[Q] Touch to focus and 120 fps supported with 4.4? - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Now that the Xperia Z1 Compact got Android 4.4 updates:
Is there support for touch to focus while taking photos.
Is there support for 120 fps video recording?
I am thinking about buying this phone and both these features would seal the deal for me.

120 FPS recording is about to be ported (work in progress!) so in a few days maybe it's going to be fully functional. But you gonna need to be rooted for this!
What exactly do you mean by touch to focus? You mean to tap on an object on the screen then it focuses and takes a picture? If yes then its available!

So it's not officially supported but ported from Z2? Can you please provide a link where I can follow the progress?

I'm afraid I didn't use the proper term. What I actually meant, I just realized this, is "touch to set exposure". Basically if you make a photo with backlight you can touch the dark object and the exposure is increased or you touch the sky and the exposure gets decreased. I watched this* review and the reviewer was showing this feature on the Nexus 5 and then went on to say that the Xperia Z1 compact does not have this feature.
*I can't post links directly. Use this in a Youtube URL: watch?v=mgKzbCdIVto#t=795 (it's in russian, but the timecode is directly where he shows what I mean)

No it's not officially supported. You can follow the progress in this thread. Right now it's almost fully functional only bug is the steady shot feature in 4K mode, but I can live without that to be honest.

Sorry to tell you, but I don't think this is feature is available for the Xperia Z1 Compact. It may be software sided so maybe if you install the same camera app it will work? I don't know.

If your camera lens is not clean then try cleaning.
Otherwise video recording bug is the hot issue in JB update.

ok my lens is clean and i noticed one thing more if i disable image stabilizer there is a minor improvement and it is focusing a bit quick........
but i would say that focus issue is also present in xperia t and sp as well....i have watched videos on u tube..........
Yes, it is annoying
Has Sony release some information about the bugs in the .200 and .211 JB updates? It's annoying as hell being unable to use the full capabilities of my phone.
i really feel strange that why sony dont give attention to these problems...... Sony is a big name in Imaging World but sadly their devices are not upto the mark.... .Look at nokia ....Wow .! How best hardware they Made ...specially Camera...:good: i hope they will use android in upcoming years...:fingers-crossed:

It's not almost impossible. It IS impossible. Our hardware is WAY too weak to record anything at 120fps. Even Xperia Z probably won't get this.

[Q] Timeshift video and 4K video recording

Hi guys, I know that some have port the functionality from the Z2, but my question is, will there be any official release for such function in the future for the Z1C? I know it is capable, but the question is, will we get it or not officially? thanx in advance.

Snapdragon postet the difference between 800 and 801:
QTI’s 3rd Generation LTE modem, with support for RF360 and popular requirements such as LTE-Broadcast and LTE/3G Multi-SIM
HEVC 1080p support
Support for larger, faster camera sensors and improved image post processing
Maybe you don't get a liquid 4k experience and you don`t get the full 120fps in timeshift.
So it is possible, that Sony don't want difference in their App Specification.
But i would be happy, using Timeshift video, even if it has only 116 FPS or less.

First you have to look at the Android API for the camera:
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/media/camera.html#intent-video
and
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/media/camera.html#camera-features
For example Timelaps would be no problem to realize with an APP. Because its an API Feature.
For SlowMotion you need a workaround, because Android (in this case the API) do not allow this kind of command on the camera.
A Possible solution is to manipulate the System, for example with root to push our own library into the System.
Slow Motion Apps in the appstore are nothing more than recording with normal speed and slow it down afterwards. (Maybe there are Apps with root, for real slow motion)

I only know the Sony app, as real slow motion.
Because you need root for slow motion, i would try the Sony App. There is a thread in XDA with all Sony camera apps.

Dual Shot on Note 3 Neo?

I went through a few review sites and YouTube videos before buying the device and I saw Dual Shot in Camera Modes there. However, I didn't find it in my phone's Camera Modes. Why is that :s
One of the links is attached below.
http://www.techtree.com/content/reviews/5896/review-samsung-galaxy-note-3-neo.html
Camera
The Note 3 Neo sports an 8 MP camera with BSI (Back-Side Illuminated) sensor. Like most Samsung phones, the Neo lets you snap pictures while recording a video. This feature comes in quite handy.
You also get different camera modes including Dual Shot, Drama Shot, Cinema Shot, Sound & Shot, Eraser, Best Face, and Beauty Face.
Can you guys please check your Camera's Modes?
theres no dual shot in note 3 neo.in future updates maybe
no dual shot, no slow motion too. I'z sad.
hopefully in the next update! :fingers-crossed:

Just click the Shutter button and keep finger there till all 20 pics are taken. Once you go to the gallery, you will see an icon on Pic, which will play the Slow-Mo video.
Is this a h/w limitation of camera sensor or has samsung deliberately crippled down the software features of camera in Neo variant ?
Sorry to hijack your thread but I didn't find macro focus as well in the camera app by Samsung [emoji32]

Yes that's true sire, I'm only hoping since there is a missing Display Option Mode feature too, and it was present in GSMA's Neo review. :silly:

Third Party Camera Apps for Z5C

The general consensus for this phone seems to be that it sports top-of-the-range photographic hardware but is sadly let down by poor software support and Sony's aggressive noise-reduction algorithms. As this is a software issue, it may be possible that enhanced image quality could be obtained using third party apps. So far I have noticed some differences between apps and thought we could maintain a list of some of the best here:
- Camera FV-5 Supports 23MP but seems a little unstable on the Z5C with FC issues on some camera features
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flavionet.android.camera.pro&hl=en_GB
- A Better Camera: 23MP support plus "DRO - Dynamic Range optimization"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.almalence.opencam
- HTC Camera: 23 MP support
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/htc-co...-camera-new-8-10-748210-android-apk-download/
- ICS+ 1.7: full resolution supported
https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&s...Ts4WT4m0RHMx-2a1Q&sig2=A-U3oWedOs0SxvoUmzIwHg
- Cyanogenmod camera: Third party supporting full resolution on Z5 Compact. Slightly buggy on our phones but shows that it can be done! *edit - not working on MM
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/cyanog...a-2-0-005-04864afef4-00-android-apk-download/
- Camera Super Pixel: Takes burst photos can combines them into higher than native resolutions composites. On the Z5C camera it can achieve 32MP rear camera and 20 MP front camera!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...9mp-camera-t3322562/post65509846#post65509846
Please post any apps you find with enhanced functionality over Xperia stock
Here is my test of the Super Pixel Camera - definite improvement over stock front camera, although still getting thrashed by Sony post-edits:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByO19bEKY9TKZ2tWSTY1SzV3M1k
(5MP Stock Xxperia camera on the right, 20MP Super Pixel Camera on the left)
Sorry about the horrible "selphy" photo but the difference was most noticeable on the rear camera!

The apk is attached in the Op of that thread.
BTW this app makes way better photos. But really only flattens the image, doesn't really get higher detail. I'll take it over my textured and fuzzy stock camera though!
Hi, I'm one of the developers of the app. New version is compatible with Sony Xperia Z5:
Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anforapps.camerasuperpixel
Thanks for all the feedback!
What's new:
0.9.2
Fixed autofocus issue (better focused rear camera pics)
Compatible with OnePlus 2
Compatible with Sony Xperia Z5

Balls, cheers for the heads up - I'll change the OP
I'm currently playing with open camera with API 2.0. So far it works but i haven't really compared to stock yet. I have noticed the camera button, the first press for focus causes a never ending focus loop... But tapping the screen works fine.
I had used "A Better Camera" with my previous phone for a while. It can perform "Dynamic Range Optimization" automatically after each photo is taken. The night mode is pretty good as well.
Ofcourse the issue is that Sony has not provided a FULL camera2 api implementation so you are limited. I sometimes still use ABC, when I'm taking a still, however it is quite slow compared to the native app with just starting and taking photos.
I use Cameringo+. I guess it was the best I've used with Z1 Compact and it kinda stayed with me. Truth is that the Z5 Compact camera is much much better. So I don't think I need live filters anymore.

So Is there way to remove the blocking of full camera resolution on z5c for 3th party apps?
