboard that easily - I never found a way to do it, but theoretically it would involve access to the software or a configfile for the text prediction so that it suypplies cues from the physical keyboard to another predictor for another language
Long-press individual keys for alternate letters, and there may be an app for converting the physical keyboard, but it will almost invariably require root. I would also try finding other nationalities who accomplished this and learn from them. -Ara
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
as the mapping using the virtual keyboard of AnySoftKeyboard supports physical keyboard mapping i mange to make it work only when i change the virtual keyboard to Hebrew first and then slide the keyboard out.
this is very inconvenience cos every time i want to change the language i need to close the keyboard and switch to virtual one, change the language and star over.
maybe there is a way to add input option via the power button? like using jkay deluxe or something?
I can tell, how this problem is solved in case of russian layout, but not sure, if it works for hebrew.
Root, then use an app, called Keyboard swither from market.
After that, I installed the special verison of Russian keyboard, that had a layout, compatible with glide.
This version can be downloaded from here
the problem with keyboard switcher is that he just put an icon on desktop.
if i'm using sms app i need to close it to use the switcher, so its not the solution i need.
thanks for the help tough, we need to find a way to make a shortcut via combination of keys
to achieve this, maybe a script for int.d that can apply shortcut function on physical keyboard.

Oops, sorry, i've named the wrong app, its called Keyboard manager (com.ne0fhykLabs.android.utility.kmLauncher).
How it works: it sets 3 types of keyboard for every device status - landscape, portrait, and the slide out one.
So, if you set the apropriate keyboard with a right layout and ability to swith languages via alt+space (like russian keyboard), you can use your HW keyboard with right char set (the software keyboard itself is hidden in this state).

Yep, it does. I use it at ICS rom with no problems.
anysoftkeyboard doesnt work for arabic
Thank you for sharing this, this method is great! it works for me with bulgarian keyboard but it doesn't with arabic.
Is there anyway I can use the physical keyboard to type in arabic?
are you on ICS or JB? cos if you are with stcok GB you wont have the arabic fonts.

I'm on ICS, I tried go keyboard with the same method it worked but its showing lots of non Arabic letters, probably Farsi or Urdu I guess, I'm still looking for another keyboard with physical support, I just looked at the language packs of AnySoftKeyboard, they say that they support physical keyboard mapping for Hebrew and Russian and probably other languages but not Arabic
If you know any other keyboards with multi-language physical support please share.
you should try it with anysoftkeyboard anyhow maybe it will work.
unfourtantly i don't know about other keybaord that support mapping of physical keybaord escpasly our right to left languages.

[Q] How do you change keyboards?

I'm on the current 1.54.651.8 (well, a rooted version of it), and can't figure out how to change input methods, for example, to a 3rd-party keyboard.
It used to be, you'd long-press in an input field, and you'd get a prompt to select the input method.
Some say you should see a keyboard icon in the status-bar.
I don't get either of these. In settings / Language and keyboard, there's no obvious way to change the default device.
Long-press on the spacebar also does nothing (except to repeat space).
Is this maybe broken in this update? (Or in the BadSeed Rooted Stock 1.54.651.8 I'm running?)

If you get SwiftKey keyboard as you set it up it will say set as default might work
Hmm. Well, that worked.
The SwiftKey setup popped up the Choose Input Method dialog that I was looking for.
Then I selected Smart Keyboard as my input method.
I can't see uninstalling/reinstalling this every time I want to change the Input Method though.
Bring up a chat so your keyboard is open, then bring the notification bar down. There should be a keyboard listed, select the icon and choose your input method
