VOLTE - T-Mobile HTC One (M8)

Is it capable of Tmobile VOLTE? If so is it a hardware thing and can work regardless of rom (in my case 4.4.3 gpe)? Or must I use sense?

T-Mobile just released VoLTE in San Francisco. You have to wait until they release it in your area.

It is actually in a few places now. My question was if our HTC m8 supports it

HTC One M8 does support it and it works great for me on T-Mobile's network. If you are using the stock rom, there will be a little "HD" icon at the bottom right of the contact image when you make a call on VOLTE. It's also only supported with other phones that can do VOLTE, so keep that in mind.

Is it ROM dependant? Do i need to be on stock sense?

I think you are describing "HD Voice" (where both ends of a call use a different codec that sounds better).
VoLTE is where the phone uses the LTE data connection for a phone call (like WiFi calling, but different).
As far as I know, VoLTE is not currently available on the M8. It is not known if a firmware update from HTC can bring VoLTE to the M8, but I sure hope they can.

Note3 supports it which I am not sure if all snap800 SOC's support it. I would venture to say that 801 and beyond will for sure though. But OTOH, knowing carriers and their greed they might advertise some other phone as the first to support it and not enable on a phone capable of supporting it.

What's up with T-Mobile? My city is already lit up VoLTE already and I can't use it. It's only for Note 3...I try with SG4,M8 and z1s no go.

[Q] Using the Modem of this X with ATT's X? Possible?

Just curious about this question - because I would really want to use this with T-Mobile.
So, a few days ago I noticed that an aquintance of mine was using an ATT Samsung Note with T-Mobile. I asked him - but you are only getting Edge (2G), right? So he says - "No! I flashed the GSM version modem, and I am getting HSPA+ (4G)", or whatever you call it.
I was shocked! Amazing solution.
Do we have this?
Thanks
No. The AT&T model is completely different in terms of SoC.. their radios will not work for us. You can do like I am and use it on T-Mobile with an accompanying hotspot. Really not bad.

Thank you ! So making calls, texts, MMS is all fine, but DATA will only work on EDGE (2G)?
Also, what is "hotspot"?
Thanks again!

Yes sir, and I have found 2G is not nearly as bad as I once thought. A hotspot is just a device that gets 3G and broadcasts it as a wifi signal that your phone can use for data. On the T-Mobile website they are under "Mobile Broadband"

Enabling band 2 for tmobile m8

Does anyone know if flashing super cid then flashing att firmware will enable band 2 for us m8 users in Cincinnati? Band 2 is enabled on the att variant m8. If not us T-Mobile users in Cincinnati are screwed. Thanks to anyone who may reply and possibly help.

I don't think that would work, as the hardware isn't there. However, I don't know why you think that we are screwed. T-Mobile isn't going to deploy LTE on a band that their phones don't support.

Easy tiger. I actually live in Cincinnati and did some reading up on it, and it does seem they are using a mix of band 2 and 4, and for whatever reason t-mobile decided not to have that band in their version of the One. Poor choice on their part, and a shame for us that have one. That said, I still don't think it's as simple as enabling it in software (though I wish it were).

I didn't want to come across rude. I'm near cincy also. But I speak to an engineer daily for our area. He stated that lte in Cincinnati is on band 2.

I've gotten most of my information from howardforums, but the consensus there seemed to be that a lot of the city was, but that some of the outlying areas used band 4 as well. I live in NKY and go over to Eastgate regularly, and I would love some LTE, but I may just have to wait for the m9 for it to happen. That said, I don't know that LTE is even rolled out very wide so far, but I'm not sure.
Yes, this is an issue
Yes, this is an issue for those of us with a T-Mobile branded One M8. I have recently witnessed my M8 on Edge signals in Charlottesville, VA (where band 2 LTE is being rolled out) while my wife's OG Moto G LTE gets band 2 LTE. I'm trying to do the research to figure out hardware configurations of the phone, etc. There is a thread here with an M8 radio collection, but nobody seems to have posted yet that they have successfully enabled LTE band 2 on a T-Mobile or GPE One M8.

should i purchase the international or USA version of the note 7?

in terms of rooting which version should I purchase? I heard that the USA version has a locked bootloader which means it is not rootable correct? Is it impossible to unlock the bootloader unless Samsung does something or..? I would assume that since people are going so far as to refund their phones instead of waiting for an unlocker to be released if that is even possible.
I'm waiting to buy international version of phone with Xynos Chip and no AT&T bloatware. We will probably get better battery life and faster updates. We will lose HD and Wifi calling but no biggie IMHO.

Having done development work in this field, I feel obligated to tell you that's not exactly true. Hd voice consists of two voice codecs - AMR Wideband, and AMR narrowband. These codecs do not explicitly require VoLTE to function. In fact, you can make "HD Voice" calls over 4G HSPA/HSPA+ using the narrowband version of the codec.

Yeah everyone dumbs down their definitions for the general public.
Basically, telephony in general has always had an 8khz spectrum width for audio. This was manly due to the fact it's small and low bandwidth. With the advent of 3.5g (hspa/hspa+ and lte) bandwidth is drastically increased. This allows for a doubled (16khz) spectrum width as there's plenty of bandwidth for it.

For AT&T and Verizon, correct. T-Mobile uses HD Voice over their 3G network, and you get better sounding calls when talking to another T-Mobile subscriber (I understand they will eventually bridge HD Voice to other carriers). VoLTE for T-Mobile (Advanced Calling for VZW) allows you to keep your LTE signal while on a call, as opposed to dropping down to 3G.

Singapore here. Singtel.
Would love to get international variant if it works with Tmobile.
I can purchase an international version on eBay, there is one currently for 789$ but there is only gold platinum available and the seller ships from NY.... i want to get this but unsure if it is a fake phone or something ><
The Phone may be region locked. Mine (South East Asia) came with a card that says, the Phone needs to be using SEA sim card for the first boot up.

I'm in the same boat, $789 seems lucrative, but no warranty so not sure should take that risk or not. I'm waiting for B&H to go on sale at least they provide their own 1 year warranty.

If there is a ROM for your region/carrier (or at least one that plays well with your carrier), you can try it to see if VoLTE works.
VoLTE is a little complicated and jumbled. Carriers seem to be deploying it in different ways. For instance on US AT&T, you pretty much need an AT&T based ROM for it to work, far as I know. And not all ROMs even have the option to turn on VoLTE.
Not a great answer, I know. But that as much as I can tell you.
thank you, actually i dont knw what's.. LTE is working but to make a call or to receive a call i need to keep Internet on, which leads to draining of battery faster. since my mobile supports VOLTE in at&t i though i can do something to on....

You can try flashing the AT&T stock rom backup in twrp. Even I'm using an AT&T M8 and I tried almost every custom ROM but each of them only shows the
volte icon in the status but it doesn't works. The only way is to flash AT&T STOCK ROM BACKUP if you're s-on ... If you're s-off then you can use the RUU.

Enabling AT&T Advanced Calling Features?

I bought my s9+ from Best Buy and threw in my AT&T sim... everything works (though my signal seems weaker than my iPhone had) except for there is no advanced calling menu. I'd like to enable HD calling and WiFi calling if possible. Does anyone know of a way to do so?
Thanks!

apparently if you flash the carrier's firmware (assuming you bought the unlocked version of the phone) then you can get the wifi calling features for that carrier. There are a bunch of threads that have d/l links you can check out and ask in-depth questions about it.
HD calling is standard, and is enabled by default on the unlocked version, it's just called voLTE calling instead of HD calling.
Thabks so much for the info. One follow-up - Am I supposed to have a setting somewhere for VoLTE? I searched settings and don't see it anywhere.
