Q: Found this Debug Menu to Change MMS Max file size but get the following Error - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm hoping someone with more experience than myself knows the resolution to this. Using the app "quickshortcutmaker" I found in the stock messaging app "com.android.ui.DebugMMSPreference". When you hit try it gives you a debug menu with the option to change MMS Size limit. When you click other it gives you a selection of MMS max sizes, and then hitting saves gives the error shown below. I then tried accessing the secret LG menu using 3845#*400# and then turning on MMS debugging. Still get the error. I would really like to find a way to allow larger mms files through the stock messaging app rather than using a 3rd party because I love the quick reply implementation and circle case feature.
hopefully someone can help!
Ryan

shameless bump.
Is there a better section I should have posted this to? i feel like this is a great opportunity for a highly sought after feature that is often requested, and clearly built into the phones options.

Hi, have a look into the lg message app, there is skt_kr_mms_config.xml,
<mms_dr_r>0</mms_dr_r>
<mms_dr_a>0</mms_dr_a>
<mms_rr_r>0</mms_rr_r>
<mms_rr_a>0</mms_rr_a>
<auto_retr>1</auto_retr>
<auto_retr_r>0</auto_retr_r>
<mms_priority>1</mms_priority>
<mms_validity>6</mms_validity>
<mms_creation>0</mms_creation>
<mms_size>1024</mms_size>
<slide_dur>5</slide_dur>
I do no think the hidden menu can change this config file inside the apk without permission. Can you decode the message app, edit the config and packed and signed. and then test the message app on your phone?

MMS always shows as slide show even with one picture

With the default messaging application when i receive a mms it comes in as a slide show even though it is only one picture. If i open picture up and hit menu ,pause, the picture still goes away after a little while.
Why am i receiving a slide show when one picture is sent to me. I know i can use chomp or handcent but i would rather jut get this fixed.
Is it possible to stop slide shows or just the way things are on the phone?
I would like to know if there is a fix for this too.
Thank you

The fix is to replace the htc messing app with the standard android app. It's been a while since I did it but a google search will yield the instructions and the apk.

So far i seen that happen in the beginning Also.. the reason it goes to slide show is cause there is a caption to the pic. Have the person or persons not write something and just send the pic.. it will come not as a slide show

Actually that is not totally true... I have recieved plenty of messages with captions... I have seemed to narrow it down to
1. Iphones like to create slideshows for us. (Randomly at that)
2. The file format of the picture..

Thank you doing a search i found the Mms.apk file removed old one and installed new one and it worked out just great.
@masterfuel:
I get what your saying, that might be true in some cases, but i have tested this method with only Androids sending me the pictures.
Its been from DroidX, Evo, both bring up a slide show, but after doing what "baknblack" suggested actually turned out to be a better solution.
If anyone needs the fix here it is

Thanks for all the feedback on this. I have been getting a slide show for pretty much everything. From android, blackberry and iPhone. Maybe it has something to do with the captions people are adding like someone mentioned. But it is annoying that u can't stop the slide show. If u click on picture there is a pause button but it starts again by itself. I will try that basic Android fix and see how that works out. I am guessing u push file to system/app and delete the old one.... whatever that is called. I have to see if there are instructions in the other thread linked here.

the sense mms application was working fine ... i installed the vanilla mms app to get rid of the slide show ... but now with the vanilla mms application ... i cannot send MMS messages...
if i try to compose a mms from the picture gallery the message shows up blank with no picture attached .. if i add the picture manually and then try and send the app force closes ...
I used to have this issue also, I remember searching for a fix and then found that it was just the messaging app, downloaded handcent and have never looked back, just remember to disable the notifications on the stock app and then you have a fully functional, kick ass, text messaging app.

Texts are 160 characters per message. So every 160 characters, creates a new part. You can't change it. But a good workaround is an app off the market that will allow you to add a subject. This creates a text mms and keeps everything as one message.

Maybe, maybe not. It's possible it just wasn't notifying you of the split. You'd have to check the recipients phone to see how it was received, for verification on that.
Also, ICS will allow you to add a subject, by pressing menu button within the text thread. Sorry, I assumed you were on Gingerbread. I should have asked.

I am on GB. I guess Sony saw fit to not embellishments the standard text messaging app here. I now seem to remember that stock Google Android is text only. That's cool. I'll just either accept that or use an app from the market that handles longer texts differently. Thing is, Sony allows attachments and that requires mms right?

Yes. Any attachment is automatically mms. Or.... You could always jump over to ICS? It's actually pretty damn stable. I give it to Sony, they played there cards right with this phone so far I think. Just my opinion tho

I have no doubt ICS runs circles around GB. It did on my Atrix 2. I learned a hard lesson by jumping on the leak over there (even though I was able to recover). I still was not 100% sure I was still on the official upgrade path. So I'm taking this phone a little slower and learning some development with official ware using Eclipse and ADB. We'll see. If Sony officially unlocks this bootloader my perspective might do a 180. Thanks.

[Q] MMS camera app choices? Only stock?

Well, this is embarrassing.
Something I just found interesting about (what I assume is) a TW limitation?
When I want to take a picture to attach to an SMS, or attach an old picture to an SMS, I seem to only have the choices of the stock cam and stock gallery apps.
I thought that perhaps I had inadvertently set a default in the first day of ownership (although I don't remember doing so, and I am fastidious about these things), but there were no defaults to clear, either in the MSGing app, or the cam app.
While I find being forced to use the stock gallery for attachment annoying (I like QuickPic far better, for several reasons), not the end of the world.
But I use Vignette almost exclusively for taking pics, and having to close txt app > open vignette > take pic > close vignette > (wait for pic to process) > open txting > attach pic... P.I.T.A.
Am I missing something obvious? It's been quite some time since I used TW stock for any period of time. (On my E4GT I used anything but TW for the last 6 months of ownership...) But even then I still seem to remember TW offering me a choice of installed cams for attachments. Is this a Note II "thing"? Or something in the newer iterations of TW?
Thanks for reading, comrades-in-nerdiness.

There are no defaults to clear in the cam, gallery or messenger. I am literally forced to use the stock cam in attaching a pic to a msg.
Can someone confirm that this is the case on stock for them as well?
Or perhaps confirm that on a different rom its Not the case?
(fu*king spam, thanks for the bump)

I downloaded the quick pic and I get no option to use it when picking a picture from the messaging app. Maybe contact the developer about it.
Edit: actually it might be how the phone software is meant to handle attachments. I installed another gallery app and it doesn't show up either.

thanks, if you're on stock, than I consider the issue confirmed. for stock at least. with gallery.
anyone on any other ROMs can confirm?
(I already assume that anything AOSP does not have the issue, but I am wondering if any TW base ROMs have tweaked something that would allow for other apps to be used as either defaults.)
I've only had the option to use stock camera/gallery on TW.

When choosing to add an attachment if you choose take picture it defaults to the stock camera. But when u chose to attach an image and click on the stock images symbol you get options to choose from different apps. And quickpic pops up fine for me. Just downloaded it since above poster mentioned it.

thanks for that! would never have found that, counter-intuitive! (also, I tend not to attach many images from the gallery, usually take them on the spot.)
(found another cool little thing, if you long press any icon in the attachments menu, takes you to the app properties...)
still hoping to find a way to use a better/different camera app in attachments though. hrm. far more important.

What I hate is when browsing the gallery if you have your dropbox synced to it you don't have an option to share. However I do for my Facebook pictures which is also an online service. So in order to share I have to go to the messaging app and click attach from the dropbox in the attach photo selection I posted above. If you attach directly from dropbox it created a link to visit instead but if you use it from the massaging app it loads up the photo.

unable to complete previous operation due to low memory

I was trying to upload a picture to a forum and it kept Chrome kept giving me the message "unable to complete previous operation due to low memory". Why does it do this and how can I successfully upload the image? I took the image with the camera on the Tab so it's not too big.
Usually low memory means you have low ram storage the best thing to do is to use app killers if you are rooted or just close apps when you are done with them aka instead of using the home button press the back button

I figured one solution for this that has worked for me. While I was working on an issue with the android stock browser, I realized there was an issue with clicking on a hidden form field using jQuery. I used this method on a file upload spot so I could style the upload form.
Developer fix:
The way around this is to set opacity to 0, position absolute and hide the form element. Hope this helps.

Worked for me too.
So where do I find 'Developer tools' on my Nexus 5?
The above suggested solution has not worked for me. I have cleared all history, shut down all tabs, updated to the latest version of Chrome. I have even uninstalled apps I have recently installed such as AVG protection (not even sure I need that, can anyone tell me?) ..and I tried to install an app killer and boot manager, both of which won't work without first installing Xposed Framework and when I tried to install that (after half an hour trying to find it) my phone went mad with warnings about bootloops and bricks and asked me if I was sure..fair frightened me to deaths and I abandoned the whole idea!
Now can anyone help me to solve this problem?
I can upload to Facebook fine but any other forums I'm still getting the 'Could not perform previous operation due to low memory! I have over 11GB of storage and plenty of memory as I'm not running anything. As stated I have a Google Nexus 5 on Lollipop Help!

Where do I go to find "Developer Options"?
To get devoloper options open,
goto settings,
about device or about phone.
Then start tapping on build version or build number until developer options becomes available.
press the back button.
you should now be in settings and developer options should be near the bottom of the list.

Yep. That did it for me as well. What the hell? That is just weird they require that to be off. You can download a video, but not upload a picture? I can also upload it to the actual apps. But when I tried on the browser....... Nope. Tf?! lol. But yeah. Thanks for posting that. I would've probably been forever lost trying to find out why it wont.
Figured out
Removed the option to kill apps after use in developers options and it all worked fine for me
Thank you!
Solution worked here, too!
Makes sense to me. As soon as you select the photo, the system dumps the procedure, causing it to fail, and giving us yet another cryptic error message.

They are clear to those actually looking to use it Instead of just looking to argue a useless point the first person to try it got it and so did a few others. As I stated I quoted the original post so anything you are not clear on then you ask there. This is only to let us tmobile users know it works. Question did it work for you? Did you try? Do you already understand adb? If yes to any above then you should be able to follow directions

I've had trouble with Pixel launcher as well. No problems during the beta, but after "official" it mysteriously stopped working.
Working awesome here! Nice and smooth!
I found the easiest way to install this through adb is, make sure you have adb/fastboot installed on your computer, DL the play store mod file, extract it and all you have to do is CLICK on the play store rom.bat and it automatically opens the command window and the directions on there will guide you through the process.
MAKE SURE your home screen grid on the TouchWiz launcher is set to 5 x 5 as that is the default grid on the Pixel launcher. If it is set different on the TW launcher it messes with the Pixel launcher viewing. It offsets the app icon grid and makes icon s look crooked on the screen and widgets are all out of place also.
