[Q] New Z1 Compact owner many questions HELP ME OH MIGHY ONES - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So after having my Xperia S for the last 2 years decided enough was enough with the WiFi problem GUESS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I GO TO SELL IT. The ****ing WiFi decided to work and continues to stay on. Starts to work with no reason after the amount of BS and problems I have had over the last 2 to 3 months trying many custom roms kernels and stock roms nothing working then all of a sudden bam it works when selling.
Phone must have a mind of its own saying ill work ill work don't sell me DONT SELL lol. I managed to get £140.00 exchange towards the z1 compact anyone think that was worth it?? £140 on exchange for the Xperia S 32Gig version. The Xperia z1 compact was £225 cash price with trade in paid £85 total 2nd. Also comes with 1 years guarantee with it and wasn't expecting any guarantee with a 2nd hand phone but cant grumble you don't get that on E of the Bay lol
Now comes my questions.
1 Can you change the glass on front without having to change touch screen or is this part of it? Not that I need it now but if brake in future I know.
2 Can you change the Back cover. Could do with changing as scratched to the max.
3 Can you buy the sides or full housing for the phone?
4 Can this phone be unlocked with software free. Or is it a matter of off to an unlock site and buy credit to do so or take down to local market?
5 How easy is it to unlock bootloader and root phone. Are they any versions to lookout for as I had in past with some phones had problems unlocking bootloader and had to remain on locked.. Is it just a matter of grabbing flashtool and unlocking or is their more to it with much newer handsets now?
Now on to the earphone jack and speaker at bottom of phone. The phone does say it is water proof however I do not see how it is when speaker and also earphone jack are not covered by any protective covers. Does this have some sort of seal within it to make water proof?
Thanks in advance.

I can answer 2, 4, and 5 for you.
2 - Yes, you can change the back cover. Lots of users are doing it currently. Can check out the thread:

4 - Phone is already unlocked for any SIM so don't worry about that
5 - Sony provides instructions directly on their website for unlocking the bootloader. Rooting is really simple as like most devices, you just flash SuperSU.
If you don't want to unlock the bootloader but root your phone, it can take some extra work.
Waterproof - The headphone jack is internally sealed and the speaker grill has a membrane.

Might be good to mention to @mentalghost that in order to restore the phone to a completely factory state further down the line you'll need a backup of your TA partition. There are guides explaining how to do that here on xda.

I haven't found a single locked Z1C online and no one has reported one being locked. If it is, just a local store or an online site.
As for the TA keys, guide is here:

No, you will most likely never ever be able to unlock that phone. The only possibility is if O2 has some kind of code they can give you to unlock the device (not sure if this is possible). Otherwise I would suggest returning it and buying one from Clove or CarPhoneWarehouse or something, as theirs are neither locked nor bootloader unlock disallowed.

buying from ebay?

Hey all... just a quick question to set my mind at ease please...
Just bought a desire on ebay .. supposedly unwanted t mobile UK upgrade... brand New in box...paid 270 for itwhich I thought was a decent price...
I'm just a little worried about stuff on eBay though and wonder if there's anything I should check for to make sure its ok... any known problems I should be looking for or a reason someone would want rid in a hurry... as it was a 1 day sale.. many thanks for any help.
Nobody can advise what to look for? Is it at least possible to check how many minutes the phone has been used for ? (
Bought a Black HTC Desire on ebay.. £350.. box was still sealed - all good. But the chap selling it did live at the top of my road! LOL
Unlocked - just about to flash it!

thats a good deal, i got mine off ebay for £295, the main things u wanna check are the obvious, check the screen and the casing, check the battery for damage, turn it on and make sure you desire dosent have the pink screen tint problem, put it under some heavy usage and see if u get any random reboots ect and lastly plug it in while using it and make sure the device duznt get too hot, if your happy after doing all that ur sorted lol
If it's a stolen phone, it is possible that the IMEI has been blacklisted.
See here for more details.
Regards,
Dave
When you get it use the dialler to type *#*#4636#*#* then tap usage statistics. This will tell you how long each application has been used for. Obviously if it's brand new these should read 0.
It should be wrapped in a cellophane type wrapper that folds in all weird ways around it! It's all one piece. I would do all the usual checks, and look closely at it to ensure it hasn't been dropped etc.
Don't forget if it's a Tmobile upgrade then it will likely be locked to Tmobile and require an unlock code if you aren't on the same network!
It should come supplied with a 4gb micro SD card installed in the phone, the battery, usb lead, wall charger that you plug the usb lead into, earphones, and a few wee booklets. All the leads, charger etc should be in sealed bags.
Thanks all.... I've been using it since last night and seems allls well... gets quite warm at the.base of the back .. but I assume they all generate some heat ...
Checked the timers.. and sense was showing 3 hours.. but as I been using it a day that obviously me.. was in box all cellofaned up.. and all bits in sealed bags..
What's the pink screen problem ? Is it very noticeable ?
The 1 thing o did notice is there was an option to have something light up on receipt of mail or sms. I assume its the center of the optical tracker but I haven't noticed it light up once... should it? And hoe can I check? Thanks again for all the advice.. had set my mind at ease. )
The light for notifications is the one you see when you charge. There is no light at the trackpad.

If it is the case, is it then possible to "unlock" it by flashing another ROM onto it? Just wondered cause I'm looking at one that might be locked to vodafone (upgrade).

No. A new rom gives you new phone software. To unlock it you need to go to Vodafone, or the cheaper and better option in my opinion, buy a code online!

[Q] Round up of BL Unlock Allowed: No Rumors, Theories and Experiences

Right, I have a R800i aka Xperia play from O2-UK
I have BL Unlock allowed: no (guessable from the title)
Before I take the plunge of paying $15 of my cash to some guy whom just happens to have bought the SETool box I want to 'verify' that all the Legends around the various myths are lies and that I coud'nt have avoided spending $15.
Firstly, a while ago I saw a guy post up that he also had a super-annoying-sony-carrier-love-locked-bootloader and he used S1Tool and unlocked it. Is this true? Any experiences? Here's the Original thread
Next, I came across several sites fastgsm and wotanserver, fonefunshop - both offered to do the service but required you to have 12W12 thing on the back. I have higher - 11W46 in fact.
Any other rumours? anyone?
I have it SIM UNLOCKED. And no matter how many times I talk to O2 the support is useless - they say check PC Companion and other stuff.
I'm ready to part with a maximum of $10. It's not like the $5 will kill me it's just I don't want to pay some random guy money cos you know - he'll run off with a joyful face and if it then turns out his hickary and ajigary did'nt work I'll be back at square one only with $15 less cash
Even if it say no, if you plug in the device when its off while holding the search, and the blue light turns on, then you maybe likely still be able to unlock it. If not, then you'll have to pay. Out side of those website which I haven't tried, there are only two person I am aware of that provide this unlocking server and they both are professional. Also I don't think they make any profit from it, though someone else will know better about this.
I used Wotan server and within 5 minutes of paying 7.99 EUR I had an unlocked boot loader

I have an r800i and was able to unlock its bootloader on my own without paying anything. I used the method wherein you'll stick a paper clip and wiring thing, just googled bootloader unlock and was able to get the 3 method to do so and did the best out of 3. Back then even if my bootloader is unlocked, it won't brick via OTA update. It was in youtube.

No blue light . I think I know the two people you're talking about
Xperia Unlock Service being one
and the other PhoneUnlockServer
As I said I'm prepared to pay it's just I would feel way more secure paying someone like wotanserver rather than a guy or girl (That I know literally nothing about other than he/she unlocks phones)

What does your sticker under the battery say? I mean the **W** mine goes 11W46 (Meaning it was made in 2011 in the 46th week )
Wotan server says you need less than 12W12 for their trick to work. SO am I right in assuming it will work for me? Any experiences with 11W46? 12W12 should mean it was made in the year 2012 and in the 12th week. That should mean mine is earlier right?

YEs if you download the unlock tool for the xperia play on wotanserver.com it has an embedded video detailing what to do.
There! Thats what i used to unlock my BL the test point, look for bootloader unlock xperia play on youtube, theres a link on where to download software so you can do it on your own and without paying service wherein you have to be in teamview. Anyone confident enough can unlock thier own device using this method.

Took the plunge of wotanserver.
So i paid Wotanserver €8 (£7 (or equivalent in local currency))
PayPal immediately messaged me saying that "You sent a payment of €7.99 EUR to WahWai Electronic Technology Limited ([email protected])" FastGSM hmmmmmm........ Doesn't it ring a bell.
Anyway the setup was painless, literally open the setup file. All the drivers will be installed along the way of the install procedure. Handy.
Then you open up the thing and tell it your phone model it goes OK, shows you a little video how to connect the testpoints (Calls it TP to GND Connection presumably pronounced TiiPe too GRRRRRnd) Anyway, connect the phone as shown, it goes oh yeah, phone detected checks your account balance and does the BL unlocking.
The monetary transfer literally took no time at all (Excl the time I spent typing in my PayPal details)and the actuall process took less than 10s (no joke)
If you consider using wotanserver though try to do the whole process without credits so you know if your phone works to avoid disappointment after you paid - Select model and connect it the softwre will say 'checking account' and then say not enough credits if it can unlock the phone but won't due to insufficient money. Try it first, pay it and do it again later.
Overall it worked! My phone is now unlocked the bootloder has a version of r9******* (not censored just can't remember) and even the little BL unlock allowed status has been set to yes
Now just need to get CWM on there and flash a decent ROM. But that's a different issue.
Thanks for all your help guys (and girls)

Problems scanning and writing NFC-Tags

Yesterday i received some ntag215 nfc tags. I immediately tried to read and write them but my htc showed no sign of recongnition. That same day and many days before i have used nfc to pay at the supermarket. This works perfectly. I found that it gives some kind of reaction when placing the tag on the front speaker. It knows its there but it cant seem to fully connect/read/write the tag. The transmitter just seems too weak. Is this a normal HTC 10 flaw? I still have 3 weeks of warranty so i might wanna get it replaced. Too bad i just applied a sick dBrand skin. If anyone has had this issue and mannaged to fix it in some way please let me know. The tags worked on other android devices. I tested it with a Sony Z3 compact.

I just check HTC 10NFC location is around rear camera.
I knew that already. The problem is that it doesn't seem to be able to read the taggs. Not on the back and not on the front. There must be more people having this issue.
It's a known problem with the HTC 10.
The NFC signal is not strong enough.
If you search for it here on XDA, there are some others threads. No solution for it yet.
I sent mine to HTC already. They said they repaired it, but it's still not working for me.

NFC Tags do not work, if you ask HTC Customer support they will tell you that the phones NFC only works for Android Beam and other Active devices (which does work flawless) Scanning NFC Tags or Cards does simply not work.
Yeah that's what I thought as well. Pretty bad that HTC even choose this chip. Even worse that HTC support Netherlands didn't even bother to tell me it just won't work. They offered a repair. But because I unlocked my device and run Leedroid it would cost me a fair amount. I refused. They honestly have a system that flags your device when you root it. That's insane
If you RUU that should wipe Root. Leaving you with an unlocked bootloader only.
The disclaimer that warranty is lost on unlock is mostly only show.
Don't know how it works with HTC.
The problem is that apparently HTC has a database of modified devices. Even when you reset the device they can see you modified it at some point. The guy told me the exact day and time I unlocked my phone. He even saw the exact time I first installed twrp recovery.
Woot? I totally understand unlocking, as this is done via Webpage from HTC.
But how the hell do they know when you installed a different recovery?
You can always revert back to exact stock settings / RUU / relock bootloader, but once you unlock through HTC Dev, they know your device was modified since you've entered your phone info into their database. Besides, anyone who unlocks the BL through HTC Dev knows what they're doing. Otherwise, they wouldn't be running adb commands, pulling tokens, and unlocking through their dev site. So yes, they know once you unlock that your device was modified. Even if you unlocked the bootloader, and then didn't do any modifications, I think the bigger question at this point would be... why the hell did you even bother doing that? (rhetorical/sarcastic question lol)
Which is why Sunshine can be SO FREAKING USEFUL AND BEAUTIFUL. I did S-OFF / BL LOCKED on my wife's (Verizon) phone since I got it for her months after release (unlike my phone, which was BL UNLOCKED, then S-OFF afterwards. i pre-ordered my device, US Unlocked variant, and unlocked it right out of the box through HTC Dev). I then proceeded to hardcore hard brick the phone months later when I stupidly wrongly flashed a lower partial firmware package after a bad update to Nougat firmware, instead of RUU'ing. The modified aboot that was already loaded was ultimately the phone's demise. But since HTC didn't have any record of modification to the device and it was totally hard bricked, it was warrantied without any problems. To them, it was just a phone that stopped working, no charge, no lights, no nothing. BTW, yes I did feel guilty about this..
Now if I did that with my US Unlocked HTC 10 with an unlocked bootloader logged in their database, it wouldn't have surprised me, nor would I have felt wronged, if they refused full warranty after such a problem.
WOW, THAT WAS WAY OFF TOPIC! But hopefully a lesson to someone..
As for the OP, back on topic!!:
I totally feel your pain. I bought a bunch of tags a month ago to write all the amiibos with special function in Breath of the Wild, just to find the damn phone not being able to write. Sometimes it would keep spasmodically beeping like it knew the tag was there, but never successfully write the tag. My only solution was to use a different phone, in my case my FreedomPop HTC M9. It shocked me that the HTC 10 had such a crap NFC chip and yet the M9 was fine. Oh well, I have all the exclusive Amiibo sets now, and the twilight bow, goddess sword, sword of the six sages, and fierce deity sword all hanging in my house in Hateno village. Plus a fully upgraded Fierce Deity armor set and Sky armor set, which shouldn't even be available yet! Oh my Lord... the amount of time I wasted farming those star fragments...
Good luck with the tags though OP! If possible, try installing TagMo on another Android device if you have any. It also worked on my wife's old Galaxy S5 and a Galaxy Note 2014 edition tablet...
Exactly the same scenario here bro. Wanted to make amiibos but found out the metal case of the 10 is just too distorting. I'll stick to using my old Z3 for now. Can you send me a zip with all amiibo data you used for the Tags? I made 20 already but especially the zelda ones seem to be the wrong amiibos. Getting shield from the one that should give me bows.

Dead HTC 10 ?!

Hello Guys, im new to 10 forum but in the past 12 years i used only HTC devices so im planing to leave my m8 and jump to 10
My question is this: I have a offer for a HTC 10 in brilliant cosmetic condition no sratches no even single sratch on the panel perfect as brand new condition never been droped or watered but the phone cannot switch ON.
The owner of the device have it from around 3 months and tell me that he was trying to SIM UNLOCK it somehow even he don`t know what he was doind coz he is not very familiar with things like this and NOW the phone its seems dead.
Its a Shame because is even under waranty but was locked on a network.
Anyway he is going to sell it for about 50 USD im asking you
Do the deal worth it? and what can cause the reason for this DEAD HTC 10 after trying to Sim Unlock it.
I think to try eveyrhting posible to give this phone a second life and after a week will be able to take it and see whats goes i don`t know more info i mean do i have access to Recovery or Fastboot since the device is not here till the next week but my question is do this worth it and what can be the cause of NO switching ON anymore.
The owner sayd that before to attempt this Sim Unlock the phone was worked perfectly fine.
Thanks in advance for the advices and of course when is with me will Update the thread with more info about the device.
Thanks

Do the deal worth it? and what can cause the reason for this DEAD HTC 10 after trying to Sim Unlock it. Well that's enitrely the problem with buying phone not working. You can't troubleshoot all the internal hardware like you can a PC and test what works and what doesn't work. you would need a working HTC 10 to swap parts with to test.
That said my opinion, forget about this phone. Go buy a working phone on swappa, ebay or HTC.com they are having a $200 off sale and you would have the peace of mind, knowing that you have a working phone. swappa would be best if you wanna negotiate a good deal with a seller.
Or go to ebay - factory unlocked 10's are $400 delivered all over the place.

I know what you are saying but listen
I know this guy is a friend of mine i know the device is brand new he bought it before 3 months in this case when is bricked after atempt to Sim Unlock im sure its SOFTWARE related problem becuase like i sayd the phone is in Mint perfect cosmetic condition no a single dust or scratch.
I know that its HARD to really Brick a device forever on a software level.
So i know also how much cost a brand new or second hand HTC 10 the goal here is do 50 Bucks worth it coz if i think stright only the Rear and Front Panel and the Displey in my opition worth more.
Im asking you what can cause Broken phone after attempt to Sim Unlock.
Thanks in advance

If its software why cant your turn the phone on? If its software you need the phone to be able to boot to download mode to flash RUU. I think your friends is lying to you. If its still under warranty why doesnt he return it back to the carrier? How about he give you the phone and if you get it fixed you give him the $50. If hes your friend he would understand.
