Words With Friends - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone with the LG Gpad 8.3 tell me if the Words With Friends app displays in portrait mode on the Gpad? On the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 it dispays only in Landscape and it's hard to play. Would there be a difference between the Gpad 8.3 and the Google Play Edition? Thanks.

Guess nobody plays Words.

Just installed it to test it. It only works in portrait mode.

Thanks for testing it for me. On 7 and 8 inch tablets I think it works best in portrait.

Do you have the regular Gpad or the Google Play edition? I can't decide which one to get.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium

I have the regular one. It is cheaper than the GPE one and if coast is a factor in your decision that would be something to look at. It is a nice tablet and does what I expect a tablet to do.

Thanks for getting back to me. The regular LG Gpad seems to be getting all the development too. I ordered one from Best Buy today. It will be joining my two Nexus 7's and Asus TF300 tablets.

My LG Gpad 8.3 arrived this afternoon. Several hours later I had it rooted, and flashed TWRP and Slimkat. Coming from the Nexus 7 the extra screen space is much welcomed. I have noticed the screen colors are much warmer than the Nexus 7...whites are especially noticeable compared to the Nexus 7.

nexus 7; galaxy tab 2; moto xoom 2. select the one which fits your budget and interests
What's your budget? What size?
I'd say get an asus padfone or transformer prime, if you're on a budget get a nexus 7!
Have read frequently about screen separation issues on the 7 so do your research.

Just rumors but Google may release another tablet by the end of this year speculated to be around 10 inches with 3g. So either you could wait or just get your self e.g. a galaxy tab 2

Try the Galaxy Note 10.1, or wait a bit for the Microsoft Surface tablet
And if you don't know the specs of Nexus 7...... You are probably living under a digital rock
I'd say go with the Nexus 7. Best bang for your buck.

You saved me some typing. ^
I'll also add, it fits nicely in the ol' pants pocket.
Love at first touch!
My first Nexus device and I'm really liking it do far. I must admit I do miss some of the functionality of Touch Wiz. But this tablet is a beast and a feast for the eyes. Really looking testing the multimedia capabilities of the tab.
Yep.
Nice price.
Looks cool.
Its google. It'll get updates as long as it can run them.
Dev support is likely to be off the hook until the next one is released if not longer.
No. Never with any device will I ever be satisfied because I love to tweak. I will always need just a few more MHz, or a touch faster I/O, or Tablet UI. But this is a Very nice tablet for it's form factor

Sorry to be a little off topic, but can someone give their personal opinion compared to the ipad3? I've been using the ipad3 for a while now and its very responsive in a lot of ways, especially when using chrome. My galaxy s4 seem a tad bit slower on the touch in chrome, so I'm hoping the nexus 7 would be as good as the ipad while using chrome or other browsers.

Because it plays on a device thats made by samsung and it doesnt on a device google is selling.
I TiBu'ed from my Evo 4g LTE which is the adreno version and it works fine on my N7. I suspect texture issues are because ppl might be pulling it from non-adreno devices and trying to use it with the N7
I pulled mine off of my Galaxy S4, which is Adreno. I get the texture issue. I tried an apk I downloaded and that worked just fine. Strange.

If having a retina type screen is top priority the LG G Pad is a winner. I personally have had bad luck with LG phones so I am reluctant to try their tablet.

G pad 8.3 to tab pro 8.4......

Hi guys I have a black g pad running cm11 which I'm very happy with BUT I also have a note 3 in black that I'm even more happier with.... So is it worth the upgrade to a black pro 8.4 ? I'm hoping there are users here who have made this exact jump and who could share their experience. Cheers guys.

I miss a lot of the LG apps but yes, it's worth the switch. The screen is far brighter (my biggest peeve with the gpad when watching movies). While I totally love my gpad and will miss it, the screen was an issue. The screen is bright and wonderful on the tab pro 8.4, as is the performance and battery life.
Same as cmscritic. I too loved my G Pad but the screen brightness (especially with movies) was a drawback to me. I also have the Note 3 and the Pro 8.4 looks just like a blown up version with new ui. Another build of Cm11 was released today and it looks like he fixed bluetooth so I'm fixing to give that a try. Go with the Pro , you'll never look back

I honestly don't know whether or not it works on any UK tab pro 8.4s. I know that there are 3 hardware revisions and the latest one definitely won't work (they have different kernel source for the USA vs. European editions) but otherwise the source code is looking the same. I'm going to try to get them all working soon.
At some point, I'll be asking for brave people to test builds that I can't myself test.
