Have you found a trick to improve firetv experience? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

While playing with your firetv have you discovered a way to make its use easier? If so let us hear about.
My example is using voice search. I discovered search will work for apps as well as movies. Say Netflix and you are taken to Netflix app. Great way to bypass interface.
Also if your home port supports newer features, you can be watching normal TV and you press search button it will switch to firetv allowing you to then say command "Netflix" and you are at the app. This is a magnitude faster than any other method I've tried with other devices. I'm talking seconds.
Let's hear your top.

For me using a custom launcher has been fantastic! I can't stand the Amazon user interface. It's just plain awful! I've been using Apex Launcher and it works beautifully.

Task Switcher
I could not find a task switcher app that worked.
Then I found my wireless keyboard fly mouse could do it using alt-tab.
Great for Nova Launcher & XBMC.

Launch XBMC from an Existing App on the FTV Home Screen
After installing XBMC I hated going looking to the Settings > App, for XBMC. Luckily I was able to setup Llama App to launch XBMC from the FTV Home using an unused app "Classic TV". It works like a charm and now I can launch XBMC or another sideloaded app from the FTV Home screen.
From XBMC Wiki for FTV: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Amazon_Fire_TV
Launch XBMC from an Existing App on the FTV Home Screen
There is a alternative way to invoke XBMC from the FTV Home Screen using Llama. This method uses a “sacrificial” app that you have installed from Amazon that you will use to access XBMC. The app can be anything you have installed but don’t need to use; however, some apps behave better than others (some apps will enter a loop when exiting XBMC). One app that has been tested and works well for this purpose is “Classic TV”.
The advantage of this method is that using the sacrificial app you have Home Screen Access to XBMC and you can exit XBMC to the FTV Home Screen just as you would any other FTV app.
4.1 Prerequisites
Llama side loaded on your FTV. From: http://kebabapps.blogspot.com/
The app called “Classic TV” from the Amazon app store.
One Llama Event (described below).
4.2 Procedure
Install / side-load Llama.
Install “Classic TV” app from Amazon app store.
Launch Llama (From FireTV - Settings > Applications > Llama > Launch Application).
Go to EVENTS on top menu and click '+' to add a NEW EVENT.
In your NEW EVENT select ADD CONDITION then, from the Menu select 'Active Application' and select 'Choose App’. Scroll through the list of apps until you find “Classic TV” and select this app. Doing this should return you to the Events Menu.
Next, select ADD ACTION and select 'Run Application' from the Menu list. From here, select whatever the name of your XBMC build is. That should create your event. At this point you can also name your event to distinguish it from others.
Now when you start the “Classic TV” app from the Home Screen, it should automatically open XBMC. Feel free to experiment with other apps from the FTV app store. Just be aware that some will loop back and re-start XBMC when you try and exit XBMC to get back to the FTV Home Screen.

Does it automatically open Netflix when you say Netflix?
Or does it come up with the "suggestion" of Netflix and you still need to press down arrow and select?

[Q] Pin Sideload Apps to Homepage

Hello All
I know the Fire TV is still very new. I have sideloaded some apps and currently using Llama to mask my sideloaded apps on the homepages so I don't have to manual launch them from settings. Is there any way yet to add applications to the recent or apps pages?
I have heard that if you sideload an app downloaded from the Amazon app store, it shows up in the recent list.

FireTV apps do not open

I mainly use my FireTV Stick for Kodi. I download ikonoTv so it may show up on the most recent tab. I used the Llama app to kill the app and automatically start kodi. I also used adbfire to change the apps icon to Kodi.
In the last couple of weeks, ikonotv updated to a new pink icon and the kodi icon was removed. I decided to download and install the Amazon Appstore from Amazon.com so that all my apps are viewed from the main launcher screen.
Ever since installing the Amazon Appstore I am not able to use any Amazon apps that I have downloaded such as ikonoTv, Netlfix, etc. nor can I download any apps.
How can I fix this?
Uninstall the amazon app store

New to agk download

Hi there.
Was hoping for a little help with the agk side loader app that I have downloaded.
I have selected to install/push showbox and it says on my tablet that it had completed it.
What now though... Should I see the showbox app in the fire stick?? I can't see an app for it in my tv.
Sideloaded apps will not show app in regular launcher home screen. Check the settings -> installed application section. There you should find all installed apps including sideloaded apps and from here you can start the app if it is properly installed.
Have a look also here for a launcher replacement which does also show sideloaded apps:

iKono TV lo longer availble for download?

I recently noticed iKono TV is not in the app store anymore. How is it that people are creating shortcuts to kodi on the home screen now? Can we choose another app and apply the kodi icon to it?
I thought Llama app was dead too, as far as I know you need the Llama app to create the fake shortcut, anyway I started using Firestarter a while and deleted those apps for good.

Philips PUS7304 - adding Chrome to the application launcher

Hello everyone!
I managed to sideload Chrome browser to my TV (for some reason it's not on the AndroidTV app store) and it works great, except I don't get an icon in the app launcher after installing it.
I am able to start it (by selecting Open) immediately after installing it, but I have to reinstall it to use it afterwards.
Any ideas/suggestions on how I could add it to my app launcher? Or how I can bind it to a button on the remote?

Install side launcher, it is just a folder with apps
Install activity launcher then you can open (activity launcher) and open any other app's launch activity to launch it.
I went with Sideload Launcher - it worked perfectly. Thanks for the tip!
