Strange connection problem - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Since this evening I have a very strange problem that bother me and I don't know how to fix it.
My Galaxy N7100 won't be reconized by the pc!
When I plug in my phone I Windows does nothing.
But what's very strange is that I still can use ODIN on the PC.
I tried to connect my N7100 to my brothers laptop and it also won't be reconized.
Windows don't do anything, like there's nothng in the USB port.
The problem has started when I tried to update SuperSu to 1.97 then I've got a message that it fails and that I must reboot my device, so I did.
Su binary wasn't updated so I donwgraded SuperSU to 1.94 again but I lost my root. So I flashed back to stock rom. And that the problem happened.
I can flash my N7100 back to stock again and again, but my problem isn't solved.
My Note isn't recongized on both Windows pc, it acts like no device has inserted, it does nothing!
Strangely ODIN works!
How can I fix this?
I realy want my usb connection between Windows and my note back

Phone not recognized by PC after root (but still rooted)

So here's the story:
1) Phone worked flawlessly before root. Did an OTA to stock 4.1.1
2) Flashed CWM with Odin v1.85 --> removed battery --> worked without issues
3) Applied SuperSU v0.87 and this didn't go without issue. While in CWM before the reboot, there was some extra prompt (I have rooted a S3 before and did not receive the prompt) however I cycled too fast and I don't think I hit the right option. The phone rebooted anyway and I had root so I didn't think anything of it.
4) Wanted to add files to my SDcard a couple of days later and the phone didn't show up in My Computer (yes USB debugging is enabled, tried all USB ports, changed cables, uninstalled and reinstalled Samsung drivers, I've never used Kies to do anything with my phone - disabled it from the start)
I thought I should revert to stock and start over so I booted into recovery and CWM wasn't there anymore but I still had SU access. I installed Mobile Odin and placed CWM (the .tar file) on my internal (Placed on SDcard --> moved with My files to internal) and flashed CWM and while I didn't see any errors, now I'm data wiped/factory reset but I still can't boot into CWM, I still have SU, and my phone is still not recognized by my computer.
Anyway for me to fix this issue?

Sigh...
Go here and follow the instructions. My 10 year old was able to do it without an issue.

Reload the samsung drivers on the computer and boot into download mode. After loading the root66 version via odin download Rom manager from the store and load cwm.
Sorry OP but I does anyone know a way to connect to a PC without install the samsung drivers? I'm asking because I don't have permission to install anything to my computer at work. I've tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711009
and this https://play.google.com/store/apps/...9pZC5tdWx0aW1vdW50c2RjYXJkLndpZGdldC5mcmVlIl0.
but still no go. They all treated my SD Card as CD drive which can read only. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply and I apologize if I wasn't clear but I was attempting to use Mobile Odin (my first time) because my phone was not being recognized by my PC and thus desktop Odin wasn't working either (even after reinstalling drivers and booting in download mode which I tried before posting).
However, I did find the answer eventually. If people have problems losing CWM after root, the error I made was not extracting the image file from the .tar before flashing with Mobile Odin. I eventually returned to stock but that didn't solve my PC not recognizing my device until I found this:
1. Uninstall any previous instance of Kies/USB driver
2. Download the latest Kies, specific to your S3.
3. Download Samsung USB drivers 1.4.6.0 (I've tried newer versions but they all failed)
4. REBOOT
5. Disconnect from internet (VERY IMPORTANT!!! - forcing Windows to install local drivers ONLY)
6. With the phone disconnected, install Kies + USB drivers downloaded in steps 2,3
7. Connect the phone and let Windows install the drivers.
8. Reestablish the internet connection.

I didn't bother with Kies and obviously used the latest Samsung USB drivers. Problem solved!
Perfect.
Sorry if I sounded a little short. I am glad you found the solution.

Probably best if you ask in your devices forum if you think it had to do with how you rooted. They'll be more familiar with it and any problems that can occur.

The only thing I can say is to uninstall kies, install standalone USB drivers (try both the latest and the older version released for your device on Samsung's site), reboot pc and phone and try to connect again.
Good luck!

[Q] Download mode doesn't detect any USB connection whatsoever (drivers installed)

Hi,
after getting my Note 2 LTE back from repair (they changed the mainboard, speaker, vibrator and USB port) I'm now trying to root it using Odin 1.85 (have tried 3.07 too) and CF Auto Root. The problem is that neither the phone nor the PC detects any USB connection at all while in download mode, ie. it doesn't even pop up with a driver request or anything. Device manager doesn't show any change in devices either. In this case the old "nothing happens" truly applies...
I've tried with going into download mode with voldown+home+power and with 'adb reboot download', with the only difference between the two is that when using ADB it doesn't display the white text in the upper left corner.
The PC runs Windows 7 (I used this same machine to root the phone when I got it back in November, and I haven't changed anything on it, other than the usual software updates). I've tried two cables that both work when connecting the phone while booted normally. The one I'm using now worked fine to transfer about 1 GB of pictures back to the memory card.
It's running the latest 4.1.2 (JZO54K.N7105XXDMC3) and is fully charged.
EDIT: I've now tried with uninstalling Kies and the Samsung USB drivers completely but the problem remains.
Thanks,
Magnus
Note 2 Android 4.1.2 download mode connect to PC
I have the same problem. Although your post is old, yet unanswered, I'm not sure if im posting correctly, or must create a new thread.
I connected my Note 2 to PC-USB during download mode. Also no action, but device manager showed a yellow triangle, while Odin running and pointing to a file for rooting.
I read in a post once that upgrading to Android V4.1.2 prevents rooting. How can I degrade it?
Phone connects successfully in normal mode.
Samsung Galaxy Note 2, SGH-T889 of T-Mobile (locked to carrier). Android V4.1.2
Tried on 2 PCs with Windows 8.
Also tried turning phone on to Download Mode after plugging it to USB.
I tried unlocking it, the unlocking software required phone to be rooted first!

PC not detecting phone.

Hi i have always been able to connect my phone to my PC but one day, my PC suddenly does not detect it, I tried to reinstall samsung kies but its still not working :/

Problem: Can't connect my phone (Think is soft bricked)

Hi!
Got a problem with my Note II.
First, think my phone is softbricked, that's how all started
So i follow a guide here in XDA.
But i can't connect to my phone.
i have installed SAMSUNG USB DRIVERS, restart my computer and so on. when i connect i got - Unknown USB Device (request for device description failed)
u have tried on my pc with 2 different cabels, one of them av NOTE 4 original cabel and the second a noname cabel.
I have also tried on my laptop, same there.
Tried install KIES to get usb drivers there, but nothing
But in ODIN i got "ADDED!", but fails when i du the recovery from XDA thread.
I neither got my device in devicelist in ADB.
i can start into ODIN MODE.
But when i start my phone i got "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. PLease select recovery mode in Kies & try again.
is my phone totaly bricked?
sorry if my english is bad!

[Q] USB stopped working after failed odin flash

Hi, I recently tried using a stock image with odin for my galaxy tab pro 8.4. Odin started flashing but failed when sending system.img.
I tried this process twice and got the same result even using a different USB port in may computer and a different cable but, after the second try (and as the first one I disconnected the computer and restarted into download mode), the tablet usb stopped working.
When I connected it in my first two tries, I got the typical windows sound when you connect anything in the usb, now I dont get anything and not even in the device manager. I tried with another computer and got the same problem, no usb connected sound and nothing in device manager.
My device is now stuck in odin mode. If I try to reboot normally I get into download mode but with the message "Firmware upgrade encounterd an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again".
I have tried deleteing de drivers and installing kies but still nothing.
Can you help me please?
Nevermind

For anyone facing this, you have to wait for the tablet to run out of battery and then connect it again to the computer. It will be detected as before.
