[Q] Problem with the partitions on TabPRO? - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

I own a Galaxy Tab PRO 10.1" Wifi (SM-T520).
I have the stock ROM, rooted and with TWRP. And SDfix...
I have tried fat32 and ext4 on MicroSD, and without MicroSD. No difference.
I cannot boot any custom rom (Stuck at Samsung logo). Sometimes when I try to install a rom, it fails, or reboots TWRP.
I also encountered problem when trying to restore a nandroid. No DATA partition can be written to, restore fails. (after reboot recovery, its no problem to restore)
Angry Birds Epic does not work. It stops at "Loading Levels", and sometimes it fails to start, and says its not installed.
Spotify says that that it cannot be used because it has no storage.
I can access the partitions, but they are not writable. A reboot is getting the internal/external SD to be writabe again.
So, what is the problem with the partitions on TabPRO? or is it the Samsung android rom thats the problem?
Can it be fixed?
Regards,
-Exlo

Try installing FolderMount from the PlayStore. It can detect and fix issues with your partitions. You just need to run it, then reboot. I seem to get issues writing to my data partition after I install TWRP, on my SM-P900. FolderMount fixed it quickly and easily.

FolderMount did find an error, and fixed it, but same result
And it "fixed" the same problem as the SDfix app did.
But, I still made some progress. I managed to install a custom rom without error, and fully booted.
Team Freeze Rom installed fine. The rom is just under 800Mb. So i thought maybe it was some faulty memory sector on my tab.
Then I tried to flash GigaWatts ROM, and it failed. Same with ProPlus Rom.
When restoring my last nandroid, it fails when writing DATA partition.
Then I tried to restore my first nandroid, from "stock" rom, and it restored just fine.
First nandroid was from internal SD, and latest was from external SD. Made me wondering, so switched yet again another MicroSD, took a nandroid to it, and tried to restore. It fails again at DATA.
Then I tried t install GigaWatts ROM from internal SD, instead of external. Works without error.
Sooo.... I can flash custom ROM`s from Internal Memory, and restore from Internal Memory
Not from external SD.
Still, I do get internal/external SD dropouts, and getting "no space left/no memory to install on", which can be "fixed" by a reboot.(Still, it should`t be like this, and are quite annoying.
But, still no luck on getting past the "Loading Levels" on AngryBirds Epic
Where is the root of the problems? Faulty device? Android ROM? TWRP making trouble?
Please guide me if any logs should be provided to find out where the problems is, if i`m not the only one with these problems.

Exlo

You can try flashing a stock ROM via Odin, and start from scratch. Factory Reset, Reroot, install twrp, etc. If you still can't write to /data properly, you may need to find a .PIT file and repartition your internal memory using Odin.
Sent from my SM-P900 using Tapatalk

I have had to reflash stock with Odin 4 times by now, and it has been the same pain every time.
I was hoping not to use re-partition, so I will wait and see if some new info will come by from other users, as I see there are more of the users that struggles with flashing custom rom. (Stuck at samsung logo, installation fails)
So, will hold off for a few days, and if no new info about partitions, rom flashing, low memory, sd cards not mounting correctly, etc, then I will try re-partition...
meanwile, I`ll investigate som more on my own, read overall the internet

Ok, so i have tried and failed, and learned something on the way
Ext SD is useless for flashing rom, nandroid, etc within TWRP. It does not mount partitions correctly.
If I make sure DATA partition is mounted in recovery, and only use Internal SD, everythin flashes, backups and restores just fine
(Mabye an issure with TWRP?)
SDfix, or FolderMount fixes write permissions to Ext SD in rom to use TitaniumBackup, games, downloads, etc.
Hopes this can help others in simular problems.
And thanks to all that have helped on the way

double check your partitions, make sure you have FAT32 + EXT3 @512mb then flash the chosen rom again, this is your best chance.
go with my rom, linked through my signature, the update will wipe the Cache + dalvik cache but keep all of you personal data and apps.

How do i check the partitions? Cant boot so can`t see them that way and haven't got card reader or anything. Im sure its got something to do with partition. Does this seem like it is causing the problem?
Any help appreciated.
bump, need help
have you wiped everything before flash?
I wiped with rom manager after downloading rom. Not sure of all the custom recovery options as rom manager usually does it all for you. Not sure if i should wipe date, cache etc, will this wipe my backups? Tried removing sd card but wont boot, not even sure how I would get another custom rom on sd card so i could flash that. I have both defrost 2.4a and opendesire aswell as a nandroid backup on my sd card but can't get these to boot either
Must be something to do with the sd card partition. Everything I try I get the message
E:Can`t mount/dev/block/mmcblk0p2(file exists)
error mounting sd/ext/!
Don't know what this means but think its causing the problem.
perhaps a bad sector on the SD?
try backing up everything on the SD, format it again & try the roms one by one to see which possible causes the issue
U need to try an alternative recovery.
Try using unrevoked, and flash and different recovery.
Sounds like the fake flash recovery u got with rom manager Isn't clearing ur partitions.

in Windows XP Disk Management, right-click the existing partition,
and click delete, that will leave the whole card as unallocated space. Then
right-click on the unallocated space, and click new partition.
edit : or install http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/sdfv2000.zip
free SD partitioner
in disk management it only shows the size as 3.18gb, I made the partition through rom manager which I think formats it in linux which windows doesn't recognise.
Taking the Sd card out gets in onto the animation screen, so a little further, but still doesn't boot. Very frustrating. \\\\\any more help appreciated.
Flash a ROM that doesn't use Apps2SD.
can you link one for me pal, ripping my hair out here, lol. By the way how do you do full wipe in custom recovery ie data, cache, is that it?
edit. Don't matter. Sorted. Copied an earlier backup of sd card onto spare sd card and did a recovery. Still need to know how to remove the partition from other sd card using windows.
This was definitely the problem and won't be using rom manager to do another partition.
If someone does know how to remove partitions using rom manager from sd card via windows then would appreciate it if you would let me know...
Stock rooted ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694564
Full wipe can be done using the "wipe data/factory reset" option in ClockworkMod Recovery.
To get rid of the ext Partition get gparted or something like that. Normal Windows cant see ext partitions because its a Linux filesystem. You can also take a Linux live cd.
Can't you just take ROM Manager and partition your SD card again? Swap 0/Ext 0/FAT 32 All
It looks like something isnt ok with the partitions so i would recommend to delete all partitions and make them new i also had a problem once with my sd card but after deleting all partitions and repartition it everything was ok again.

Can't access/format/mount Internal SD - any suggestions?

I was using the AOKP 8/23 ROM release and did a full wipe EXACTLY like the instructions say before installing the 3rd 9/1 release (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766684). I refrain from updating ROMs and always do a fresh install following ALL instructions. Somehow this last version messed up my internal SD and I can't access my files properly. They are all still in the internal SD, but the phone acts like it has 2 separate partitions. When I connect the phone to the computer, There's only a 7GB empty "partition" and I can't format it. On the phone, Astro shows me my files normally. ES Explorer shows all the files just like Astro. On CWM recovery, I can't mount or format /sdcard at all. It says "error mounting /sdcard." Then I tried installing another ROM (Slim Bean [AOSP] - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1865262) and the error continues. I assume it's not ROM-specific.
I think all I need is to completely format my internal SD, but I can't figure out how to do it on the phone or on the computer. I have backed up all my files and there's nothing important on the phone. Any idea how I can format the internal SD and start all over?

I haven't. I was afraid to do that because I burned 3 Motocrap Atrixes doing that in the past. I was lucky I did it before the 30 days of the first purchase. Since they couldn't even turn it on, they would just give me a new one. The third one didn't burn.
I restored a Nandroid backup with an ICS rom and the computer could see all files on the phone. The phone itself could too. The AOKP Jelly Bean rom I had before worked fine until I updated it. That's when it messed up. Now all JB roms show that problem. I'm hoping this is just a bug and will be worked out eventually, but it sure freaks me out. I don't want to be stuck with ICS just because of a random error.
I went to system settings --> backup and reset to do a factory reset and it couldn't clear my internal SD. The rom would go back to a fresh install like a full wipe, but nothing happened do the storage. Isn't there another way to completely reset the phone?

[HELP!!?!!?] SD Card and Recovery Problems

Here's a lovely and vague one for you all to try wrap your heads around...
Okay, so I started having trouble with my SD card about a year ago after my mate added a partition so I could flash A2SD ROMs (I believe - I was stuck and asked him to sort it and from what I can gather, that's what he did). It was fine for a while, then suddenly it became nigh on unresponsive to Android: I couldn't take photos, install apps to SD, basically any data transfer between the device and the SD storage was not happening. I think this was after I tried to delete some things to make room for videos and **** but I was stuck on about 300MB of the ~2GB available (this may have been my first attempt to delete after the partition, I'm not sure).
That was the birth of a problem I am still yet to fix. My dad needed a new phone and I wasn't using my Desire anymore. He's 53, and so the Sense UI was less than intuitive to him which lead to me offering to make it a bit simpler for him (flash a stock ROM and use a more information-centric launcher). The device badly needed updating anyways as I hadn't done so since my mate partitioned my SD card and some bugs had began to develop on the ROM I was using. So, I downloaded the latest CM build and set about reformatting the storage to see if I could solve some of the issues. In attempting to do so I think I performed a data, cache and dalvik cache wipe which removed the ROM I was currently using. The partitioning was successful, so I transferred the new ROM and attempted to flash - BOOM! Error message. Tried again, same thing. Now I have a phone that'll only boot into a recovery that's 5 full versions old (CM Recovery v2.5.0.7) without a way to flash an update img. I've tried on many different occasions to try and sort the problem and spent relentless hours trying to research a solution to the numerous different error messages this produces. Every error I can remember was a problem with read/write on the SD card, so I purchased a new one to no avail.
The phone CAN'T be bricked, surely. I still have access to things like USB mounting (which works absolutely fine), and most importantly, access to the recovery. Please don't tell me she won't live on, this is my baby and she's going down fighting! :'(
TL;DR SD card read/write issues. I only have access to recovery. I can mount the SD card via USB in CM Recovery, but every time I try to flash a new ROM I get numerous different read/write errors.
Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408936
There you can download 4ext recovery that can be flashed via fastboot or using some flasher.
When you flash it repartition your sd card, choose only one sd-ext partition (not bigger than 1,5gb), no swap and fat32 for thevrest of your card.
After repartitioning try to flash some rom and see how it will work.

Probs with TWRP Recovery - not recognized Ext SD + Auto quit & booting to Android sys

Probs with TWRP Recovery - not recognized Ext SD + Auto quit & booting to Android sys
Hi, I am having following problems with TWRP on my i9082 - Stock 4.2.2. I did a stock factory reset first. And then installed TWRP using Odin.
Note:My phone is rooted, using SUv2.65.
1) TWRP 3.0 + all versions. I have tried every version till the latest 3.02, but with every 3.0 and higher version, my external SD Card is not detected... Though Android System can detect the SD Card, and read and write files to it.
2) If I use TWRP 2.8.6 tar installed using Odin, then it reads the SD Card, but gives this message E:Unknown File System: 'datamedia' .
If I ignore that message, and try backing up my Stock ROM, then in about half a minute, it automatically reboots into Android system, and the Backup is not created...
Hence I am not able to create any Backup.
Could somebody please help. I can't understand that error. And also can't understand why higher versions of TWRP (which do not have this error), cannot detect the SD Card
But in every version, I cannot stop TWRP automatically quitting and the Phone booting into Android in less than a minute. I even disabled Screen timeout... Doesn't help!
There is a correction to the Post above:
1) About the External SD Card: It seems there is a problem with the Card. The Card shows in Windows and also in TWRP below v3. It gives the impression that you can read and write to it... But in reality, when we write something, we find it is missing the next time we try to read the data... Even while trying to format the card from Android, it says formatting completed successfully. But we find all files are there, just as before...
I have tried using DiskPart and also SDFormatter..., on this Sandisk 64GB microSD XC1 card. But it appears to be bricked, and cannot be formatted.. I have to try with another external SD Card.
2) But leaving the SD Card, the other issue still remains, for which I would be grateful for any help. In any version of TWRP, both above and below v3, I am not able to complete any backup... TWRP quits on it's own after some time, even while the backup process is going on, and boots into Android, and no backup is created...
I know that TWRP patched my Boot partition. Because at the first while flashing with ODIN, I could not boot to TWRP Recovery, it would always go back to Stock Recovery... Then at another XDA Post, I read that 'Auto Reboot' should be disabled in Odin, and the Phone Battery taken out to quit Odin Mode, and then we should reboot into Recovery using the Right Key combination, and TWRP would boot... Once TWRP is booted, that it would patch the boot, so that the Stock Recovery overwriting would cease... That has been successful, and everytime I use the Key combo to boot into recovery, I get into TWRP. But TWRP now quits by itself even when it is actively doing something. And that is getting me completely confused...
I have to add this Error too here!
Besides above, I also consistently get this error in the Log tab. E:Unknown File System: 'datamedia' . This is also the same in every version of TWRP. If I ignore it and continue with Backup, then Backup proceeds, but TWRP quits to Android System like I said earlier, and hence the Backup is never made...
For long time I was too facing this prob with TWRP recoveries for galaxy grand duos sudden restart to UI while taking nandroid backups, flashing new ROMs or apps ...
I just quit and now the probs are solved using Phil's recovery ..NONE problems till now great jobs in taking nandroid backup and Flashing ROMS...

hIT tx if I have helped...

Phone stuck in bootloop. Tried tons of things.

So, I have an N7100. I have rooted my phone a few times. The last time was over a year ago and it worked fine. Yesterday, suddenly (I haven't attempted to flash anything) it restarted on its own and won't boot. I tried to go into the TWRP recovery I had installed over a year ago, but TWRP will only load for a second and then disappear and the phone would restart again and go into the bootloop. As a result, I can't wipe cache partition.
I can confirm that I can connect successfully to ODIN and flash a different version of TWRP. I have failed to flash CWM so far... maybe I couldn't find a correct version since my phone has knox???
I tried flashing a different kernel, but that didn't work either. Do I need a specific kernel?
The only thing I need to do is recover my files, whether it is through recovering the phone, or accessing the internal storage.
Can someone please help me? I don't want to do a complete wipe.
And in case this is relevant, my ROM is the custom OMEGA rom, I'm not sure which version though. Either 31, or 26, which is either for android 4.3 or 4.4.2.
Thanks
Hey,
I have the same problem, the phone just restarted on it's own yesterday, restarted again and is now stuck at the bootlogo.
Wiping Cache and Dalvik on it's own doesn't suffice, Wiping the system partition too (TWRP) gets the phone to boot, but it will restart again after a couple of minutes, again stuck at the boot logo.
I'm using the limbean ROM.
shadnixx, wiping the system partition does not mean that you're going to loose your data - you should try that, after the factory reset the phone is usable for a couple of minutes, I will now try to flash a newer ROM and gapps, maybe the problem will go away with that.

@shadnixx Well use every possible way to flash and enter custom recovery. Try Philz, TWRP, CWM, everything...
If everything fails you'lll have to reflash Stock ROM using Odin. I've heard is wipes data but not internal storage but I'm not sure and don't balme me if it happens. Search xda a little.
See these threads: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2583588

If that fails then the phone has hardware damage I think. Needs to go to service.

Thanks for your reply. That's what I'm trying to do. One question... do I have to have a specific CWM version that is compatible with my ROM?
Progress
OK, while flashing TWRP failed to help, flashing Philz Touch enabled me to get into recovery. I was able to mount the external SD card and browse the files, but the real problem is with the internal storage, since the SD card is removable. I couldn't manage to mount it. Can someone help with that?

I'm sad to report, after I wiped the cache and restarted my phone, Philz would behave like TWRP did, which is to load for 1 second then reboot. Yes, I tried 4 different versions of TWRP, same result. Odin doesn't give any errors. It says that flashing was successful. Tried different cables and ports too, yes.

Don't think so. I just replaced the battery... still same problem. And when I enter Odin "Download" mode, it doesn't keep restarting, so I don't think it's the power button.
I got a small update though...
Flashed another version of philz, which works every time I boot to recovery. A few problems though...
1. I can wipe cache partition, no problem. But When I try to wipe Dalvik, the phone reboots as soon as I try.
2. Aroma file explorer doesn't show any files.
3. I can mount external SD, but I can't mount internal storage
4. When using ADB, it could finally initiate pulling files from the internal storage (or that's what it appears to be doing), but only while on recovery mode. A few seconds after it says "listing files" or something, the phone reboots and the ADB operation aborts. It doesn't behave like this when I access other sections of philz recovery.
Any thoughts?
Another small update...
While using philz, I clicked the "install zip from sdcard" and it showed my folders. I think my files are intact, but I guess I can't be certain.
Small update again...
I flashed Aroma File Explorer from Philz, I managed to enter my internal storage browse around for a bit, but then the phone rebooted again. I tried to repeat so I could copy my internal storage, but now my internal storage says symlink error.

Listen up - Transfer any ROM to your external SD card, touchwiz based to avoid any complications if you can.
When you get into recovery (at least on TWRP 3 on my Galaxy Note 2 LTE this works) you can connect your phone to PC and transfer all the files, it just gets recognised.
If that fails then wipe /data and /cache partition and see if it boots. If that fails/succeeds then try to flash new ROM and wipe /data and see if it will boot. Data is not the same as internalSD. Data is your apps and settings, you can reinstall that later. InternalSD is your pictures and all. You want your pictures, not your apps, right? It is different.
But who knows what happened here. Malware? Corrupt partition? Hardware failure of some kind? Don't blame me if flashing a new ROM breakes everything even more.
