[Q] So Now What?? - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so amazon just released an update to the first gen kindle, changing the 6.2.2 firmware to 6.3.3. I was just getting everything ready to root and now im afraid to. What shall i do?

Will someone please tell me if its safe or not to go ahead with the root and recovery. I see 26 people saw the thread but no one has said anything.

Did you take the update??? If not you should be OK to root. If you did then I'm not sure, you might be able to but then again it may brick your device. Sorry it's not the answer you are looking for but it's the best I have.

Yeah it updated automatically. So there's no way to reverse the update huh?

Haven't seen a good root method for 6.3.3 yet, these things take time...
If you don't want to brick it don't try rooting.

I think you can find the .exe 1.47 file update and try to make a downgrade, then reroot. Don't know if it will work (if you can downgrade, then rerooting would be a piece of cake) but you can obviously try

is there a quick easy way to downgrade back to 2.2 ???
Umm no if he was rooted properly. Not boot by bout basis. You are OK. Your S-Off. Just would need to put latest Amon RA recovery named PC36IMG.ZIP in root of sdcard. Then let hboot flash it. Then flash rom like normal. Works that what I did

You can if you did a nandroid backup before flashing. Just restore.

I would say give it a few days. I'm pretty sure someone will have EVO rooting again. Next time I would recommend unrevoked 3/forever.
It is so easy & fast. Root in 5min or less. Still able to unroot later if wanted/needed.

so after getting unrooted is just as simple as rooting permanently ???
and what do u guys think of this method?? is it worth a try?? not for unrooting but to downgrade from 2.3 back to 2.2
http://htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-hacks/how-to-unroot-your-htc-evo-4g/
If your looking at unrooting also look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141 that don't even need computer. Just phone. Yes unrooting looks fairly simple. Have a friend using the method just posted. He going to let me know.

Worth a try, but I would definitely do a google search and have several RUUs on hand to try in case you get an error (i.e. attempting to load software older than original) with the first one.
I can't believe that people are still asking this question. Thread count like 50+ for the same damn question. Face it you screwed up now sit back and wait for someone to bail you out. Next time read then search then search then read

[Q] Will 2.3.4 OTA break S-Off?

After searching the forum and reading many posts, it still is not clear to me if the 2.3.4 OTA (I'm being prompted for 4.06) will break S-Off.
When I rooted my Incredible using Unrevoked3, the custom recovery wasn't out yet or otherwise wasn't included. I believe that I am still running stock recovery (haven't flashed any ROMs).
If I do this update will I lose S-Off or lose root?
I know this topic seems redundant, but I haven't read a clear answer.
Thanks.
I'm wondering the same thing.
I just got the last issue on skyraider 4.3 working again, and I don't really want to start over.
This is answered in the q&a forum

If you are currently 's-off' the ota will NOT break root.

What if your phone is only rooted? If you update will you lose root? I don't actually own a dinc but my friends wife keeps asking me if she should update and if she will lose root if she does. Also if she has to reroot after the update do you know of any issues doing so?
I'm having enough issues trying to get everything working with rooting my htc vivid
Thanks for any help.

If the OTA actually can be accepted with your custom recovery (debatable), you would lose root IMO. I think what Stang means is that if you're s-off, you can reflash clockwork and superuser, and reaquire root easily. So it doesn't break your ability to root again.
My daughter downloaded the latest 2.3.4 and now has issues with the memory low icon. Can I downgrade to Froyo? She's finally going to let me root her phone(that I pay for).

This was my experience. I managed to cp it to my SD card, before it deleted itself, and now I have to rack up a 10 post count so I can let the developers in the developer forum know I have it ready to send to whomever wants to root it and re-released it.

[Q] This is probably a stupid question but I need to know.

I am a complete noob and I have a question. I am going to root my kindle fire with "Kindle Fire Utility 0.98+" and I know that I have to install permanent root, but what else on the menu do I need to install, and is there any particular order to install them, and how to UN-root if I have too.
Sorry for a stupid question but I am not accustom to these things like the younger generation.
Thanks,
Scotty
Make sure what kindle version you got. You don't want to brick it. All the tools you need should be in kfu. Good luck

I know there is, but the only option I can give you is to uninstall superuser when you are rooted. That will not give anything access to root. Is this the same as unrooting? I don't know.
Also, you could flash the stock update.zip after taking appropriate measures in TWRP and wiping the things you need to to go back to the unmodded kindle fire OS.

Yes, just download one of the update files from KFU and install them and you will be unrooted. Or uninstall superuser after deleting su in the /system directory.

probably too early to know, does anyone know if this update will affect root? coming from htc, i remember updates were frowned upon as they can make rooting more difficult.
