I've dropped my phone to water and it was working for some moment's and it got shut down.I dried it and i tried to press power but it didn't react at all and it's not turning on now.Do we have something on our phone that can prove that it was exposed to water ? Or is there something i could do to fix the prob ? Also only half of the phone got into water.And it vibrated once after like half an hour by itself,and i heard some weird sound from phone for some time.

My friend with a S4 had same problem.
How he fixed it was that he shut his phone off and left it in a bowl of uncooked rice (or use any dehydrator) for 2 or 3 days.
This is just advice and I've never experienced such issue.

Well, uncooked rice is good, its an easy alternative. Whats even better is silica gel. Its not easily available unless you're working in chemistry lab or have friends that do. For silica gel, you can heat up the silica gel first, let it cool and put your phone inside the silica gel and let it be for 2 hours, even better if you remove the simcard and memory card tray so that the moisture can secape from inside the phone. You can try opening the back cover, only if you know how. Actually you need to open (I cant explain it here) the bottom rounded cover, then slide down the back cover then gently pull it out. For silica gel, a few hours should be enough. Longer is better. For uncooked rice, I would suggest a few days.Longer would be better.
Its really best to remove the battery of a phone, but in our phone case, its a bit difficult unless you know how to. At least you can put some insulator between the power contact between the battery and the phone.

I think you should use the rice method to remove all traces of water left in your phone.

As we have said, leave your phone inside a bowl/box of uncooked rice, its a good humidity absorber. That will absorb almost all the humidity inside your phone. Don;t turn it on until then. You don't want anything to short circuit inside your phone. Silica gel is whole lot better than uncooked rice, but it can be hard to find.
Hardware button's doesn't work too so i can't wake it or turn it off..It was in rice for good 8 hour's and today I will return it to service.I think digitizer,microphone and hardware button's are the only thing's that doesn't work atm.
I was just listening to music when it fell in the tub filled with water(obviously). My initial reaction being the idiot and panicky me is to try if my phone is still on, and it was. then the battery drained so quickly and then i clicked the shut off button and it went off. I tried the rice method overnight. Nothing happened. Does my phone still have hope or should I let go? please help

Yes, i know, stupid move.
Got it out right away and dried it up with paper.
When i try to turn it on it gets past the T-mobile white screen to the green windows mobile one and then the screen shuts down but the keyboard is still light-up.
Does anyone know what i should do in this case? This happened 5 minutes ago and it's still drying up. Anyone have any tips?

Take out the batter asap and leave it out for around 3 days. Next, put the phone in some sunlight or some rice to dry the water out. After that you can try putting the battery back in and hope it's back alive.

I got it under my lamp right now which emits a reasonable amount of heat.

Everything seems to be working fine... except,
it shows as if the cellphone is plugged in and charging when it's not.
Battery went from 89% to 100% with the cell just sitting on my table...
Anyone has any hypothesis on how that might have happened?

Well electricity and water are never a good mix, i droped my first pay and go "Nokia Ringo" down a toilet "not my toilet even worse" and dried it, it was under guarantee so just phoned up Nokia didn't tell them what i had done just stated it wasn't working, sent it away and got a replacement.
I have to say I think you should have been a little more patient. I know its hard but this has happened to me twice, once with a Magician and once with an iPaq. The first time I panicked and turned the device back on to see if it was working. It spluttered to life and then died - never to work again. The second time I removed the battery, left the case open, etc for two full days and when it came back on everything was fine.
I know its so hard to leave your device off when you are panicking. But if this only happened last night you should really consider giving it at least another 24 hours. Even though it may appear to be dry now there is obviously still some small problem with power discharge - and if that problem is due to even a tiny bit of moisture near the battery it could rapidly turn from a minor glitch into a full scale breakdown.
Actually the fact I am so damn clumsy probably explains why my first post to this forum concerned backing up my phone! LOL

I had my phone out under a tarp when it was raining - but water found its way and had a few drops sitting on it. I couldnt use the up, down or the in between enter key. Now the down key is coming back - but not the other two options - and it is having small issues like not always shutting the backlight off, or scrolling when Im not trying to.
I took it all apart twice to make sure there wasn't any water in it - and other than some mild moisture - it seemed okay.
Am I out of luck with this phone getting back to normal?
Is there anything else I should try?
Take the battery out and, leaving the battery cover off, leave it in the airing-cupboard for a couple of days to SLOWLY dry out.
Rain water should be okay, there are usually too few dissolved minerals in it to crystallise on the board and bridge gaps between tracks but damp and volts don't really play together nicely.

i work around water all the time and water gets on my phone all the time and this never happened to me i dropped my phone in a puddle of water and nothing happened

Agreed, my phone has been through gallons upon gallons of water, and have never had a problem xDD
I accidentaly put my rhodium in the washing machine (forgot to check my jeans pockets) and it was in there for a few minutes.
When I noticed I took out the battery, SD card and sim card and dryed everything with a towel. I then put it in a bowl of rice for day (read that tip online somewhere) to drain out any excess moisture.
It seems to be completely dry now from the outside, although I can't say for sure about the insides. It still won't turn on.
Any ideas? or is my brand new Rhodium dead?

Sounds to me like you need to make use of that insurance policy that you sensibly bought for your TP2.
I read somewhere on xda forum that sometimes wet devices would turn on after a couple of days...
If you're not in a hurry, maybe wait some time... but don't hope too much

btw, if your phone is "ON" while in the washer...forget about, get a new one.
One thing to try, sometimes batteries will self destruct and save the phone. Get a replacement and see if it powers up, I know that worked with one I took into the pool a couple years ago.
A hiardryer on very low heat setting normally works quite well for removing moisture

White rice trick
Here is a trick, take out the battery and put the phone in a bag of white rice. Make sure it's completely covered with rice!. Leave it there for at least 72 hours.
This trick worked on my wife's iPhone. It was revived after being completely dead for 3 days.

one of my phone fell in the toilet once, i removed the battery and took it apart and the washed it with alcohol [not the drinking type] after a day drying it worked just fine.
some phones will work without the battery if connected to the charger. You could try that to see if it's the battery. If you're willing to take it apart there's a spray technicians use to remove all moisture. I've been told never to apply hear (so if you use a hairdryer use one with a cold setting), and yeah, just wait, make sure it's gotten rid of ALL the moisture, and hope for the best. If all the moisture isn't gone, you could short circuit it by trying to turn it on.
My charmer fell into the toilet one evening when I was very drunk. It went of immediately but being too drunk I took it home and left it as it was. The next morning I gave it the hairdryer treatment but it still didnt power up. I threw the phone under my bed and left it for dead. About 4 nights later I woke up at night and I saw 'the light' from under my bed, on closer look my charmer was miraculously switched on. I tried to charge it but it just showed a red light. Later that day I tried again and it started to charge.
The phone went on to serve me without any problems for about 6 more months and I eventually sold it for £80.
Moral of the story; You could get lucky (fingers crossed)
The water itself does not cause the short circuiting. You need purified water to cleans it from the salt and other particles that cause the short circuit.

But considering that almost no one has truly pure water running through their washer etc, I just simplified. But the reason why you shouldn't apply heat is due to the catalyst factor of heat. Water and metal don't mix (rust, oxidization), and applying heat can accelerate that process. The end of the story is to get it truly dry, don't apply heat, and keep your fingers, toes, and eyes crossed.

This is true. While it is possible to safe an electronic device after a soaking for a while, once it has been doused in water, unfortunately, its lifespan is already shortened. If you get it working again, it might last a few months, or even a year. But eventually, corrosion WILL claim it. It might be possible to open it up, and clean every contact, every piece of solder, copper or electronic pathway. If you do that, then maybe you can keep it from corroding.
My roommate lost his phone during winter. Come to find out, he had dropped it in the snow When it melted he found it. It was dead for a few days till it dried out. Then it worked again for about 5-6 months then finally died completely due to corrosion.

Saved about 10 different phones, some multiply times and many other electronic devices, from pools, ocean, garden hoses, sprinklers.
Most important thing is to remove the battery, IMMEDIATELY. We are talking seconds the better, don't think, rip it out. The battery will power up the short circuits and cause the damage. Leaving the battery in for only a minute may be enough time to fcuk something.
Ok preparing
Disassemble the phone as much as possible, the more the quicker it will dry. If the water was salty or dirty , wash them under the tap trying to get into everything.( I am serious)

Test you oven temp is accurate from 40c to 50c with temperature probe. Set temperature to 40c to be safe, 50c if your in a hurry, 45c would be safe, but it's an oven it may randomly jump up 10c??? hence 40 is safe. Around 50-60 some plastics start to deform, ( this I have learnt first hand).
OK spread the parts out on clean metal is best or ceramic plate/s and place the plates in the oven.
Drying time. Depends on the parts and how big they are and if water could be trapped in them.
Bare, open parts, no touching surfaces, keyboards can be pricks. 2-4hours at 50-40c.
Touching parts but nothing complex, i.e. no water stuck between the keyboard parts. 6-9 hours.
Whole phone 1-2 days.
Thanks for all the tips guys. It's still drying out now in a big bowl of rice. I'm going to try to turn it on again tomorrow. A friend of mine has one too, so if it fails to work I'm going to try his battery to see if that's the problem.

There is water behind the screen though (or between the casing and the screen). Do you think that'll just dry out over time, or do I need to take it apart to wipe it off?
Last night i was in the bathroom, and accidently dropped it in the sink, It wasnt submurged under water or anything, it had a light splash of water near the charger port, the sticker under the battery is slightly pink. The phone works fine. No problems. however when i plug it into my computer, i cant turn on usb storage, but it will charge, also I tried winamp yesterday and it synced my phone and copied all music to the phone.. What should I do? I could swap the phone out but the problem is it's rooted, and if they find water damage they said theyd charge me 200 bucks. What should I do? Could i call HTC? :/

I did leave it in rice for a about 6 hours, i noticed the battery seems to have a water damage sticker on the bottom of the battery and it didnt even hit that. the water damage seems to be minimal

Well if you can live with your phone the way it is then just do that. If not then pay the deductible and get yourself a new phone.
I may consider just keeping it, I mean i could just use dropbox to sync. Maybe it will come back to life.
EDIT: WOW. my usb is connected!! wow. dude. wow. sounds like a troll post but it's working again. this is insane. i just blew in it with canned air and it started to work.
You probably blew some water droplets off of where they were shorting a circut perhaps dried it id still be careful

I'd leave it in the rice with the battery out for as long as possible. It may take a few days for the water to dry out.
I went swimming with my phone once, for a good 5 minutes before I realized what happened. There was a nasty buzzing noise (I though it was an insect).
I dropped it in rice, stuck some packets of dessicant in it (the packets they put in shoe boxes and electronics) and it functioned for a month. It then died completely and I had to toss it. This was the Nokia 5300 from back in the day.
So I dropped my phone in my bath
It was in the bath like literally 1 second or such and I grabbed it out real quick. The screen was on all the time until I pulled the battery
I immediately pulled the battery out and cleaned the outisde with a towel.
After an hour or so I inserted the battery and it came up with the white screen itself(i didn't have to push the power button myself)
Then i waited and it got stuck on the second bootscreen(past the white HTC logo)
Then i pulled the battery out and back in, now the only thing it does is give me a red led.
Have I killed it by trying to power it on? I should've had put the phone in a bowl of rice.

Let the device dry with the lid and battery taken off, preferably near a heater or something.
Or use a dryer with lowest heat setting.
After you have dried it, put it in the freezer for 30 minutes. That should freeze the remaining water particles. Try to boot afterwards.

After I dried it with the hairdryer I 'accidentally' put the battery back in and the screen turned on.(first I had no screen, only red led).
But I immediately pulled the battery out again. Does the fact that the screen still turns on indicate that it is probably possible to make it work again? So you say put it near a heater and then 30 minutes in the freezer? With that you mean without battery, sd card and sim card?
I'm gonna try that after I take it out of the rice.

I mentioned putting the phone in the freezer without the battery because extreme temperatures damage them.

Not sure if you guys are kidding about putting electronics in a microwave...
The only proper way is to disassemble the phone and let it dry. Then clean it with a contact spray maybe.
I dropped my DESIRE 3-4 weeks ago in the f*cking toilet.
What i did was:
pulling out the batt
cleaning the phone with antibacterial wipes
cleaning the phone with contact spray
leave it for 2 days(just in case) to dry
..and now my phone works fine.
PS: you have NO idea how much water was inside the phone, despite it was with TPU cover, and dropped in the water for not more than a 1-2 sec.
NEVER EVER rely on drying it just like that

I somehow don't think its the heat the key is in the name MICROWAVE
There'd of been sparks flying everywhere in the microwave.

Congrats on drying it out.
Be VERY careful with heat -- that's what kills things worse than water IMHO
I also have a "Drowned Desire" (cdma kind) my freind gave it to me she dropped it in sink.
Instead of rice I used the dessicant packs you get @ the ammo store. Set the phone battery out open side down on top of the dessicant and another pack on top then set the shoe-box on top of the hot water heater (it's warm-ish, and dry, area)
Left it for 5 days and it worked

I got a friend's desire so now I have two of them. Anyway, it is working again thanks to the rice.
