[MOD] CloudyG3 - How to Get Roboto Font Back - G2 Android Development

I love @Cloudyfa G3 ROM, but I couldn't seem to find my favorite font Roboto in the list anymore. To enable Roboto I built a new system_fonts.xml and zipped together Google's Roboto fonts to ensure the original AOSP ones are in the ROM.
To enable Roboto again, using Root Explorer (or a like app):
Backup /system/etc/system_fonts.xml
Copy system_fonts.xml from the zip attachment (system_fonts.zip) into /system/etc
Set permissions on system_fonts.xml to rw-r--r--
Backup /system/fonts
Copy the 18 Roboto .ttf files from the zip attachment (Roboto.zip) and paste into /system/fonts
Set permissions on all 18 .ttf files just pasted to rw-r--r--
Now, reboot and select Roboto from Settings > Display > Font type. Voila! You will have the correct AOSP Roboto look to your launcher and apps.
Cheers

Thank you friend!

I used Rom Toolbox and it worked also

Thanks man, do you think you could do any tweaking to give us a menu button in the navigation bar? Maybe it can be replaced by the splitview or notifications button.

There's no longer a need for the menu button. All apps (unlike the g2 stock) have the overflow button available by default....

I still like my menu button to be there. It's much more conveniently placed.

Is it possible to import the wireless storage feature from g2? It's missing in G3

Thank you.
Why don't you have one zip file to do all of the steps you mentioned?

If someone points me towards a guide for making flashable zips, I'll do one.
Never bothered with that before as I just use adb or an app on device like root explorer.
Thanx

[GSCRIPT MOD] HOW TO change system fonts in Android UPDATED 06/08/2010

Hi guys,
another day, another tip!
Today I will explain how to change your system fonts at will, but as download and set them free.
You will say that our phone has this function ... But it is not true, or rather, this function has to pay.
To avoid spending money unnecessarily, I will explain where to download millions of characters and how to apply them in a few clicks!
Let's start!
What we need:
- Samsung Galaxy S i9000
- Phone rooted with STAND ALONE PROCEDURE (all credits to Leshak);
- IMPORTANT, BUSYBOX from Market;
- Gscript from Market (all credits of this app goes to PinkVenture, if you like it, buy a full version);
- My tips
What will do:
- Download any font you like from THIS SITE (all credit goes to this site) or any site that lets you download free fonts;
- Create a folder called Fonts in you internal sdcard:
/sdcard/Fonts
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
- Rename the downloaded font in 2 files called(2 files with differents names, same main file):
DroidSans.ttf
DroidSans-Bold.ttf
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
- Copy those file in /sdcard/Fonts;
- Start Gscript, leave it to take Superuser acces, then press on:
Menu --> Add script --> Load file
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
and close it;
- a new folder called gscript was created;
- Download my zip file contenets all of 3 scripts that we need:
BackupSystemFonts - backup all your system fonts from /system/fonts to /sdcard/Fonts/bak
ChangeSystemFonts - change the system fonts
RestoreBakSystemFonts - restore the backed up system fonts from /sdcard/Fonts/bak to /system/fonts
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
- Copy all 3 scripts in the gscript folder on internal sdcard:
/sdcard/gscript
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
- Start Gscript and then press:
Menu --> Add script --> Load file
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
select the script that you want and check Need SU? then save;
- A new script is added!
- Press on the script you want and it start!
- Well done, the new font is applied!!
Archive password: socketandroid84
Needless to say that now you can choose any font you want and apply it without any problem with only 2 clicks quickly and safely!
I hope that the trick will be useful!
Update 06/08/2010 - LOOP SCREEN RESOLVED
- Before apply the scripts install BUSYBOX from MARKET; there is a bug in the old version of busybox installed by the update.zip for root our phone. It's install an old version of busybox that doesn't use the "cp" command.
So, when you go to remove and copy the new fonts though the script, it's remove the old ones but doesn't copy the new ones. You can resolve this bug simply install the last version of BUSYBOX from market!

Bravo!
I was wondering how to apply new fonts that I want besides those
from manufacturer. Thanks a lot
Thanks. First time I tried changing fonts (not using this method) I ended up reflashing the whole thing because it got stuck on the i9000 welcome screen so be carefull dealing with fonts (yeah sounds weird I know) ^_^
I thought we can change font:
Menu->Settings->Sound and Display->Font Style
I am still trying to figure out how to add more fonts.
Thanks for the easy method.
My results:
is it possible to change the font size too? because some of the 3rd party fonts look really nice, but a bit too small when applied.

Are there any prerequisities for the fonts? Because I tried one and the phone got stuck in bootscreen, so I was forced to make a reflash of FW.
I found out that I have fonts with 2 different icons (all files are .ttf), one icon has TT and the other one has O on it (see attached screenshot).

Thanks guys, I will try the "real" ttf font.
EDIT: working like a charm, thanks
this is awesome!
Crap, I did the same thing - Gets stuck while booting...
Might want to give a clearer warning in the first post about the need for a true, ttf. I'm apparently way too anxious to get things going than reading all posts
ok, how do i reset? because i got stuck while booting after doing this smh....
heck same here end up stuck at boot screen. is this really due to the font i want to switch? how do i know it's a real ttf font?
Every FONTS in this site work very well:
FONTS
If you want to reset, reflash or press the power button for 10 sec i think... search in the wiki!
For me, it worked once with 2.1, then, after flashing another 2.1 firmware it got stuck while booting.
With 2.2 it doesn't seem to work...
Stuck at loading screen too, only option is to flash ?? or is there any other option ?
Kind of lost how to reset the phone.
Is the only way to do it by pressing Volume down and turning it on?
Not in the mood to lose all my Data. :-/

Changing battery icon

hi does anyone one know how to install custom battery icons through Rom Toolbox Pro app as it doesn't seem to work for me when I press install. I am rooted and currently using the Omega rom.

thank you for the reply, I have tried the android Simplistic control app and still the same when I try to change its still the same blue circle battery icon that came with the Omega rom, I did notice something strange, when it comes to a certain percentage it would show the custom icon I installed then disappear after that. Any idea what the problem is??

You could always edit the battery icons yourself. Just paste the wanted battery icons into SystemUI.apk where the battery icons are supposed to be and push it into /system/app with the correct permissions and voila you're done.
Doing this quite often when there are themes I want to apply but they don't come in CWM flashable zip for the rom I'm using

Its not only about installing the SF app, you'll have to flash its content as well that is when you make changes on the control app it will reflect.

Just copy the systemui API from your system/app folder to your sdcard and open it using 7zip or similar program on your PC. Locate the icon files within the app, most likely under res/drawable/hdpi or xhdpi and copy the icon you want straight into the apk and overwrite. No need to extract the apk. Note this only works when replacing images. If you want 1% battery, you'll have to edit some xmls as well (dunno which one though).
And just copy the apk back to where you found it and give it the correct permission (644) and reboot.

[Q] How to Change Fonts on CM10.1?

I can't find anything in the settings for changing the font and rom toolbox does nothing but send my phone into a boot loop... Anyone know how(can explain)?? I have a lot of font apk's from GB I'd like to use.
Go the hard way: fonts are stored under /system/fonts and you just have to replace them all you like with a root-enabled file explorer. If your fonts are in an APK pack, extract with WinRAR/WinZIP and look for .ttf files inside.

Rename to the system names (but there are many font files, do make sure which you want to replace!) and replace them. Don't forget to set permission to rw-r--r--. Then just reboot to see effect. If anything happens just flash the original ROM without wiping anything.

I mean, can't you open the apk's with WinRAR or WinZIP? (if necessary, change the file extension to .zip) Extract and seek .ttf files in it. I can't guarantee you will find it though, as I always directly fetch readily-available ttf files and never used these font APKs. Maybe that's different.
A bit offa topic: why change when system default (the Roboto font family) is beautiful enough?

Then you must be doing wrong, or you might haven't set correct permissions after replacing files.
Anyway, I'm free on summer vacation, so you can send me the fonts you want to use (font name or file, both are okay, BUT it has to be a font family with at least bold, italic and bold+italic variants!), and I'll see if I can pack up a flashable zip for you.

Normally I have to base my flashable zip on an already existing one, then I just replace the fonts inside, slightly tweak the update-script, repack, re-sign and all done. Dunno how to go into details...

stock kk 4.4.2 Dialer with google dialer icon

paste this apk in /system and set permissions rw-r-r with root explorer or similar then cut and paste in priv-app/ replacing-it or flash in recovery
Thanks for the apk! One request, can you give us your launcher, please?
Works good. Always loved that icon.
Works?
I downloaded the flashable zip, and it seemed to install correctly. The original phone app has been replaced, and the icon has changed. So, I assume it has installed.
Does the business search work however? It may be my phone or location, but typing in pizza hut or the local bank comes up with nothing...
Thanks anyway, because at least I get the nice blue flat icon

Simply by using Nova Launcher you can have that icon aswell and I suspect other launchers might do the job too.
Nice! Can you change the icon for the Contact (People) to be more rounded like others apps on hotseat?

Any chance of a version for 4.4.4? Presume this one is incompatible, reluctant to try it as I know the dialers are slightly different in the two builds. Thanks in advance!

If you directly replace that apk in system/priv- app/ with default permissions will get you s system force close pop-up, so first paste in /system, change permissions and move in system/priv-app replacing the existing one

I flashed the file but when I go to settings, display, font type I only see the same stock options... Help
