[Q] Disable auto-updates without market - Paranoid Android Q&A

It just drives me crazy to have apps auto update especially on expensive data. For some reason my stock market doesn't work anymore at all in my phone, I tried to install a fresh download of market but still wont help so I removed it permanently from system apps and the phone became free of the so many force-close errors I was getting with most apps and runs very smoothly. I usually get apps through apk downloader. Am using sdext2 for the installed apps. Is there anyway of disabling apps from automatically updating themselves but have internet access for social media apps?

Problem solved, I got a terminal command that does it perfectly.
mod you can delete this now

[Q] Unable to install Apps from market

I am unable to install apps from the market. I can access the market and select the apps but all I get is starting downloads which doesn't change even if I leave for hours. I have WI-FI enabled and can access the web with no problems. Here is what I have tried already.
Clear Data in Downloader,
Clear Data and Cache in market
Factory reset
Flashed to CyanogenMod 7
and I still cannot download any apps.
If you have s-off you could try deleting the market.apk file and then reinstalling from a non market source? If you search xda I'm sure I remember several threads about this.
I had this problem a few times. Have you recently changed your Gmail (If you use Gmail) address from @googlemail to @gmail? This is what caused the problem for me and many others...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I never did work out what was causing the problem. I installed CyanogenMod 7 and all is work again.
Yea, sometimes just a reflash fixes the problem. I also found that, sometimes, the download would just finish but never actually install - almost as if the .apk downloaded but the Market Process just never actioned the new .apk to open, so it just sat in /cache until the next reboot, doing nothing.
log in to google talk...i think that should solve the issue.

[Q] Google Play Crashing!

Hi,
Today, I decided that I wanted more internal memory space so I ended up deleting and reinstalling Google Play, as the Convert To User App option within Link2SD didn't work as it said something about can't finding Certificates; something like that.
Anyway so now when I go to install an application, it simply crashes and doesn't work. It loads fine; just doesn't download anything.
I've tried clearing Data & Cache for both the Google Play Application and the Download Manager Application.
Any ideas?

[HowTo] Fix for new Playstore, Play Services, Maps and Youtube draining battery.

This is a workaround to fix the battery drain caused by the recent Updates Google is installing on our devices.
The main culpid for causing this battery drain are the new Play Services, which are getting autoupdated everytime you have a internet connection, but also the changes made to the PlayStore, Maps and Youtube.
To get rid of all those wakelocks caused by these apps and so almost all the time keeping your phone active, I came to a workaround which still allows you to use the Playstore and apps like Maps and Youtube without causing such a huge battery drain, even if Network Location is still keept enabled.
So what you need:
1) A modified Playstore which doesn´t update itself and the Google Play services. http://uploaded.net/file/n0qykeja
2) The older versions of Play Services, Maps and Youtube. https://www.dropbox.com/s/p7fsu00r3zhat0l/google-fix.zip
3) App Backup & Restore and Root Explorer.
First disable all internet connections like WiFi and Mobile Data.
Then go to Settings> Apps and search for Google Play Services, Maps and Youtube. There delete the cache and data for those apps and uninstall them. For the Playstore just delete cache and data.
Open Root Explorer and install the Installer for the modified Playstore you downloaded from the first link.
After you installed it, launch the installer and select the very first Playstore offered on top. This will patch your Core.jar and replace your Playstore with the modified version.
After you got your Playstore replaced you can uninstall this installer again or keep it installed if you whish to revert back one day.
In CM9 open Root Explorer and go to System/Apps and delete there the Market-Updater.apk. (In CM10 it´s not present)
Now copy the Apps from the secound link into your App Backup & Restore backup folder.
Open App Backup & Restore and restore the older Google Play Services, Maps and Youtube.
Reboot your device and accept all the services.
Enable your internet connection, Launch Playstore and disable there all the notifications and autoupdates.
Just in case recheck if the Play Services didn´t got updated again. In this case go again to settings>apps and repeat the step above to delete Play Services. Finally restore them once more with App Backup&Restore.
Now you can use Maps and Youtube like before but without all the wakelocks keeping your phone active.
Last but not least greenify apps like maps, youtube or for example facebook.
This is a temporaly fix as long Google doesn´t fix this battery drain issue again.

move as many as apps to external sd card.(which can be moved)
i uninstall apps which i don't use often. cleaned some junk & memory from CleanMaster App.

Restart phone
download any app from playstore, it won't show any downloading status till 5 mins but will start automatically by then.

Can't Uninstall Apps from Play Store (and more frequent app update/install failures)

Hi there,
Recently I saw that I cannot uninstall apps from the Google Play store. Usually when viewing an app that is installed on my device, there are options for "open" or "uninstall".
The "uninstall" option is not present right now. I noticed this only a day ago (relative to the post date of this post)
The only major changes I know I have made to my device are that I moved a few apps to the "2nd partition" of the SD card via Link2SD, and I put a large amount of videos on the main partition of my SD card (though I don't know why this would affect Google Play not being able to uninstall stuff)
I have a rooted Tab S running stock (no custom ROMs), and I am running Lollipop and have disabled OTA updates
Any ideas?
I am in the same boat RE missing the uninstall option in Google Play Store. I even did a clean re-install of the ROM (IronRom 2.5) I'm using, with no success.
Hopefully the option reappears again soon. It's a pain to have to uninstall via settings.
EDIT: Also having the same issue on my old Motorola Xoom tablet that my daughter is now using - running OmniRom 4.4.4.
Have you done anything like moving apps using Link2SD or anything?
I think this could be a cause for this problem...
I recently uninstalled Link2SD from my device and since then the Uninstall option has come back in Google Play
