[Q] HTC ONE X Screwed big time - HTC One X

Hi,
I have a HTC One X international version been in use for last 2 years. Just yesterday, I have unlocked the boot loader following instruction on HTCDev.com. Successfully rooted the phone following the instructions on onexroot.com. I have installed the ClockworkMod ROM on it. Until here things were fine. I have installed the ROM Manager from Android Market. Got the Super Admin. I have downloaded the Carbon ROM and Google Apps zip files to my phone. I have attempted install the Carbon Custom Rom on my phone, got the error status 7. this is where the problem started, by mistaken without taking the backup I have done the wipe data / factory reset. My phone is gone. It doesn't get identified in my Computer. Battery doesn't get charge. I have a clockworkmod recovery v5.8.2.7 on it.
Please please please help.. I did a sin..

First download the latest CWM 6.0.4.8 from CM11 thread or latest TWRP 2.7.1 or latest Philz recovery from original android section then install carbon rom. Carbon is based on 4.4.2 and you need latest recovery where support kitkat
EDIT: and something else you need to flash boot.img from rom.zip manually with the command fastboot flash boot boot.img , Rom Manager don't work on S-ON devices like ONE X

My phone shows battery level is too low to flash

Hi,
I am in Fastboot USB mode and the phone shows Battery level is too low to flash
I am unable to copy the files using fastboot commands. Also if I believe the charging levels are fluctuating and not consistent increasing.
Please advise.
Thanks a ton!!

first try to go in custom recovery and see if you can charge the phone from recovery if not Download THIS and connect the phone in fastboot and run the file chargeonex.bat
EDIT: no such rom like ClockworkMod ROM CWM is a recovery and you must to use command fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img

Thanks a Ton
Your file chargeONEX really did a magic. my phone is charging now, slowly .. slowly ...
May I please request for detailed step by steps for what to be done next? I am getting a hope that my phone will be back to work.. Please advise.

after you reach 3800mV flash custom recovery like Philz 5.15.9 and mount sd card copy what you need to the sd card after this if you whant to install 4.4.x you need to flash some of the latest recoverys on CWM,TWRP or Philz because Philz.5.15.9 will not work with the kitkat you can use it only to mount sd card and copy things to sd card. When you are done with the copy things flash the boot.img from rom.zip via fastboot and then flash the rom.zip from recovery and that is

Unable to boot in recovery with CWM 6.x
I have charged the battery for whole night and did a flash a CWM 5.8.4.0 and restarted the phone in recovery. After that I have flashed CWM 6.0 for KitKat and after that I am unable to restart the phone in Recovery mode. It stuck at the HTC Quietly brilliant screen.
Not sure where to start, I am totally confused with too many discussion forums with different suggestions. I am lost and my phone is in screwed up status.
What would you suggest as I am a novice person.
After flashing CWM 5.8.4.0 I am able to start phone in recovery, took back up, what is next? should I do a RUU... what is the funda of S-Off.
This is how my screen looks like now ..

Flash cwm recovery 5.8.4.0 (if you don't have it already installed)
Download a ICS rom and copy the boot.img from the rom.zip to the fastboot folder.
Put the phone in fastboot USB mode and flash the boot.img
Go into recovery and do full wipe EXCEPT Sd card ! Then mount sdcard as USB drive and Copy the rom.zip over to it
Flash the rom.zip from recovery and reboot
And stay away from the AT&T ROGERS FORUM that's for a different one x !
We have the ENDEAVORU type phone.....stay in this forum and don't flash anything from the other forum, you might brick the phone !
Thanks for the help

i found custom rom zip file. used this zip to flash the system and boot. camera and beats audio is not working with this rom.
can you provide the link for RRU 2.17.720.2 asia. so that i can update my mobile to official jelly bean released by HTC.
or provide me work around to update my phone to official jelly bean
Thanks.
You can check here, but i don't see it
http://www.htcruu.com/?dir=Endeavor
But if you have the nandroid backup.....it's the same as a ruu !
You have to restore the whole nandroid and not just the system and boot.
You have to do a full wipe from recovery and flash the boot.img from the nandroid and then restore the complete nandroid in recovery ! It's exactly the same as a ruu except the stock recovery is not included so you have to flash that after you restored the nandroid !

These are steps followed to recovery my whole HTC one x normal state.
1. Flashed the boot and recovery images form 2.17.720.2 OTA.
2. oem lock
3. Downloaded the RUU 2.17.720.2 from file factory (for this u need primer account. just googled it). As my device main version is 2.17 for ur download the respective ones.
4. Ran the RUU when the mobile is in fastboot mode.
5. That's it my devices is recovered back to 2.17.720.2
6. Software update is done form about section. (with out any issue.)
these steps are simple but, to identify these i have done lot of searching and background work.
at last I did it.
thanks for members helped me and thanks for XDA.
Now i got some idea about the process involved in the booting up of device and upgrade process. if you stuck any of the issue mentioned in the previous post of this thread. reply back with the issue.

Stuck on bootloader.

Hi !
I have a problem with my HTC DHD device. I unlocked it and rooted it a long time ago, using goldcard, installed Rom Manager, flashed the recovery, install CM...and all of a sudden, my phone shutted down, and couldn't stop rebooting, got the green HTC logo, and he reboot.
I had this problem a few month ago, i tried several things, that put my phone back in S-ON.
I actually got this :
Code:
c:\Fastboot>fastboot getvar all

I can't access to recovery, and i can't boot on anything else than the HBOOT or FASTBOOT mode.
I tried to unlock from htc dev, but it says that i need to upgrade my HBOOT before using htcdev tool.
As i was back in S-ON mode, i tried severals RUU Roms.
As the getvar all says i'm actually running 2.50.405.2, so i tried to install a clean RUU using
RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.50.405.2_Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2_release_199042_signed
( Got a french HTC DESIRE HD )
I'd like to flash a new recovery to make everything ok again. But i'm stuck, there is no ruu working, and i can't unlock bootloader, nor reinstall a recovery
everytime i try to flash something into any directory, i got this signature failed error.
Code:
c:\Fastboot>fastboot flash /sdcard PD98IMG.zip

I might be wrong but I think you might need another ruu and a new goldcard

I tried different RUU versions, all above the actual one or at least the same version.
The thing is that i can't actually put it back on its original configuration. CID is normal though, i can't find the original recovery, i'd like to flash it, i think it's the only thing that remains modified on the phone.
I had the exact same problem as you have when i bought the phone. AAHK was working back then and even with aahk the phone could not be fixed and the with the help of the devs on irc chat i managed to fix it
They told me that my phone was previously rooted and s-off but a strange RUU was flashed so they told me to flash cwm through fasboot and flash a custom rom.
Wich i did and it worked.
P.S. you might wanna try another sd card, this one might be fried ( faulty mem blocks)

Thanks for your answer, your previous problem exactly matches with mine. I'll try what you've said, the thing is that i'm actually not rooted, and S-ON, i can't use htcdev/unlockbootloader, because de version of my bootloader is too old ( i haven't used the phone for a while ) -
In fact :
- To solve my problem, like u said i have to flash CWM and a custom rom
- To flash a recovery, i need to unlock bootloader
- To unlock bootloader, i need to upgrade my bootloader
- To flash a ruu and upgrade my bootloader i need to have an original recovery
- Got a recovery problem i need another one, so let's flash CWM ( repeat everything )

1) conect phone to pc, run instalation ruu
2) during instalation process find in win/temp folder file named rom.zip
3) copy this file into folder with adb and fastboot files
4) cancel instalation
5) in phone run bootloader than fastboot
6) run command prompt in folder with adb, fastboot and rom files, than type "fastboot oem rebootRUU"
7) wait a few minute until phone goes in ruu install mode
8) than from command prompt type "fastboot flash zip room.zip", if you get error repeat once again without exiting ruu install mode (some times is needed to do it twice)
9) when install finish type "fastboot reboot" and now phone should be repaired
You can do factory reset before and after.

[Q] One X relocked with no rom on

Its been a while since flashing roms and I was going to sell my one x but needed stock software and unrooting. But I have ended up with my phone stuck in fast boot with it saying re locked at the top. I think i know where I went wrong but its too late. I dont have any backup because it was ages ago and I have tried various stock roms all returning errors. This is what I was following:
"fastboot oem Lock"
2) "fastboot oem rebootRUU"
3) "fastboot flash zip firmware.zip"
4) "fastboot reboot-bootloader"
5) "fastboot flash "unlocktoken Unlocktoken.bin"
6 "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-4.18.401.2-endeavoru-JB.img
7) fastboot flash boot ( the boot.img from the custom rom)
8) go in to recovery and install the custom rom.
I got stuck at 6 giving me an error, I presume it was the wrong file.
Do I actually have to do fastboot oem Lock, because its relocked?
Could anybody help me out with what stock roms and file I need please? I know there are a lot of posts but each one is idividual and with different firmware.
Thanks Guys

When you say to use phillz or cmr, can I use these because all I can do is access the fastboot screen? Even if I select recovery in fastboot the htc quietly brilliant screen pops up then goes back to fast boot menu.

No, on Clockword Mod or Phillz recovery you use Backup and Restore option, you don't flash the zip file, i zipped it up so i could upload to dropbox, just flash the 2013-02-05.20.39.08 folder under restore, there should be a folder called Clockword Mod on your SD Card or something like that.
Sorry for being an idiot im just concerned because I was up till 4.30 this morning trying to sort this out. in cwm folder is one called downloads which goes into recoveries folder, does the folder 2013....go in there? Then by flash do you mean going to fast boot- backup/restore - restore? because it says no file found still.

On your storage you should have a file called clockworkmod and inside that you should have another folder in there called backup, so your 2013-02-05.20.39.08 file should be in that backup folder.

Sorry there is no back up folder in there. Ive tried installing phillz over cwm it says complete but after flashing and when i reboot its still cwm. and in rom manager when I try to update cwm it gives me an error.

So then go into CWM or Phillz recovery then go to Backup and Restore and restore that 2013-02-05.20.39.08 file, then you should be back on stock H3G rom, then just flash the recovery i put in the folder separately, then you should be fully stock, then relock your Hboot/bootloader then you should be able to update your rom OTA to 4.2.2 and hboot to 1.72
Ok, so finally got there in the end. Hopefully. I have one more question and i will leave you alone.....ive sent the lock message and the bootloader now says relocked again. Is this different from locked? Can i get it to say locked instead of relocked as this looks like its been rooted before?

Ok, so finally got there in the end. Hopefully. I have one more question and i will leave you alone.....ive sent the lock message and the bootloader now says relocked again. Is this different from locked? Can i get it to say locked instead of relocked as this looks like its been rooted before?
Thanks

Relocked is correct, did you remember to flash the original htc recovery before relocking?
I did, but.....F### its stuck in bootloader loop now. The bloody phone booted and everything then when I restarted it its now stuck looping.
ok after unlocking the phone boots up fine. Is there something wrong when i go to lock it the it wont boot up?
Cheers dude

No i didnt do that, I just recovered the nand via cwm, then I flashed recovery.img then locked it. It was stuck in loop then as soon as I unlocked it booted.

now take the boot.img from nand backup and flash it via fastboot with the command fastboot flash boot nameofboot.img but you must unlock it again and after this relock it again
Ok cool, that looks like its worked. Thanks for that buddy! Do you know if there is any way to change the ****relocked*** back to ***locked***

Hold down the power button + vol up till your phone reboots (it'll take a bit, 20 seconds or so). AS SOON AS THE SCREEN GOES BLACK slide your finger from vol up to vol down. That will take you to your bootloader.
Hook up to your PC and get into ADB. Enter the command fastboot getvar all and post the readout here. Delete your serial no and IMEI from the readout before posting it for your own security.

You have old firmware and probably tried flashing a 4.4.4 ROM. I would suggest getting S-Off to update your firmware. Also your version main is blank. That would give your actual firmware version, but I can tell it is 4.4.2 based from your hboot number. It is blank because the TWRP version you are using is either old or 2.8.1.0. Both will cause that. Update your recovery as well.
In the meantime, flash this in recovery. It is a stock ROM backup that should fix your issue.
If you are going to try to run newer versions of ROMs, you'll need to have newer firmware. You can either get S-Off to do that, or convert back to stock (stock ROM and recovery, unmodified system partition) and take the OTAs.

You can't put it onto your extSD? In the bootloader menu, pick hboot (vol keys to navigate, power button to select) and it will give you the option for booting into recovery.
Or in ADB/fastboot issue the command fastboot reboot-recovery

Okay. I didn't explain the process thinking you would realize that it is a nandroid backup and not a ROM.
You have to place it into your TWRP backup folder.
Here are the instructions:
Q : How do i restore the stock nandroid backup
A : In general :
- Place the nandroid backup unpacked on the sdcard of the phone in the right backup folder
TWRP uses - TWRP\Backups\ or TWRP/Backups/serialnum/ (replace serialnum with your device's serial number. To have TWRP create the proper directory structure for you, just do a simple backup of just the boot partition and put the backup files in there) thanks to garyd9 for the additional info
- Flash the boot.img or boot.emmc.win file from the nandroid backup
- Make a full wipe in the recovery
- Restore the nandroid backup and reboot
If your backups are saved to your SD card, that's where to put it. It's always best to save nandroids to external.

This will probably be easier for you. Download this ROM. It is 4.4.2 based and should work for you. It's not a backup, so no messing around putting it into a folder. Place it onto your extSD and flash it in recovery.

Yes, just flash it. If you have issues after the flash, retry the wipes and flash it again. Not being able to wipe dalvik and data is strange. What version of TWRP are you using? The newest is 2.8.4.0. I'm using 2.8.3.0 and don't have these problems. You should probably update your recovery. The system, cache, and dalvik get wiped automatically during the ROM install as the devs have that put into the install script.

Maybe. The link I gave you is from the official TWRP website, just like this next link is. Flashing a recovery not meant for your device can really screw stuff up and possibly hard brick your phone. Be more careful.
You will want to use one of these recovery versions. I'm using 2.8.3.0, but I have heard good things about the newest 2.8.4.0.

At&t and GSM variants use same recovery so flash 2.8.4.0 provided in the link above BY xunholyx.
Also i recommend to upgrade the rom by running stock backup and then update through official OTA ..

If it is rooted the OTA won't be installed as the system partition and thus it's md5 has been changed by mounting it r/w and flashing SuperSU. This is as google and HTC following this guidelines changed the OTA delivery to a block based system where the routine checks if the system has been untouched prior to installing it. You got to restore the untouched image of the system partition for your device. After this you could flash the stock recovery and install the OTA.

Most likely NO.
The above user(s) used TWRP backups to remove changes that were done by root.
Since you never rooted (from the sounds of it) you don't have the same problem.

First of all, you need to understand that ROM and RUU are two very different things.
Also, nobody can advise you the proper RUU is, without knowing some basic information. Namely, do fastboot getvar all, and post the output (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).
Hey everyone,
I am trying to get my M8 to stock (been stuck at this for about 10 days now, tried everything). I am from India. There was some problem and I accidentally have a phone now with no OS and TWRP. I have installed stock recovery and plan to flash the ROM/RUU. Some details of my device:

I would really appreciate it if you could guide me how to get my phone to stock OS. The ROM that I should prefer etc. I have been going through a lot of forums and ended up being utterly confused.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Sorry, this is a pet peeve of mine, but I really wish folks would stop posting they "tried everything". This literally tells us nothing, and you should list specifically one-by-one (and in detail) what things you tried, and the results (again in detail) of each.
"Accidentally" appears to mean you unlocked the bootloader, then flashed an very old, obsolete version TWRP (which causes the main version to be blank) then decided it was a good idea to wipe the OS (system)? Again, you need to tell us exactly what steps you took to get to this point.
My next advice to you, is to only do things that are specifically instructed for you to do in your situation. Don't guess or do things without fully understanding them. As your present situation seems to indicate you don't have a very good understanding of what you are doing, and only making matter worse by proceeding with insufficient knowledge.

RUU will only work if its version 6.15.720.2
Your version (CID and MID) is rather obscure, so I'm not sure whether such RUU exists or not. If not, your best bet is to get TWRP back on the phone, and restore the stock nandroid 6.15.720.2 using the files and instructions on the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Also, flashing stock recovery is not needed to RUU; and not helpful in your current situation (you'll probably need to go back to custom recovery TWRP).

Sorry about the shortened version, just though it might be too big and unnecessary. Okay here goes what happened. I moved the whatsapp media to my laptop (at this time the device was unrooted and running stock android M updated over OTA). After the move, the device was stuck at the splash screen with HTC logo. After this I gave the phone to a service centre (not official HTC) and asked them to NOT root and put stock OS and get the phone working. What they did was, rooted it and installed a custom ROM with TWRM recovery (which was very screwed up, as in the camera kept crashing and I couldn't even use that). So, I decided to get it back to stock ROM and sense UI.
So what I did was looked up some thread (not sure which one) and went ahead to do a wipe through recovery. Here I did the mistake of wiping everything and so the device doesn't have any OS at the moment. The phone is still getting stuck in HTC logo now (obviously as it doesn't have an OS). I have tried to do the following:
1. To flash the boot only using fastboot flash boot and fastboot flash zip commands. The version I tried was stock 3.35.720.1_recovery.img. This didnt seem to work.
2. Next tried to go to usb fastboot mode and tried to run the RUU_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_MR_BrightstarUS_WWE_6.12.1540.4.exe official one from the laptop. But it showed some mismatch of versions and aborted.
3. Then I read that stock could only be flashed on S-ON devices if we relock the bootloader. So used the fastboot oem relock command to relock bootloader and then tried both the above but didn't work.
4. Next saw somewhere that it is pretty impossible to flash on a locked S-ON device. So went to htcdev and got the bootloader unlocked again.
5. Downloaded a stock image 3.35.720.1 Stock Unrooted. Read that we need lower or same stock recovery to flash the same and so flashed the stock recovery of the same version. Next extracted the .win001 and .win002 files using the tar command and finally put them along with META_INF folder and boot.img files into a zip file. The image had the contents of the system folder and tried to flash this using fastboot and also through the stock option "Update from SD card". Got error "E: footer is wrong. E: update signature verification failed".
This is the status so far. I am not sure what I should be doing anymore. Hope this helps in understanding the situation. Sorry it's so long.
Please advice what I should do now. Currently, I have stock recovery installed and no OS. I just want to have the stock sense OS on the device.
Thanks for all your time.

1. Download the 6.15.720.2 RUU.zip : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66309774&postcount=20
2. relock the bootloader with command - fastboot oem lock
option 1 - if you have a microsd
1. rename the downloaded RUU.zip as to 0P6BIMG.zip
2. put it on root of your microsd not in any folder
3. on bootloader select hboot - it will scan the zip and ask you to update.
4. select volume up to update
5. once completed, delete the zip from microsd
option 2
1. Download htc_fastboot.exe : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8L4pkbzdlR3eTlJSjdKVEdHX1U/view
2. put both htc_fastboot.exe and the 0P6BIMG.zip in your fastboot folder
3. run below commands :
fastboot reboot-bootloader (reboot to bootloader to ensure the connection is good)
fastboot oem rebootRUU (put the device in RUU mode)
htc_fastboot flash zip 0P6BIMG.zip (to install RUU - read it is htc_fastboot not fastboot)
Once complete - fastboot reboot
run setup .. done
